Candle Business Guides · Premium Brand Launch
The question behind "where" is really "in what order, and how much". This guide sets out a three-stage launch order from one Indian specialist supplier — eight 15 gm trials, four 100 gm qualifications, two 500 gm launch scents — with a decision gate between each stage and every rupee costed at CSI's live September 2026 prices.
₹35,775
total materials, instruments and glass across all three stages — from eight scents on a blotter to eighty finished 150 g premium candles in golden-lid glass with wooden wicks · CSI live pricing, September 2026
Quick answers — read this first
Where should a premium candle brand buy fragrance oil in India? From a supplier that publishes a stated load, a full pack ladder from a trial size to 1 kg, and documentation on request — and that has the wax, glass and wicks on the same invoice, because a launch is a matched set, not four separate hunts.
What should the first order actually contain? Not oil in bulk. Eight 15 gm trials for ₹817.26, which is less than one kilo of a mid-priced oil and tells you which four to test properly.
What does a full premium launch cost in materials?₹35,775.06 across three stages: ₹817.26 to shortlist eight scents, ₹8,941.80 to qualify four in twenty test candles with instruments, and ₹26,016 to produce eighty saleable candles in two scents.
What does one finished candle cost? At stage three, a 150 g candle in coconut-soy wax, a golden-lid jar and a wooden wick is ₹277.98 in Woody Oud and ₹283.93 in Sandalwood — materials only, before box, label, labour, GST and freight.
The short answer
Buy evidence before you buy volume: for a first premium range, prefer oils that already carry a published buyer review and a measured flash point over an unreviewed oil at twice the price. Novelty is a second-collection decision.
Insist on a 15 gm size: eight trials cost ₹817.26 together. An oil sold only in 100 g upwards is not a bad oil, but it does force a ₹799 decision before you have smelled it in wax.
Let the jar set the candle weight: the Clear Glass Jar with Golden Lid states a 150 g fill capacity, so this whole plan is built on a 150 g candle. Fix the vessel first and the recipe follows; do it the other way round and you re-run the burn test.
Notice the shape. Stage one is 2.3% of the total and eliminates half the range; stage three is 73% and only happens once two scents have survived a cured burn test. Most first orders invert this — a kilo of an unproven oil arrives before a single test jar has been poured — and that is the single most expensive mistake available to a new premium brand.
Where should I buy luxury fragrance oils to start a premium candle brand, and what should I order first?
Buy from a supplier that publishes a stated load per oil, sells a 15 gm trial size, carries the same oil up to 1 kg, and stocks the wax, glass and wicks you will pour it into — then order in three stages rather than one. Stage one: eight 15 gm trials for ₹817.26, covering Woody Oud (₹93.22), Sandalwood (₹93.22), British Rose (₹94.40), Fallen Leaves (₹94.40), Jasmine (₹103), Japanese Cherry Blossom (₹104), Lavender (₹105.02) and Dark Vanilla (₹130). Stage two: ₹8,941.80 — four 100 gm bottles of the survivors, 5 kg of Premium Coconut Soy CSI 468 at ₹3,185, twenty golden-lid jars at ₹1,888, two wick types, and the three instruments (₹808) you buy once in a lifetime. That produces twenty cured test candles. Stage three: ₹26,016 — 500 gm of each of the two winners, 15 kg of wax, eighty jars and a hundred wooden wicks, producing eighty saleable 150 g candles at ₹277.98 to ₹283.93 of materials each. Total across all three: ₹35,775.06. The candle is 150 g because that is the fill capacity the golden-lid jar states — fix the vessel first, and the recipe follows. One kilogram is the largest fragrance pack CSI lists, so anything beyond this is a WhatsApp conversation for volume pricing, GST invoicing and documentation.
One line: spend ₹817 to eliminate four scents, ₹8,942 to prove two, and only then ₹26,016 on the eighty candles you can actually sell.
Stage one, today: Woody Oud 15 gm ₹93.22, Sandalwood 15 gm ₹93.22, Jasmine 15 gm ₹103 and Dark Vanilla 15 gm ₹130 — four reviewed premium directions on your bench for ₹419.44.
Nobody fails at a premium launch because they picked the wrong supplier. They fail because they bought the right things in the wrong order.
"Where to buy" is usually asked as a question about a name and answered with one. It is more useful as a question about capability — five things you can check before spending anything. The oils must publish a stated load, or your first burn test has no starting number. There must be a trial size, because eight scents at 100 g each is ₹4,000 of decisions you have not earned. There must be a continuous ladder to 1 kg, or the scent you fall for becomes unaffordable at volume. The wax, glass and wicks must come from the same place, because a fragrance decision made without the vessel is not a decision. And documentation must be obtainable on request rather than promised on a badge.
On the CSI range, four of the five are visible from the listings. Eighty-one of 107 oil pages publish a usage percentage. Every oil on the shortlist below sells from 15 gm to 1 kg on one listing. Wax, jars, wicks, dyes and instruments sit in the same catalogue. Documentation — MSDS and IFRA — is handled on the WhatsApp bulk line on request. The fifth, stock depth, is the one to check at the moment of ordering rather than in advance, and this guide flags the sold-out sizes it found in September 2026 as it goes.
Two honest limits before the shopping starts. CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA is a raw-material supplier — it does not manufacture wax or fragrance oil and it does not make or sell finished candles. And no page in the range publishes a minimum order quantity, a lead time, batch test data, a shelf life or a private-label service, so if your plan depends on any of those, ask before you build around them. The comparison framework is in how to choose a reliable fragrance oil supplier in India.
The mistake: buying the range you want to sell instead of the range you can test. A founder with a clear vision of a six-scent oud-and-amber collection tends to order six premium oils in 100 g and pour all six in one weekend. Six untested scents in one pour means six variables and no controls, and when two of the candles tunnel you cannot tell whether it was the wick, the wax, the scent or the pour temperature. Order eight trials, pour four scents against one wax and two wick types, and let the collection assemble itself from what survives. The selection logic, as opposed to the buying sequence, is in selecting 6–10 fragrances for a premium brand.
The eight-scent launch shortlist
Eight oils chosen on a single principle: for a first premium range, published evidence beats novelty. Every one sells a 15 gm trial, every one runs to 1 kg on the same listing, and six of the eight carry a published buyer review on the product page. The last column is what 12 g costs inside a 150 g candle at an 8% load, at the 1 kg price.

Priced above: oil per candle = 1 kg price ÷ 1,000 × 12 g. British Rose ₹3.068/g × 12 = ₹36.82 · Jasmine ₹3.923/g = ₹47.08 · Fallen Leaves ₹4.248/g = ₹50.98 · Woody Oud ₹4.5312/g = ₹54.37 · Japanese Cherry Blossom ₹4.842/g = ₹58.10 · Sandalwood ₹5.0268/g = ₹60.32 · Lavender ₹5.221/g = ₹62.65 · Dark Vanilla ₹7.646/g = ₹91.75. Stage-one total = ₹94.40 + ₹103 + ₹94.40 + ₹93.22 + ₹104 + ₹93.22 + ₹105.02 + ₹130 = ₹817.26. Flash points are quoted only where a page publishes a measured value. "Buyer review published" records whether the product page carries a customer review; it is a count, not a quality verdict.
Look at the spread before you fall for a scent. The fragrance line inside one 150 g candle runs from ₹36.82 to ₹91.75 — a 2.5× range, and across eighty candles the difference between ₹2,945.60 and ₹7,340 of oil for the same batch. At launch that gap competes with your glass, your box and your photography for the same limited money. A brand that launches on Jasmine and Woody Oud and adds Dark Vanilla in collection two is not being timid; it is spending the difference where a customer can see it.
Three of the eight publish 0% vanillin
British Rose, Jasmine and Sandalwood all state vanillin content 0% — no discolouration or yellowing in wax. Dark Vanilla states "Vanillin Content Present", and the other four say nothing either way. If your brand identity is a pale wax in clear glass, that single row should carry real weight in the shortlist, because it is the difference between photographing your range once and photographing it twice.
The three-stage order, costed
Every rupee in stage three is a rupee you have already justified. That is the whole design.
The complete order, line by line, at CSI's live September 2026 prices. Each stage has one job and one gate, and nothing from a later stage is bought until the earlier gate is passed. The instruments in stage two are the only lines you never buy again. Every candle is 150 g at an 8% load: 12 g of oil and 138 g of wax.

Stage 2 = ₹453.12 + ₹430 + ₹502.68 + ₹790 + ₹3,185 + ₹1,888 + ₹295 + ₹590 + ₹354 + ₹354 + ₹100 = ₹8,941.80, of which ₹808 is the three one-off instruments. Stage 3 = ₹2,265.60 + ₹2,513.40 + ₹9,555 + ₹7,552 + ₹4,130 = ₹26,016. Grand total ₹35,775.06. Quantities at 150 g and an 8% load: twenty test candles use 240 g of oil (12 g each) and 2,760 g of wax (138 g each); eighty launch candles use 960 g of oil and 11,040 g of wax. Wax at 15 kg is a flat ₹637 a kilo on both the 10 kg (₹6,370) and 5 kg (₹3,185) packs. The consumed materials in stage three come to ₹22,476.32; the remaining ₹3,539.68 is the 3,960 g of spare wax (₹2,522.52), twenty spare wicks (₹826) and 40 g of spare oil (₹191.16), which is the planning allowance and the start of batch two.
Let the vessel decide the candle weight, not the other way round. The Clear Glass Jar with Golden Lid states a 150 g fill capacity, 8 cm high and 7 cm across, with a hot-pour limit of 85°C — which is why every figure on this page is a 150 g candle. Founders routinely fix a "200 g premium candle" on a spreadsheet and then hunt for glass that holds it, and end up re-running a burn test because wick behaviour follows vessel diameter. Note also that most CSI jars state a capacity in either grams or millilitres, and the two are not interchangeable: the Black Matte and White Matte jars at ₹70.80 each state a 200 ml fill, not 200 g. Weigh one filled jar with your own wax before you fix a weight, a label or a price.
Four oils to qualify
The four that go into stage two, chosen so the range has four distinct jobs rather than four favourites: an oud anchor, a traditional Indian wood, a white floral and a gourmand. Each card lists every pack CSI lists and how many 150 g candles at 8% — 12 g of oil each — the pack fills.

Oud anchor · reviewed · flat ladder from 100 gm
Woody Oud
The natural anchor for a premium Indian range and the best-value oud on the shortlist at ₹4,531.20 a kilo. Its stated structure is citrus and spice, then exotic oud and patchouli, then woody notes, amber and musk, with the page giving the family as "Oriental / Woody / Exotic". Stated load is 6–10% for candles and 10–15% for wax melts, with a stated 48–72 hour cure before burn testing. A buyer review on the page describes it as a "good quality wood fragrance oil with a warm, long-lasting scent". The ladder is flat at ₹4.5312 a gram from 100 gm all the way to 1 kg, so the 500 gm launch pack costs exactly what the kilo would per candle.

Indian wood · 0% vanillin · 203°C measured
Sandalwood Fragrance Oil
The scent with the deepest cultural reach of anything on this list, and technically the most reassuring page in the shortlist. It describes "warm, creamy sandalwood — smooth, rich, and sophisticated" with "subtle earthy depth — grounding, natural, never sharp", and publishes up to 10% for soy with a 48–72 hour cure, up to 6% for paraffin, up to 12% for wax melts, a measured flash point of 203°C and vanillin content 0% — meaning no stated discolouration risk in a pale premium wax. It carries a buyer review, and its ladder is flat at ₹5.0268 a gram from 100 gm to 1 kg. If your launch has one candle that has to work for every customer, this is the safest candidate here.

White floral · five formats from one bottle
Jasmine Fragrance Oil
Every premium Indian range needs a white floral, and this is the one with the most published behind it. The page states up to 10% for soy with a 48–72 hour cure, up to 6% for paraffin, up to 12% for wax melts, 10–30% for reed diffusers and 8–15% for room sprays — five formats from one bottle, which matters if a diffuser line follows the candles. It publishes a measured flash point of 185°C and vanillin content 0%, no discolouration. At ₹3,923 a kilo it is the second cheapest oil line on the shortlist, ₹47.08 inside a 150 g candle, which leaves room for better glass. Its ladder rewards scale mildly: ₹4.30 a gram at 100 gm against ₹3.923 at 1 kg.

Gourmand · the one that will divide your shortlist
Dark Vanilla
The gourmand place in the range, and the deliberate awkward candidate. Its stated structure is rich vanilla and spice, then deep caramel and cream, then dark amber and warm musk — vanilla as a full composition rather than a single sweet note. It publishes a measured flash point of approximately 191–193°C and a stated load of 6–10% for candles, and one buyer calls it "One of the best fragrance oils". It is also the dearest line here at ₹7,646 a kilo and the only one of the four that states "Vanillin Content Present", so it carries a real discolouration question in pale wax and clear glass. Qualify it knowing that it may cost you the jar you wanted.
Once the range is chosen, the only cost that matters is the one inside a finished unit, because a retail price has to clear it several times over. This is a 150 g candle in Premium Coconut Soy CSI 468 at ₹637 a kilo, a golden-lid jar and a Performance Wooden Wick at the 100-pack rate — the stage-three specification exactly.
Materials in one 150 g launch candle · 8% load · CSI live pricing, September 2026
Same wax, same glass, same wick — only the oil changes
Priced above: wax = 138 g × ₹0.637 (CSI 468 at ₹637/kg on the 5 kg and 10 kg packs) = ₹87.91 · oil = 12 g × the 1 kg price per gram · jar = Clear Glass Jar with Golden Lid ₹1,888 ÷ 20 = ₹94.40 · wick = Performance Wooden Wicks ₹4,130 ÷ 100 = ₹41.30. Wooden wicks are an imported item. One wick per candle is a costing assumption; wick size and count must be set by your own burn test. Box, label, labour, GST and freight are additional.
Two things fall out of that table. The glass and the wick together are ₹135.70 — on the Jasmine build, 50% of the materials cost, more than the wax and nearly three times the fragrance. A founder agonising over the ₹13.24 between Jasmine and Sandalwood while accepting the first jar they find is optimising the wrong line. And the whole spread from cheapest build to dearest is ₹44.67 a candle, ₹3,573.60 across eighty; fragrance is 17% to 29% of materials here. For the step up, see when should a candle business start buying fragrance oil in 1 kg quantities.
The CSI principle
A launch order is not a bet on a range. It is a sequence of three small purchases, each one paid for by the answer the last one gave you.
Eight trials cost less than one kilo of oil and remove half the range. Twenty test candles cost a quarter of the launch and remove half of what is left. By the time you spend the ₹26,016, every line on the invoice has a burn test behind it.
Stage two, in one basket: four 100 gm oils for ₹2,175.80, CSI 468 5 kg at ₹3,185, twenty golden-lid jars at ₹1,888, two wick types at ₹885 and the three instruments at ₹808 — ₹8,941.80 for twenty cured test candles.
The only part of candle making you cannot buy your way past is the cure, so plan backwards from it.
Cure is the constraint. Standard practice for soy and coconut-soy container candles is 14 to 21 days before a candle is judged or sold, and it happens twice in this plan — once for the test batch and once for the launch batch. Work backwards from your launch date and the calendar sets itself. If you are aiming at Diwali, which falls on 8 November 2026, stage one needs to be ordered around the middle of August.
1
Weeks 1–2 · Order stage one and smell properlyEight 15 gm trials, ₹817.26. One drop per paper strip, read at 1 minute, 20 minutes and 4 hours, and write a sentence each time. Cut to four on structure and contrast, not on which you personally like most — you need an anchor, a wood, a floral and a gourmand, not four variations on one idea.
2
Week 3 · Order stage two and pour twenty test candlesFive per scent at 12 g of oil and 138 g of wax, all in the same jar. Ten on the Eco C1 wick and ten on the wooden wick, so each scent is tested on both. Follow the CSI 468 page: melt 50–53°C, pour 58–60°C, and write down what the thermometer actually read rather than what you intended.
3
Weeks 4–6 · Cure with lids on, and photograph the colourTwenty-one days, lids on, in a closed carton, out of daylight. Photograph one jar of each scent under the same light on day 1 and day 21. This is where Dark Vanilla's stated "Vanillin Content Present" either becomes a problem for your clear glass or does not.
4
Week 7 · Burn test, then decide on twoThree hours per candle in a closed room with nothing else scented. Record minutes to a full melt pool reaching the glass, flame height, soot or mushrooming, and the scent at 30 and 150 minutes. Keep the wick that reaches the glass in about two to three hours without soot. Two scents go forward; the other two wait for collection two. The full protocol is in how to test hot throw before launching a candle fragrance.
5
Week 8 · Order stage three and pour eightyTwo 500 gm bottles, 15 kg of wax, eighty jars, a hundred wicks — ₹26,016. Forty candles per scent, poured on the same day, at exactly the recipe the test proved. Log the batch: wax pack, oil pack, load in grams, add temperature, pour temperature, wick, date.
6
Weeks 9–11 · Cure, keep two retains, then photograph and launchAnother twenty-one days. Hold back two finished candles per scent, sealed and labelled, as the reference every future batch is compared against. Photograph the range at the end of the cure, not the beginning, so the images match what a customer receives. Then sell.
Pour the test batch in the jar you will actually sell
Wick behaviour is a function of vessel diameter, and a recipe proven in one glass does not transfer to another. If you intend to launch in the golden-lid jar — 8 cm high, 7 cm outer diameter, stated 150 g fill, hot pour to 85°C — test in it. Changing the glass after the burn test means running the burn test again, which costs three more weeks you will not have in week ten.
After the launch: scaling and gaps
Once eighty candles have sold, the arithmetic changes shape but not method. At 150 g and 8% a kilogram of oil fills 83 candles, so 250 candles need 3 kg of oil and 34.5 kg of wax and 1,000 need 12 kg and 138 kg. Three kilos is ₹13,593.60 of Woody Oud or ₹15,080.40 of Sandalwood; twelve kilos is ₹54,374.40 or ₹60,321.60 at listed 1 kg prices. One kilogram is the largest fragrance-oil pack CSI lists, so above a kilo you order multiple packs and the listed per-kilo price is a ceiling. Send scents and quantities to the bulk WhatsApp line for volume pricing, GST invoicing and documentation; we will not print a quote here, because a wrong number is worse than none.
One more planning gap: CSI lists no ready-made sample pack, which is why stage one is assembled by hand from 15 gm bottles rather than bought as a kit. And availability moves independently of price — in September 2026, Blue Ocean's 15 gm and Royal Oud's 100 g were sold out while their larger packs were in stock. That changes how cheaply you can re-sample mid-season rather than whether you can buy at all.
The habit that protects a young brand is small and dull: keep a reference quantity of every launch scent in-house, and keep the retains. When batch four smells different from batch one you want a sealed candle from batch one on a shelf and a 15 gm bottle in a drawer, not a memory and an argument. It is also what makes a second collection cheap — you already know the wax, wick, jar and cure, so the next scent proves itself against one variable. Next steps: how to maintain fragrance consistency across commercial candle batches.
Do not let a sell-out become a reformulation. A young brand that runs out of its anchor scent mid-season and substitutes "something similar" has quietly changed its product, and the customers who bought the first batch will notice before the founder does. The cheap insurance is to qualify a second oil in the same direction during stage two — which is exactly what the four-scent qualification above delivers, since two survive and two are already tested and waiting. If a pack size you depend on is unavailable, ask on WhatsApp what is in stock before you improvise at the bench.
The cheapest order a new brand places is the one that tells it what not to buy next.

Why trust this guide
CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials; it does not manufacture wax or fragrance oil, and it does not make or sell finished candles. A page aimed at a founder with a launch budget could easily recommend eight kilos of premium oil on day one. This one recommends ₹817.26 of trial bottles, says the glass and wick cost more than the wax, and builds the plan around a 150 g candle because that is the fill the jar states.
Every price, pack size, stated load, flash point and capacity on this page comes from live CSI stock and product pages in September 2026, and each links to the page where current pricing takes precedence. All totals are the listed prices added up, with the working shown in full. No throw result, lab report, batch data, MOQ or lead time is claimed, because none is published; where a page states nothing — a flash point on four of the eight shortlisted oils — this guide says so. "Premium" and "luxury" here describe positioning and published structure, never a measured grade.

Frequently asked questions
Where can I buy luxury fragrance oils in India for a new candle brand?
Buy from a specialist raw-material supplier that publishes a stated load per oil, a trial size, a ladder up to 1 kg, and the wax, glass and wicks on the same invoice. On the CSI range, 81 of 107 oil pages publish a usage percentage and every oil on the shortlist above runs from 15 gm to 1 kg on one listing. In materials, instruments and glass, ₹35,775.06 for the three-stage plan above: ₹817.26 to shortlist eight scents in 15 gm trials, ₹8,941.80 to qualify four across twenty cured test candles, and ₹26,016 to produce eighty saleable 150 g candles in two scents. That excludes box, label, photography, labour, GST and freight. Of the total, ₹808 is instruments you buy once — a thermometer, a scale and wick stickers.
Which should I order first — the oil, the wax or the glass?
The glass, because it sets everything downstream. The Clear Glass Jar with Golden Lid states a 150 g fill, which fixes the candle weight, which fixes the grams of oil and wax per unit, and its 7 cm diameter is what your wick test is actually testing. Oils come second, in 15 gm trials at ₹817.26 for eight. Wax comes third, once you know how much a candle takes. Choosing the jar last means re-running the burn test.
What does one premium candle cost to make?
At the stage-three specification — 150 g, 8% load, Premium Coconut Soy CSI 468 at ₹637 a kilo, a golden-lid jar and a wooden wick — materials are ₹270.69 in Jasmine, ₹277.98 in Woody Oud, ₹283.93 in Sandalwood and ₹315.36 in Dark Vanilla. The wax is ₹87.91 and the glass and wick together ₹135.70, so fragrance is between 17% and 29% of the materials cost. Box, label, labour, GST and freight are all additional.
How long before I can sell the first batch?
About eleven weeks from the first order, and the constraint is cure rather than supply. Standard practice for soy and coconut-soy container candles is 14 to 21 days before judging or selling, and the plan above cures twice — once for the twenty test candles and once for the eighty launch candles. Working backwards from Diwali on 8 November 2026 puts the stage-one order in the middle of August. Do not compress the cure; it is the one step no equipment shortens.
Does CSI sell a sample pack or publish a minimum order quantity for new brands?
No sample-pack product is listed, and no minimum order quantity is published. The practical floor is the smallest listed size on each oil — 15 gm on every oil in the shortlist above, 50 g or 100 g on some others — which is why stage one is assembled by hand rather than bought as a kit. CSI also publishes no lead time, no batch data and no private-label or contract-manufacturing service, and it does not manufacture wax or fragrance oil. Ask on WhatsApp before planning around any of those.

About this guide: Written by the CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA team. Recommendations reflect the CSI range; the three-stage sequence, the decision gates and the eleven-week calendar apply to any supplier. CSI is a raw-material supplier, not a manufacturer of wax or fragrance oil and not a maker of finished candles. "Premium" and "luxury" describe positioning and published structure, never a measured grade. No throw, panel, lab, batch, MOQ or lead-time claim is made, because none is published.

Vanillin stated at 0% on British Rose, Jasmine and Sandalwood; Dark Vanilla states "Vanillin Content Present"; the other four state nothing. Maths: load as a percentage of finished candle weight (150 g at 8% = 12 g oil + 138 g wax); oil cost = grams × 1 kg price ÷ 1,000; stage 2 = twenty candles using 240 g of oil and 2,760 g of wax; stage 3 = eighty candles using 960 g of oil and 11,040 g of wax; per-candle wax = 138 g × ₹0.637 = ₹87.91; stage totals ₹817.26 + ₹8,941.80 + ₹26,016 = ₹35,775.06; consumed materials in stage 3 = ₹22,476.32, leaving ₹3,539.68 in spare wax (3,960 g, ₹2,522.52), spare wicks (20, ₹826) and spare oil (40 g, ₹191.16); 1,000 ÷ 12 = 83 candles per kilo of oil; 250 candles = 3 kg of oil and 34.5 kg of wax, 1,000 candles = 12 kg and 138 kg; 3 kg at listed prices = ₹13,593.60 (Woody Oud) and ₹15,080.40 (Sandalwood), 12 kg = ₹54,374.40 and ₹60,321.60. One wick per candle is a costing assumption. The 14–21 day cure is standard practice; Diwali 2026 falls on 8 November. 1 kg is the largest fragrance-oil pack CSI lists; larger and recurring volumes are quoted on WhatsApp and no quoted figure is estimated here.
