CSI Wick Purchasing · Full-Life First
The failures that matter appear in the bottom third, and customers find them weeks after you pour. A nine-candle full-life test costs a small fraction of the wick order it protects, and CSI's big wick packs cost no less per wick.

Quick answers — read this first
Why should I burn-test candles to the end before buying 1,000–5,000 wicks? Because the failures that matter most commercially (a flame that grows, glass that runs hot, a deep pool, soot) commonly appear only in the bottom third, and your customers reach the bottom weeks after you've poured. A wick that looks perfect in the first few hours tells you almost nothing about its last few.

What does being wrong cost? 5,000 Eco C2 wicks are ₹47,200.00; 5,000 Cotton Braided are ₹60,000.00. Worse, the candles you pour on them: 1,000 candles at a worked-example ₹235.30 of materials each is ₹2,35,300.00.

What does the test cost? Three CSI rungs, three candles each, burned to the floor: ₹332.40 in wicks and ₹2,611.72 with wax, oil and your jars. That is 5.5% of a 5,000-wick C2 order.

Will 1,000 or 5,000 wicks be cheaper per wick? Not at CSI. C1, C2 and Cotton Braided cost the same per wick at every pack. Buy test packs first, then production by the month.
The short answer
The reason: heat builds lower in the jar, so many wicks that pass the top fail the bottom. Only a test to the floor sees it before a customer does.
The money: test ₹2,611.72; 1,000 C2 ₹9,440.00; 5,000 C2 ₹47,200.00; 1,000 candles poured on the wrong wick about ₹2,35,300.00 in materials.
The time: about 10 days for a test (a 3-day cure plus 7 daily 4-hour sessions). A customer burning twice a week takes about 4 weeks to reach the same bottom.
The order: smallest in-stock packs for the test, then production by the month; CSI's bigger tabbed-wick packs save nothing per wick.
What the test costs, against what it protects ₹ on a log scale: each gridline is ten times the last. CSI prices, 7 October 2026. 100 1,000 10,000 1,00,000 10,00,000 Test wicks C1 20 + C2 10 + CB 10 ₹332.40 Full-life test 9 candles: wicks, wax, oil, jars ₹2,611.72 Eco C2 × 1,000 one 1,000-pack ₹9,440.00 Cotton Braided × 1,000 one 1,000-pack ₹12,000.00 Eco C2 × 5,000 five 1,000-packs ₹47,200.00 Cotton Braided × 5,000 five 1,000-packs ₹60,000.00 1,000 candles made materials at ₹235.30 each ₹2,35,300.00 testing wick orders (flat per wick) candles made on the wrong wick The test is 5.5% of a 5,000-wick C2 order. Late failures only show at the bottom of the jar.
A price ladder on a log scale, so each gridline is ten times the one before. The open bars are testing: the wicks for a three-rung ladder, and the whole nine-candle full-life test with wax, oil and your jars. The grey bars are wick orders, flat per wick at CSI, so 5,000 is simply five times 1,000. The black bar is the materials in 1,000 candles poured on a wick that later fails at the bottom of the jar (worked example, with a reader jar price). The test is a small fraction of every order it protects.
Straight answer
Why is full-life burn testing essential before I buy 1,000–5,000 wicks for commercial production?
Because a wick is only right for the whole candle, and the part of the candle you haven't tested is where wicks most commonly go wrong. As the wax level drops, there is less wax to absorb heat, more glass above the pool and the flame sits lower, so a wick that is calm and clean at the top can grow, smoke, run the glass hot or carbon up in the bottom third. A test that stops early sees none of that; your customers see all of it, weeks after you've poured, at a scale set by your wick order. The arithmetic is lopsided. Three CSI rungs, three candles each, burned to the floor, cost about ₹2,611.72 in materials (with your own jars at a worked-example price) and about 10 days. 5,000 Eco C2 wicks are ₹47,200.00, and the 1,000 candles you might pour on them before the first complaint hold about ₹2,35,300.00 of materials. And there's no discount to lose by waiting: CSI's C1, C2 and Cotton Braided wicks cost the same per wick at every pack, so the 1,000-pack is a cash decision, not a saving. Test with the smallest in-stock packs, approve on full-life results, then buy production by the month.
One line: the bottom third is where wicks fail and where customers find out; a ₹2,611.72 full-life test protects a ₹47,200.00 wick order and the candles you'd make with it.
The test packs, priced: an Eco C1 20-pack (₹118.00), an Eco C2 10-pack (₹94.40) and a Cotton Braided 10-pack (₹120.00): ₹332.40 for a three-rung ladder with spares. All in stock on 7 October 2026; the C1 10-pack is not.
Eco C2 10-pack — ₹94.40

Your situation, made precise

One good burn and a big order on the table. That's exactly when to slow down.

You've found a wick that works: the first burn or two were lovely, the pool reached the glass, the flame was steady, the throw was good. You have a production run coming (a festive season, a corporate order, a new retail account) and you'd like to order 1,000–5,000 wicks now so you never run short. The question is whether finishing a full-life test first is worth the days, or caution for its own sake.

Three facts frame the answer. Your evidence so far is the top of the jar. Worked example, labelled: the series' 200 g test candle at 8% (16 g fragrance + 184 g wax) burns about 25.7 hours to a 20 g floor at 7.0 g an hour; the top third is the first 8.6 hours, about 3 four-hour sessions. Two good burns is mostly top third. Customers burn the whole candle, and they find its last third weeks after purchase. The order size multiplies whatever is true about the bottom. If the bottom is fine, waiting costs a week. If it isn't, ordering early costs the wicks and everything poured on them. The cluster's hub on why bottoms run hot is perfect first half, extremely hot near the bottom.

Safety first, plainly: a candle that fails at the bottom fails in a customer's home, unattended for minutes at a time, where the risks are a tall flame, smoke, very hot glass or a flame near the base. That is why the full-life test isn't optional for commercial candles. During testing, stop any session where a flame approaches the glass, smokes continuously or runs past your band, and let the candle cool where it stands. Never judge glass heat by touch: use your own non-contact thermometer (CSI lists none) at marked points (measuring container temperature consistently). Jar pages' "Safe for hot-pour up to 85°C" wording is a pour figure, not a burn rating.

Why the failures that matter appear at the bottom

The top of a jar is the easiest place for a wick to look good.

At the top of a fresh candle the flame sits high, with plenty of solid wax around and below the pool to soak up heat and only a little glass above it. As the candle burns down, that changes in one direction. There is less wax below and around the pool, more glass standing above it reflecting and holding heat, and the flame works closer to the base. The same wick, in the same wax and oil, is now effectively stronger. Commonly, that shows as a flame that grows session by session, a pool that runs deeper, glass readings that climb, more carbon on the wick and faster wax use. The full mechanism is why a wick correct at the top becomes too aggressive lower down.

Two other things only show late. End-of-life behaviour: whether the flame stops clear of the base, where the tab really leaves the floor, how hot the last centimetre gets (the exposed tab and very hot last wax). Accumulated carbon and cumulative heat over many sessions, which no single burn reveals. A top-third test can't see any of these, however carefully it's run. That's why the cluster treats a failure in the final 20% as a failure of the whole configuration: does a late-burn failure invalidate the configuration?.

The timing trap
Your test reaches the bottom in about 10 days because you burn daily. A customer who lights the candle a couple of evenings a week takes about 4 weeks to reach the same bottom. By the time the first late-burn complaint arrives, you may have poured and sold a month or more of production on that wick.

The cost of being wrong, in rupees

The wicks are the cheap part of a wrong wick.

Here is the downside, at CSI prices on 7 October 2026, for the order sizes in your question. Wicks are flat per wick at every pack, so 5,000 is five 1,000-packs; CSI lists nothing larger, and quantities beyond listed packs, stock depth and lot continuity are a WhatsApp conversation.

Wick orders · 1,000 and 5,000
CSI live pricing, 7 October 2026 · per wick is the same at every pack for these three · in stock
Wick Per wick 1,000 5,000
Eco C1 ₹5.90 ₹5,900.00 ₹29,500.00
Eco C2 ₹9.44 ₹9,440.00 ₹47,200.00
Cotton Braided Wicks Ready Made ₹12.00 ₹12,000.00 ₹60,000.00

Now the candles. Worked example, labelled: each 200 g candle holds 184 g of Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 at the 10 kg price (₹93.36), 16 g of Woody Oud at ₹4.53 a gram (₹72.50), one C2 wick (₹9.44) and your own jar at a worked-example ₹60.00: ₹235.30 of materials per candle, excluding labour, freight, packaging and GST. Suppose you buy 5,000 C2, pour 1,000 candles before the first late-burn complaint, and the wick turns out to be too strong for the bottom of that jar:

Exposure if the wick fails late · worked example
Materials only · excludes labour, freight, packaging, GST, refunds, returns and reputation · the jar price is the reader's, not CSI's
Item Quantity ₹ What happens to it
Candles poured on the wick 1,000 ₹2,35,300.00 Re-label with a shorter limit, rework, recall or write off: all bad
C2 wicks left 4,000 ₹37,760.00 Usable only where C2 passes another full-life test
Exposure ₹2,73,060.00 About 105 times the full test
Full-life test, for comparison 9 candles ₹2,611.72 Spent before any of the above

Even if you think the chance of a late failure is small, the sums don't favour skipping the test. Illustrative only, not CSI data: if a top-third-only check approved a wick that fails late one time in five (20%), the expected exposure in this example would be ₹54,612.00, against a test costing ₹2,611.72. The published post on someone who did buy first is 5,000 replacement wicks bought before testing, and the case for buying one size only after every major fragrance on it has passed is buying 1,000 wicks for production.

Argued against our own interest: nothing here gets cheaper by ordering early. C1 is ₹5.90, C2 ₹9.44 and Cotton Braided ₹12.00 a wick at every pack size. A 1,000-pack bought today and a 100-pack bought each month cost the same per wick; the difference is that the monthly buyer finds a late failure while the shelf is nearly empty.

What a short test misses: causes, ranked

A short test can be honest and still be wrong. Here is how.

The ranking is our judgement for a wick that passed early testing and failed in production. The first three are how the test was run; the rest are the candle.

Cause ranking · passed early, failed in customers' homes
Testing and burning conditions versus formulation · ₹ from CSI live pricing, 7 October 2026
Cause What you'd see later Discriminating test Fix Cost
1. Test stopped in the top third (testing) Complaints of tall flames, hot glass or smoke near the end Burn retained candles to the floor Full-life test before any bulk order ₹2,611.72 (this example)
2. Gentler than real use (testing: trimmed mid-burn, short sessions) Fine in your tests, sooty in homes Burn exactly to your label: one trim before lighting, full session length Label-faithful sessions Nothing
3. Still air in testing only (burning) Flicker and soot under customers' fans One candle near a fan, beside a still-air control Care wording; margin in the wick choice Nothing
4. Wick too strong for the lower jar (making: wick) Every candle grows and runs hot in the bottom third One CSI rung smaller to the floor beside the current Smaller rung, if the top still reaches the glass ₹118.00 (C1 20) or ₹94.40 (C2 10)
5. Tested in one fragrance, sold in many (making: oil, load) Late problems in the heavier scents only Full-life test in the heaviest oil on that wick Per-fragrance approval, or a lower load within both ceilings Your own test
6. Bulk lot differs from the sample (making: wick lot) Same formula, different flame from one carton Side-by-side burn: retained test wicks against the new lot Incoming check before release Three candles
7. Jar batch differs (making: glass) A new carton of jars runs hotter or wider Measure inside diameter; burn three from the new batch Jar batch on the record Three candles

Causes 1 and 2 are the commonest and the cheapest to remove. Cause 5 is a tendency, not CSI data: heavier, vanilla-rich or resinous oils and higher loads commonly need a different wick or carbon up more, so the heaviest fragrance on a wick is the one to test to the floor first. Causes 6 and 7 are why even a full-life approval should be re-checked when the 1,000-pack arrives; comparing a bulk lot against the development sample is comparing a new bulk wick lot against the sample.

The full-life test that protects the order

Three rungs, three candles each, every one burned to the floor.

The series' default test candle, labelled: 200 g at 8% = 16 g fragrance + 184 g wax (load as a percentage of total weight) in your own jar, here an 8 cm jar. Candidates bracket your current wick: C1, C2 and Cotton Braided, the three sized, tabbed CSI rungs, three candles each (9 in all). The ladder itself, how many rungs and which, is the published hub's job: which wick sizes to buy for a first 8 cm test. How many repeats are enough is how many repeat burns before approving a wick; this post is about doing it before the big order.

1
Pour all nine togetherOne wax lot, one oil lot (your heaviest fragrance for that wick, if you'll sell several), one jar batch, centred wicks. 144 g of oil and 1,656 g of wax. Keep three or four wicks of each rung back as the reference for the bulk lot.
2
Write the limits before burn oneFlame band (2.5–5 cm is a common rule of thumb), pool depth (about 1–1.5 cm), no visible smoke, a mushroom limit you set, your own glass limit, and the session length you'll print.
3
Cure, then burn as customers willSeveral CSI oil pages state 48–72 hours for soy; 3 days here. Trim to 5–6 mm before lighting only, 4-hour sessions in still air, weigh before and after.
4
Burn every candle to the floorAbout 7 sessions each in the worked example; about 10 days with the cure. Log flame, pool, mushroom, soot and glass at the end of each session, and every hour in the bottom third.
5
Judge each third separatelyTop, middle and bottom on their own sheets (evaluating top, middle and bottom separately). Approve only a rung that passes all three, in all three candles.
6
Only then orderOne month's production at a time, plus the reference check when the bulk lot arrives.
The approval rule (ours, labelled)
A rung is approved for bulk purchase when all three candles stay inside every limit written before burn one, in the top, middle and bottom thirds, to the floor, at the label's session length, trimmed only before lighting, in still air, and in the heaviest fragrance that will use it. One failing session in any candle fails the rung. An in-house protocol, not an industry standard; how far down a test candle must burn is how far down to burn a test candle.

Don't do this. Don't buy 1,000 wicks after one burn, or 5,000 after two. Don't approve on the average of three candles when one failed at the bottom. Don't test in your lightest fragrance and bulk-buy for the whole range. Don't let a deadline shorten the test; shorten the first production run instead and buy wicks for that. And don't hide a bottom-third problem behind a shorter label you never tested at.

The CSI buy list and the step to production

Test packs now, production by the month, and no pack bigger than your proof.

CSI's sized, tabbed wicks are three rungs, C1 → C2 → Cotton Braided, with no sized, tabbed wick between C1 and C2 or between C2 and Cotton Braided, none smaller than C1, and one wooden-wick listing with no widths. If your full-life test lands between two rungs, a 5,000-wick order of either would have been the wrong one; ask us on WhatsApp and we'll tell you plainly what we don't stock.

The step to production quantity

Only after the approval rule is met. Wicks = candles × wicks per candle × (1 + a defect allowance). Worked example, labelled: 600 single-wick candles a month plus 2% is 612 C2 wicks: 6 × 100 + 20 = 620 for ₹5,852.80. A 1,000-pack ties up ₹3,587.20 more for the same ₹9.44 a wick; 5,000 is about 8.2 months of stock, through every oil, wax and jar lot change in that time. Reorder point = daily use × your lead time + safety stock; CSI publishes no lead times, so ask on WhatsApp. If you want a large reserve for continuity, ask us about stock and lots rather than buying it; we won't promise stock depth or that one lot covers an order. The full purchase-quantity formula is calculating your wholesale wick quantity, and staging a 2,000-candle plan is replicates before 2,000 production wicks.

Diwali is 8 November 2026, 32 days from 7 October 2026. A 3-day cure and seven daily sessions take about 10 days, so a full-life test poured this week finishes with three weeks to spare. Then order one month's wicks, not five, and send the count on WhatsApp for stock, dispatch and a GST invoice.

Eco Candle Wicks — Thin (C1) and Thick (C2)
Both rungs are sold from small packs to 1,000s at the same price per wick: C1 ₹5.90 and C2 ₹9.44, whether you buy 20 or 1,000. That is the whole argument against buying 1,000 early: the big pack buys stock, not a discount. The C1 10-pack is out of stock on 7 October 2026, so the smallest C1 is the 20-pack. The page states no length, width or jar range in the text we captured and claims "minimal soot or smoke" (the page's claim). Argued against our own interest: we would sell you the 1,000-pack today; don't buy it until three candles have reached the floor.

Cotton Braided Wicks Ready Made
The page says it is "engineered for large-diameter candles exceeding 8 cm" and gives "Height of the wick is 10.16 cm"; "preventing tunneling" is the page's claim. In an 8 cm jar it is the top bracket of the ladder. Flat ₹12.00 a wick from 10 to 1,000, so 5,000 Cotton Braided would be ₹60,000.00 with no unit saving at all. Limitation: it is CSI's largest tabbed rung, with no size between it and C2.

If you were hoping to save by buying in bulk, this is the only tabbed CSI wick that gets cheaper per wick: ₹59.00 in 10s, ₹47.20 in 50s and ₹41.30 in 100s. The "Save 25%" label on the 50-pack works out at 20%; the 100-pack is 30%. The largest pack is 100, so 1,000–5,000 wooden wicks is a WhatsApp conversation, and one listing with no width options means one size to test. Limitation: wood is a different wick system and needs its own full-life test; a cotton approval doesn't carry over.

Woody Oud Fragrance Oil
Used for the per-candle cost here because its page states a candle load, "candles (6-10%)", and it is priced flat at ₹4.53 a gram from 100 g to 1 kg, so 16 g costs ₹72.50 at any of those sizes. Heavier, resinous oils commonly build more carbon late in a jar (a tendency, not CSI data), which is exactly what a top-third test misses. Argued against our own interest: test in the oil you will sell; if that's not Woody Oud, don't buy it for this.

Skip for now: every 500- and 1,000-pack until the approval rule is met; wooden wicks "because they're cheaper in bulk" (a different system, one width, its own test); and a 10 kg wax bag for the test.

The CSI principle
Buy wicks in proportion to your proof. Proof of the bottom third comes before the 1,000-pack.
Three rungs, three candles each, to the floor: ₹2,611.72 in materials. Then one month's wicks at a time, at the same price per wick as the 1,000-pack.
"Your customers will run the full-life test whether you do or not. Better to run it first, on nine candles."

Why trust this guide

CandleMakingSuppliesIndia sells the wicks, wax and oil named here, not finished candles. This page still tells you not to buy our 1,000-packs yet, that they cost no less per wick than our smallest packs, and that our tabbed range has no sizes between C1, C2 and Cotton Braided.

Every CSI price was checked on the live store on 7 October 2026, with stock checked per pack: the Eco C1 10-pack is out of stock and is not offered. CSI's largest tabbed-wick pack is 1,000; anything larger, stock depth and lot continuity are confirmed on WhatsApp, never promised here.

The ₹60.00 jar price, 1,000 candles poured before a complaint, 7.0 g/h, a 20 g floor, 600 candles a month, a 2% allowance and the one-in-five miss rate are labelled worked examples or illustrations, not CSI data. The flame band, pool depth, trim and floor are common rules of thumb. For bulk pricing, GST invoicing, and MSDS and IFRA documentation on request, message us on WhatsApp at +91 7397976926.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to burn a candle all the way down to test a wick?
Yes, for anything you'll sell. Many wicks that are fine at the top grow, smoke or run the glass hot in the bottom third. Burn at least three candles per candidate to about 1 cm from the base.
Are candle wicks cheaper if I buy 1,000?
Not at CSI for Eco C1, Eco C2 or Cotton Braided: the price per wick is the same at every pack. Only Performance Wooden Wicks get cheaper per wick, up to the 100-pack.
How much does a full-life wick test cost?
In our worked example, three CSI rungs × three 200 g candles cost ₹2,611.72 in wicks, wax, oil and jars, and take about 10 days. Your own oil and jars change the figure.
What can go wrong if I bulk-buy wicks before testing?
The wick can prove too strong at the bottom of the jar after you've poured and sold hundreds of candles. You're left with candles to rework or recall and wicks that only fit other products if they pass their own tests.
How many wicks should I buy for testing?
The smallest in-stock pack of each candidate rung: at CSI, the C1 20-pack, C2 10-pack and Cotton Braided 10-pack, ₹332.40 together. That covers three candles each with spares.
Should I re-test when my bulk wick order arrives?
Yes, briefly. Burn the new lot beside wicks you kept back from the test before releasing it to production. CSI doesn't publish wick lot data, so your own comparison is the check.
Before you buy 1,000–5,000 wicks
Test three rungs to the floor, approve on the bottom third, then buy one month at a time.
Test wicks ₹332.40; the whole test ₹2,611.72 with wax, oil and your jars. Ask us about stock and lots on WhatsApp before a big order; we'll say plainly what we can and can't confirm.

Editorial standards & sources
About this guide: part of CSI's cluster on late-burn heat, end of life and full-life testing (6961–6980). It covers why full-life burn testing comes before a 1,000–5,000 wick order: why late failures appear at the bottom, the cost of being wrong against the cost of the test, what short tests miss, a nine-candle full-life test with an approval rule, and buying test packs first, then production by the month.

Customer reviews: The six reviews at the top of this page are genuine, published Judge.me reviews left by CSI customers on the product pages named on each card — Eco Candle Wicks, Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 (Flakes Form) For Container Candles, Woody Oud Fragrance Oil. They are general product reviews, not assessments of the burn and wick advice on this page. Names, star ratings, dates and products are as recorded by Judge.me and wording is unedited. "Verified buyer" appears only on reviews Judge.me recorded as verified — Monika Deep, Payal Patel, Renam Dhoundiyal, Thenirvaofficial, Subhankar Roy. Non-price figures: "1,000–5,000 wicks" is the reader's range (title). The 200 g test candle at 8% (16 g oil + 184 g wax, total-weight basis) is the series default, labelled. The ₹60.00 jar price is a reader worked example, not a CSI price. 1,000 candles poured before a complaint, 7.0 g/h, a 20 g floor, two burns a week, 600 candles a month, a 2% allowance and a one-in-five miss rate are labelled worked examples or illustrations. Wax ceiling as the page states (CSI 464 up to 10%), a formulation limit; Woody Oud's page states "candles (6-10%)". The flame band (2.5–5 cm), pool depth, 5–6 mm trim and 1 cm floor are common rules of thumb. No glass-temperature limit is given or implied. Costs exclude labour, freight, packaging and GST. Diwali 8 November 2026 is a calendar fact.
