Candle Business Guides · Fragrance Oil × Quantity
On CSI's candle fragrance oils the price per gram falls sharply from the 15 g bottle to 50 g, a little more to 100 g, and then barely moves. This guide measures that fall size by size across the range, shows the oils that break the pattern, and explains what "bulk" really buys you before and after the 1 kg pack.
1.2%
median per-gram saving from a 100 g bottle to a 1 kg pack across 86 candle fragrance oils with both in stock · 40 of them save nothing · 15 g → 1 kg median 25% · CSI live pricing, September 2026
Quick answers — read this first
How much cheaper is fragrance oil in bulk? Across the 49 oils with all five sizes in stock, the per-gram price at 1 kg is a median 25% below the 15 g bottle. But the median oil has already made 92% of that fall by 100 g.

Where is the real price break? Between 15 g and 50 g. It is the largest single step on 40 of those 49 oils (median 14.6%). From 100 g to 1 kg the median saving across 86 oils is 1.2%, and 40 oils save nothing at all.

Are there exceptions? Yes. Citronella drops 61.5% per gram from 100 g to 500 g; Cinnamon and Pumpkin Spice step down 10% at 1 kg; and on Saffron Cedarwood the 1 kg pack costs more per gram than the 500 g.

What about more than 1 kg? 1 kg is the largest listed fragrance pack. Several 1 kg packs at the listed price set the ceiling; anything larger or recurring is quoted on WhatsApp.
The short answer
Bulk starts small: the 15 g bottle is a smelling size priced as one. Move to 50 g or 100 g and most of the per-gram saving is already yours.
Check the step, not the size: on most oils 100 g, 500 g and 1 kg sit within a few percent per gram. Buy the size you'll pour, not the size that sounds like bulk — unless the listing shows a real step.
Above 1 kg, ask: nothing larger is listed, so there is no listed bulk rate to extrapolate. Send oils, kilos and frequency on WhatsApp.
Median price per gram at each size, as % of the 15 g bottle — 49 oils with all five sizes in stock 15 g 100 · the smelling-size price 50 g 85.4 · −14.6 points — the big step 100 g 80.9 · −4.5 points 500 g 76.7 · −4.2 points 1 kg 75.0 · −1.7 points 92% of the median fall is done by 100 g Largest single step: 15 g → 50 g on 40 oils · 50 g → 100 g on 6 · 100 g → 500 g on 3 · 500 g → 1 kg on none
Bar length is the median oil's price per gram at that size, with the 15 g bottle set at 100. The ladder is steep at the top and almost flat at the bottom: the last step, from 500 g to 1 kg, is never the largest step on any of the 49 oils.
Straight answer
What is the bulk price of candle fragrance oil in India, and at what quantity does it start?
At CSI, "bulk" on fragrance oil starts much smaller than most buyers expect. Most candle fragrance oils are listed in 15 g, 50 g, 100 g, 500 g and 1 kg. Across the 49 oils with all five sizes in stock, the price per gram at 1 kg is a median 25% below the 15 g bottle — but the median oil has made 92% of that fall by 100 g, and on 40 of the 49 the biggest single step is the first one, from 15 g to 50 g. Past 100 g the ladder is close to flat: across all 86 oils with both a 100 g and a 1 kg pack in stock, the median per-gram saving from 100 g to 1 kg is just 1.2%, and 40 of them save nothing. Sandalwood is ₹5.03 a gram at 100 g, 500 g and 1 kg alike; Lavender goes from ₹5.40 to ₹5.22. The steep ladders belong to lower-priced oils: British Rose falls 51.2% from ₹6.29 to ₹3.07 a gram. A few oils break the pattern — Citronella drops 61.5% at 500 g — so read each listing. Above 1 kg nothing is listed: several 1 kg packs at the listed price are the ceiling, and larger or recurring volumes are quoted on WhatsApp. Buy the quantity you will pour, in whichever pack gives that quantity the lowest per-gram price — not the biggest pack on the page.
One line: on candle fragrance oil the bulk saving is mostly captured by 50–100 g; from 100 g to 1 kg the median oil saves 1.2% a gram, and above 1 kg the price is a WhatsApp quote, not a listed rate.
Moving off 15 g trial bottles? British Rose 100 g ₹342.20, Citrus Lemon 100 g ₹300, Roasted Coffee 100 g ₹390 and Sandalwood 100 g ₹502.68 — on each, the 1 kg pack is at most 10.3% cheaper per gram.

The five-size ladder, and what was measured

A price list is a staircase. The only question is where the tall steps are.

CSI lists 106 fragrance oil products. They do not all come in the same sizes, and the ladder shape matters before any percentages do. Classic candle oils mostly ship in five sizes, from a 15 g smelling bottle to a 1 kg pack. Many perfume-style oils ship in 50 g, 100 g and 1 kg only. Some newer oils start at 100 g. Here is the full picture, from the live catalogue.

Pack-size ladders across 106 fragrance oil listings · CSI live catalogue, September 2026
Which sizes each oil is listed in, and what that means for per-gram comparisons
Sizes listed Listings Typical per-gram pattern What it means for a buyer
15 g · 50 g · 100 g · 500 g · 1 kg 55 (49 with all five in stock) Steep from 15 g to 50–100 g, then nearly flat The main subject of this guide — the break is early
50 g · 100 g · 1 kg 22 (15 with all three in stock) Linear on 14 of the 15: identical per gram at every size No bulk step at all — buy by need, not by pack
100 g · 500 g · 1 kg 15 Varies by oil — check each listing No 15 g or 50 g sample; test with 100 g
50 g · 100 g · 500 g · 1 kg 12 Varies by oil — check each listing 50 g is the smallest test size
Single listing without size variants 2 Mogra (100 g) and a 1 kg Frankincense and Tonka listing, both currently sold out

The linear ladders are worth a sentence of their own. On 14 of the 15 in-stock oils sold as 50 g, 100 g and 1 kg, the price per gram is identical within 0.2% at every size — one perfume-inspired oil lists ₹648, ₹1,296 and ₹12,960, which is ₹12.96 a gram whichever you buy. The exception is Mint Sandalwood, which falls from ₹5.98 a gram at 50 g to ₹5.00 at 1 kg (16.4%). On a linear ladder, "buying in bulk" earns nothing per gram. It only buys fewer bottles.

The mistake: assuming every bigger pack is cheaper per gram. It is true often enough to feel like a rule and false often enough to cost money. On a linear ladder, a kilo bought "for the bulk price" is simply a kilo — at the same rate as a 50 g bottle — and if half of it sits unused when you drop the scent, you paid a full per-gram price for oil you never poured. Work out the per-gram price of every size on the listing before deciding which one is the bulk buy.

Six oils, every per-gram step

Six widely used oils with all five sizes in stock, from the steepest ladder to the flattest. Each cell is the listed price divided by grams; the figure in brackets is the per-gram fall from the size to its left. The last column is the whole fall from 15 g to 1 kg.

Price per gram by pack size · CSI live pricing, September 2026
How far the per-gram price falls at each step on six oils
Oil 15 g 50 g 100 g 500 g 1 kg 15 g → 1 kg
British Rose ₹6.29 ₹4.25 (−32.5%) ₹3.42 (−19.4%) ₹3.19 (−6.9%) ₹3.07 (−3.7%) −51.2%
Citrus Lemon ₹5.43 ₹3.40 (−37.4%) ₹3.00 (−11.8%) ₹2.84 (−5.3%) ₹2.83 (−0.3%) −47.8%
Roasted Coffee ₹6.21 ₹4.60 (−26.0%) ₹3.90 (−15.2%) ₹3.78 (−3.1%) ₹3.74 (−1.1%) −39.9%
Lavender ₹7.00 ₹5.40 (−22.9%) ₹5.40 (0%) ₹5.24 (−3.0%) ₹5.22 (−0.4%) −25.4%
Sandalwood ₹6.21 ₹5.43 (−12.7%) ₹5.03 (−7.4%) ₹5.03 (0%) ₹5.03 (0%) −19.1%
Dark Vanilla ₹8.67 ₹8.20 (−5.4%) ₹7.90 (−3.7%) ₹7.68 (−2.8%) ₹7.65 (−0.4%) −11.8%
Worked out above: per gram = listed price ÷ grams; step fall = 1 − (per gram at the larger size ÷ per gram at the smaller size). British Rose: ₹94.40 ÷ 15 = ₹6.29 · ₹212.40 ÷ 50 = ₹4.25 (−32.5%) · ₹342.20 ÷ 100 = ₹3.42 (−19.4%) · ₹1,593 ÷ 500 = ₹3.19 (−6.9%) · ₹3,068 ÷ 1,000 = ₹3.07 (−3.7%); whole fall 1 − 3.068 ÷ 6.293 = 51.2%. Sandalwood: ₹93.22 ÷ 15 = ₹6.21 · ₹271.40 ÷ 50 = ₹5.43 · ₹502.68 ÷ 100, ₹2,513.40 ÷ 500 and ₹5,026.80 ÷ 1,000 all = ₹5.03.

Read down the 1 kg column and the ladder's logic appears. The oils with the lowest kilo prices have the steepest ladders. British Rose, Citrus Lemon and Roasted Coffee all cost under ₹4 a gram at 1 kg and fall 39.9% to 51.2% from the 15 g bottle; Dark Vanilla, at ₹7.65 a gram, falls only 11.8%. The 15 g bottle is priced close to the same few rupees across all six — ₹81.42 to ₹130 — so an inexpensive oil looks dear in a sample and a premium oil looks almost the same as its kilo. Never judge an oil's price from its trial bottle.

The second pattern is where each ladder goes flat. Sandalwood stops falling at 100 g. Lavender is flat from 50 g to 100 g, dips 3% at 500 g, and barely moves to the kilo. Citrus Lemon's last step is 0.3%. On five of the six oils, 500 g to 1 kg is worth about 1% a gram or nothing at all; British Rose is the only one where the kilo still earns a meaningful 3.7%.

Where the real price break sits

If you want the bulk rate on fragrance oil, it is waiting at 50 g — not at 1 kg.

Six oils show a pattern; the whole range confirms it. The table below measures every step on the 49 oils with all five sizes in stock, then checks the 100 g to 1 kg step across every oil that lists both.

Per-gram fall at each step · 49 oils with all five sizes in stock (last row: 86 oils) · CSI live pricing, September 2026
Median, range and how often each step is worth nothing
Step Median per-gram fall Smallest Largest Oils where the step saves nothing Oils where it is the biggest step
15 g → 50 g 14.6% −2.3% 43.8% 1 of 49 40 of 49
50 g → 100 g 3.6% −0.3% 26.1% 19 of 49 6 of 49
100 g → 500 g 2.8% −0.1% 61.5% 22 of 49 3 of 49
500 g → 1 kg 0% −32.9% 10.0% 30 of 49 0 of 49
15 g → 1 kg (whole ladder) 25.0% 0.8% 69.4% 0 of 49
100 g → 1 kg (all 86 oils listing both) 1.2% 62.3% 40 of 86

Three conclusions follow, and each one changes how a candle business should buy. First, the 15 g bottle carries a premium and nothing else does consistently. The median oil's 50 g pack is 14.6% cheaper per gram, and that single step is the biggest on 40 of 49 oils. Second, by 100 g the job is done. The median oil has captured 92% of its entire 15 g-to-1 kg fall at 100 g, and 33 of the 49 have captured at least 80%. Third, the kilo is a convenience size far more often than a price size. From 500 g to 1 kg, 30 of 49 oils save nothing per gram, and across all 86 oils listing both 100 g and 1 kg, 40 save nothing between those two sizes either.

The trap: buying a kilo "for the bulk price" on a flat ladder. A maker adds a 1 kg Sandalwood to the cart because it feels like the grown-up buy. At ₹5.03 a gram it costs exactly the same as ten 100 g bottles (10 × ₹502.68 = ₹5,026.80). If the scent sells 20 candles before the line changes, those use 320 g and 680 g of the kilo is left over. Four 100 g bottles, bought as needed, would have covered the same 20 candles at the same per-gram price. On a flat ladder, size is a stock decision — decide it on how fast you pour, not on the price.
A 30-second per-gram check
Open the product page, note each size's price, and divide by grams. If the step you are about to take saves less than 2–3% per gram, the bigger pack is a convenience decision, not a saving — buy it only if you will pour it. If it saves 10% or more, as on Cinnamon's step to 1 kg, the bigger pack is a genuine bulk rate. That threshold is a rule of thumb for this price list, not a CSI policy.

The oils that break the pattern

Averages hide the listings that reward — or punish — a particular pack. These are the ones a bulk buyer should know by name.

Exceptions to the early-break pattern · CSI live pricing, September 2026
Oils where a late step matters, and what to buy because of it
Oil Listed sizes that matter Per-gram step What it means
Citronella 100 g ₹767 · 500 g ₹1,475 · 1 kg ₹2,891 ₹7.67 → ₹2.95 (−61.5%) at 500 g A 500 g pack costs ₹59 less than two 100 g bottles. Skip 100 g entirely.
Honeydew Melon 100 g ₹435.42 · 500 g ₹1,699.20 ₹4.35 → ₹3.40 (−22.0%) at 500 g The 100 g is fractionally dearer per gram than the 50 g; 500 g is the real break.
Mango Coconut 100 g ₹500 · 500 g ₹1,982 ₹5.00 → ₹3.96 (−20.7%) at 500 g 500 g costs less than four 100 g bottles (₹2,000).
Verbena 100 g ₹590 · 500 g ₹2,478 · 1 kg ₹4,720 −16.0% at 500 g, then −4.8% at 1 kg A genuine two-step ladder; 20% cheaper per gram at 1 kg than 100 g.
Cinnamon and Pumpkin Spice 500 g ₹2,950 · 1 kg ₹5,310 ₹5.90 → ₹5.31 (−10.0%) at 1 kg 500 g is no cheaper than 100 g per gram; the kilo is the only bulk step.
Eucalyptus Spearmint 500 g ₹1,652 · 1 kg ₹3,068 ₹3.30 → ₹3.07 (−7.1%) at 1 kg One of few oils whose kilo still earns a clear saving.
Saffron Cedarwood and Sage and Cedarwood 500 g ₹2,584.20 · 1 kg ₹6,867.60 ₹5.17 → ₹6.87 (+32.9%) at 1 kg The kilo costs more per gram than the 500 g. Confirm on WhatsApp before ordering either.

The last row is the one to act on carefully. A 1 kg pack that is a third dearer per gram than its own 500 g pack is unusual enough that the listing may be updated; don't build a costing on either figure without confirming it. The general lesson from this table is simpler: the ladder is set per oil, so "buy the kilo" and "buy the 100 g" are both wrong as blanket rules.

What each pack size costs per candle

Per-gram percentages are abstract. The same ladder expressed as the oil inside one 200 g candle at an 8% load (16 g) shows what each size really costs you at the bench. The 15 g column is theoretical — a 15 g bottle does not fill one such candle — but it shows what testing costs relative to producing.

Oil per 200 g candle @ 8% at each pack's per-gram price · CSI live pricing, September 2026
The cost of a candle's fragrance if you buy it in each size
Oil At 15 g price 50 g 100 g 500 g 1 kg 100 g vs 1 kg, per candle
British Rose ₹100.69 ₹67.97 ₹54.75 ₹50.98 ₹49.09 ₹5.66
Citrus Lemon ₹86.85 ₹54.40 ₹48 ₹45.44 ₹45.31 ₹2.69
Roasted Coffee ₹99.43 ₹73.60 ₹62.40 ₹60.48 ₹59.81 ₹2.59
Lavender ₹112.02 ₹86.40 ₹86.40 ₹83.84 ₹83.54 ₹2.86
Sandalwood ₹99.43 ₹86.85 ₹80.43 ₹80.43 ₹80.43 ₹0
Dark Vanilla ₹138.67 ₹131.20 ₹126.40 ₹122.88 ₹122.34 ₹4.06

The last column is the whole case for — or against — the kilo. Between 100 g and 1 kg, the oil in a 200 g candle changes by ₹0 to ₹5.66 on these six oils. Between 15 g and 50 g it changes by ₹7.47 (Dark Vanilla) to ₹32.72 (British Rose). If you have been pouring saleable candles from 15 g bottles, moving to 50 g or 100 g is the largest fragrance saving available to you. Moving from 100 g to 1 kg is a few rupees a candle, and only worth it if the kilo will be poured.

Climbing the ladder without overpaying

A buying sequence that captures the bulk rate where it actually sits, without tying cash up in oil you have not proven. It works for any oil on the five-size ladder.

1
Smell at 15 g — and only smellThe 15 g bottle is almost always the dearest gram on the listing, so use it for what it is good at: shortlisting. Smell it, blot it, compare it with its neighbours. Don't pour saleable candles from it.
2
Pour-test at 50 g or 100 gThis is where the per-gram price has already fallen most of the way. A 100 g bottle fills six 200 g candles at 8% — enough for a wick comparison and two burn days. Cure and burn before going further; see testing hot throw before launch.
3
Read this oil's ladder before sizing upDivide each size's price by its grams. If 500 g or 1 kg is a real step (Citronella, Verbena, Cinnamon), buy there. If it is flat (Sandalwood, most perfume-style oils), keep buying the size you will pour before your next recipe or range change.
4
Buy 1 kg when the candle count says soA kilo fills 62 × 200 g candles at 8%. Commit when a scent will genuinely fill that many — the per-gram price rarely justifies it on its own. Whether a scent has earned that is covered in buying 1 kg of candle fragrance oil.
5
Above 1 kg, ask rather than assumeNothing larger than 1 kg is listed, and because the listed ladder is flat at the top on most oils, there is no listed trend to extrapolate. Price several 1 kg packs as the ceiling, then send oils, kilos, frequency, GST number and pincode on WhatsApp for a quote.
The CSI principle
Buy the size where the price stops falling, not the size where the label says bulk.
On most candle fragrance oils that size is 50 g or 100 g for testing and whatever you will pour for production. The kilo is the right buy when your candle count fills it — and on a handful of listed ladders, when the price genuinely steps down.

Steep ladder · floral
British Rose Fragrance Oil
The steepest of the six: ₹629.33 per 100 g in the 15 g bottle, ₹306.80 at 1 kg. It is also the oil where every size step pays — even 500 g to 1 kg saves 3.7% — so if rose is a staple, climbing the ladder is justified at each rung. A customer who has tested for years calls it strong in cold and hot throw.

Sandalwood Fragrance Oil
The clearest flat ladder among the classic oils: ₹502.68 per 100 g at 100 g, 500 g and 1 kg. The only bulk steps are 15 g to 50 g and 50 g to 100 g. After that, pack size is purely about how much Sandalwood you will pour — which, for Diwali and wedding lines, may well be a kilo. See sandalwood fragrance oils for Indian luxury candles.

Citronella Fragrance Oil
The biggest single step in the range: ₹767 per 100 g at 50 g and 100 g, ₹295 per 100 g at 500 g. That makes the 500 g pack cheaper than two 100 g bottles, so a maker making outdoor or monsoon candles should skip the small sizes once the scent is chosen. At ₹2,891 it is also the second-lowest 1 kg price of all 87 oils in stock at that size.

Break at the kilo · spice
Cinnamon Fragrance Oil
A ladder that saves its step for the end: ₹590 per 100 g at both 100 g and 500 g, then ₹531 per 100 g at 1 kg. For a festive spice candle poured in volume, the 500 g pack earns nothing over two 100 g bottles, and the kilo is the only size with a real bulk rate — 10% a gram. Pumpkin Spice follows the identical ladder.

For listed multiples, the arithmetic is straightforward: two kilos of Citrus Lemon is 2 × ₹2,832 = ₹5,664; three kilos of Sandalwood, 3 × ₹5,026.80 = ₹15,080.40. Those totals are the most that quantity should cost. The biggest discount on fragrance oil is walking away from the 15 g bottle. The rest is mostly just a bigger bottle.

Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. A supplier's bulk-price page usually exists to move bigger packs. This one shows that on most of our oils the kilo is not cheaper per gram than the 100 g bottle, names the oils where it is, and flags a listing where it costs more — because a maker who buys the right size for their pour rate stays profitable and keeps ordering.

Every price and pack size is taken from live CSI stock in September 2026, and every oil links to its product page, where current pricing always takes precedence. Per-gram prices and step percentages were calculated from listed prices for every candle fragrance oil with the relevant sizes in stock; essential oils, attar, perfume and diffuser bases are excluded. Reviews are customers' own words, not tests.

Frequently asked questions

Is candle fragrance oil cheaper when you buy in bulk?
Per gram, yes — but most of the saving comes early. Across 49 CSI oils with all five sizes in stock, 1 kg is a median 25% cheaper per gram than the 15 g bottle, and 92% of that fall is reached by 100 g. From 100 g to 1 kg the median saving across 86 oils is 1.2%, and 40 oils save nothing. Some oils, such as Citronella and Cinnamon, have real later steps.
Which pack size of fragrance oil gives the best value?
For testing, 50 g or 100 g: the per-gram price has already fallen most of the way from the 15 g bottle. For production, the size you will pour before your next range change — on flat ladders like Sandalwood (₹5.03 a gram at 100 g, 500 g and 1 kg) the kilo is not cheaper. Check each listing: Citronella's 500 g pack is 61.5% cheaper per gram than its 100 g.
How much does a 15 g fragrance oil sample cost per gram compared with 1 kg?
It depends on the oil. British Rose is ₹6.29 a gram at 15 g and ₹3.07 at 1 kg (51.2% less); Lavender ₹7.00 against ₹5.22 (25.4%); Dark Vanilla ₹8.67 against ₹7.65 (11.8%). The median across 49 oils is 25%. Because 15 g bottles are priced within a narrow band, inexpensive oils look dearest in trial size — judge an oil's price from its 100 g or 1 kg pack, not its sample.
Is a 500 g fragrance oil pack cheaper per gram than 1 kg?
Usually they are the same or very close: on 30 of 49 oils the 500 g to 1 kg step saves nothing. A few kilos do step down, such as Cinnamon and Pumpkin Spice (10%) and Eucalyptus Spearmint (7.1%). On Saffron Cedarwood and Sage and Cedarwood the 500 g pack is currently cheaper per gram than the kilo — confirm that listing on WhatsApp before ordering.
Can I buy candle fragrance oil in bulk above 1 kg?
1 kg is the largest listed fragrance pack. You can order several 1 kg packs at the listed price — two kilos of Citrus Lemon is ₹5,664 — and that total is the ceiling for the quantity. For larger or recurring volumes, message CSI on WhatsApp at +91 7397976926 with the oils, kilos, frequency, GST number and delivery pincode for a quote, GST invoice and documentation.
Why is the 50 g, 100 g and 1 kg price the same per gram on some fragrance oils?
Some listings are simply priced linearly. On 14 of the 15 in-stock oils sold as 50 g, 100 g and 1 kg — mostly perfume-style oils — the per-gram price is identical within 0.2% at every size; one lists ₹648, ₹1,296 and ₹12,960. On those oils a bigger pack buys fewer bottles, not a lower rate, so order the quantity you will actually use.

Figures verified September 2026: Counted: the 106 fragrance oil listings in the CSI catalogue (perfume-inspired and BBW-inspired oils included; essential oils, attar, perfume and diffuser bases excluded). Ladder counts: 55 listings in 15 g/50 g/100 g/500 g/1 kg (49 with all five in stock), 22 in 50 g/100 g/1 kg (15 with all three in stock), 15 in 100 g/500 g/1 kg, 12 in 50 g/100 g/500 g/1 kg, 2 without size variants. Step statistics use the 49 fully in-stock five-size oils; the 100 g → 1 kg statistic uses all 86 oils with both sizes in stock. Per gram = listed price ÷ grams; step fall = 1 − larger-size per gram ÷ smaller-size per gram; "saves nothing" = a fall of 0.05% or less (tiny negatives from rupee rounding counted as zero).
