CSI product-brief guides · Strong-fragrance candles
For bedrooms the controls are load, candle size and burn length, and you need all three, not just a higher percentage.

Strong fragrance · lavender
A bedroom is a small room you stay in for a long time. The right lavender candle is the one that is noticeable at the door and comfortable at the pillow.
11.25 g
Lavender in a 150 g candle at 7.5%, the middle of the suggested ladder
Quick answers — read this first
What load should a bedroom lavender candle use? Test 6%, 7.5% and 9% of total candle weight as suggested starting points. All sit inside the page's stated 6–10% range.

Which jar suits a bedroom? Try the CSI 150 g apothecary jar and the 120 g shiny jar (6 cm diameter per its page). A smaller pool releases less scent into a small room.

Is CSI Lavender strong? Its product page rates it Strong. That is the page's own rating, not a measurement, so your room test decides the load.

Which wick should I test? Eco C1 first, then Eco C2 if C1 cannot build a full pool. CSI publishes no wick chart.
The short answer
Load ladder: 6%, 7.5% and 9% in a 150 g candle: 9 g, 11.25 g and 13.5 g of Lavender.
Formats: 150 g apothecary jar at ₹94.40 each, or 120 g shiny jar at ₹47.20 each.
Cost: ₹229.44 for 150 g at 7.5%; ₹153.59 for 120 g at 7%, packaging excluded.

Straight answer
I Want to Make a Strong Lavender Candle for Bedrooms — How Do I Balance Noticeable Fragrance With Comfortable Room Intensity?
Balance it with three controls, not one. CSI Lavender is rated Strong on its page and lists a 6–10% candle load, so start lower than you would for a living room. Pour a 150 g candle at 6%, 7.5% and 9% (9 g, 11.25 g and 13.5 g of oil) in CSI 464, and add a 120 g jar at 6% and 7% to see whether a smaller melt pool suits the room better. Wick with Eco C1, then C2 if needed. Judge each candle in an actual bedroom from the doorway and from where your customer lies down. The winner is noticeable on entry and still comfortable after a long session.
One line: for a bedroom, test lower loads and a smaller jar together, and judge throw from the bed rather than the doorway.
Lavender is single-note: fresh lavender on top, herbal green in the middle and soft musk in the base.

Why a bedroom needs a different brief

The bedroom candle is judged twice: when someone walks in, and an hour later when they are trying to sleep.

A living-room candle competes with space, open doors and moving air. A bedroom is smaller, often closed, and occupied for long stretches. A load that feels generous in the hall can feel heavy at the pillow. So the target is two-sided: noticeable when you enter, comfortable once you are settled.

Lavender from CSI is a single-note oil: fresh lavender on top, herbal green in the middle, soft musk in the base. Its page rates it Strong and states a candle load of 6–10%. A customer review on the store says: "Quality of fragrance is very good. Cold through and hot though both are perfect." Neither the rating nor a review tells you the right load for a small room, and that is what your test is for.

There is also a safety habit that belongs on a bedroom candle more than any other. Bedroom candles are often lit in the evening, close to the time someone falls asleep. Your label and your listing should say plainly to extinguish the candle before sleeping and never to leave it burning unattended. That is not a fragrance decision, but it shapes how long a typical session lasts, and so it shapes what load feels right.

Three controls: load, candle size and burn length

Most makers only turn the load dial. You have three.

Load

Lower loads in the stated range are the obvious lever. The ladder below starts at the bottom of the range and steps up, with every figure a suggested starting point.

Candle size

A smaller jar makes a smaller melt pool, and a smaller pool releases less fragrance into the air at once. The CSI 120 g shiny glass jar lists a 6 cm diameter; the 150 g clear apothecary jar lists an outer rim of about 7 cm and a base of about 6.5 cm. Testing both shows whether downsizing the vessel gives you a gentler room without weakening the scent itself.

Wax

Keep the wax fixed at CSI 464 for this round. Its stated load goes up to 10%, so the whole ladder sits inside it, and changing the wax at the same time as the load and the jar would leave you with too many variables to read. A customer review on the store calls it "One of the best wax for container Candles. Easy to work with, especially if you are a beginner." That is a review, not a test result for your bedroom; your own burn decides.

Burn length

How long a customer burns the candle changes how strong the room gets. You cannot control that, but you can suggest it on your label once you have tested it. As a suggested starting point, judge each test candle at 30 minutes and at two hours, and decide which session length you would recommend.

The bedroom test ladder

Load is calculated on total candle weight. A 150 g candle at 7.5% holds 150 × 0.075 = 11.25 g of oil and 138.75 g of wax.

Test ladder
Lavender in CSI 464
Candle Jar Load Lavender Wax Wick
1–2 150 g apothecary 6% 9 g 141 g C1 and C2
3–4 150 g apothecary 7.5% 11.25 g 138.75 g C1 and C2
5–6 150 g apothecary 9% 13.5 g 136.5 g C1 and C2
7 120 g shiny jar 6% 7.2 g 112.8 g Eco C1
8 120 g shiny jar 7% 8.4 g 111.6 g Eco C1

The fill weights come from the jars' listings; weigh your own fill before you pour, because a jar's real level may differ. Pour the 150 g jar below the 85°C its page states as safe for hot pour. Lavender's page does not publish a flashpoint, so add it at a moderate temperature and never with the melter at its maximum setting.

Smaller jar, smaller wick
Start the 120 g jar on Eco C1. A wick that suits a 7 cm jar can be too lively in a 6 cm one; if C1 leaves a full pool, there is no reason to try anything larger.

How to judge comfort, not just strength

Strength is easy to score; comfort takes a method. Use a real bedroom, with the door closed and the fan off, and test one candle per session. Let the room air out fully between sessions.

1
Doorway checkAfter 30 minutes, step out for a minute, come back in and note whether the lavender is noticeable on entry. Score it 1–5 as a suggested scale.
2
Bed checkSit or lie where the customer would and stay for ten minutes. Note whether the scent is pleasant, too heavy, or gone.
3
Two-hour checkRepeat both after two hours. Many candles that pass at 30 minutes are too strong at two hours in a small room.
4
Burn notesRecord pool width, flame steadiness and any soot. Extinguish before you leave the room; a test candle is never left burning unattended.

Use more than one nose. Your own sense of smell adapts after a few minutes in a scented room, and you have probably been handling lavender all day. As a suggested starting point, ask two other people to do the bed check without knowing which load they are smelling, and note where they agree. If they consistently find one load comfortable and another too much, that is a clearer answer than your own score.

Strong at the door, too heavy at the bed. Step down the load or move to the 120 g jar before you change anything else. Shortening your recommended burn session is the third option.
Pleasant at the bed, faint at the door. Step up one rung of the load ladder, or check whether the smaller wick is leaving a narrow pool.

Cost per candle at each bedroom setting

Lavender is ₹5,221.00 per kg, so ₹5.221 per gram. CSI 464 is ₹0.5074 per gram. The 150 g jar is ₹944.00 ÷ 10 = ₹94.40, the 120 g jar is ₹236.00 ÷ 5 = ₹47.20, and Eco C1 is ₹5.90.

Cost build-up
Eco C1 on every candle
Setting Wax Oil Jar Wick Total
150 g at 6% 141 g = ₹71.54 9 g = ₹46.99 ₹94.40 ₹5.90 ₹218.83
150 g at 7.5% 138.75 g = ₹70.40 11.25 g = ₹58.74 ₹94.40 ₹5.90 ₹229.44
150 g at 9% 136.5 g = ₹69.26 13.5 g = ₹70.48 ₹94.40 ₹5.90 ₹240.04
120 g at 7% 111.6 g = ₹56.63 8.4 g = ₹43.86 ₹47.20 ₹5.90 ₹153.59

The 120 g format costs ₹75.85 less than the 150 g at 7.5%, mostly because of the jar. If it also wins on comfort, you have a better bedroom product and a lower cost. Add packaging, labels, labour, shipping and GST from your own figures.

Buy this to test, buy this once validated

The ladder uses 2 × (9 + 11.25 + 13.5) + 7.2 + 8.4 = 83.1 g of Lavender, so buy the 100 g pack at ₹540.00. Wax comes to 2 × (141 + 138.75 + 136.5) + 112.8 + 111.6 = 1,056.9 g, so buy CSI 464 1 kg ₹507.40 plus 500 g ₹260.00. Add a pack of ten 150 g jars ₹944.00, five 120 g jars ₹236.00, Eco C1 20 wicks ₹118.00 and Eco C2 10 wicks ₹94.40. The test set totals ₹2,699.80.

Once validated: 50 bedroom candles in the 150 g jar at 7.5% need 50 × 11.25 g = 562.5 g of Lavender. That is more than the 500 g pack, so either a 500 g at ₹2,620.00 plus a 100 g at ₹540.00, totalling ₹3,160.00, or the 1 kg at ₹5,221.00 if the next batch is close behind. Fifty 120 g candles at 7% need only 50 × 8.4 g = 420 g, which a single 500 g pack covers. Their wax is 50 × 111.6 g = 5,580 g, so a 5 kg CSI 464 pack at ₹2,537.00 plus a 1 kg at ₹507.40. Whichever format wins, buy wicks of the approved size only.

Argue against interest
Stronger is not the goal for a bedroom.
A lavender that wins in the hall can lose at the pillow. Selling a smaller, gentler candle that customers relight is better business than a powerful one they put away.
Judge a bedroom candle from the bed, not from the doorway.

Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials and production equipment, not finished candles. This guide separates general candle-making practice from what CSI's own product pages state, says plainly where CSI publishes no figure (wick sizes, burn times, hardness), and labels every wick, load, test count or margin as a starting point for your own validation.

Prices are live CSI prices from October 2026; product pages are authoritative. Where a spec is not published — such as a wick size for your jar, a mould's cycle life or a wax's survival temperature — this guide says so rather than filling the gap.

Frequently asked questions

How much lavender fragrance oil should I use for a bedroom candle?
CSI Lavender lists 6–10%. For a small, closed room, test 6%, 7.5% and 9% of total candle weight as suggested starting points and pick the lowest load that is noticeable on entry.
Is lavender candle fragrance too strong for small rooms?
It can be at the top of its range. Its page rates it Strong, so test lower loads, a smaller jar and shorter burn sessions, and judge from where your customer will sit or lie.
What size candle is best for a bedroom?
Test a smaller format alongside your standard jar. A 120 g jar with a 6 cm diameter makes a smaller pool than a 7 cm jar, which can give a gentler room at the same oil.
What wick should I use for a 120 g lavender candle?
Start with Eco C1. CSI publishes no wick chart, so burn-test it; if C1 builds a full pool without a tall flame, there is no need for a larger wick.
How do I test candle throw in a bedroom?
Burn one candle per session with the door closed and the fan off. Check from the doorway and from the bed at 30 minutes and two hours, and air the room fully between tests so each candle starts fresh.
What does a 150 g lavender candle cost to make?
At 7.5% in CSI 464 with an Eco C1 wick and the 150 g apothecary jar, materials cost ₹229.44 before packaging, labour, shipping and GST. The 120 g jar at 7% comes to ₹153.59.

Assumptions: Fragrance load is a percentage of total candle weight (200 g = 184 g wax + 16 g oil at 8%); CSI wax pages phrase their ceilings as a share of wax weight. Material cost per candle covers wax, oil, vessel, wick and dye only — it excludes packaging, labels, labour, shipping and GST. CSI publishes no wick sizing chart, burn times or wax survival temperatures, so every wick named is a candidate to test. Retail prices, budgets, margins and packaging costs are the reader's own figures. Test counts and loads are suggested starting points.
