Natural Soy Pearl's per-kilo saving from 5 kg — the largest soy-wax bulk break CSI lists · switch at about 13 candles a month · CSI live pricing, October 2026
Quick answers — read this first
When should I switch to bulk packs? When three things are true: the bigger pack is genuinely cheaper per unit, the material has passed your tests or sold, and you will use the pack within your holding window (2 months on this page).

Which CSI packs are actually cheaper in bulk? Soy Pearl and CSI 468 from 5 kg, CSI 464 from 1 kg, some oils at 500 g or 1 kg (e.g. Honeydew Melon, Citronella, Mango Coconut), Salsa and Mini jars by the 50/100, wooden wicks and liquid dyes.

Which are not? Luxury Soy Wax Chunks (10 kg is dearest per kg), Eco and Cotton wicks, White Matte jars, the Golden tin and most oils above 100 g.

How much does switching save? A few percent of material cost: at 60 candles a month in this example, ₹2,441.46 over two months.
The short answer
Answer: Switch material by material, only where the per-unit price really drops and your volume uses the pack within about 2 months. Soy Pearl's 5 kg pays at about 13 candles a month.
Breaks: Real: Soy Pearl 5.6%, CSI 468 2.0%, CSI 464 500 g→1 kg, Honeydew 22%, Citronella 61.5% at 500 g, Salsa jars 26.5%. Flat: Chunks, Eco/Cotton wicks, White Matte, tins, most oils.
Method: Per-unit price at every pack → proven material? → months of cover → switch the biggest saving per candle first → cash-cost check.

Per-unit price at each listed in-stock pack, as a share of the smallest pack shown. Oil panels start at 50 g, because the 15 g premium is a separate step every oil shares. Soy Pearl, Honeydew Melon and the Salsa jar step down; Lavender barely moves; Chunks and the Eco wick do not. CSI listed prices; larger quantities are quoted on WhatsApp.
Straight answer
At what point should a candle startup move from small CSI packs to wholesale quantities of wax, fragrance oils and wicks?
Material by material, when three things are true: the bigger pack is genuinely cheaper per unit, the material is proven, and you will use the pack within your holding window. On CSI's listed prices real breaks are rare. Wax: Natural Soy Pearl drops 5.6% from 5 kg (₹424.80 against ₹450.00 a kilo) and pays at about 13 candles a month; CSI 468 drops 2.0% from 5 kg; CSI 464's 1 kg is cheaper than its 500 g and flat above; Chunks never get cheaper (the 10 kg is dearest). Oils: the reliable step is 15 g → 50/100 g; only some oils step again at 500 g or 1 kg (Honeydew Melon 22%, Lavender just 3.3%). Wicks: Eco and Cotton are flat at every pack, so there is no price reason to buy 1,000. Switching saves a few percent of material cost — worth having at volume, never worth buying unproven stock for.
One line: switch where the break is real and the pack will be used in time; elsewhere, bigger is only bigger.
The biggest real bulk break in CSI's soy wax is Natural Soy Pearl from 5 kg — ₹424.80 a kilo against ₹450.00 at 1 kg (5.6%). Switch when you will use a 5 kg bag within about 2 months, which for 200 g candles means roughly 13 candles a month. Below that, small packs cost you very little. Natural Soy Pearl Wax: 5 kg for ₹2,124.00.

Where CSI's real price breaks are

"Buy bulk to save money" assumes bulk is cheaper. On most of CSI's listed packs, it is not.

Before choosing when to switch to bigger packs, find out whether switching saves anything. The table lists every CSI material in this series where a larger listed pack is genuinely cheaper per unit, with the saving and the switch point. The switch point is the monthly volume at which you would use the bigger pack within a labelled holding window of 2 months — long enough to be worth it, short enough that stock does not sit.

Read the last two columns together. Soy Pearl's 5.6% saves ₹5.08 a candle and pays once you make about 13 candles a month. Some oils save far more per candle — Honeydew Melon's 500 g saves ₹16.74 a candle, Citronella's ₹82.67 — but only once a single scent sells about 15 candles a month, because 500 g is 29 candles of one scent. CSI 464 is the special case: its 1 kg bag is cheaper per kilo than its 500 g, so the switch point is zero — never buy the 500 g except for a one-off test. Lavender's kilo saves only 3.3%: buy it for stock security if you like, not for price.

No meaningful per-unit break on listed packs · buy the size that matches use
Where bigger packs buy convenience, not a lower rate
Material Per-unit prices What it means
Luxury Soy Wax Chunks ₹598.00 / kg (500 g) · ₹599.00 (1 kg, 5 kg) · ₹599.90 (10 kg) None — the 10 kg bag is the dearest per kg
CSI 464 ₹520.00 / kg (500 g) · ₹507.40 (1, 5, 10 kg) Only 500 g → 1 kg; flat above
Blue Ocean ₹4.94–₹4.96 a gram from 50 g to 1 kg None above 50 g
Love Spell ₹4.49 (100 g) · ₹5.00 (500 g) · ₹4.50 (1 kg) Bigger is not cheaper
Saffron Cedarwood 1 kg ₹5.17 (500 g) · ₹6.87 (1 kg) The 1 kg is dearer per gram than the 500 g
Eco Candle Wicks Thin C1 ₹5.90 · Thick C2 ₹9.44 at every pack None — buy the pack that matches use
Cotton Braided Wicks ₹12.00 at every pack None
White Matte Glass Jar ₹70.80 in 5s and 10s None
Golden Aluminium Tin ₹30.00 — one pack size (12) None
Heart Cutout Velvet Jar ₹45.00 in 1s, 5s and 10s None

Two patterns stand out across the two tables. First, the reliable step in fragrance is at the bottom, not the top: the 15 g bottle carries a median 23.1% per-gram premium over the same oil's 100 g, while from 100 g to 1 kg most oils are priced in a straight line. So the first "bulk" move for any scent you keep is simply leaving 15 g behind. Second, the containers and wicks most makers start with — White Matte jars, the Golden tin, Eco and Cotton wicks — have no break at all, so ordering them in bigger packs is a stock decision, never a price decision. The tier calculations below use Soy Pearl's bags up to 10 kg only; the 50 kg bag is listed at the same per-kilo rate but in limited stock, so confirm it on WhatsApp before planning around it.

The CSI principle
Switch when the break is real and the pack will be used up in time. Otherwise, bigger is only bigger.
Most of CSI's listed range is priced flat per unit. The real steps — Soy Pearl from 5 kg, CSI 468 from 5 kg, some oils at 500 g or 1 kg, Salsa and Mini jars by the 50 or 100, wooden wicks, dyes — are the ones worth planning around.

The three tests for switching any material

A material moves from small packs to bulk only when it passes all three tests below. Failing any one keeps it in small packs, however good the per-unit price looks.

1
Is there a real break?Compute price per unit at each in-stock pack. If the bigger pack is within about 1% of the smaller, there is no price reason to switch. On CSI's listed fragrance catalogue, 52 of 91 oils listing both 100 g and 1 kg are within ±1%; only 24 save 5% or more.
2
Is the material proven?Only materials that have passed your tests — a wick that passed its ladder, a scent that has sold — go to bulk. A bulk pack of an unproven scent is the most common form of dead stock. Client approval before the full fragrance buy makes the same point for orders.
3
Will you use it inside your window?Divide the bulk pack by your consumption per month. If it lasts longer than your holding window (2 months on this page — a labelled assumption; set your own), the saving is paid for in cash tied up and storage risk. CSI's pages state a 60-month shelf life only for CSI 464 and CSI 468; no oil shelf life is published.
4
Then, and only then, switchAnd switch one material at a time, starting with the one with the biggest saving per candle at your volume.
"The 10 kg bag must be cheaper." For Luxury Soy Wax Chunks it is the dearest per kilo of the four listed bags (₹599.90 against ₹598.00–₹599.00); two 5 kg bags are ₹9.00 cheaper. For Saffron Cedarwood the 1 kg bottle is ₹6.87 a gram against ₹5.17 at 500 g. Fix: compute per-unit prices for every pack before every bulk order — never assume. 13 kg against 10 kg packs and 1.3 kg of fragrance in 500 g and 1 kg packs work through two of these choices.

What switching is worth at your volume

The saving is a few rupees a candle. Whether that matters depends on how many candles.

To put the breaks together, here is one standard candle — 200 g White Matte jar (illustrative fill), Soy Pearl, three scents (Honeydew Melon, Mango Coconut, Lavender), Eco Thin C1 — costed two ways at four monthly volumes. "Small packs" buys one month at a time in 1 kg wax bags and oil bottles of 100 g or less. "Bulk where it pays" buys 2 months at a time using the cheapest real combination of every listed pack. Jars and wicks are flat-priced, so they do not move.

Material cost per candle · wax, oil, jar and wick only · 5% re-pour and 4% pour-loss allowances · excludes labour, packaging, freight, GST
Small packs versus bulk where it pays
Candles / month Small packs Bulk where it pays Saving per candle Saving per month Saving %
25 ₹273.63 ₹259.59 ₹14.04 ₹351.00 5.1%
60 ₹265.65 ₹245.20 ₹20.44 ₹1,226.63 7.7%
150 ₹257.60 ₹239.72 ₹17.88 ₹2,681.83 6.9%
300 ₹255.52 ₹236.65 ₹18.87 ₹5,662.13 7.4%

The saving per candle grows with volume because more of the order reaches the steps that matter — 5 kg Soy Pearl bags, 500 g bottles of Honeydew Melon and Mango Coconut. But in percentage terms it never gets large, because the White Matte jar (₹70.80) and Eco wick (₹5.90) are flat-priced and make up a big share of the candle. That is the honest summary: on CSI's listed prices, moving to bulk saves a few percent of material cost. It is worth doing at volume, but it is not what makes a candle business profitable — selling the candles is.

Argued against our own interest, plainly. We would sell more if we told you to buy bulk early. On our own listed prices, most of what a candle uses is flat per unit — Chunks, CSI 464 above 1 kg, Eco and Cotton wicks, White Matte jars, the Golden tin, most oils above 100 g. For those, the right pack is the one you will use before it ages. Buy bulk only where the table above shows a real break and your volume reaches the switch point.

The cash side of bulk

A bulk pack moves money from your bank to your shelf earlier. That is a cost even when the per-unit price is lower. A simple way to see it is cash tied up per rupee saved: Lavender's 1 kg costs ₹5,221.00 against ₹540.00 for 100 g, ties up ₹4,681.00 more cash, and saves ₹3.14 a candle — ₹179.00 across the whole kilo. Honeydew Melon's 500 g ties up ₹1,263.78 more and saves ₹477.90 across the bottle.

Cash tied up versus saving on the whole pack · 'cost of cash' is an EXAMPLE monthly rate you replace with your own
Is the saving bigger than the cost of holding it?
Switch Extra cash tied up Saving on the whole bulk pack Example cost of cash at 1.5% a month for 2 months Net
Natural Soy Pearl ₹1,674.00 ₹126.00 ₹50.22 ₹75.78
Honeydew Melon ₹1,263.78 ₹477.90 ₹37.91 ₹439.99
Citronella ₹708.00 ₹2,360.00 ₹21.24 ₹2,338.76
Lavender ₹4,681.00 ₹179.00 ₹140.43 ₹38.57
Salsa 200 ml jar ₹1,274.40 ₹531.00 ₹38.23 ₹492.77

With the example rate, every real break on the list stays positive — but Lavender's kilo barely does, and only if the whole kilo is used inside the window. Replace the 1.5% with your own figure (a loan rate, or simply what that cash would earn elsewhere); the method is what matters. Reducing the cash locked in raw materials and larger packs or cash for reorders develop this further.

Beyond the listed packs
CSI's container soy wax bags stop at 10 kg (Natural Soy Pearl is listed to 50 kg, in limited stock — confirm before planning around it), and oils at 1 kg per listing. There is no 25 kg carton and no 100 kg pack in the listing; CSI 464's page mentions a 25 kg format, so ask on WhatsApp whether it is available. Larger quantities are quoted on WhatsApp, and no volume discount figure is published — do not plan around a discount you have not been quoted.

Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. This page lists every pack where our bigger size is not cheaper per unit — including our 10 kg Chunks bag — because a startup that buys bulk only where it pays is a startup that keeps buying.

Wax prices are CSI live pricing, re-checked 1 October 2026; oil prices are CSI live pricing, pulled 24 September 2026, stock re-checked 4 October 2026; jar, wick and dye packs are from the CSI listing re-checked 4 October 2026. Per-unit prices, savings, switch points, monthly tiers and the cash check are computed to two decimals.

The 2-month holding window, the 200 g candle at 8%, the 5% re-pour and 4% pour-loss allowances, the three-scent split and the 1.5% monthly cost of cash are labelled examples you should replace with your own. CSI publishes no oil shelf lives and no volume discounts; larger quantities are quoted. For quotes, GST invoicing, MSDS or IFRA documentation, message us on WhatsApp at +91 7397976926.

Non-price figures and assumptions: Load is a share of finished weight (oil = W × L; 200 g at 8% = 16 g oil + 184 g wax). Per-candle consumption includes a 5% re-pour and 4% pour-loss allowance. CSI does not publish fill weights for its glass jars (only the 85 g Golden Aluminium Tin and the 50 g Heart Cutout Velvet Jar have published fills); the 200 g fill is illustrative. The 2-month window and 1.5% monthly cost of cash are labelled examples. What CSI's product pages state (quoted, not CSI test results): Luxury Soy Wax Chunks — maximum fragrance load 13%, cure minimum 48 hours, ideally 1–2 weeks; Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 — fragrance load up to 10%, shelf life 60 months cool and dry; Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 — melting point 50–53°C, pour 58–60°C, fragrance load up to 13%, shelf life 60 months cool and dry; Natural Soy Pearl — no melt point, pour temperature, fragrance ceiling or shelf life published.
