₹131.59
CSI materials in a 150 g soy candle before the vessel · ₹225.99 with a lidded glass jar · CSI live pricing, September 2026
Quick answers — read this first
How do I calculate the cost of a candle? Look up the fill size in the size table, add the vessel from the vessel table. A 150 g soy candle with Jasmine Fragrance Oil at 8% of wax weight, a wick and a sticker is ₹131.59; with a Clear Glass Jar with Golden Lid it is ₹225.99 at September 2026 prices.

What price gives a 65% margin on a candle? Divide the material cost by 0.35. A 180 g ceramic candle costing ₹286.02 in materials prices at ₹817.21 for a 65% margin over materials. That margin still has to pay for your labels, boxes, courier and labour — it is not profit.

I want to sell at ₹699.00 — what can my materials cost? Read the reverse table. At an illustrative ₹699.00 price and a 65% margin over materials, the affordable material cost is ₹244.65. The 150 g lidded-jar build at ₹225.99 fits with ₹18.66 to spare; the 180 g ceramic build at ₹286.02 does not, and is ₹41.37 over the line.

Why are these tables instead of a calculator widget? Because a table works everywhere: on a phone in a market, printed and stuck above the work bench, or read aloud to a supplier on a call. Every figure here is computed from live CSI prices for September 2026 rather than typed in, so there is nothing to break and nothing to mistype.
The short answer
Look up the size: A 70 g candle is ₹65.89 before the vessel, 150 g is ₹131.59, 500 g is ₹427.42 with two wicks.
Add the vessel: ₹97.75 for a 70 g votive, ₹225.99 for a 150 g lidded jar, ₹286.02 for a 180 g ceramic, ₹639.82 for a 500 g apothecary jar.
Then read the price: Divide by 0.35 for an illustrative 65% margin over materials, or use the reverse table to work back from a price you already have in mind.
How the four tables connect How the four tables connect Worked on a 180 g ceramic candle at an illustrative 65% margin over materials Table 2 · fill size 180 g → ₹156.22 Table 3 · add the vessel + ₹129.80 → ₹286.02 Table 5 · price at 65% ₹817.21 Table 6 · start from a price ₹699.00 → ₹244.65 reverse route Then subtract your own costs — labels, boxes, courier, labour, fees. CSI does not sell them, so no table on this page can fill that row. Margins and prices shown are illustrative, not CSI recommendations.
The route through the tables, worked on a 180 g ceramic candle: fill size gives ₹156.22, the vessel takes it to ₹286.02, and an illustrative 65% margin over materials gives ₹817.21. The dashed arrow is the reverse route, from a price you already want down to the material cost it can carry. The bottom band is the part no table on this page can fill.
Straight answer
How do you calculate a candle's cost, margin and selling price?
In four lookups. One: find your fill weight in the size table. The reference build is Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 at ₹507.40 per kg, Jasmine Fragrance Oil at ₹3.92 per gram and 8% of wax weight, an Eco Candle Wick Thin (C1) and a wick sticker — ₹131.59 at 150 g, ₹156.22 at 180 g, ₹427.42 at 500 g with two wicks. Two: add the vessel from the vessel table, which is the line that moves most between builds: ₹225.99 with a Clear Glass Jar with Golden Lid, ₹286.02 with a Ceramic Jar. Three: read the selling price at the margin you want from the margin table — ₹286.02 of materials prices at ₹817.21 for an illustrative 65% margin over materials, or use the reverse table to start from a price and find the material cost it can carry (₹244.65 at an illustrative ₹699.00 and the same margin). Four: subtract your own costs, because a margin over materials is not profit: labels, boxes, courier, labour, electricity, platform fees and breakage are yours, CSI does not sell them, and no table on this page will invent a figure for them. Swap any input using the rate card — moving the 150 g build to Premium Coconut Soy CSI 468 adds ₹19.44, moving the oil to White Royal Oud adds ₹50.16, and dropping to Citrus Lemon saves ₹13.09. Every price and margin used as an example here is illustrative arithmetic, not a CSI recommendation.
One line: Fill size gives the material cost, the vessel completes it, the margin table gives the price — and your own costs still have to come out of it.
The reference build behind every table: Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 at ₹507.40/kg, Jasmine Fragrance Oil at ₹3.92/g and 8% of wax weight, an Eco Candle Wick Thin (C1) at ₹5.90 and a wick sticker at ₹2.50. Swap any line using the rate card below.

How to use these tables

Four lookups, in order. Nothing to install, nothing to type.

This page is a calculator built out of tables rather than a form, because a table survives a weak signal in a market, a printout above a work bench and a phone call with a supplier. Every figure is computed from live CSI prices for September 2026 and from the pack rate named against it, so the arithmetic is already done and there is nothing to mistype.

The reference build is deliberately ordinary: Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 at the 5 kg rate of ₹507.40 per kg, Jasmine Fragrance Oil at ₹3.92 per gram in the 1 kg pack, fragrance at 8% of wax weight, one Eco Candle Wick Thin (C1) at ₹5.90 and one wick sticker at ₹2.50. The wax page states a load of up to 10% of wax weight and the Jasmine page states up to 10% of total wax weight for soy, so 8% sits inside both ceilings; where a wax ceiling and an oil page differ, the lower figure governs.

1
Find your fill weight in Table 2. That gives wax, fragrance, wick and sticker in one figure — ₹131.59 at 150 g. It deliberately stops before the vessel, because the vessel is the line that varies most between two otherwise identical candles.
2
Add your vessel from Table 3, or read Table 4 for a matched pair. A Clear Glass Jar with Golden Lid at ₹94.40 takes the 150 g candle to ₹225.99. Table 4 does the pairing for you on the nine fill sizes that have a CSI vessel with a published fill weight.
3
Read the selling price in Table 5, or work backwards in Table 6. Table 5 goes from a material cost to a price at five illustrative margins over materials. Table 6 goes the other way: pick the price you want on the shelf and read the material cost it can carry. Both are arithmetic, not advice.
4
Subtract your own costs before you believe the answer. The margin in Table 5 is a margin over materials only. Your labels, boxes, courier, labour, electricity, marketplace and gateway fees and breakage all come out of it, and CSI sells none of them. Table 7 is the worksheet where those rows live, blank, for you to fill from your own bills.
PRINT IT AT THE BENCH
The two tables worth sticking on a wall are the rate card and the size table. Between them they answer the question that comes up mid-pour — what does this candle cost me — without a spreadsheet. Mark your own vessel prices on the printout in pen, because the vessel is the one line that changes every time you change a supplier or a colour.

Table 1 — The rate card: what each input costs

Every other table on this page is built from these three lists.

Wax first. Rates are per kilogram at the pack named, and the per-100-g column is the one you multiply by your fill weight. Where a page does not publish a fragrance load, that is stated rather than estimated — ask on WhatsApp before you build a range on a wax whose ceiling you do not know.

Table 1a · wax rates, live CSI prices, September 2026

Then fragrance. The per-gram rate is at the largest published pack; the two working columns are the grams you would use at 8% of wax weight in a 150 g candle (12 g) and in a 500 g candle (40 g). Stated candle ranges are quoted from each product page, and where a wax ceiling and an oil range differ the lower figure governs.

Candle Care Stickers Roll ₹0.83 500 for ₹413.00
Wick Centering Device ₹118.00 Reusable tool, not a per-candle cost
Priced above: every rate is the live price of the named variant divided by its weight or unit count, from CSI stock in September 2026, taxes included. Wax rates use the 5 kg pack where one exists; fragrance rates use the 1 kg pack. Stated fragrance loads and candle ranges are quoted from the product pages; where a page publishes none, this table says so rather than estimating. Figures are rounded to the paisa.

Two swaps are worth memorising because they move a candle between price tiers. On the 150 g reference build, changing the wax to Premium Coconut Soy CSI 468 adds ₹19.44, and changing it to Eco Soy CSI 400 saves ₹16.23, although that page publishes no fragrance load. Changing the oil to White Royal Oud adds ₹50.16 and changing it to Citrus Lemon saves ₹13.09. A Performance Wooden Wick instead of the eco wick adds ₹35.40.

Tables 2 to 4 — Material cost by candle size

The size table is the one you will use most. Everything else hangs off it.

Table 2 prices the reference build at thirteen fill weights, wax to sticker, before the vessel. Fills of 500 g and above assume two wicks and two stickers, which is a general-practice assumption for wide jars rather than a published rule — per-wick sizing tables by diameter are not published, so settle the wick count with test burns on your own jar.

Table 3 is the vessel list: every CSI container whose own page publishes a fill weight, priced per unit at the pack named. This is the line that decides whether two candles of the same weight cost the same, and it is where most costing mistakes live.

Fragrance at 8% of wax weight throughout. Fill weights are the ones each vessel page publishes. Two wicks and two stickers are assumed at 500 g and above. Component figures are rounded to the paisa; totals are calculated from unrounded pack rates. Prices include taxes.

Notice what the vessel does to the shape. It is between a third and a half of the material cost at every size in the table: 47.6% of the 50 g candle, 41.8% of the 150 g one and 33.2% of the 500 g one, even though the apothecary jar is the dearest vessel on the list. If a candle refuses to work at your target price, the vessel and the fill weight are the two levers with real travel in them — the step from the reference wax to Premium Coconut Soy CSI 468 moves the 150 g build by only ₹19.44.

You cost the candle at the fill weight and forget what stays behind. Wax left in the pitcher, a failed pour, an over-filled jar: a 5% allowance on wax and fragrance adds ₹6.16 to the 150 g build. That percentage is an assumption, not measured data — measure your own over a month of pours and use your own number. Whatever you use, apply it to wax and oil only; wicks and jars are counted, not poured.
Buy the reference build: Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 5 kg ₹2,537.00 · Jasmine Fragrance Oil 1 kg ₹3,923.00 · Eco Candle Wicks · Clear Glass Jar with Golden Lid ₹94.40 each at 10 · Candle Care Stickers Roll ₹0.83 a sticker. One hundred 150 g candles is ₹22,598.60 of materials.

Table 5 — Selling price at each margin

Find your material cost on the left. Read across to the margin you want.

The margin used here is a margin over materials: the share of the selling price left after the CSI material cost and nothing else. It is not your gross margin and it is certainly not profit, because your own costs have not been taken out yet. It is a working ratio for deciding whether a price is even worth testing.

The arithmetic is price = material cost ÷ (1 − margin). Rows are round material-cost steps so you can find yours by eye; if your cost falls between two rows, read both and interpolate. All five margin columns are illustrative choices for the table, not levels CSI recommends.

Every figure in this table is illustrative arithmetic, not a CSI price recommendation. The margin is over CSI materials only — your labels, boxes, courier, labour, fees and breakage still have to come out of it.

Worked example: the 180 g ceramic candle at ₹286.02 of materials prices at ₹817.21 for a 65% margin over materials. The 150 g lidded-jar candle at ₹225.99 prices at ₹564.97 at 60% and ₹753.29 at 70%. Whether either of those prices is right for your market is a question about your city, your channel and your brand, none of which a table can answer.

The CSI principle
A margin over materials is a permission slip, not a profit.
At ₹286.02 of materials and an illustrative 65% margin, a candle prices at ₹817.21 and keeps ₹531.19 for everything else. Labels, boxes, courier, fees and your hours all live in that number before any of it is yours.

Table 6 — The reverse table: from a target price back to an affordable cost

Most makers start from the price they wish they could charge. This is the table for them.

Sometimes the price is fixed before the candle is designed: a marketplace price band, a gifting budget of so much per head, a shelf where everything sits under a round number. In that case the useful question is inverted — given this price and this margin, what can the materials cost. Table 6 answers it with material cost = price × (1 − margin).

Each cell is the price multiplied by 0.50, 0.40, 0.35, 0.30 or 0.25. Compare the answer against Table 4 to see which build fits.

Use it against Table 4 and the answers get blunt very quickly. At an illustrative ₹399.00 and a 65% margin over materials the affordable material cost is ₹139.65, which covers the 70 g votive at ₹97.75 comfortably and will not stretch to the 85 g tin at ₹149.01. At an illustrative ₹699.00 and the same margin you have ₹244.65: the 150 g lidded-jar build at ₹225.99 fits with ₹18.66 to spare, while the 180 g ceramic build at ₹286.02 is ₹41.37 over the line and needs either a higher price — ₹314.65 is affordable at an illustrative ₹899.00 — or a thinner margin, since ₹349.50 is affordable at the same ₹699.00 and a 50% margin. The 500 g apothecary build at ₹639.82 clears an illustrative ₹1,999.00 at 65% with ₹59.83 to spare, and does not clear ₹1,299.00, where only ₹454.65 of materials is affordable.

You pick the price first and then shave the fragrance to make it fit. It is the most common way a range goes wrong. Fragrance is the line that a customer actually experiences, and cutting the load from 10% to 6% on a 150 g candle saves ₹23.54 — ₹35.31 against ₹58.85 — which is rarely worth the throw you lose. If the price will not carry the build, change the fill weight or the vessel, which the customer sees once, rather than the scent, which they meet every time they light it.

Table 7 — What a batch costs before you place the order

Per-candle numbers are for pricing. Batch numbers are for your bank balance.

The per-candle figure tells you whether a price works. The batch figure tells you whether you can afford to make it at all, which is a different question and usually the more urgent one. Find your material cost per candle on the left and read across to the run size.

Table 7 · material cost of a production run
Total CSI materials at four run sizes
Material cost per candle 50 candles 100 candles 250 candles 500 candles
₹100.00 ₹5,000.00 ₹10,000.00 ₹25,000.00 ₹50,000.00
₹150.00 ₹7,500.00 ₹15,000.00 ₹37,500.00 ₹75,000.00
₹200.00 ₹10,000.00 ₹20,000.00 ₹50,000.00 ₹1,00,000.00
₹250.00 ₹12,500.00 ₹25,000.00 ₹62,500.00 ₹1,25,000.00
₹300.00 ₹15,000.00 ₹30,000.00 ₹75,000.00 ₹1,50,000.00
₹500.00 ₹25,000.00 ₹50,000.00 ₹1,25,000.00 ₹2,50,000.00
Priced above: per-candle costs of ₹100.00, ₹150.00, ₹200.00, ₹250.00, ₹300.00, ₹500.00 are round lookup steps; each cell is that figure multiplied by the run size. Real orders cost slightly more than the multiplication suggests, because packs come in fixed sizes — 100 candles of 150 g need 15 kg of wax before wastage, and you will buy 15 kg in whole packs. Add your own wastage allowance on top.

Worked: one hundred 150 g candles in lidded glass jars at ₹225.99 each is ₹22,598.60 of CSI materials. That is the cash that leaves before a single candle is sold, and it is the number to hold beside a festive plan. Diwali 2026 falls on 8 November 2026; with a 14–21 day cure and delivery time on top, a festive run wants pouring by about mid-October, which means the materials leave your account in the first half of the month.

Table 8 — The rows this calculator cannot fill

Every honest calculator has blank cells. These are ours.

CSI sells raw materials. It does not sell printed labels, boxes, mailers, ribbon, courier services, electricity or hours, and it publishes no rates for any of them — so none of them has a number anywhere on this page. They are still part of your cost, and the margin you read in Table 5 has to cover all of them before anything is yours.

Your own worksheet · CSI does not sell or price these
Fill each row from your own bills, then subtract from the margin
Line Ask whom Unit Your figure
Printed label and base sticker Your printer per candle ________
Box, sleeve or pouch Your packaging supplier per candle ________
Outer carton, void fill, tape Your packaging supplier per parcel ________
Courier to the customer Your courier per parcel ________
Inbound freight on raw materials Your supplier at checkout per consignment ________
Marketplace or platform commission Your channel % of price ________
Payment gateway charge Your gateway % of price ________
Returns, breakage and rework Your own record % of units ________
Your labour and electricity Your own record per hour ________
Marketing and sampling Your own record per month ________
Your own cost per candle — — ________

Fill that column once and keep it, because it changes far less often than prices do. Then the complete equation is: selling price − CSI materials (Table 4) − your own cost per candle = what the business keeps. If you want a number that means something, that is the one.

A calculator that fills in every box is guessing at half of them.

Five ways these tables will mislead you if you use them raw

1. A margin over materials is not a margin. Table 5 stops at CSI's lines. A candle at an illustrative ₹817.21 with a 65% margin over materials can still lose money once a courier, a marketplace commission and three hours of your evening are counted.

2. Pack sizes do not divide neatly. The tables price the grams you use. You buy packs: 15 kg of wax for a hundred 150 g candles means whole packs, and the surplus sits in your cupboard as working capital until the next run.

3. Fill weight is not jar volume. Every fill weight in Table 3 comes from the vessel's own page. A jar described by volume in millilitres is not a wax weight, and pouring to the brim is not the same as pouring to the published fill. Weigh one candle before you trust a column.

4. The 8% load is a choice, not a law. It sits inside the reference wax's stated ceiling of up to 10% and the reference oil's stated range. Move it and the fragrance column moves with it: 6% is ₹35.31 on a 150 g candle and 10% is ₹58.85. Whatever load you pick, the lower of the wax ceiling and the oil range governs, and the numbers are the manufacturers' stated formulation maximums.

5. Prices move. Every figure here is live CSI pricing for September 2026. Product pages are always authoritative, and for quantities beyond the largest published pack, bulk pricing is a WhatsApp conversation rather than a table. Recheck your rate card at the start of each season rather than trusting a printout from last year.

Used with those five caveats in mind, the tables do the job a calculator is for: they remove arithmetic errors from a decision that is hard enough without them. Look up the size, add the vessel, read the price, subtract your own costs — and if the answer is uncomfortable, it was uncomfortable before you looked it up.

Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles, so these tables price the part of your candle CSI sells and stop there. They say plainly that the margin column is a margin over materials rather than profit, that the vessel — not the wax — is usually the line with the most travel in it, and that swapping the reference wax for the dearest soy grade here changes a 150 g candle by only ₹19.44. Where a product page does not publish a fragrance load, the rate card says so instead of estimating.

Every material price comes from live CSI stock in September 2026, taxes included, and the linked product pages are authoritative if anything changes. Every margin, selling price and material-cost step used in Tables 5, 6 and 7 is an illustrative lookup value, not a CSI price recommendation. The 5% wastage allowance and the two-wick assumption above 500 g are stated assumptions, not measured data. Costs CSI does not sell — labels, boxes, courier, platform and gateway fees, labour, electricity, marketing and breakage — are left blank on purpose. Nothing here is tax, registration or licensing advice; ask your own adviser.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate the selling price of a candle?
Material cost ÷ (1 − margin). A 180 g ceramic candle costing ₹286.02 in CSI materials prices at ₹817.21 at an illustrative 65% margin over materials. Remember that the margin still has to cover your labels, boxes, courier, fees and hours, none of which appear in these tables.
What does a 150 g candle cost to make?
₹131.59 before the vessel and ₹225.99 with a Clear Glass Jar with Golden Lid, using Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464, Jasmine Fragrance Oil at 8% of wax weight, an eco wick and a wick sticker at September 2026 prices.
What margin should I use in the table?
The table offers 50%, 60%, 65%, 70% and 75% purely as illustrative columns. Which one is right depends on how heavy your own costs are: a maker who ships fragile glass across the country through a marketplace needs a far larger margin over materials than one who sells at local markets from a table. Fill in the worksheet first, then choose the column.
Why does the table stop before packaging?
Because CSI does not sell packaging and does not publish rates for it, and a made-up figure in a calculator is worse than a blank one. Cartons, mailers, labels, ribbon and courier are quotes you get locally, and they vary more between two cities than any material on this page does.
Can I use these tables for wax melts or tealights?
The arithmetic is the same — wax, fragrance, container — but the wick line drops out for wax melts and the containers are different, with Wax Melts Containers and Tea Lights Aluminium priced per unit on their own pages. Take the wax and fragrance columns from Table 2 at your fill weight and add the container instead of a jar.
How often should I redo these numbers?
At the start of each season and before any large order. Prices and availability change, the linked product pages are always authoritative, and the one thing worse than no calculator is a calculator running on last year's rate card.
Look it up, then buy it
The arithmetic is done. The decision is still yours.

About this guide: Written by the CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA team. The method — build a rate card from the packs you actually reorder, price the fill weights you actually pour, add the vessel separately because it varies most, then move between cost and price with a single ratio — applies to any candle maker, with any supplier, in any market.

Customer reviews: The six reviews at the top of this page are genuine, published Judge.me reviews left by CSI customers on their product pages. Figures verified September 2026 (CSI live pricing). Reference build (live CSI prices, September 2026, taxes included): Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 5 kg ₹2,537.00 (₹507.40/kg); Jasmine Fragrance Oil 1 kg ₹3,923.00 (₹3.92/g) at 8% of wax weight; Eco Candle Wicks Thin (C1) ₹5.90 each at the 100 pack; Candle Wick Stickers ₹2.50 each at 40; Candle Care Stickers Roll ₹0.83 each at 500. Table 1 rates are each variant's live price divided by its weight or unit count, wax at the 5 kg pack where one exists and fragrance at the 1 kg pack; stated fragrance loads and candle ranges are quoted from the product pages, and where a page publishes none the table says so. Table 3 fill weights are the figures each vessel page publishes. Assumptions: fragrance at 8% of wax weight throughout (the CSI 464 page states up to 10% and the Jasmine page states up to 10% of total wax weight for soy — the lower figure governs); two wicks and two stickers at fills of 500 g and above, a general-practice assumption rather than a published rule, since per-wick sizing tables by diameter are not published; a 5% wastage allowance on wax and fragrance where mentioned, a stated assumption and not measured data; component figures rounded to the paisa and totals calculated from unrounded pack rates. Illustrative only, and not CSI price recommendations: the margins of 50%, 60%, 65%, 70% and 75% over materials, the material-cost steps in Tables 5 and 7, the selling prices in Table 6, and every price derived from them, including ₹817.21 for a 180 g ceramic candle and ₹244.65 of affordable materials at a ₹699.00 price. Costs CSI does not sell — labels, boxes, mailers, ribbon, courier in both directions, marketplace and gateway fees, labour, electricity, marketing and breakage — are left blank on purpose. Diwali 2026 is 8 November 2026; with a 14–21 day cure, festive stock should be poured by about mid-October. Prices and availability change — the linked product pages are always authoritative.
