Wax: every price, per kilogram, at every pack size

Most Indian supplier pages quote wax as "₹550 per kg onwards" and leave you to discover the rest at checkout. That is not a price, it is a hook. Below is the complete wax grid: fifteen products, every pack size CSI stocks, the listed rupee figure and the per-kilogram rate that figure works out to. Read the last column first — it is the only one that lets you compare anything.

Two figures in that table are worth stopping on. Natural Soy Pearl Wax also ships in a 50 kg sack at ₹21,240, which is the same ₹424.80 per kilogram as the 5 kg and 10 kg packs — the discount is applied once, at 5 kg, and then it stops. And Vybar, which is an additive rather than a wax, is ₹156 for 50 g and ₹312 for 100 g: ₹3,120 per kilogram either way, and you use it in grams, not kilos, so the pack size is a non-question.

Why per-kilogram pricing is flat on most CSI waxes

This is the part most supplier blogs will not write, because the whole point of a bulk page is to make you feel that a bigger order is a cleverer order. On CSI wax, usually it is not. Look at what actually happens to the per-kilogram rate as the bag gets bigger.

The honest summary: on six of the seven waxes above, buying in volume buys you convenience, not discount. The 10 kg bag gets you one delivery charge instead of four, one lot number instead of four, and no risk of running dry in late October. Those are worth having — often worth more than 3% off — but they are not a discount, and a costing sheet should not assume one.

Fragrance oils: ₹ per gram from 15 g to 1 kg

Fragrance is where costing sheets go wrong, because the sticker price of a 15 g bottle looks trivial and the per-gram rate behind it does not. There are 92 oils in the CSI fragrance collection. Here is the whole range expressed as a price band per size, so you can see what any oil can cost before you pick one.

The floor is Citrus Lemon, cheapest at every size above 15 g — ₹170 / 50 g, ₹300 / 100 g, ₹1,420 / 500 g, ₹2,832 / kg, giving ₹2.83 per gram; the cheapest 15 g bottle is Eucalyptus Spearmint at ₹68.44. The ceiling is Club De Nuit Intense inspired at ₹24,056 per kilogram — ₹24.06 per gram, 8.5 times the cheapest oil on the same shelf. Two otherwise identical candles can differ by about ₹425 of fragrance at a 20 g load, purely on which bottle you reached for.

Wicks, jars, dyes and tools: the per-unit grid

Wax and fragrance get all the attention because they are the largest line items. The rest of the bill of materials is where margin quietly disappears, because a ₹107 jar and a ₹29.50 jar look identical in a spreadsheet cell labelled "container".

The line that matters most there is the first one. Eco Candle Wicks Thin (C1) cost ₹5.90 per wick whether you buy ten or a thousand. There is no reason to hold 1,000 wicks unless you will burn through them, and no penalty for buying 50 while you are still testing diameters. That is a genuinely unusual structure in Indian candle supply, and it is the reason this page keeps saying the same thing: buy the quantity you will use. That review is here deliberately. ₹5.90 a wick is not the cheapest wick in India and we have never claimed it is. What it is, is a published price that does not move with order size, from stock that ships nationwide, on an invoice you can file. Whether that beats an unnamed wick from a local market is your call to make — with the numbers in front of you.

Seen as a grid, the container range is a 16.7× spread from ₹21.24 to ₹354 per unit, and that single decision moves your material cost more than the choice between any two waxes. The 200 ml Salsa jar in golden lid is the clearest value case in the 80-product container collection: ₹29.50 a unit with a lug cap included, for a 200 ml vessel. Note that the coloured Salsa jars are ₹62.00 at every pack size — no break at all — so the colour choice more than doubles the container line.

Colour is the one category where volume buying genuinely pays: liquid dye falls from ₹15.73 per gram at 15 g to ₹9.00 at 100 g, a 43% reduction, and dye is used at fractions of a gram per candle so a 100 g bottle lasts a long time. Note one oddity in the premium mica ladder — the 50 g pot at ₹10.60/g is better value than the 100 g pot at ₹11.20/g. Buy two fifties.

What one candle actually costs in materials

All four assume a 10% fragrance load except the votive, which is costed at 8%, and all four include the wick sticker and the care label that most costing sheets forget. Wax and fragrance are priced at their best per-kilogram tier, because that is what a working brand buys. Prices are CSI live pricing, September 2026, before tax and delivery.

Read those four side by side and the useful pattern is not "bigger costs more". It is that the 200 g candle costs ₹1.07 per gram of finished product while the 150 g costs ₹1.67 — 56% more per gram for a smaller candle. Nothing about the wax explains that. It is the container: ₹94.40 against ₹29.50, and a fragrance at ₹5.03/g against one at ₹3.07/g. On a jar candle, wax is rarely the line worth optimising. The container is 37.6% of the 150 g build and 13.8% of the 200 g one, and the fragrance sits between 19% and 32% across all four. If you want to take ₹40 out of a candle, change the jar or change the oil — do not switch to a cheaper wax and hope nobody notices the finish.

How to compare Indian supplier quotes without being fooled

Now take these numbers and use them against us as well as for us. Most price comparisons in Indian candle supply are won by whoever presents their number in the most flattering unit. Four checks make a quote comparable.

Freight is a real cost and it is the line where CSI is least competitive on small orders. Ordering 1 kg of wax and five jars, the delivery charge is a meaningful share of the bill and a local supplier you can collect from may genuinely beat us.
