Quick answers — read this first
What is the correct order for adding fragrance oil to wax? Melt fully, add any additive, add dye at full melt, then fragrance at 80–90°C, stir 2 full minutes, pour inside the grade's stated band, then cure. The Luxury Soy Wax Chunks page sets that sequence; the Vybar page puts the additive in before fragrance and colour.

What fragrance load can I use in each CSI wax? Luxury Soy Wax Chunks and CSI 468 state up to 13% of total wax weight; CSI 464 states up to 10%. Four grades publish no ceiling — ask on WhatsApp rather than assume one.

Does the fragrance oil page or the wax page decide the load? Whichever prints the lower figure. An oil that states 6–10% for soy holds a 13%-capable wax down to 10%; a wax that states 10% holds a 10–15% melt oil down to 10%. The lower published figure governs, every time.

The short answer
Order first: melt → additive → dye at full melt → fragrance at 80–90°C → stir 2 minutes → pour in band → cure. Change the order and you buy a fault.
Then the lower ceiling: wax page and oil page both publish a limit; use the smaller. 13% is the highest any CSI wax states, 10% the figure on CSI 464.
Then read the wax, not the pot: a ₹354.00 pen thermometer in the middle of the melt is the cheapest quality control in candle making.

The incorporation sequence with the figure each CSI wax page publishes at that step and the fault that follows when the step slips. Deliberately left out: why 80–90°C is the band and how long to stir at volume, which have their own pages, and any figure a product page does not print.
Straight answer
What is the complete, correct way to incorporate fragrance oil into candle wax?
Six steps, in this order, with the figures your wax page publishes. Melt to a clear liquid — the Luxury Soy Wax Chunks page gives approximately 80–85°C. Add any additive next: the Vybar page asks for 0.5–2% of wax weight, 0.5–1% for soy, into melted wax before fragrance and colour. Colour at full melt, before the oil. Add the fragrance at 80–90°CEco Soy CSI 400 specifies 85°C within that band — weighed in grams as a percentage of wax weight, and never above the lower of the two published ceilings that apply: the wax page's maximum (13% for Chunks and CSI 468, 10% for CSI 464) and your oil page's stated range. Stir 2 full minutes, slowly. Pour inside the grade's band — 75–80°C for Chunks, 58–60°C for CSI 468 — then cure at least 48 hours and ideally 1–2 weeks before you judge anything. Four of CSI's eight in-stock soy grades publish no ceiling and no temperatures at all; for those, the honest answer is to ask on WhatsApp and hold to your oil page's range in the meantime. Incorporation is not mixing — and the difference costs money

Stirring is what your hand does. Incorporation is what the wax does afterwards.

When fragrance oil goes into molten wax at the right temperature and is stirred properly, it dissolves: the oil and the wax become one liquid that stays one liquid as it sets, holding the fragrance distributed through the block. When it goes in too cold, or is under-stirred, or is dosed above what the wax will hold, you get suspension instead — oil sitting in the wax rather than dissolved in it, ready to come back out as beads on the surface, a greasy film against the glass, or a candle whose top half smells different from its bottom half.

That distinction explains why four variables and only four variables control this stage: temperature (is the wax capable of taking the oil into solution), dose (is the amount inside what the wax will hold), energy (has the whole melt been turned over), and time (has the solution been given long enough to settle before you judge it). Everything else at the bench is either a consequence of those four or is about the wick, the jar or the burn.

The good news for a small Indian maker is that all four are free to get right. A ₹354.00 thermometer, a set of scales you already own, two minutes on a clock and a fortnight of patience cost nothing per candle. The bad news is that none of them can be fixed afterwards — once a candle has set with the oil badly incorporated, remelting it drives off some of the fragrance you paid for, so the fix is never as good as doing it correctly the first time.

One framing worth holding on to for the rest of this page: the wax's stated maximum is a property of the wax, not of your ambition. It is the wax manufacturer's stated formulation limit for how much oil that wax structure will carry. It does not rise because you are using a stronger oil, a bigger jar, a wooden wick or a hotter climate, and it does not rise because your oil's page prints a higher figure for a different product format.

Read the right-hand half of that card honestly and the picture is clear: four of the eight grades publish a full working method and a ceiling, and four publish neither. That is not a reason to avoid the four. Soy Pillar Wax is the grade CSI describes as releasing from moulds and it has five reviews on its page; Soy Butter Wax is built for whipped and dessert work that no flakes wax will do. It is a reason to ask CSI for the numbers before you set a recipe on them, and to hold your load to whatever your oil page states in the meantime. A supplier who invents a ceiling for you is worse than one who tells you to send a message.

CSI stocks non-soy waxes too, and for incorporation purposes the situation there is simpler and thinner still.

Two published ceilings, and the one that governs

You are never reading one number. You are always reading two, and using the smaller.

Every recipe sits under two published limits. The wax page states how much oil that wax will hold. The oil page states the range that composition is meant to be used at, usually broken down by wax type — Sandalwood prints up to 10% for soy and up to 6% for paraffin, Jasmine the same, Eucalyptus Spearmint the same again. The rule is short: the lower figure governs, and it is not always the same page.

Worked both ways. Put Sandalwood into Luxury Soy Wax Chunks and the wax allows 13% while the oil page states up to 10% for soy — the oil governs, and you pour 10%. Put an oil whose page prints 6–13% into CSI 464 and the oil allows 13% while the wax states 10% — the wax governs, and you pour 10%. Put a 10–15% wax-melt figure against any CSI wax and the wax governs again, because 13% is the highest figure any CSI wax page states.

Averaging the two published limits, or taking whichever one you prefer. Somebody, somewhere, will tell you that a 13% wax and a 10% oil "means you can do 11 or 12". They do not average. Each figure is a separate statement by a separate manufacturer about a separate property — how much the wax holds, and how much of that composition belongs in a candle. Exceeding either is exceeding a stated maximum. Use the smaller number and, if the result is not strong enough, change the oil rather than the percentage.

Where the oil page prints nothing, you are down to one figure and the wax's ceiling is your only published guide — that is fine, and it is the majority case: of CSI's 92 fragrance oils, 72 print a candle usage range and 20 do not. Where the wax page prints nothing, as with Soy Pillar Wax and three others on the bench card, you are down to the oil's range. Where neither prints anything, you have no published figure at all, and the only honest moves are to ask on WhatsApp or to choose a different pairing.

Where in the 80–90°C window to add

Flash point is a transport, storage and handling property, not a ranking of throw and not the temperature at which oil "burns off" in wax — that subject has its own page and is not repeated here. It has exactly one bearing on incorporation: sixteen of CSI's oil pages print a numeric flash point, and three of those sit inside or just above the add window. Neroli states 85°C, Palo Santo 93°C and Gardenia Tuberose 98°C. For those, add at the bottom of the window — around 80°C — rather than the top, and keep the bottle closed and away from heat on the bench. For the rest, which sit between 132°C and 206°C on the pages that print them, the whole 80–90°C band is well below the number and there is nothing to manage.

TIP — FOUR NUMBERS ON THE JAR BASE
Before the wax goes in, write four things on a strip of masking tape under every jar: wax grade, load as a percentage, the temperature you added the oil at, and the date. It takes ten seconds and it turns every batch you pour into evidence. Six weeks later, when one candle throws beautifully and another does not, you will know exactly which four decisions produced each — which is the entire content of a batch record, at a cost of nothing.
Working to a festival deadline? Diwali 2026 falls on 8 November 2026, so a run poured by about mid-October gets a 14–21 day cure plus courier time. One 200 g candle in CSI 464 at 8% with Jasmine and an Eco Candle Wick Thin (C1) is ₹170.15 in materials before the jar; fifty of them are ₹8,507.40. In Eco Soy CSI 400 the same candle is ₹148.47.

The same six steps in five formats

The order never changes. What changes is the vessel, the ceiling you are working under, and how fast you have to move.

Incorporation is format-agnostic in its logic and format-specific in its practicalities. Below, the five formats an Indian maker is most likely to pour, with what actually changes about getting the oil in.

One line on blends, because it comes up constantly. If you mix two waxes — soy with coconut wax, soy with beeswax, anything with microcrystalline — you are not entitled to the higher of the two ceilings, and you cannot calculate a weighted average from published data because most of those pages publish no ceiling to average. Run the blend to the lowest published figure among its components, treat it as a new formula that needs its own test burn, and remember that adding microcrystalline to a recipe you have already load-tested invalidates that test.

Adding the fragrance oil to the pouring pitcher instead of the melt. It feels efficient — one melt, three pitchers, three different scents. What actually happens is that the wax in the pitcher is already cooling and falling out of the add window, the vessel is too small and the wrong shape to fold properly, and the two minutes of stirring turn into thirty seconds because the wax is visibly setting. If you want several scents from one melt, split into pitchers, bring each back to the add temperature with the heat source, and dose and stir each one properly — or accept that you are running three small batches, which is the honest description of what you are doing anyway.

The bench routine, once per batch

A hot air gun will smooth a rough top, though CSI's is down to a single unit at present, so a warm spoon is the usual answer.

Two practical additions for Indian workrooms. First, a room at 34°C with the fan on is a worse curing environment than a cupboard at 30°C with the door shut — moving air pulls fragrance out of the surface of a setting candle, and a monsoon month in Mumbai or Kochi will not hurt the wax but will ruin any paper label left touching it. Second, clean down properly between fragrances: an Isopropyl Alcohol Spray at ₹383.00 for 150 ml takes a residue of yesterday's gourmand off a pitcher that would otherwise turn today's citrus into something neither you nor the customer ordered.

Judging incorporation by how the workroom smells. A melt that fills the house at the pour stage is not evidence of a well-made candle; it is evidence of fragrance leaving the wax. The only honest tests are a cold sniff at 14 days and a burn at 14 days, in a closed room, against a candle you already trust. Everything before that — the smell at pour, the smell at day one, the smell of the hot melt — tells you nothing about what the customer will get.
The CSI principle
Incorporation is dissolving a weighed dose into a wax with a published limit — not stirring until it looks mixed.
The dose is grams of oil per gram of wax. The limit is 13% at the highest on any CSI wax page. The stir is two minutes on a clock, not by feel.

What is not published — and exactly what to ask for

The most useful thing a supplier page can do is tell you which numbers it does not have.

This guide has said "not published" a lot, deliberately. Estimating a manufacturer's formulation limit on your behalf would be the single most damaging thing a supplier guide could do, because the estimate would be repeated, poured, and eventually sold. Here is the complete list of the gaps that affect incorporation, and the message that fills each one.

Two service facts worth knowing before you send that message. CSI issues GST invoices, which matters if you are claiming input credit on a production run, and MSDS and IFRA documentation is available on request for the oils — which is the paperwork a corporate or wedding buyer will eventually ask you for, long before they ask what temperature you poured at. Bulk pricing for wax, oil and wicks is quoted on WhatsApp rather than published.

And one honest limitation of this page. Everything above is the published record plus general candle-making practice, assembled in the order you will need it. It cannot tell you what your particular oil does in your particular wax in your particular jar in your particular climate — nobody can, from a page. It can only make sure that when you run that test, the four variables you are not testing are all correct, so the result means something.

What temperature should fragrance oil be added to soy wax?
Inside 80–90°C on the CSI soy pages that print a figure: Luxury Soy Wax Chunks says add at 80–90°C, Eco Soy CSI 400 says 85°C within 80–90°C, and the CSI 464 page gives 80–90°C as its working range for melting and pouring. For Neroli (85°C), Palo Santo (93°C) and Gardenia Tuberose (98°C), work at the bottom of the band.
Do I add fragrance oil before or after the dye?
After. The Luxury Soy Wax Chunks page asks for dye at full melt and fragrance at 80–90°C, so colour goes in first. If you use Vybar, its page puts the additive in before both, at 0.5–1% of wax weight for soy.
How do I know the maximum fragrance load for my wax?
