Cost to Make a 150 g Candle in India
Aktie
What is the biggest cost in a 150 g candle? The vessel. At ₹94.40 the jar is 44.9% of the materials bill, ahead of wax at 36.2% and oil at 16.2%. Changing wax grade moves at most ₹37.65; changing jar moves ₹12.60 between CSI's two 150 g jars.
Does CSI sell a jar made for a 150 g fill? Yes — two. The Clear Glass Jar with Golden Lid (₹944.00 for 10) and the Black Glass Jar with Black Lid (₹1,070.00 for 10) both publish a 150 g fill capacity and stand 8 cm tall. The Ceramic Jar at ₹129.80 states 180 g.
How much fragrance oil goes into a 150 g candle? At 8% of wax weight, 12 g — ₹33.98 as Citrus Lemon, ₹91.75 as Dark Vanilla on 1 kg pricing. The ceiling is the lower of the wax page's maximum and the oil page's stated candle range.
What a 150 g candle is actually made of
Start with the number in the name. In this series 150 g means 150 g of wax in the vessel, not the weight of the finished candle and not the weight of the parcel. At the series convention of 8% fragrance load as a percentage of wax weight — the way CSI product pages state loads and ceilings — 150 g of wax takes 12 g of oil, so 162 g of liquid goes into the jar. Add the glass and the lid and the piece a courier picks up weighs far more again.
That distinction decides your costing. Wax is bought by the kilo and consumed by the gram: Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 at ₹507.40 for 1 kg works out at ₹76.11 for a 150 g fill. Fragrance is bought by the gram and dosed against the wax, not against the finished candle: 12 g of Citrus Lemon Fragrance Oil at 1 kg pricing is ₹33.98. The wick is one unit. The jar is one unit, bought in a pack. Four lines, four different units — which is exactly where hand-waved costings go wrong.
One 150 g candle in CSI materials, at the standard build used through this page, is ₹210.39: ₹76.11 of wax, ₹33.98 of oil, ₹5.90 of wick and ₹94.40 of glass. The share that surprises people is the last one — the jar is 44.9% of the bill, more than the wax at 36.2%, with oil at 16.2% and the wick at 2.8%.
| Line | Quantity | Priced from | Per candle | Share |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Soy wax | 150 g fill | Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 1 kg ₹507.40 | ₹76.11 | 36.2% |
| Fragrance oil | 12 g at 8% of wax weight | Citrus Lemon 1 kg, ₹2.83/g | ₹33.98 | 16.2% |
| Wick | 1 pre-tabbed wick | Eco Candle Wicks Thin (C1), ₹5.90 each at 100 | ₹5.90 | 2.8% |
| Vessel | 150 g fill capacity (page) | Clear Glass Jar with Golden Lid, ₹944.00 per 10 | ₹94.40 | 44.9% |
| CSI materials | 162 g poured | Four live product pages | ₹210.39 | 100% |
| Packaging, label, courier, labour | your figure | Not sold by CSI — not invented here | — | — |
Two honest caveats before the tables. First, the jar page states a fill capacity of 150 g, and a stated capacity is a design figure, not a promise about your wax and your headspace — weigh your own first pour. Second, every rupee here is a materials cost from CSI's live catalogue. It is not the cost of your candle, because your candle also carries packaging, a label, a courier bill and your time, and CSI sells none of those. Those lines are left blank on purpose all the way down this page.
The vessels CSI actually sells at 150 g
Plenty of candle sizes have no matching jar. 150 g is not one of them. Two CSI jars publish a 150 g fill capacity on their pages, both apothecary-style, both 8 cm tall with a metal lid: the Clear Glass Jar with Golden Lid at ₹944.00 for 10 (₹94.40 each) and the Black Glass Jar with Black Lid at ₹1,070.00 for 10 (₹107.00 each). The clear jar's page also states it is hot-pour safe to 85°C, which matters if you pour Luxury Soy Wax Chunks at the 75–80°C its page gives rather than hotter.
The gap between them is ₹12.60 a candle — ₹630.00 across a batch of 50. That is a brand decision, not a cost decision: black glass hides wax colour and frosting, clear glass shows off a dye or a mica sheen and shows off every flaw. Pick one and stop paying for the choice twice.
| Vessel | Published capacity | Pack | Per unit | Reads as |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Clear Glass Jar with Golden Lid | 150 g fill capacity; 8 cm tall; hot-pour safe to 85°C | 10 for ₹944.00 | ₹94.40 | Apothecary, gifting, shows the wax |
| Black Glass Jar with Black Lid | Fill capacity about 150 g; 8 cm tall, 7 cm rim | 10 for ₹1,070.00 | ₹107.00 | Apothecary, hides wax colour |
| Ceramic Jar | Fill weight 180 g (page) | Single unit | ₹129.80 | Reusable, heavier, premium feel |
| White Matte Glass Jar | Fill weight 200 ml (page); 8 cm tall, 7 cm wide | 5 for ₹354.00 | ₹70.80 | Cheapest glass, but a bigger fill |
| 200ml Salsa Glass Jar | 200 ml capacity (page), 63 mm lug cap | 50 for ₹1,475.00 | ₹29.50 | Lowest cost per vessel at volume |
| White Matte Votive Jar | 70 g fill capacity (page) | 10 for ₹318.60 | ₹31.86 | Tester or add-on, not a 150 g candle |
| Tin Containers | 85 g and 135 g variants | 12 for ₹1,161.12 (135 g) | ₹96.76 | Travel tin, courier-friendly |
Two things that table will not tell you. Capacity is published as a weight on some pages and a volume on others: 150 g and 180 g are weights, 200 ml is a volume, and soy wax is lighter than water, so a 200 ml jar does not take 200 g of soy. Wherever a page gives millilitres, weigh your own fill before you cost it. And a cheaper vessel changes your candle, not just your bill — a ₹70.80 matte jar with a wider mouth wants a different wick from a ₹94.40 apothecary jar, so a jar swap always costs one more test burn.
Wax and oil: the two lines you can move
At a 150 g fill, every ₹100.00 a kilo on the wax price is ₹15.00 a candle. That is the whole arithmetic of wax choice at this size, and it is smaller than makers expect: the spread from Eco Soy CSI 400 at ₹399.00/kg to Premium Coconut Soy CSI 468 at ₹650.00/kg is ₹37.65 a candle, or ₹1,882.50 across 50. The wax is rarely where a 150 g candle is won or lost on cost.
| Wax | 1 kg price | 150 g fill | Stated fragrance load | Note from the page |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Eco Soy CSI 400 | ₹399.00 | ₹59.85 | Not published — ask on WhatsApp | Produced in India; no additives needed; often a one-pour |
| Natural Soy Pearl Wax | ₹450.00 | ₹67.50 | Not published — ask on WhatsApp | Pearlised soy; sold up to 50 kg |
| Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 | ₹507.40 | ₹76.11 | Up to 10% | Single-pour container wax; 60-month shelf life |
| Luxury Soy Wax Chunks | ₹599.00 | ₹89.85 | Up to 13% | Cure 48 hours minimum, ideally 1–2 weeks |
| Premium Coconut Soy CSI 468 | ₹650.00 | ₹97.50 | Up to 13% | Melting point 50–53°C; pour at 58–60°C |
| Premium Coconut Soy Wax | ₹920.00 | ₹138.00 | Not published — ask on WhatsApp | Non-GMO soy and virgin coconut oil blend; 500 g and 1 kg |
Fragrance is the opposite: the same 12 g costs ₹33.98 as Citrus Lemon and ₹91.75 as Dark Vanilla, a gap of ₹57.77 — more than twice the whole wax spread. A scent list is a cost decision before it is a marketing one, and it is the line most likely to wreck a price you set last season.
| Fragrance oil | Per gram (1 kg) | 6% · 9 g | 8% · 12 g | 10% · 15 g |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Citrus Lemon | ₹2.83 | ₹25.49 | ₹33.98 | ₹42.48 |
| British Rose | ₹3.07 | ₹27.61 | ₹36.82 | ₹46.02 |
| Apple Cinnamon | ₹4.74 | ₹42.69 | ₹56.92 | ₹71.15 |
| Lavender | ₹5.22 | ₹46.99 | ₹62.65 | ₹78.32 |
| Dark Vanilla | ₹7.65 | ₹68.81 | ₹91.75 | ₹114.69 |
Two limits govern that load, and the lower one wins. The wax page states a maximum — CSI 464 up to 10%, Luxury Soy Wax Chunks and CSI 468 up to 13% — and the oil page states its own candle range, commonly 6–10% of total wax weight on CSI oil pages. Citrus Lemon's page gives soy at 6–10%, so 10% is your ceiling in CSI 464 either way. These are the wax and fragrance manufacturers' stated formulation maximums, not rules imposed from outside, and a stronger candle is usually a wick and cure question, not a load question.
Three honest builds: value, standard, premium
Here is what the same candle costs at three sensible specifications. Nothing here is padded: every line is a live CSI price and each build is one a working Indian maker would actually pour. The spread from value to premium is ₹380.13 a candle.
| Line | Value — ₹194.13 | Standard — ₹210.39 | Premium — ₹305.69 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wax, 150 g | Eco Soy CSI 400 ₹59.85 | CSI 464 ₹76.11 | CSI 468 ₹97.50 |
| Oil, 12 g at 8% | Citrus Lemon ₹33.98 | Citrus Lemon ₹33.98 | Dark Vanilla ₹91.75 |
| Wick | Eco C1 ₹5.90 | Eco C1 ₹5.90 | Eco C2 ₹9.44 |
| Vessel | Clear 150 g jar ₹94.40 | Clear 150 g jar ₹94.40 | Black 150 g jar ₹107.00 |
| CSI materials | ₹194.13 | ₹210.39 | ₹305.69 |
| Packaging, label, courier, labour | your figure | your figure | your figure |
Read the middle column as the page's working number. The value build saves ₹284.83 against it, almost all of it on wax whose fragrance ceiling is not published — which is fine if you have tested your load and have it in writing from WhatsApp, and reckless if you are guessing. The premium build spends ₹363.87 more, and ₹57.77 of that is the oil alone.
Finishing items are small and real. A wick sticker is ₹2.50 on the 40-sticker sheet and a candle care sticker is ₹0.83 on the roll of 500 — together ₹3.33, taking the standard build to ₹213.72. Colour is optional: Candle Dye Liquid starts at ₹236.00 for 15 ml and White Mica at ₹57.82 for 10 gm, both used in fractions of a gram per candle, which is why this page does not pretend to a per-candle dye figure — measure your own dosing and add it as your own line.
What a batch of 50 actually costs to buy
Fifty 150 g candles consume ₹10,519.70 of CSI materials at the standard build. You cannot buy exactly that, because wax comes in 500 g, 1 kg, 5 kg and 10 kg packs, oil in 15 g to 1 kg packs, wicks in 10 to 1000 and jars in 10 and 20. Rounded up to real packs — and with a stated 5% allowance for wax left in the pitcher and jars that arrive or leave broken — the purchase order looks like this.
| Item | Needed | Packs bought | Spend | Left over |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 | 7.5 kg, 7.875 kg with 5% allowance | 5 kg + 3 × 1 kg = 8 kg | ₹4,059.20 | 125 g |
| Citrus Lemon Fragrance Oil | 600 g, 630 g with allowance | 500 gm + 100 gm + 50 gm = 650 g | ₹1,890.00 | 20 g |
| Eco Candle Wicks Thin (C1) | 50 | 1 × 50 pack | ₹295.00 | 0 |
| Clear Glass Jar 150 gram | 50, 53 with 5% spares | 6 × pack of 10 = 60 | ₹5,664.00 | 10 jars |
| Order total | ₹11,908.20 | |||
| Outer cartons, mailers, labels, courier, labour | your figure | Not sold by CSI | — |
So the batch consumes ₹10,519.70 but the order is ₹11,908.20 — ₹238.16 a candle of cash out against ₹210.39 of cost in. The difference is not waste: ₹1,149.03 of it is wax, oil and glass sitting on your shelf for the next batch. Judge a month on what you consumed; judge your bank balance on what you ordered.
One pack decision is worth checking every time. The 650 g of Citrus Lemon above, bought as 500 gm plus 100 gm plus 50 gm, is ₹1,890.00; the 1 kg pack is ₹2,832.00 for 350 g more oil. If you will pour that scent again within its shelf life, the kilo is the better buy per gram; if you are testing a scent for a festive drop and may never repeat it, ₹942.00 stays in your account. Neither answer is always right, which is why it belongs in a worksheet rather than a rule.
CSI's printed wax rates barely move with pack size — CSI 464 is ₹507.40 for 1 kg, ₹2,537.00 for 5 kg and ₹5,074.00 for 10 kg, all within a rupee a kilo of each other, with only the 500 g pack (₹260.00, ₹520.00 a kilo) costing more. Buying bigger buys you fewer parcels and fewer part-packs, not a cheaper kilo. Rates below the printed ones are quoted for bulk orders on WhatsApp, and this page does not guess what you will be quoted.
The costs this page will not invent
CSI is a raw-material supplier: wax, fragrance, wicks, vessels, dyes, tools. It does not sell mailers, cartons, bubble wrap, labels, ribbon, shrink wrap, courier services, electricity or your hours. So there is no live price to quote for them, and a made-up figure would be worse than a blank — you would price a candle on somebody else's assumptions about somebody else's city. Fill these in from your own last three invoices.
| Line | Where your number comes from | Per candle |
|---|---|---|
| Outer carton or mailer | Your packaging supplier's invoice ÷ units | your figure |
| Bubble wrap, void fill, tape | Roll price ÷ candles wrapped | your figure |
| Label, tag, ribbon, gift box | Printer's invoice ÷ units | your figure |
| Courier or delivery | Your courier's rate card for the weight and route | your figure |
| Your time | Hours per batch × the rate you have decided on | your figure |
| Electricity, gas, rent | Monthly bill ÷ candles made that month | your figure |
| Payment gateway or marketplace fee | Your gateway or marketplace statement | your figure |
| Breakage and returns | Your own last-quarter rate | your figure |
| Your own costs | Sum of the above | your figure |
| Total per candle | ₹210.39 CSI materials + your own costs | your figure |
Two practical notes that are safe to state. CSI store prices are inclusive of tax, as the Luxury Soy Wax Chunks page states, and GST invoicing is available — how that flows through your own returns is a question for your accountant, not for a blog. And two customers have said in public reviews that they found delivery charges high; freight is a real line in an Indian materials bill and it is yours to measure, route by route, not ours to average.
Five costing mistakes that quietly break a 150 g price
1 · Costing the jar's capacity instead of your fill
If your fill line is 140 g rather than 150 g, you are paying ₹5.07 less on wax and ₹2.27 less on oil per candle — and, more importantly, the burn you tested is not the burn you are selling. Weigh once, write it on the sheet, cost that.
2 · Pricing the load as a share of the finished candle
CSI product pages state loads as a percentage of wax weight. 8% of 150 g of wax is 12 g of oil; 8% of a 162 g finished candle would be 12.96 g, a difference of ₹2.72 on Citrus Lemon and ₹7.34 on Dark Vanilla. Small per candle, real across a year, and it also moves you nearer a stated ceiling than you think you are.
3 · Forgetting that wicks and stickers are per-candle too
A wick at ₹5.90, a wick sticker at ₹2.50 and a care sticker at ₹0.83 look like rounding errors. Across 500 candles a year they are ₹4,613.00. Small lines belong in the sheet precisely because nobody notices them.
4 · Using a test-pack price for production
A 15 gm bottle of Citrus Lemon is the right way to try a scent, but at ₹3.40 a gram on the 50 gm and ₹2.83 a gram on the kilo, costing production at test-pack rates overstates your oil line by ₹31.15 a candle. Test at small packs, cost at the pack you will actually reorder.
5 · Ignoring the second wick test after a jar change
Jar diameter drives wick choice, and CSI does not publish wick sizes by diameter — the wick guide by diameter gives starting points and your own burn test settles it. Moving from C1 to C2 is ₹3.54 a candle; a Performance Wooden Wick at ₹59.00 from the pack of 10 is a different product at a different price. Budget one test round of three candles whenever the vessel changes.
Making 150 g cheaper without making it worse
The honest four. Buy the wax pack that matches your month rather than the 500 g pack, which is the only CSI 464 size that costs more per kilo (₹520.00 against ₹507.40). Settle your scent list so oil goes into the kilo pack rather than four 100 gm bottles. Pour at 8% rather than 10% where a test burn says throw is unchanged — ₹8.50 a candle on Citrus Lemon, ₹22.94 on Dark Vanilla. And keep your jar range to two shapes so packs of 10 are never half used.
The two false savings. Dropping to a cheaper wax whose fragrance ceiling is not published, without asking for the figure, saves ₹37.65 at most and risks a batch that sweats. And cutting the wick cost by using a thinner wick than the jar wants saves ₹3.54 and buys a tunnelled candle that a customer photographs. Neither is a saving; both are a return.
| Change | Saves per candle | Across 50 | What it costs you |
|---|---|---|---|
| Eco Soy CSI 400 instead of CSI 464 | ₹16.26 | ₹813.00 | A wax whose load ceiling is not published — ask first |
| Citrus Lemon instead of Dark Vanilla | ₹57.77 | ₹2,888.40 | A different scent proposition, not a cheaper version of the same one |
| 8% instead of 10% load | ₹8.50 | ₹424.80 | Nothing, if a cured burn test says throw holds |
| Clear jar instead of black | ₹12.60 | ₹630.00 | Every flaw in the wax is now visible |
| 1 kg oil pack instead of 50 gm bottles | ₹6.82 | ₹340.80 | Cash tied up in one scent |
| Skipping the care sticker | ₹0.83 | ₹41.30 | The one line that tells a customer how to burn it |
If you are pouring more than about fifty candles a month, the saving that actually matters is time, not materials. A Steel Pouring Pitcher at ₹708.00, a Wick Centering Device at ₹118.00 and, at volume, a Mini Electric Wax Melter at ₹2,360.00 change how many candles an evening produces. They are capital, not per-candle cost — spread them over the candles you will actually make, in your own sheet, and see the tool guide before you buy.
CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA sells the wax, oil, wicks and jars costed here, so the honest thing to say is this: at a 150 g fill, the wax grade you agonise over moves ₹37.65 a candle, and the cheapest sensible build in our own catalogue is ₹194.13. If a lower-priced grade passes your burn test, use it. We would rather you priced the candle correctly than upgraded a line that does not decide the outcome.
Every price is from live CSI stock in September 2026; the linked product pages are authoritative and prices and availability change. Fill capacities are quoted from the vessel pages (150 g on the two apothecary jars, 180 g on the Ceramic Jar, 200 ml on the matte glass and salsa jars). Fragrance load is a percentage of wax weight, the convention CSI pages use, and the governing limit is the lower of the wax page's stated maximum and the oil page's stated candle range. Where a page does not publish a figure — Eco Soy CSI 400's fragrance ceiling, wick sizes by jar diameter — we say so instead of estimating. The 5% wax, oil and jar allowances are stated assumptions, not measured data, and the ₹549.00 shelf price is illustrative only.
