CSI Wick Buying · 12 cm Luxury Jars
Two wicks or three multiplies every wick, sticker and placement you will ever make for a 12 cm candle. Test both on the rungs the geometry suggests, price the configurations that pass, and buy production only after a full-life burn.
₹17,700.00
wicks for 1,000 three-wick candles on 3 × C1 — less than two C2 per candle (₹18,880.00) · CSI live pricing, October 2026
Quick answers — read this first
Should a 12 cm luxury candle have two wicks or three? Test both before you buy production quantities. Two-wick arms: 2 × C2 and 2 × Cotton Braided. Three-wick arms: 3 × C1 and 3 × C2. Three candles each, twelve candles, from a C1 20 (₹118.00), a C2 20 (₹188.80) and a Cotton Braided 10 (₹120.00): ₹426.80 of wicks.

How much does the choice change the production bill? Per 1,000 candles, the wicks cost ₹11,800.00 on 2 × C1, ₹17,700.00 on 3 × C1, ₹18,880.00 on 2 × C2, ₹24,000.00 on 2 × Cotton Braided and ₹28,320.00 on 3 × C2. Three C1 cost ₹1,180.00 less than two C2.

Is the wick bill the real risk? No. The oil for 1,000 such candles is ₹318,696.00. The dearest wick configuration is 8.9% of that. The risk is pouring 1,000 candles around a configuration that fails in the final third.

When can I order production wicks? Only after all three candles of the winning configuration pass a full-life burn. For a 700 g candle that takes weeks; plan for it, especially before Diwali.
The short answer
Test: 2 × C2, 2 × Cotton Braided, 3 × C1 and 3 × C2, three 700 g candles each at 8% (56 g Dark Vanilla Oud + 644 g CSI 468).
Buy for the test: ₹426.80 of wicks; ₹9,686.80 in cash from nothing including oil, wax and stickers, before your twelve jars.
Price the winner: per 1,000 candles the wicks run from ₹11,800.00 (2 × C1) to ₹28,320.00 (3 × C2), plus a sticker per wick.
The honest limit: 12 cm is your jar (CSI lists none that wide), CSI's tabbed rungs are C1, C2 and Cotton Braided, and no CSI holder sets three wicks in a triangle.

Top: a 12 cm inside diameter at true scale, split two ways. Two wicks 6.0 cm apart each serve 56.55 cm², like a single wick in an 8.5 cm jar; three wicks on a 3.0 cm circumradius each serve 37.70 cm², like a single in a 6.9 cm jar. Those equivalences are why the two-wick arms use the larger rungs and the three-wick arms the smaller ones. Bottom: what each configuration costs in wicks and 10 mm stickers per 1,000 candles at CSI live prices on 1 October 2026. Positions are starting points for testing (our judgement), not rules.
Straight answer
I have a 12 cm wide luxury candle. How do I decide whether to test two or three wicks before purchasing production quantities?
Don't decide before testing: test both, and let the full-life result and the production bill decide together. A 12 cm inside pool is 113.10 cm²; two wicks give each 56.55 cm², three give each 37.70 cm². Test the two-wick option on the larger rungs (2 × C2, 2 × Cotton Braided) and the three-wick option on the smaller ones (3 × C1, 3 × C2), three candles each: a C1 20, a C2 20 and a Cotton Braided 10, ₹426.80 of wicks for twelve 700 g candles. Then price the configurations that pass: per 1,000 candles the wicks cost from ₹11,800.00 to ₹28,320.00, and three C1 (₹17,700.00) cost less than two C2 (₹18,880.00). The criteria beyond price (heat, labour, burn life, how your customers burn) are the two-or-three criteria post. Whatever wins, no production order until all three candles of that configuration pass a full-life burn.
One line: the test costs ₹426.80 in wicks; the wrong production configuration costs a thousand candles of oil, wax and jars.
The two-and-three-wick order: Eco C2 20-pack (₹188.80), Eco C1 20-pack (₹118.00; the 10-pack is out of stock on 1 October 2026) and Cotton Braided 10-pack (₹120.00). All in stock. The C2 100-pack waits until one configuration passes.
Eco C2 20 — ₹188.80

The production exposure: wicks per candle sets the bill

Two or three is a production decision first: it multiplies every wick, sticker and placement you will ever make for this candle.

C1, C2 and Cotton Braided are flat per wick in every pack, so the configuration, not the pack, decides the wick bill. Here it is per 1,000 candles, before and after a 5% allowance for rejects and retests (our worked-example figure):

Wick cost per 1,000 candles · flat per-wick pricing · CSI live pricing, 1 October 2026
Wicks per candle × 1,000 × price per wick · with 5% allowance · packs that cover it · stickers at one 10 mm sticker per wick · all figures declared
Configuration Per candle Per 1,000 Per 1,000 + 5% Packs Stickers per 1,000
2 × C1 ₹11.80 ₹11,800.00 ₹12,390.00 2 × 1,000 + 100 = ₹12,390.00 ₹5,000.00
3 × C1 ₹17.70 ₹17,700.00 ₹18,585.00 3 × 1,000 + 100 + 50 = ₹18,585.00 ₹7,500.00
2 × C2 ₹18.88 ₹18,880.00 ₹19,824.00 2 × 1,000 + 100 = ₹19,824.00 ₹5,000.00
2 × Cotton Braided ₹24.00 ₹24,000.00 ₹25,200.00 2 × 1,000 + 100 = ₹25,200.00 ₹5,000.00
3 × C2 ₹28.32 ₹28,320.00 ₹29,736.00 3 × 1,000 + 100 + 50 = ₹29,736.00 ₹7,500.00

Three things the table says that intuition does not. Three wicks are not automatically dearer: 3 × C1 costs ₹1,180.00 less per 1,000 candles than 2 × C2. The spread is real but bounded: the dearest configuration, 3 × C2, costs ₹16,520.00 more per 1,000 than the cheapest, 2 × C1. Stickers scale with wicks: a third wick adds a third sticker, and if you used the Large stickers at ₹6.22 each, 1,000 three-wick candles would need ₹18,675.00 of them, more than the 3 × C1 wicks.

Now set it against the candle. At a labelled 700 g fill and 8%, 1,000 candles need 56,000 g of Dark Vanilla Oud: ₹318,696.00 at the 1 kg price. The dearest wick bill is 8.9% of that oil bill, before wax and your jars. The production exposure in a 12 cm luxury candle is not the wick; it is everything poured around it.

Mistake: choosing two wicks because "three wicks cost 50% more". Why it fails: it compares the same rung, not the configurations that would actually pass. 3 × C1 against 2 × C2 is the realistic comparison at 12 cm, and three C1 are the cheaper of the two. Fix: test both on the rungs the geometry suggests, then price only the configurations that pass the full life.

Which two-wick and three-wick arms to test at 12 cm

Each wick of a pair works like a single in an 8.5 cm jar. Each of three works like a single in a jar just under 7 cm. Buy the rungs those jars would need.

Pool area is π × r² on the inside diameter: geometry, not a burn prediction. A 12 cm inside jar has 113.10 cm², 44% more than a 10 cm jar (78.54 cm²). Split two ways, each wick has 56.55 cm², the area a single wick has in a jar about 8.5 cm across; split three ways, 37.70 cm², like a single in a 6.9 cm jar. That equivalence is a starting point for choosing rungs (our judgement), and it is why the arms are not symmetrical.

Arms for a 12 cm inside jar · our judgement, labelled
Per-wick area, equivalent single-wick jar, rungs to test, and why · starting positions declared
Configuration Per wick Like a single in Arms Starting position
Two wicks 56.55 cm² about 8.5 cm 2 × C2, 2 × Cotton Braided 6.0 cm apart, 3.0 cm to the glass
Three wicks 37.70 cm² about 6.9 cm 3 × C1, 3 × C2 triangle, circumradius 3.0 cm: 3.0 cm to the glass, 5.20 cm apart
Not tested — — 2 × C1 (likely too little for 56.55 cm² each); 3 × Cotton Braided (CSI's largest rung, three times) add only if the tested arms point there

The single-wick equivalents come from this cluster's own pages: at 8.5 cm a single Cotton Braided is the expected candidate with C2 below it (the 8.5 cm post); at about 7 cm, C1 and C2 are the live singles. CSI publishes no wick data for either, and the pair shares one pool, so their flames interact in a way two separate jars do not: the equivalence chooses rungs, it does not predict the result.

If 12 cm is the outside of your jar, a 0.35 cm wall (our assumption) leaves about 11.3 cm inside, 100.29 cm², and every arm moves a little down. And note what CSI does not sell: no jar this wide. The widest diameter any CSI jar page states is about 10 cm (the Apothecary Dome Lid jar); the clip-top container states "11cm * 11cm * 10cm" without saying which figure is the width; the 600 gram borosilicate jar states no dimensions. None of them is a 12 cm jar.

Placing three wicks without a CSI holder

The Steel Wick Holder's three holes sit in a line, and its page says it fits jars "up to 9 cm wide"; no CSI holder sets a triangle. Mark 120° points on a paper circle cut to your jar's inside diameter, stick each tab through it with a sticker, and hold the wicks upright with sticks. The placement method is the 12 cm three-wick placement post; when a three-wick candle runs hot in the middle, the spacing test is the triangle-geometry post.

The twelve-candle ladder: counts, packs, rupees

Four arms, three candles each, one pot. Every arm costs about the same; the wicks are the smallest line.

The 700 g fill is our labelled worked example for a 12 cm luxury jar; weigh your own fill line and keep the load at 8% of total candle weight (56 g of oil + 644 g of wax per candle). Your twelve jars are the line we cannot price.

Wicks are 4.4% of that order. Per arm, materials consumed (oil at the 500 g price, wax at the 5 kg price, wicks at pack price) are ₹2,243.24 for 2 × C2, ₹2,258.60 for 2 × Cotton Braided, ₹2,239.70 for 3 × C1 and ₹2,271.56 for 3 × C2; the twelve candles burn ₹9,013.12 in all. Each candle carries ₹728.87 of oil and wax before a single wick. These figures exclude your jars, labour, freight, packaging and GST.

Buying the oil and wax for this ladder
Dark Vanilla Oud: 500 g + 2 × 100 g (₹4,025.00) is ₹105.00 cheaper than seven 100 g bottles for the same 700 g, and leaves 28 g. A split arm needs a three-candle re-pour of 168 g; a 100 g + 50 g (₹910.00) with the leftover covers it, bought only if needed. CSI 468: 5 kg + three 1 kg bags (₹5,135.00) leave 272 g; a re-pour needs 1,932 g. The 10 kg (₹6,370.00) costs ₹1,235.00 more, leaves 2,272 g and covers one re-pour; if you expect to re-pour, it is the honest buy.
Don't buy the C2 100-pack or the 1 kg of oil yet: both C2 arms need 15 wicks, and the C2 20 holds them at the same ₹9.44 a wick as the 100-pack. The 1 kg of Dark Vanilla Oud (₹5,691.00) is the same per gram as the 500 g and would leave 328 g you have no approved candle for. Argued against our own interest: both become sensible the day a configuration passes full life, not before.

The rule: no production order before a full-life pass

A 12 cm candle can look perfect for its first third. The configuration is chosen by its last third.

Heat commonly builds as a candle burns down: the pool deepens, flames can grow, and the glass above the pool takes heat. With two or three flames in one pool, that tendency has more to work with. A pair that reaches the glass neatly at burn 3 can run deep and hot halfway down; three small wicks can mushroom together late in life. That is why the purchase rule is absolute here: all three candles of one configuration pass a full-life burn, to about 1 cm left, before any production order. How far down counts is the acceptance-depth post; a jar that gets hotter with every burn is the cumulative-heat post, read by eye or with a non-contact thermometer, which CSI does not list, and never by touch.

1
Measure and template firstInside diameter at rim, middle and base; fill line by weighed water; a paper template per configuration with marks at 6.0 cm (pair) and on a 3.0 cm circumradius (triangle).
2
Pour all twelve from one pot7,728 g of CSI 468 with 672 g of Dark Vanilla Oud, mixed once. The CSI 468 page states "Pour Temperature 58°C – 60°C"; if your jar states a lower limit, the lower figure governs.
3
Cure togetherThe Dark Vanilla Oud page gives no cure time in the text we captured; many makers wait about a week before judging a soy-blend candle's throw.
4
Burn 4-hour sessions in still airThe single-wick rule of thumb (an hour per 2.5 cm) would say about 4.8 hours for 12 cm, but multi-wick pools are each smaller; 4 hours is a practical session. Light all wicks together; trim each to about 5–6 mm.
5
Screen at burn 3, keep the leaders burningDrop arms that clearly fail; take every arm still in contention to the end.
6
Choose on the full-life record and the billIf both a two-wick and a three-wick arm pass, weigh heat, soot, labour and the per-1,000 bill above, using the criteria scorecard.
Don't place a Diwali production order on burn-3 results: Diwali is 38 days from 1 October 2026, and a 700 g candle needs many sessions to burn down; a full-life test started now may not finish in time for a large festive run. Argued against our own interest: if the full life will not be done, make a smaller run you can stand behind, or move the launch; do not buy 3,000 wicks on a promise from the top third of a candle.

From approval to 1,000 candles

Approval releases a pilot, then the formula. It does not release the biggest pack.

Once one configuration passes, step up in two moves. First a pilot run poured exactly as production will be: a 30-candle pilot on 3 × C2 needs 90 wicks, which is the C2 100-pack (₹944.00); on 3 × C1 it is a C1 100 (₹590.00). Then the formula from the cluster hub: wicks = candles × wicks per candle × (1 + allowance), from packs that add up to the count, using the table at the top of this page.

What else scales with wicks per candle · judgement, labelled
Per 1,000 candles · two-wick vs three-wick

Customer instruction trim two wicks trim three wicks care labels should say so

How much testing a 5,000-wick commitment deserves is the 5,000-wick testing-scope post; a corporate order that should be approved on the exact production lots is the 10,000-wick corporate post; holding stock for a two-wick candle at volume is the two-wicks-per-candle holding post. A three-wick design at a different weight, with its own first ladder, is the three-wick 500 g post.

Don't buy 1,000-packs on approval day: the C1 or C2 1,000-pack is the same price per wick as the 20-pack (₹5.90 and ₹9.44). A month plus safety stock is enough; reorder on the formula. An approval also holds only for this jar, wax, oil and load: change the oil from Dark Vanilla Oud to a light floral and the three-wick arm may need to step down.

The wider planning view for a 4-inch luxury jar is the 4-inch jar post; the point at which three wicks start to make more sense than two by diameter is the three-wick threshold post. This page owns only the purchase: test both, price the passers, buy after the full life.

What to buy for a 12 cm two-or-three test, and what to skip

Five items, in the order the 12 cm ladder needs them, chosen on page statements, price and stock on 1 October 2026. CSI publishes no wick-performance data, so nothing is ranked on burn results. Oil candle counts use 56 g per 700 g candle and 12 g per 150 g candle.

The oil this page is costed on. The page describes it "opening with vanilla and spicy cardamom, deepening into exotic oud and deep amber, and settling into warm musk and woody cedar" and states "Recommended fragrance load 6-10% for candles"; 8% is inside that and inside CSI 468's 13%, so the oil page's 10% governs. In the text we captured it gives no vanillin figure or cure time. Vanilla-and-resin blends are commonly linked to more carbon on the wick: a tendency, worth watching in a three-wick candle where three wicks can mushroom at once. Per gram it falls from ₹7.00 at 15 g to ₹5.69 at 500 g and 1 kg.
Size Price Per gram 700 g candles at 8% (56 g) 150 g candles at 8% (12 g)

Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 (Flakes Form) For Container Candles
The worked example's wax. The page states "Melting Point 50°C – 53°C", "Pour Temperature 58°C – 60°C" and "Fragrance Load Up to 13%"; 8% of total weight is 8.70% of wax weight, inside 13% on either reading. A 700 g candle takes 644 g of wax, so the ladder needs 7,728 g. Per gram the 5 kg and 10 kg cost the same (₹0.64); the 1 kg costs more.
Pack Price Per unit What it covers here
500 g ₹325.00 ₹0.65 per g dearer per gram
1 kg ₹650.00 ₹0.65 per g tops up the 5 kg
5 kg ₹3,185.00 ₹0.64 per g with three 1 kg bags: twelve candles, 272 g left
10 kg ₹6,370.00 ₹0.64 per g twelve candles and a re-pour, 2,272 g left
Twelve candles: 7,728 g; 5 kg + three 1 kg bags cover them. Buy 5 kg — ₹3,185.00

Skip for this ladder: a 2 × C1 arm unless the 2 × C2 arm runs hot; a 3 × Cotton Braided arm unless 3 × C2 falls short; Performance Wooden Wicks (₹590.00 for 10, one listing with no widths: CSI does not sell a wider or narrower wooden wick, and three wooden wicks at ₹177.00 a candle is another product); the Steel Wick Holder (holes in a line, fits up to 9 cm, per its page); and any CSI jar as a stand-in for a 12 cm jar.

Planning a luxury range for Christmas (25 December 2026) or Valentine's Day (14 February 2027)? A twelve-candle ladder poured in October leaves time for full-life burns before a December production run. When a configuration passes, send us the configuration and your count: we will quote wicks, Dark Vanilla Oud and CSI 468 with a GST invoice and a dispatch date.

The CSI principle
Test both, price the passers, buy after the full life.
At 12 cm the wick configuration multiplies every wick, sticker and placement for the life of the candle, yet it is a small share of the bill next to the oil. The full-life pass is what protects the bill.
"In a luxury candle the cheapest decision is the number of wicks. The most expensive mistake is making it on the first burn."

Why trust this guide

CandleMakingSuppliesIndia sells the wicks, stickers, Dark Vanilla Oud and CSI 468 named here, and does not sell finished candles. This page still tells you that three C1 can cost less than two C2, that bigger tabbed packs save nothing per wick, that our Large sticker listing contradicts itself, that no CSI holder sets a triangle, and that we list no 12 cm jar.

Every price was verified on CSI's live store on 1 October 2026. Stock was checked per size: the Eco C1 10-pack and the 100-sticker sheet are out of stock on that date and are flagged where they appear; every other size shown is in stock. Product wording is quoted from the pages; where a page is silent in the text we captured, we say so.

The choice of arms, the single-wick equivalents, the 700 g fill, the 0.35 cm wall, the 6.0 cm and 3.0 cm starting positions, the 5% allowance, the pilot size and the production figures are our judgement or worked examples; melt-pool times are commonly cited rules of thumb. Frequently asked questions

How many wicks does a 12 cm candle need?
Usually more than one, but test before choosing: two wicks give each 56.55 cm² of a 12 cm inside pool, three give each 37.70 cm². With CSI wicks, test 2 × C2, 2 × Cotton Braided, 3 × C1 and 3 × C2, three candles each.
Is a three-wick candle more expensive to make than a two-wick candle?
Not necessarily. With CSI wicks, three C1 cost ₹17.70 a candle and two C2 cost ₹18.88. Three wicks do add a sticker and more setting time per candle.
How much do wicks cost for 1,000 candles?
With CSI's flat per-wick prices: ₹11,800.00 for 2 × C1, ₹17,700.00 for 3 × C1, ₹18,880.00 for 2 × C2, ₹24,000.00 for 2 × Cotton Braided and ₹28,320.00 for 3 × C2, before allowances and stickers.
How do I position three wicks in a large candle?
As a starting point, at the corners of a triangle with a 3.0 cm circumradius in a 12 cm inside jar: 3.0 cm from the glass and 5.20 cm apart. Use a paper template; CSI's Steel Wick Holder sets holes in a line.
Does CSI sell a 12 cm candle jar?
No. The widest diameter any CSI jar page states is about 10 cm (the Apothecary Dome Lid jar), and the clip-top container's "11cm * 11cm * 10cm" does not say which figure is the width. For 12 cm, use your own jar and measure its inside diameter.
When should I buy wicks in bulk for a new candle?
After all three test candles of the winning configuration pass a full-life burn, then a pilot run, then a month plus safety stock by formula. CSI's per-wick price is the same in every pack size, so buying early saves nothing.
Your two-or-three-wick ladder for a 12 cm jar

Non-price figures: load is a percentage of total candle weight (700 g at 8% = 56 g oil + 644 g wax; the standard 150 g candle at 8% = 12 g oil + 138 g wax). The 700 g fill, the 12 cm inside diameter and the 0.35 cm wall are labelled assumptions; pool area = π r² on the inside radius; two wicks: wick-to-wall = r − s/2; three wicks: wick-to-wall = r − ρ, wick-to-wick = ρ√3. Ceilings are as the pages state (CSI 468 up to 13%, pour 58–60°C; Dark Vanilla Oud 6–10% for candles): formulation limits, not regulatory ones. Melt-pool times are commonly cited rules of thumb. The arms, equivalences, positions, 5% allowance and pilot size are editorial judgement and worked examples. Costs exclude jars, labour, freight, packaging and GST.
