I Need 100 Silicone-Mould Candles but Each Finished Shape Has a Different Weight — How Do I Calculate Wax Requirements Accurately Before Buying Bulk Wax?
Aktie
Where do the weights come from? From the scale. Pour one test candle per design and weigh it finished, or water-fill each mould and convert with a labelled wax factor first. My Silicone Mould Holds 240 g of Water — How Do I Estimate How Much Pillar Wax Is Required for Each Finished Candle? covers the conversion. CSI does not publish mould or cavity weights.
How much wax is that? At an 8% labelled test load: 10,879 g of wax net. With one test pour per design and a 5% loss allowance, 11,983.23 g. That is 1 × 10 kg + 2 × 1 kg of Soy Pillar Wax, ₹7,200.00.
Can I just use an average weight? Only a quantity-weighted one. The simple average of the five shapes is 116 g, the weighted average 118.25 g. On a bigger order, or a more lopsided mix, that gap turns into kilograms. Three wrong methods are compared below.
The weight table
Here is the example order: 100 decorative candles across five of CSI's silicone moulds. Each finished weight is illustrative. It is the kind of number you get by pouring one candle in each mould and weighing it after it has set and been trimmed. CSI does not publish mould or cavity weights, so every figure in the weight column must come from your own scale.
| Design (mould) | Qty | Weighed finished weight | Qty × weight | Share of total | Oil at 8% | Wax at 92% |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Big Rose | 25 | 165 g | 4,125 g | 34.9% | 330 g | 3,795 g |
| Peony (big) | 20 | 140 g | 2,800 g | 23.7% | 224 g | 2,576 g |
| Orange | 15 | 120 g | 1,800 g | 15.2% | 144 g | 1,656 g |
| Teddy Bear (small) | 20 | 95 g | 1,900 g | 16.1% | 152 g | 1,748 g |
| Sunflower | 20 | 60 g | 1,200 g | 10.1% | 96 g | 1,104 g |
| Total | 100 | avg 118.25 g | 11,825 g | 100.0% | 946 g | 10,879 g |
Read the share column before anything else. The Big Rose is a quarter of the candles but 34.9% of the wax. The Sunflower is a fifth of the candles and only 10.1% of the wax. If the client changes the mix, say more roses and fewer sunflowers, the wax changes far more than the candle count suggests. Every change to the order is a change to one row of the table, and the total updates itself. That is the practical reason to keep the table rather than a single "candles × average" figure.
The oil and wax columns use CSI's convention: the load is a share of the finished weight, so a 165 g rose at 8% is 13.20 g of oil and 151.80 g of wax. The 8% is a labelled starting point for tests, not a specification. CSI publishes no fragrance ceiling for Soy Pillar Wax, so check the product page or ask on WhatsApp for the wax maker's stated maximum. Freestanding candles commonly show sweating or soft surfaces when a load is pushed too far, so test before scaling. If the order is unscented, the oil column is zero and the wax column equals the finished column. I Need 1,000 Decorative Mould Candles with No Fragrance — How Much Pillar Wax Should I Buy if Each Finished Candle Weighs 120 g? works through that case.
Getting a weight for every shape
There are two ways to get the weight column. Use the first when you have not poured the shape yet, and the second to confirm it. Both end at the scale.
Three wrong methods, compared
Each method below takes the same 100 candles through the same allowances: one test pour per design, 5% loss, 8% load. Only the way of arriving at the total finished weight changes. The wax needed is then rounded to Soy Pillar Wax bags.
| Method | Finished weight assumed | Wax needed | Bags | Cost | Result |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Every shape "about 100 g" | 10,000 g | 10,220.28 g | 1 × 10 kg + 1 × 500 g | ₹6,300.00 | 1,762.95 g short — roughly 16 average candles' worth |
| Weigh the biggest shape (rose) only | 16,500 g | 16,499.28 g | 1 × 10 kg + 1 × 5 kg + 1 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g | ₹9,900.00 | 4,516.05 g over — wax bought for candles you are not making |
| Simple average of the 5 shapes (116 g) | 11,600 g | 11,765.88 g | 1 × 10 kg + 2 × 1 kg | ₹7,200.00 | 217.35 g short — roughly 2 average candles' worth |
| Weight table (quantity-weighted) | 11,825 g | 11,983.23 g | 1 × 10 kg + 2 × 1 kg | ₹7,200.00 | The plan |
"About 100 g each" is the most common guess, and it runs short by nearly two kilos. You find out in the middle of the roses, which are poured first because they are the heaviest and the slowest to set. Weighing only the biggest shape does the opposite and buys wax for candles that do not exist. The simple average is the subtle one. Here it lands close to the real figure because the mix happens to be fairly balanced. Change the order to 60 roses and 10 each of the rest, and the simple average stays at 116 g while the real average rises to 140.50 g. The weighted table follows the order, and the simple average does not.
From the table to the wax order
The order of operations is the same as for any production run, with one change. The test allowance is per design, because each shape needs its own first pour. Five shapes means five test candles, one of each weight, not 5% of the count.
| Step | Finished weight | Oil (8%) | Wax (92%) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Weight table (100 candles) | 11,825 g | 946 g | 10,879 g |
| + one test pour per design (5 candles) | 12,405 g | 992.40 g | 11,412.60 g |
| + 5% loss | 13,025.25 g | 1,042.02 g | 11,983.23 g |
| Rounded to packs | — | 1 × 1 kg + 1 × 50 g (British Rose) | 1 × 10 kg + 2 × 1 kg (Soy Pillar Wax) |
One combined wax order covers all five shapes, because they all pour from the same Soy Pillar Wax. That is the advantage of the table over separate per-design orders. You round once, at 11,983.23 g → 12,000 g, rather than five times. Rounding each design to its own bag would leave five half-used bags. When the designs use different waxes, or some are scented and some are not, the wax order has to be split. I'm Producing Several Different Mould Candle Designs — How Do I Calculate the Combined Wax Requirement When Every Mould Has a Different Fill Weight? builds that version, with per-design allowances and mould cycles, and I Want to Buy Enough Wax for Both Jar Candles and Mould Candles — How Should I Calculate Quantities Separately When the Two Products Use Different Waxes? covers jar and mould candles on two different waxes.
The oil is also one order if all 100 candles share a scent. If each design carries its own fragrance, split the oil column by design, round each scent separately, and expect the rounding surplus to grow with the number of scents. The wax stays combined either way. For this example we use one scent across the range: British Rose, a sensible match for roses and peonies and one of the few oils with a real 1 kg saving (10.3% per gram against the 100 g).

| Candle Mold Sealer (optional) | — | 1 | ₹472.00 |
The wick line is a single Braided Wick Roll: 61 m of braided wick with 100 tabs, ₹706.82. Across 105 candles that is about 58 cm of wick each, far more than any of these shapes needs. Freestanding mould candles are usually wicked through the mould's hole, so the tabs are optional. Wick size for each shape is not published. A 165 g rose and a 60 g sunflower will not burn well on the same wick, so burn-test each design before the run. The five moulds are listed at their CSI prices (the Teddy Bear listing is titled Teddy Bear Mould Small). With one mould per design, 25 roses means 25 pour-and-set cycles on one mould. If your deadline is tight, I'm Producing Several Different Mould Candle Designs — How Do I Calculate the Combined Wax Requirement When Every Mould Has a Different Fill Weight? shows how to work out how many moulds each design needs.
If you already have a fixed quantity of wax and want to know how many candles it makes, the table works in reverse. Divide the wax by the table's wax-per-candle mix, then take off the allowances. I Have 25 Kg of Pillar Wax — How Many 150 g Mould Candles Can I Realistically Produce After Accounting for Spills and Trimming Waste? does this for 25 kg of pillar wax. For the individual mould conversion from water to wax, see My Silicone Mould Holds 240 g of Water — How Do I Estimate How Much Pillar Wax Is Required for Each Finished Candle?. CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. We sell the moulds on this page, but we do not publish their weights. We would rather you weighed one candle per shape than ordered from a number we cannot stand behind. The page also argues against the over-buying method that would sell us more wax.
Wax, oil, wick roll, mould, sealer and dye prices are CSI live pricing pulled on 24–25 September 2026. Out-of-stock items are not offered. The five finished weights are illustrative, chosen to show the method, not measurements of CSI moulds. Every total built on them is arithmetic shown to two decimals.
The 8% load is a labelled test starting point. No fragrance ceiling for Soy Pillar Wax is published in our data, so check the product page or ask. The one-test-per-design allowance, 5% loss and 0.86–0.90 wax factor are working assumptions. Wick size per shape is not published, so burn-test it.
