Supplier Selection · Long-term Supply
At hundreds of kilograms a year, a supplier costs you its price plus the fragrance and wick its wax needs, its rejects, its stock-outs, the cash its packs tie up, the information it does not give you and the cost of leaving. Measure them all.
₹33,040.00
a year's wax price difference at 400 kg, Natural Soy Pearl vs CSI 464 at 5–10 kg bag rates · CSI live pricing, re-checked 1 October 2026
Quick answers — read this first
What matters beyond price per kg? Total cost per saleable candle: recipe needs, lot consistency, availability, pack sizes and lead time, technical information, documents and switching cost.

How big is the price difference at volume? At 400 kg a year, Soy Pearl vs CSI 464 is ₹33,040.00 — ₹6.46 per 85 g tin.

What can erase that saving? About 6.9 points of extra rejects, or one week without wax (≈₹34,330.12 example revenue), in the example.

How do I qualify a long-term supplier? Sample bench, then three deliveries with retained samples, pulled candles and logged lead times. See the plan.
The short answer
Answer: Judge a long-term soy wax supplier on total cost per saleable candle across the relationship: price, recipe needs, consistency, availability, cash, information and switching cost.
Why: At hundreds of kilograms, a small reject rate or one week of stock-out can cost more than a year's price difference.
Plan: Price each hidden factor with your own numbers → sample bench (4 tins per wax) → three deliveries tracked → commit to larger packs. Scorecard.
Price per kilogram is the part of the supplier you can see Everything below the line is real money over a year of hundreds of kilograms — and none of it is on the price list ₹ / kg waterline Fragrance and wick your recipe needs in it Lot-to-lot consistency → rejects Stock availability → lost weeks of sales Lead time and pack sizes → cash tied up Technical information you can plan with Invoicing, documents, quotes beyond listed packs Cost of switching if it all goes wrong A ₹/kg saving is worth having only if nothing below the waterline costs more than it saves.
The supplier iceberg. Price per kilogram is the visible tip; recipe needs, consistency, availability, pack sizes and lead time, information, documents and switching cost sit below the waterline and can each cost as much over a year of commercial production.
Straight answer
I need a soy wax supplier for long-term commercial production — what matters beyond price per kilogram when I may eventually purchase hundreds of kilograms?
Total cost per saleable candle over the whole relationship — of which price per kilogram is only the visible part. Beyond price, six things decide what a supplier really costs: how much fragrance and which wick your recipe needs in that wax; how consistent it is from delivery to delivery, which shows up as rejects and retesting; whether it is in stock when you need it; the pack sizes and lead times, which decide how much cash sits on your shelf; how much technical information you get to plan with; and the cost of switching if it goes wrong. Put your own rupees on each. In the worked example — 400 kg a year in 85 g tins — Natural Soy Pearl and CSI 464 differ by ₹33,040.00 a year on price, but about 6.9 extra points of rejects, or one week without wax, would cost as much. Qualify over three deliveries, not one sample, before committing to large packs.
One line: price is one line; consistency and availability are the expensive ones — measure them over deliveries before you commit.
Before a long-term commitment, a bench in Golden Aluminium Tins (85 g published fill) comparing Natural Soy Pearl Wax and Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 with Fresh Strawberries costs ₹1,454.68. At 400 kg a year the two waxes differ by ₹33,040.00 on price alone — this page shows what else belongs in that comparison.

Total cost per saleable candle over the relationship — not price per kilogram

At hundreds of kilograms, the cheapest wax is the one that costs least per candle you actually sell, every month, for years.

Price per kilogram matters, and at commercial volumes it matters in rupees you can feel. But it is only the visible part of what a supplier costs you. Over a year of production, six other things can cost as much or more: how much fragrance and which wick your recipe needs in that wax; how consistent it is from one delivery to the next, which shows up as rejects; whether it is in stock when you need it, which shows up as lost weeks of sales; what pack sizes and lead times it comes in, which shows up as cash tied up in stock; how much technical information the supplier gives you to plan with; and how hard it would be to switch away if any of those go wrong.

So the honest answer is: judge a long-term supplier on total cost per saleable candle across the relationship. Put a number on each hidden factor where you can, using your own figures, and qualify the supplier over several deliveries rather than one sample — because consistency, the factor that matters most at volume, cannot be measured from one bag. The supplier scorecard turns these factors into a weighted comparison; this page puts rupees on them first.

The worked example is a business making candles in Golden Aluminium Tins — one of the two CSI containers with a published fill, 85 g — at 8% on CSI's finished-weight convention: 6.8 g of Fresh Strawberries and 78.2 g of wax per tin. The two candidates are Natural Soy Pearl Wax, ₹424.80 a kilo from 5 kg, and Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464, ₹507.40 a kilo flat. The example volume is 400 kg of wax a year — about 5,115 tins.

The CSI principle
A rupee saved per kilogram is real. So is every rupee the supplier costs you in rejects, stock-outs, cash and switching.
At hundreds of kilograms a year, the hidden lines can each be as large as the price difference. Price them before you sign up.

First, what price per kilogram is worth at your volume

Start with the visible line, properly. The table converts the price difference into annual rupees and per-tin rupees at three example volumes. Use the 5 kg and 10 kg rates, because at hundreds of kilograms you will not be buying 1 kg bags: Soy Pearl's 1 kg bag is ₹450.00, but from 5 kg it is ₹424.80 a kilo — the only real bulk break among CSI's soy waxes. CSI 464 is ₹507.40 a kilo at every size from 1 kg. Larger quantities on either are quoted on WhatsApp; no volume discount figure is published.

Wax only · 5 kg / 10 kg bag rates · CSI live pricing, re-checked 1 October 2026
What the price difference is worth a year
Annual wax Natural Soy Pearl CSI 464 Difference a year 85 g tins it makes
200 kg ₹84,960.00 ₹1,01,480.00 ₹16,520.00 2,558
400 kg ₹1,69,920.00 ₹2,02,960.00 ₹33,040.00 5,115
800 kg ₹3,39,840.00 ₹4,05,920.00 ₹66,080.00 10,230

At 400 kg a year the difference is ₹33,040.00, or ₹6.46 a tin. Per tin, the full material cost — wax, 6.8 g of Fresh Strawberries at the 1 kg rate (₹3.54 a gram), a ₹5.90 Eco Thin C1 wick and the ₹30.00 tin — is ₹93.19 on Soy Pearl and ₹99.65 on CSI 464, excluding labour, packaging, freight and GST. The wax is a little over a third of the material; the oil and the tin together are the rest. That proportion is why the hidden lines below can matter as much as the price.

Comparing price per kilogram on the 1 kg bag. A buyer compares ₹450.00 against ₹507.40 and concludes the saving is ₹57.40 a kilo. At commercial volume it is ₹82.60, because Soy Pearl's bulk break starts at 5 kg and CSI 464 has none. Fix: always compare at the pack size you will actually buy — and remember that bigger is not automatically cheaper: Luxury Soy Wax Chunks' 10 kg bag is ₹599.90 a kilo, dearer than its 5 kg bag.

Putting rupees on what sits below the waterline

Every hidden factor has a price. You just have to write in your own numbers.

The table prices each hidden factor for the 400 kg example. Every figure marked example is a placeholder for your own: selling price, holding rate, reject rate and freight are not published by CSI, and not facts about the market. The point is the method — and the comparison with the ₹33,040.00 price difference in the last column.

400 kg a year · 5,115 tins · example figures you replace with your own
Hidden supplier costs against the price difference
Factor How it costs you Example calculation Size vs the ₹33,040.00 price gap
Recipe needs in this wax More oil or a dearer wick at the same result +1% load on every tin = 0.85 g oil × ₹3.54/g × 5,115 ₹15,391.30
Consistency between lots Rejects, rework, retesting Each extra 1% rejects = 51 tins × ₹93.19 ₹4,766.82
Stock availability Weeks without production One week = 98 tins × example ₹349.00 selling price ₹34,330.12 revenue
Pack size and lead time Cash tied up in stock Avg stock buying 50 kg bags × example 12% holding rate ₹1,274.40 a year
Technical information Trial-and-error you must do yourself Extra test rounds (see the kit below) ~₹1,454.68 per round
Switching cost Re-qualifying a new wax across your range Bench + pilot per key product (see 5491) Several thousand ₹ + weeks
Freight Delivered cost per kilogram Example ₹___ per kg — replace with your quote Your figure × kg

Two lines deserve attention. A reject rate only 6.9 percentage points higher in Soy Pearl than in CSI 464 would eat the entire ₹33,040.00 price advantage in this example — and the same arithmetic runs the other way if CSI 464 turned out to reject more. One week without wax costs about ₹34,330.12 of example revenue, more than the year's price difference on its own. Neither number says anything about either CSI wax: CSI publishes no reject or consistency data. They show you what to measure before committing. Whether a dearer wax with fewer rejects improves profit takes the reject line further; freight is your own quote, added per kilogram.

Cash tied up is smaller than it looks — but it is not zero
Buying Soy Pearl in its 50 kg bag (₹21,240.00, listed in limited stock — confirm on WhatsApp) at 33.3 kg a month leaves an average of about 25 kg on the shelf, worth ₹10,620.00; at an example 12% holding rate that is ₹1,274.40 a year. Buying a month at a time in 10 kg and 5 kg bags cuts the average stock and the holding cost by about a third (₹849.60) — but every extra order is another chance to meet a stock-out. Cash preservation against unit cost is the full version of this trade.

What to ask a supplier before a long-term commitment

Each hidden factor has a question behind it. Ask them in writing and keep the answers; a supplier's honest "we don't publish that" is as useful to you as a confident figure, because it tells you which risks you carry. The right-hand column is CSI's honest answer for its own soy waxes.

Long-term supplier questions · CSI's answers for its own soy waxes
Ten questions beyond price
Question Factor CSI's answer
What pack sizes are listed, and what lies beyond them? Pack / cash Container wax bags to 10 kg; Soy Pearl to 50 kg (limited stock); larger by WhatsApp quote
Is there a published price break by size? Price Only Soy Pearl (₹450.00 → ₹424.80 a kilo from 5 kg); others flat or none
Is there a volume discount for regular orders? Price Quoted on WhatsApp; no discount figure is published
What melt, pour, load and shelf-life figures are stated? Information Varies by wax — e.g. CSI 468 states melting point, pour, 13%, 60 months; Soy Pearl states none
Are lot numbers or certificates provided per delivery? Consistency No lot numbers or CoAs are published; record order date and bag yourself
Will you tell me if the product changes? Consistency No change-notice service is published
How do you handle a stock-out? Availability Stock status shows on the listing; ask on WhatsApp for restock timing
What are delivery times to my city? Lead time Not published — ask on WhatsApp and log actual deliveries yourself
Can you invoice with GST and supply MSDS? Documents GST invoicing and MSDS on request on WhatsApp
If I stop buying, what does it cost me to leave? Switching No contract or minimum commitment is published; your cost is re-qualifying another wax
Argued against our own interest, plainly. Several of our honest answers above are "not published": no lot numbers, no change notices, no delivery times, no reject data. A long-term buyer should weigh that. It does not rule CSI out, but it means you carry the consistency and lead-time risk yourself — through retained samples, lot tracking and a qualified backup — and you should price that work into your comparison with any supplier who does provide more.

Qualifying over three deliveries, not one sample

The factors that matter most at volume — consistency and availability — cannot be judged from a sample. A sample tells you whether the wax can work in your candle. Three deliveries tell you whether it keeps working, and whether it arrives when you need it. Build that into the plan from the start.

1
Sample stage: bench both candidates in your product4 tins per wax with Fresh Strawberries at 8% on Eco Thin C1 — three burned, one stored — poured the same day. The standard test candle can screen first if you have one. Follow each wax's own instructions: Soy Pearl publishes no temperatures, so record yours; CSI 464's spec table lists an 80–90°C melt/pour working range.
2
Delivery 1: buy a month, keep a retained sampleIf a candidate passes, buy one month of production in it. Seal 200–300 g as a retained sample, labelled with the order date and bag. Retained samples explains why this is the cheapest insurance you will buy.
3
Deliveries 2 and 3: pull 3 candles, burn against delivery 1From the first batch made with each later delivery, pull three tins and burn them beside tins from the retained delivery-1 sample. You are measuring the supplier's consistency, which no data sheet gives you. Incoming QC sets out the checks.
4
Log the order-to-arrival time of every deliveryThree deliveries give you a real lead time, which is what your reorder point should use — not a promise. Your reorder point should be built on it.
5
Decide at delivery 3Only now commit to the larger formats and longer horizons — 50 kg bags, quarterly buying, a quote for volume.

The priced sample bench

Each wax covers 4 tins × 78.2 g = 312.8 g, 328.4 g with a 5% allowance. The oil covers 8 tins × 6.8 g = 54.4 g, 57.1 g with the allowance. The Golden Aluminium Tin comes in a pack of 12 at ₹360.00. Wax prices are CSI live pricing, re-checked 1 October 2026; oil CSI live pricing, pulled 24 September 2026; wicks & jars verified 10 September 2026; tins from the 25 September catalogue pull.

Eco Candle Wicks Thin C1 8 + 2 spare 1 × 10 ₹59.00

The bench uses the smallest bags, so Soy Pearl comes in at its 1 kg price and CSI 464 at its 500 g price. Leftover wax is not wasted: it becomes the start of the retained sample for each candidate. The four spare tins in the 12-pack cover the first 3 pulled candles from delivery 2.

Long-term candidate · the only soy wax with a bulk break
Natural Soy Pearl Wax
Natural Soy Pearl drops from ₹450.00 to ₹424.80 a kilo at 5 kg and stays there through 10 kg and 50 kg. CSI's product page publishes no melt point, pour temperature, fragrance ceiling or shelf life, so its information line is thin and your own testing carries more weight. The decision rule and the first long-term purchase

Apply after the sample bench and three deliveries · working decision rule
Choosing a long-term supplier on total cost
What you found Decision
Both pass; consistency equal over three deliveries Choose the lower total cost per saleable candle, including freight and your holding cost
Cheaper wax has more rejects or more variable lots Compare the reject cost with the price gap; at the example volume, about 6.9 points of extra rejects erases it
Cheaper wax had a stock-out during qualification Keep it only with a qualified backup — backup supplier
Dearer wax needs less oil or a cheaper wick at your recipe Re-run the per-tin cost; it may be cheaper overall — total formulation cost
Either fails a safety line Out, regardless of price

If Soy Pearl qualifies, the first long-term purchase in the example is one month of wax, 34.3 kg with a 3% allowance, bought as 3 × 10 kg + 1 × 5 kg at ₹14,868.00 — the 5 kg and 10 kg bags already carry the ₹424.80 rate, so you do not need the 50 kg bag to get the price. Move to 50 kg bags at ₹21,240.00 only after three consistent deliveries, and only if the holding cost suits you. If CSI 464 qualifies, the same month is 3 × 10 kg + 1 × 5 kg at ₹17,759.00. Either way, the procurement system turns your logged lead times into reorder points, and the 500 kg validation applies before any single very large order.

The supplier you choose for hundreds of kilograms is the one whose total cost you have measured — not the one whose price you have read.

Two suppliers with similar samples is the shorter head-to-head, approving a backup handles availability risk and asking for lot numbers handles traceability. Working in jars rather than tins? The method is identical; only the per-candle grams change. Luxury Soy Wax Chunks (page states up to 13%) and Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 (page states up to 13%, melting point 50–53°C) are the other container candidates; note that neither has a bulk break that makes bigger bags cheaper per kilo. Frequently asked questions

How do I choose a soy wax supplier for a candle business?
Shortlist on price at the pack size you will buy, test the wax in your own product, then qualify the supplier over several deliveries for consistency and lead time before committing to large packs.
Is cheaper soy wax worth it at large volumes?
Only if nothing else costs more. In the example a ₹82.60 per kg saving at 400 kg a year is ₹33,040.00, which about 6.9 extra points of rejects or one week of stock-out would cancel.
Does CSI offer bulk soy wax pricing?
Natural Soy Pearl has a listed break from ₹450.00 to ₹424.80 a kilo at 5 kg; other soy waxes are flat or dearer in bigger bags. Quantities beyond listed packs are quoted on WhatsApp; no discount figure is published.
What is the biggest soy wax pack CSI lists?
Container wax bags go to 10 kg. Natural Soy Pearl is listed at 50 kg (₹21,240.00), in limited stock — confirm on WhatsApp before planning around it.
How do I check a soy wax supplier's consistency?
Keep a retained sample from each delivery and burn pulled candles from each new delivery beside candles from the retained sample. Three deliveries give a first read.
Should I buy soy wax in 50 kg bags to save money?
Only if the per-kilo price is lower at that size and the holding cost suits you. For Soy Pearl the ₹424.80 rate already applies from 5 kg, so the 50 kg bag buys convenience, not a lower rate.

The only true melting point published is CSI 468's 50–53°C. CSI publishes no burn results, throw data, hardness, frosting, adhesion, heat-survival data, lot numbers, CoAs or batch-consistency data. Material costs exclude labour, packaging, freight and GST. Diwali 2026 falls on Sunday 8 November. The 400 kg year, ₹349.00 tin price, 12% holding rate, reject rates, freight placeholder, four tins per wax, three pulled candles per delivery and loss allowances are labelled examples and working practices.
