I Need an Emergency Replacement Wick for a 1,000-Candle Corporate Order — What Tests Are Essential Before Production?
Aktie
How do I test faster? Test two candidates in parallel, burn two sessions a day with full cool-down, use one cure checkpoint and shallow-pour candles to screen end-of-life early.
How long does it take? On example figures: pour on day 3, cure 7 days, full life in about 5 days at two sessions a day — go/no-go on 14 Oct, production cured by 26 Oct.
What if neither wick passes in time? Partial delivery on your remaining approved wicks, a renegotiated date, or the exact approved wick from another stockist. Not an untested wick. See the options.
What is essential — and what only feels essential
You have a corporate order for 1,000 candles — your figure — and the wick you approved the candle with is unavailable. The replacement has to be tested, and there is not much time: from today, 29 Sep, Diwali is 40 days away, and this page uses an example delivery date of 30 Oct, 31 days out. Corporate Diwali orders often need to land before the festival week, so that is a realistic squeeze. Replace the date with your own; the logic does not change.
Emergencies do not change what a wick change invalidates; they change how efficiently you test it. Every combustion result you held is void — flame, pool, soot, mushrooming, jar-side reading, throw, consumption, end of life — because the wick is the part of the candle that burns. What you can compress is the shape of the test: fewer candidates, parallel burning, a shallow-pour screen for the end-of-life question, one cure checkpoint instead of three. What you cannot compress is the full life of the chosen wick, because a thousand corporate gifts that misbehave on their last burn are a thousand complaints landing on your client's desk with your name attached.
| Result | Verdict | Essential? | How it is compressed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Load, mixing, cold throw, storage appearance | KEEP | No retest | — |
| Flame, soot, mushrooming, jar-side reading | REPEAT | Yes — every burn | Two burn sessions a day, full cool-down between (working practice) |
| Time to full pool, pool depth | REPEAT | Yes | Logged in the same sessions |
| End of life: extinction, leftover, base heat | REPEAT | Yes | Shallow-pour screen early; full-height full life before go |
| Hot throw | REPEAT | Yes, but scored once | One blind score at the cure checkpoint vs control |
| Consumption and label burn time | CONFIRM | Yes if a burn time is printed | Weigh before and after each burn |
| Multiple cure checkpoints | — | No — one is enough here | 7 days as a labelled example |
| Other fragrances | — | Only those in this order | Other SKUs wait — see the eight-fragrance post |
| Pilot burn from the production batch | NEW | Yes | One candle from the first production day, burned against the control |
Choose two candidates, not one
With time short, testing one replacement and hoping is the most expensive plan, because a failure at day twelve leaves no time for a second attempt. Test two candidates in parallel against a control made with your remaining approved wicks — three are enough — or, if none are left, against retained candles from an earlier approved batch. The worked example uses two CSI wicks that are listed in 10-packs for testing and 1,000-packs for production: Eco Candle Wicks Thin C1 (₹5.90 each) and Thick C2 (₹9.44 each). CSI publishes no burn data, construction details or size-per-diameter charts for either and does not claim either is equivalent to your approved wick; they are candidates because they are buyable in both test and production quantities, which in an emergency matters as much as anything.
| Arm | Wick | Full-height 200 g | Shallow 60 g | Purpose |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Control | Your remaining approved wicks | 3 | — | The standard every line is judged against |
| Candidate A | Eco Thin C1 (priced example) | 3 | 2 | Full life + early end-of-life screen |
| Candidate B | Eco Thick C2 (priced example) | 3 | 2 | Full life + early end-of-life screen |
| Total | 9 | 4 | 13 |
The shallow-pour candles hold 60 g — a labelled working choice — so the flame reaches the tab within a burn or two. They give an early warning on extinction, leftover wax and tab behaviour while the full-height candles are still near the top. They do not replace the full-height last burn, because they do not reproduce the heat the glass accumulates over a full life. The tab-change post explains the method in detail.
The schedule, day by day
Every duration below is a labelled working assumption you replace: materials in hand by day 3, a 7-day cure checkpoint, two burn sessions a day of about 4 hours with full cool-down between, and a full life of about 38 burn hours (an example 190 g of usable wax at 5.0 g per hour). With two sessions a day, the full life takes about 5 days instead of 10. Production pours at an example 200 candles a day and cures to the same 7-day checkpoint before packing.
| Date | Step | Gate |
|---|---|---|
| 29 Sep | Confirm production stock of both candidates; order test kit | Both candidates buyable in 1,000s? |
| 2 Oct | Tare jars, pour all 13 test candles from one batch | All wicks centred and upright? |
| 4 Oct | Shallow-pour screen: burn to extinction, weigh leftover | Drop any candidate worse than control at the end |
| 9 Oct | 7-day cure checkpoint: cold and hot throw scored blind once | Throw not clearly weaker than control |
| 9 Oct → 14 Oct | Full-life burns, two sessions a day, every safety line logged | No line worse than control, any burn |
| 14 Oct | GO / NO-GO; order production wicks for the winner | Full life complete for the chosen wick |
| 15 Oct → 19 Oct | Production pour, 200 a day; burn one candle from day one against the control | Pilot matches the test |
| 26 Oct | Production cure checkpoint reached | — |
| → 30 Oct | Pack and ship | 4 days — the only buffer |
On these assumptions production is cured 4 days before the example delivery date, and those days are also your packing and shipping time. That absorbs one small problem — a late delivery of test materials, a candidate that needs one more burn — if packing is quick, but not a failed candidate and a restart. That is exactly why two candidates are tested at once. If your real dates leave no slack, decide now what you will do on a no-go, rather than on the day.
The scoring sheet and the go / no-go rule
| Line | Record | Go condition |
|---|---|---|
| Flame height | mm vs ruler, fixed minute | No taller than control; within your jar supplier's guidance and your standard |
| Soot and mushrooming | Rim, white card, wick-head photo | No worse than control |
| Jar-side reading | Same spot, same minute, same instrument | No warmer than control |
| Time to full pool | Minutes from lighting | Inside the session, like control |
| Hot throw (once, blind) | 1–5 in a fixed room | Not clearly weaker than control |
| End of life | Extinction, leftover (final − tare), base check, tab holding | No worse than control |
| Consumption | Weight lost ÷ hours | Recorded; label recalculated if printed |
| Result on the go date | Decision |
|---|---|
| One candidate passes every line through its full life | GO with that candidate; order its production wicks today |
| Both pass | GO with the one closest to the control on every line — not the one that throws most (hotter-jar post) |
| Leading candidate has passed so far but its full life is unfinished | Hold — use the slack; if none, go to the no-go options |
| Neither passes | NO-GO — see the options below |
If it is a no-go: the options, honestly
There are three honest options when no candidate passes in time. Partial delivery: make as many candles as your remaining approved wicks allow and agree the balance with the client. Renegotiate the date: tell the client now, with the reason, and offer a date the full life can support. Source the approved wick elsewhere: if another stockist has the exact approved wick, that is not a wick change at all — but confirm it is genuinely the same product and run a CONFIRM pair against a retained candle. Corporate clients generally cope better with an early, specific message than a late surprise. The 5,000-candle order post works through substitution against partial production and waiting on a larger order.
What is not on the list is shipping on the best-looking untested candidate. It can feel like the commercially brave choice, but a corporate order multiplies risk: the same flaw in every one of a thousand gifts, in the offices of a client who chose you for reliability.
The priced test kit and the production wicks
Test materials are listed, in-stock CSI sizes on the pull dates, with a 5% pour-loss allowance (working assumption). Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 is rated up to 10% fragrance load by the wax maker, so 8% is inside its stated maximum; CSI's own guidance for it is 80–90°C melt/pour — confirm on the product page. Control wicks come from your own remaining stock.
| Item | Need | Buy | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 | 1,877 g + 5% = 1,970.6 g | 2 × 1 kg | ₹1,014.80 |
| Saffron Cedarwood Fragrance Oil | 163 g + 5% = 171.4 g | 1 × 100 g + 5 × 15 g | ₹1,215.40 |
| Eco Candle Wicks Thin C1 | 5 wicks | 1 × 10 | ₹59.00 |
| Eco Candle Wicks Thick C2 | 5 wicks | 1 × 10 | ₹94.40 |
| White Matte Glass Jar | 13 jars | 3 × pack of 5 | ₹1,062.00 |
| Total | 13 test candles | ₹3,445.60 |
| Item | Need | Buy | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Eco Candle Wicks Thin C1 (if A wins) | 1,030 | 1 × 1000 + 1 × 20 + 1 × 10 | ₹6,077.00 |
| Eco Candle Wicks Thick C2 (if B wins) | 1,030 | 1 × 1000 + 1 × 20 + 1 × 10 | ₹9,723.20 |
| Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 | 189,520 g | 19 × 10 kg | ₹96,406.00 |
| Saffron Cedarwood — 500 g route | 16,480 g | 33 × 500 g | ₹85,278.60 |
| Saffron Cedarwood — 1 kg route | 16,480 g | 17 × 1 kg | ₹1,16,749.20 |
| White Matte Glass Jar | 1,030 | 206 × pack of 5 | ₹72,924.00 |
Look at the two oil lines. Saffron Cedarwood is one of the oddities in CSI's listing: the 500 g bottle is ₹5.17 a gram and the 1 kg is ₹6.87, so 33 × 500 g is ₹31,470.60 cheaper than 17 × 1 kg for the same order. Per-gram breaks on the catalogue are rare and not always where you expect them; check before you default to the biggest bottle. Larger quantities than the listed packs are quoted on WhatsApp, with no published discount figure. CSI 464 is priced flat at ₹507.40 a kilo from 1 kg to 10 kg.

Release and record — even in a hurry
If the emergency is the wax rather than the wick, the 1,000-candle wax post applies the same compressed-but-complete logic. If you have already bought a large quantity of a wick that is not working, the 5,000-wick post covers what to do with it.
CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. An emergency is when a supplier could sell the most — both candidate wicks in thousands, today. This page says buy 10-packs, test, then buy one production quantity, and that partial delivery beats an untested wick.
Wax and oil prices are CSI live listings pulled on 24 September 2026; wick and jar prices are those verified for Blog 760 on 10 September 2026, with wick packs rechecked on 25 September 2026. Kit and production quantities, pack rounding and schedule dates are arithmetic you can check.
The 1,000 candles are the reader's figure. The 30 Oct delivery date, 3-day materials lead, 7-day cure, two 4-hour sessions a day, 190 g usable wax at 5.0 g per hour, 200 candles poured a day, 3% production allowance and 60 g shallow pours are labelled working assumptions. CSI publishes no delivery times, burn data or flame and jar-temperature limits. For stock checks, bulk pricing, GST invoicing, MSDS or IFRA documentation, message us on WhatsApp at +91 7397976926.
