Quick answers — read this first
One ₹50.00 saving or several smaller ones? Several, run in a fixed order, with the big change held in reserve. On a worked candle the one big option, a matte jar to the clear Salsa, is worth ₹41.30: it can never reach ₹50.00 on its own, and on a labelled 50% chance its expected value is ₹20.65. Four smaller changes worth ₹50.00 together have an expected value of ₹33.00, but only a 21.4% chance that all four pass.

So which plan is best? A staged one: run the cheap, reversible changes first (fragrance load, rejects, box), then decide the jar with their results in hand. If all three pass, the smaller ₹20.00 jar change finishes the job; if one fails, the ₹41.30 jar becomes the route. On the same judgement probabilities that plan reaches ₹50.00 with about a 54.7% chance, against 44.0% for committing to the hybrid up front and nothing for the big change alone.

What decides it, besides rupees? Four things per change: the chance it passes, what the test costs, whether the buyer can see it, and whether you can undo it. A box can be undone next month; a jar change in front of customers cannot be unseen.

What is each plan worth in a year? At 300 candles a month (worked example; use your own), net of test costs: four smaller changes ₹1,12,316.40 expected, one big change ₹70,622.98, the hybrid ₹1,41,840.82.
The short answer
Rule: prefer the set of changes with the highest expected rupees net of test cost and an acceptable chance of reaching the target; run invisible and reversible changes first; hold the most visible change until you know whether you need it.
Worked numbers: one big jar change ₹41.30, expected ₹20.65, 50.0% chance of ₹40.00+, no chance of ₹50.00. Four smaller ₹50.00, expected ₹33.00, 21.4% chance of ₹50.00. Staged plan: about 54.7%.
Why not one big change: it is ₹8.70 short even when it works, it is the most visible change, and its test costs ₹3,717.02 whether or not it passes.
The gate: every change is tested alone against a control; a failed change books nothing and the plan adapts.
How likely is each plan to find ₹50.00? Chance of saving at least the amount on the axis, per candle. Probabilities are labelled judgement, not data. 0% 25% 50% 75% 100% 0 ₹25.00 ₹50.00 ₹75.00 target 44.0% 21.4% Hybrid: oil + waste + box + big jar Four smaller changes One big jar change (₹41.30): never reaches the target Worked 160 g matte-jar candle; CSI live prices, 4 October 2026.
Read across at any saving to see the chance of getting at least that much. The dotted line, one big jar change, stops at ₹41.30: it never reaches the dashed target. The grey line, four smaller changes, reaches ₹50.00 with a 21.4% chance; the black hybrid line with 44.0%. The staged plan in the text does better still.
Straight answer
I need to remove ₹50.00 from my candle cost. Should I target one ₹50.00 saving or several smaller savings across wax, fragrance, jar and packaging?
Treat the ₹50.00 as a portfolio, not a single bet. Each candidate change has a value if it works, a chance of working, a test cost, a visibility to the buyer and a way back if it fails. One big change concentrates all of that in one place: one test, one decision, but one failure takes the whole saving, and the biggest single change most candles offer is a jar change the buyer sees first. Several smaller changes spread the risk: more tests, but some will pass even if others fail, and the expected rupees are higher. On the worked candle the big change (₹41.30) is expected to deliver ₹20.65; the four smaller ones ₹33.00. The best plan uses both: run the cheap, invisible and reversible changes first, then choose between the small jar change and the big one with the results in hand. That staged plan has about a 54.7% chance of reaching ₹50.00 on the labelled probabilities, and it never puts a visible change in front of customers unless the invisible ones have fallen short.
One line: spread the ₹50.00 across changes you can test cheaply and undo, and keep the big visible change as the reserve, not the plan.
The big change has a pack trap: the clear 200ml Salsa is ₹29.50 a jar only in 50s and 100s; in 5s it is ₹40.12, just ₹30.68 under the matte jar. So the ₹41.30 test needs the ₹1,475.00 50-pack. Every matte and frosted 200 ml jar is flat at ₹70.80. In stock on 4 October 2026.
Clear Salsa 50 — ₹1,475.00

The worked candle and its ₹50.00

Before choosing between one change and several, know what each line can give.

The title gives only the ₹50.00. So this page uses a worked candle in a CSI 200 ml matte jar: a 160 g fill (a 200 ml jar holds less than 200 g of wax; weigh your own test pour) at 10%, 16.0 g of oil and 144.0 g of wax. The jar and wick are CSI items at live prices; the oil, wax, box, label and the 6% reject rate are labelled worked examples for your own figures.

Worked candle · 160 g in a 200 ml matte jar · per saleable candle
CSI live prices where named, worked figures labelled · rejects lose jar, oil, wax and wick (box and label go on after QC) · % rounded, sums to 100.0%
Line Item Quantity ₹ per candle % of COGS
Jar White Matte Glass Jar, CSI 1 ₹70.80 26.6%
Fragrance your oil at ₹4,250.00 per kg (worked) 16.0 g ₹68.00 25.6%
Wax your wax at ₹500.00 per kg (worked) 144.0 g ₹72.00 27.1%
Wick Eco C2, CSI 1 ₹9.44 3.6%
Box your printed box (worked) 1 ₹28.00 10.5%
Label your label (worked) 1 ₹3.50 1.3%
Rejects 6% of poured candles (worked) on ₹220.24 ₹14.06 5.3%
Total ₹265.80 100.0%

Taking ₹50.00 out leaves ₹215.80. The jar is the biggest single line at 26.6%, which is why the one big change is a jar change. Fragrance and wax together are a little over half. Rejects at 6% are a line most BOMs leave out, and the cheapest to attack. Costs are materials only, excluding labour, freight, GST and marketing.

Five candidates, scored four ways

A rupee saved by a change you can undo is worth more than a rupee saved by one you cannot.
The candidates · value, chance, test cost, visibility, reversibility
Saving per candle if it passes · chance = labelled judgement for this worked candle · test cost at CSI prices for CSI items, worked figures for yours
Change Saving Chance it passes Test cost Buyer sees it? Reversible?
1 · fragrance load 10% → 8% ₹12.00 60% ₹2,828.16 Only if throw drops Yes, next batch
2 · rejects and pitcher waste ₹10.00 70% ₹954.00 No Yes
3 · simpler printed box ₹8.00 85% ₹600.00 Yes, mildly Yes, next order
4 · similar matte jar, second supplier ₹20.00 60% ₹2,101.44 Barely, if it matches Slowly (stock)
5 · matte → clear Salsa (the one big change) ₹41.30 50% ₹3,717.02 Yes, first thing No: buyers have seen it

The four smaller changes

Fragrance load. 10% to 8% of a 160 g fill is 16.0 g to 12.8 g: 3.2 g less oil at ₹4,250.00 a kilo, less 3.2 g of extra wax, nets ₹12.00. It passes only if a blind burn test shows 8% throws as well; some oils need the higher load. How to design that test is the lower-load test post. If the load cannot move, the bottle size sometimes can: on Roasted Coffee, 50 g bottles to the 1 kg is ₹11.03 a candle at 12.8 g.

Rejects and waste. At 6% rejects this candle carries ₹14.06 of lost jars, oil, wax and wicks. Your estimate of ₹10.00 from tighter process means getting rejects down to about 1.8%: pre-warmed jars, pouring inside the wax page's stated range, scraping pitchers. No reformulation, no visible change, and the counting method is the true-cost post.

Simpler box. A ₹20.00 box from your printer instead of ₹28.00: ₹8.00, mildly visible, undone on the next order. Similar matte jar. A second supplier's matte jar at ₹50.80 (worked quote) saves ₹20.00 if it matches in look, size and heat behaviour; it still needs a wick and heat check, because a jar from a different mould is a different jar.

The one big change

The clear 200ml Salsa at ₹29.50 in 50s against the matte jar at ₹70.80: ₹41.30 a candle, the biggest single saving the jar line offers at CSI prices, and the reason "one big change" tempts. Three problems. It is ₹8.70 short of ₹50.00 even when it works. It is the most visible change a candle can make: clear glass and a golden lug cap against matte. And it is the least reversible: once buyers have received the cheaper-looking jar, going back does not unsee it. How to test whether buyers notice is the jar-perception test; the margin against the branding risk is the ₹30-cheaper jar decision.

Argued against our own interest: the big change is our jar, and it is the one we put last. A ₹41.30 saving that costs repeat customers is not a saving. If your matte-jar candle sells well, try the smaller, less visible changes first, and look for a similar matte jar before you move to clear glass, even if the similar jar is not ours.

Expected value and the chance of reaching ₹50.00

The plan with the biggest headline is not the plan most likely to deliver.
Three plans compared · expected saving and the chance of reaching each threshold
Expected = Σ saving × chance · thresholds from the exact combinations of pass/fail · chances are labelled judgement; change them and the method still holds
Plan Maximum Expected per candle Chance ≥ ₹40.00 Chance ≥ ₹50.00 Test cost
One big jar change ₹41.30 ₹20.65 50.0% none ₹3,717.02
Four smaller changes ₹50.00 ₹33.00 34.4% 21.4% ₹6,483.60
Hybrid: oil + waste + box + big jar ₹71.30 ₹41.65 50.0% 44.0% ₹8,099.18

Three things stand out. The big change has the best chance of a decent result (50.0% of at least ₹40.00) and no chance of the target. The four smaller changes have the higher expected value (₹33.00 against ₹20.65) because they diversify: the chance that all four fail is only 0.72%, but the chance that all four pass is just 21.4%. The hybrid, swapping the small jar change for the big one, raises the chance of ₹50.00 to 44.0%: the big jar plus the oil or the waste saving is enough, while the big jar plus only the box, ₹49.30, falls just short.

Fragrance load ₹12.00 60% ₹7.20
Rejects and waste ₹10.00 70% ₹7.00
Simpler box ₹8.00 85% ₹6.80
Similar matte jar ₹20.00 60% ₹12.00
Matte → clear Salsa ₹41.30 50% ₹20.65
Where the probabilities come from
They are judgement for this worked candle, labelled as such: a box and a process fix pass more often than a load cut, and a load cut more often than a visible jar change. Use your own. If you have run load ladders before and 8% usually holds for your oils, raise that chance; if your buyers are gift purchasers who judge by the jar, lower the jar chances. The method, saving × chance, summed across independent tests, does not change.

The four-equal-savings version of this question, ₹10.00 from each of four lines against one big change of the same total, is the ₹10 × 4 post; it scores risk and effort when the totals match. Here the totals do not match, which is the usual case: the big change rarely equals the target, and the small ones rarely all pass.

The staged plan: decide the jar last

Order is a lever too. Run the tests that tell you how much is still missing before the one you cannot undo.
1
Month 1 · run the three invisible or reversible testsRejects (process trial), box (six parcels) and the load ladder, each against a control. Together they can give ₹30.00; the chance all three pass is about 35.7%.
2
Month 2 · count what passedBook only passed changes, on saleable candles. Write down what is still missing from the ₹50.00.
3
If all three passed (₹20.00 missing)Test the similar matte jar (₹20.00). It keeps the look. If it fails, the clear Salsa (₹41.30) is the fallback and overshoots the target.
4
If one or two failedOnly the big jar can close the gap, and only if the oil or the waste saving passed (88.0% chance). Now the visible change is justified by numbers, not by hope.
5
If oil and waste both failedStop chasing materials. The remaining gap is a price, fill or range decision; the box alone plus the big jar does not reach the target.
6
Either way · one batch, then the rangeSell one batch with the new jar, watch returns and reviews, then switch. Record every change on the form.

On the labelled probabilities this staged plan reaches ₹50.00 with about a 54.7% chance: higher than committing to the hybrid up front (44.0%), and it only puts the clear jar in front of customers when the numbers say there is no quieter route. It also spends less on tests when early results are good: if the three invisible changes pass and the similar matte jar passes, the big-jar test, ₹3,717.02 with its 50-pack, never happens.

Mistake: running all five tests in one batch to save time. Why it fails: if throw drops or returns rise you cannot tell which change did it, so you undo all of them, and you have shown buyers the clear jar for nothing. Fix: one change per trial, each against a control; overlap only tests that cannot affect each other (a box test and a load ladder can run in the same weeks). How to keep a cost-down trial clean is the one-change-at-a-time post; how deep each kind of change must be tested is the risk-tiered validation post.

Four smaller changes ₹1,80,000.00 ₹1,12,316.40
One big jar change ₹1,48,680.00 ₹70,622.98
Hybrid ₹2,56,680.00 ₹1,41,840.82

The hybrid has the highest expected first-year value, ₹1,41,840.82, but it carries the visible jar change in every scenario. The staged plan keeps most of that value and drops the visible change whenever the quieter route works. A note on timing: these are full-year figures; savings start only when each test passes, so the first year books less. Spreading the start dates across months is the subject of the four-saving gross-profit post.

Test the load as the method series lays out (testing cheaper alternatives without risking a bestseller); a jar change retests wick and heat even with the same wax and oil (the jar-change retest post).

When one big change is the right call: when it is invisible (a cheaper tier of the same jar, the same oil in a bigger bottle), when the small candidates have already been taken, or when you are launching a new, cheaper line where no existing buyer sees a change. Then one test, one decision, and the visibility argument does not apply. Setting the per-line targets in the first place is the cluster hub on target costing.

jar · the one big change · the only 200 ml jar with a pack saving
200ml Salsa Glass Jar with 63mm Lug Cap (Golden Lid)
The ₹41.30 option: ₹29.50 a jar in 50s against ₹70.80 for the matte jar, the same 200 ml rating. In 5s the gap is only ₹30.68, so the saving depends on buying 50. The page states "The 200ml capacity" and no dimensions, and describes the jar as "Upcycled and ready to be reborn"; ask us about condition and size first. Limitation: clear glass with a golden lug cap looks nothing like matte, so this is the most visible change on the page and the one most likely to fail its buyer test.

White Matte Glass Jar
The page states "a fill weight of 200 ml", "Height 8 cm width 7 cm" and that its durability "allows it to withstand high heat" (general wording, not a figure). It lists no lid in the text we captured. Every matte, frosted and glossy 200 ml jar CSI lists is ₹70.80 a jar at 5 or 10, so a bigger pack saves nothing. Argued against our own interest: if your candle is in this jar and sells, the cheapest jar change is not ours: a similar matte jar from another supplier (the worked ₹50.80) keeps the look.

Moving from 50 g bottles to the 1 kg saves ₹11.03 a candle at 12.8 g, ₹13.79 at 16 g, with no change to the candle. Limitation: it only helps if you are already on this oil and on small bottles.

The CSI principle
Spread the target across changes you can test and undo. Keep the visible one in reserve.
On the worked candle the big jar change can never reach ₹50.00 alone; a staged plan reaches it with about a 54.7% chance and shows buyers a new jar only when nothing quieter will do.
"Run the cheap tests first. They tell you whether you need the expensive one."

Why trust this guide

CandleMakingSuppliesIndia sells the jars, wicks, oils and tools named here, and does not sell finished candles. This page still puts our own cheapest 200 ml jar last in the plan, tells you that a similar matte jar from another supplier may be the better change, and says that our matte jars are flat-priced, so a bigger pack saves nothing.

Every CSI price was checked on the live store on 4 October 2026, per pack. The Eco C1 10-pack and the Candle Making Weighing Scale are out of stock on that date and are flagged where they appear; every other item shown is in stock. Product wording is quoted from the pages; where a page is silent in the text we captured (Salsa dimensions, matte-jar lid, thermometer range), we say so.

The oil and wax prices, the box and jar quotes, the 6% reject rate, the ₹10.00 waste estimate, the 160 g fill, the success probabilities, 300 candles a month, ₹150.00 an hour and the courier rate are labelled worked examples or judgement; which changes pass is your tests' answer, not ours. This is practical business judgement, not financial, tax or legal advice. For bulk pricing, GST invoicing, and MSDS and IFRA documentation on request, message us on WhatsApp at +91 7397976926.

Frequently asked questions

Is it better to make one big cost cut or several small ones?
Usually several small ones, run in order, with the big change held in reserve. On a worked candle four smaller changes had an expected value of ₹33.00 against ₹20.65 for one big jar change, and the big change could never reach the ₹50.00 target alone.
How do I calculate the expected saving from a cost-reduction change?
Multiply the saving by your honest chance that it passes its test, then add across changes that can pass or fail independently. For example, ₹41.30 at a 50% chance is ₹20.65; ₹12.00 at 60% is ₹7.20.
Should I change my candle jar to save money?
Last, unless the change is invisible. Moving from a ₹70.80 matte jar to the clear 200 ml Salsa saves ₹41.30 in 50s but is the most visible and least reversible change a candle can make. Test cheaper invisible changes first, and look for a similar-looking jar before a different one.
Which cost savings are easiest to reverse?
Process and purchasing changes (reject reduction, bigger bottles of the same oil), then packaging (the next box order), then the fragrance load (the next batch). Jar changes are the hardest: buyers have already seen the new jar.
Can I test several cost changes at the same time?
Only if they cannot affect each other, such as a box test alongside a load ladder. Never test two changes in the same candle at once, or you cannot tell which one caused a problem.
What if my cost-reduction tests only find part of the saving?
Book what passed, then decide the rest with numbers: a visible change you now know you need, a price change, or a smaller or new SKU. Do not make up the gap with a lower load than tested or a smaller wick.
₹50.00 out of the candle
Run the cheap, reversible changes first. Let their results decide whether the visible one is needed.
On the worked candle a staged plan reaches ₹50.00 with about a 54.7% chance and keeps the matte jar unless nothing quieter works. Ask us on WhatsApp about the Salsa jar's condition and fill before you plan a test around it.

It compares one ₹50.00 saving with several smaller ones as a portfolio: value, chance of passing, test cost, visibility and reversibility per change; expected values and exact threshold probabilities for three plans; a staged plan that decides the jar last; and first-year value net of tests.

Customer reviews: The six reviews at the top of this page are genuine, published Judge.me reviews left by CSI customers on the product pages named on each card — Black Matte Glass Jar, Lavender Fragrance Oil, Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 (Flakes Form) For Container Candles, Luxury Soy Wax Chunks for Jar / Container Candles, White Matte Glass Jar, Woody Oud Fragrance Oil. They are general product reviews, not assessments of the cost-reduction advice on this page. Names, star ratings, dates and products are as recorded by Judge.me and wording is unedited. "Verified buyer" appears only on reviews Judge.me recorded as verified — Tina Lynette Lazaro Moganti, Renam Dhoundiyal, Akansha, Kaushiki Satarkar, Thenirvaofficial. The reviews from Ashwini are published but not recorded as verified, and carry no badge. Reviews below five stars are included as published, not filtered out.

The candle (160 g fill in a 200 ml jar at 10%: 16.0 g oil + 144.0 g wax; at 8%: 12.8 g + 147.2 g), your oil at ₹4,250.00 per kg, wax at ₹500.00 per kg, printed box ₹28.00 and the ₹20.00 simpler box, label ₹3.50, the ₹50.80 second-supplier jar, 6% rejects, the ₹10.00 waste estimate, the success probabilities (60%, 70%, 85%, 60%, 50%), 300 candles a month, ₹150.00 an hour and ₹80.00 a parcel are worked examples or judgement, not CSI prices and not claims about any supplier. Probabilities are combined as independent events. Lavender's 50 g to 1 kg step saves ₹2.86 on 16 g, for comparison. Costs are materials only and exclude labour (except in test costs), freight, GST and marketing. Diwali 8 November 2026 is a calendar fact.
