Strong fragrance · bergamot
CSI has no bergamot-only oil. Bergamot Amber already carries amber and a woody musk base, so the real question is which modifier makes it read as perfume.
80:20
a suggested Bergamot Amber to modifier ratio for the first round
Quick answers — read this first
Does CSI sell a bergamot-only oil? No. The nearest is Bergamot Amber: bergamot and citrus on top, amber with a soft floral heart, woody musk and vanilla base. White Royal Oud and Royal Oud also open on bergamot.

Woody, floral or amber? Amber is already in Bergamot Amber. Test a woody modifier (Vetiver or Sandalwood) and a floral one (Jasmine) at 80:20 against the oil alone.

Does load change the character? Yes, per its page: at 6% bergamot leads, at 8% it is balanced, at 10% amber comes forward and the vanilla and musk base grows.

What does a blend cost per candle? Between ₹252.20 and ₹258.21 for a 200 g candle at 8% in CSI 464, depending on the modifier, packaging excluded.
The short answer
Base oil: Bergamot Amber, soy 6–10%, paraffin 6–8%, with a published intensity guide by load.
Modifiers: Vetiver (woody, builds slowly), Sandalwood (creamy wood, 0% vanillin), Jasmine (white floral, 0% vanillin).
Grams: 200 g at 8% = 16 g: 12.8 g Bergamot Amber + 3.2 g modifier.

Straight answer
I Want a Bergamot Candle With an Expensive Perfume-Like Character Rather Than a Basic Citrus Smell — Should I Blend It With Woody, Floral or Amber Notes?
Start from Bergamot Amber, because CSI stocks no bergamot-only oil and this one already contains the amber direction. First pour it alone at 6%, 8% and 10%; its page says bergamot leads at 6%, the blend is balanced at 8%, and amber and the vanilla-musk base come forward at 10%. Then test two modifiers at 80:20 and an 8% total load: a woody one (Vetiver or Sandalwood) for a dry, polished base, and a floral one (Jasmine) for lift. In a 200 g candle that is 12.8 g Bergamot Amber plus 3.2 g modifier. Choose the version that smells most like a finished perfume in the room, not on the strip.
One line: test Bergamot Amber's own load ladder first, then a woody and a floral modifier at 80:20, and pick in the room.
Bergamot Amber publishes how its character shifts from 6% to 10%, which makes it a rare oil you can tune by load alone.

Start from what CSI actually stocks

A perfume-like bergamot is not about more citrus; it is about what the citrus sits on.

A basic bergamot candle smells like a fresh citrus that fades. A perfume-like one smells finished: bright at the top, with a heart and base that make the bergamot feel deliberate. CSI does not stock a bergamot-only oil, so you are not building from a single raw note. You are starting from Bergamot Amber, which lists bergamot and citrus on top, amber with a soft floral in the heart, and woody musk and vanilla in the base. It states 6–10% in soy and 6–8% in paraffin.

That matters for the question you asked. Amber is already present. So the useful test is whether you add woody depth, floral lift, or simply let the amber carry it by adjusting the load.

It helps to say what 'perfume-like' means in a candle, because it is a vague brief until you pin it down. Usually it means three things: the scent has more than one clear layer, it changes a little as the candle burns rather than staying flat, and no single note, especially the sweet one, dominates. Write those three tests down and judge every candle against them, rather than against a general sense of which one smells nicer.

Two other CSI oils open on bergamot: White Royal Oud (bergamot and saffron over oud, rose petals and labdanum) and Royal Oud (bergamot and pink pepper over oud, rose and cedarwood). If your perfume idea is bergamot over oud, those are a different, darker route worth a separate test.

Test the load ladder before any blend

Bergamot Amber is unusual because its page publishes an intensity guide: at 6% bergamot leads, at 8% the profile is balanced, and at 10% amber comes forward and the vanilla and musk base becomes more prominent. That gives you a free first experiment: three candles of the same oil at three loads.

Load ladder
Bergamot Amber alone, 200 g candle, CSI 464
Load Oil Wax Page's description What to listen for
6% 12 g 188 g Bergamot leads Is it fresh or thin?
8% 16 g 184 g Balanced Does it feel finished?
10% 20 g 180 g Amber forward; vanilla and musk grow Rich, or too sweet?

If the 8% or 10% candle already smells like a perfume to you, stop there. A blend adds weighing steps, a second oil to stock and a second supply risk. Only move on if all three loads feel like citrus with something missing underneath.

Three modifier directions at 80:20

For the blend round, keep the total load at 8% and replace a fifth of the oil with a modifier. In a 200 g candle that is 16 g of oil, split as 16 × 0.80 = 12.8 g Bergamot Amber and 16 × 0.20 = 3.2 g modifier. The 80:20 ratio is a suggested starting point: enough to shift the character, not enough to bury the bergamot.

Modifier options
All at 8% total, 80:20
Direction Modifier Why it might work Note from the page
Woody, dry Vetiver Earthy, dry base that can make citrus feel tailored Flashpoint 206°C; builds slowly, allow full cure
Woody, creamy Sandalwood Soft wood that rounds the edges Flashpoint 203°C; 0% vanillin; up to 10% soy
Floral Jasmine White floral lift over the bergamot Flashpoint 185°C; 0% vanillin; up to 10% soy
Amber None added Already in Bergamot Amber's heart Use the 10% candle from the ladder instead

There is a reason amber has no separate modifier: CSI stocks no amber-only oil, and the amber in Bergamot Amber is already the amber direction. The 10% ladder candle is your amber test.

Why stop at 20%? A modifier at a fifth of the oil is enough to change the character of the base without pushing Bergamot Amber below the point where its bergamot top can still lead. If 80:20 feels too subtle after cure, try 70:30 in a second round; if it buries the bergamot, go to 90:10. Each step is a suggested starting point, and each should be judged burning, after a full cure.

Neroli is a floral with a catch
If you want an orange-blossom lift instead of jasmine, Neroli is an option, but its published flashpoint is 85°C. Add it only once the wax has cooled below that, checked with a separate thermometer.

Running the blend round

1
Pre-blendWeigh 12.8 g Bergamot Amber and 3.2 g modifier into a small labelled bottle for each candle, or a larger master blend if you plan more than one candle per version. Stir or shake well.
2
Strip checkDip a strip in each pre-blend, smell at once and again after two hours. Smell only; keep oils away from your mouth.
3
PourAdd each blend to cooled CSI 464 well below the lowest flashpoint involved, with the melter never at its maximum, and pour into labelled jars.
4
CureAt least 48–72 h, as the soy pages state. Give the Vetiver version longer, since its page says it builds slowly, and re-check every candle around day 7 as a suggested starting point.
5
Burn and compareSame room, same burn period, one candle at a time. Never leave a test candle unattended, and stop any test that smokes or flares.

Wick every candle on Eco C1 in the first round so the oils are the only variable. Once a version wins, re-pour it on Eco C2 to see whether a slightly wider pool improves it.

Judge blind if you can. Number the jars on the base, ask someone else to light them in turn, and score each one against your three perfume tests before you look at the number. A blend you mixed yourself always smells a little better to you than it does to a stranger.

The bergamot disappears in the blend. Move the ratio to 90:10, or drop the total load to 6% so the page's 'bergamot leads' character returns.

Cost per candle for each version

Oil per gram: Bergamot Amber ₹5,437.00 ÷ 1,000 = ₹5.437; Sandalwood ₹5.0268; Jasmine ₹3.923. Vetiver's 1 kg pack is out of stock, so price it from the 500 g: ₹2,900.00 ÷ 500 = ₹5.80 per gram. The fixed lines are 184 g CSI 464 at ₹93.36, a matte 200 ml jar at ₹70.80 and Eco C1 at ₹5.90, which is ₹170.06.

Cost build-up
200 g candle at 8%
Version Bergamot Amber Modifier Oil total Candle total
Bergamot Amber alone 16 g = ₹86.99 none ₹86.99 ₹257.05
+ Vetiver 80:20 12.8 g = ₹69.59 3.2 g × ₹5.80 = ₹18.56 ₹88.15 ₹258.21
+ Sandalwood 80:20 ₹69.59 3.2 g × ₹5.0268 = ₹16.09 ₹85.68 ₹255.74
+ Jasmine 80:20 ₹69.59 3.2 g × ₹3.923 = ₹12.55 ₹82.14 ₹252.20

The ladder ends cost differently: 6% alone is ₹237.33 (188 g wax ₹95.39 + 12 g oil ₹65.24 + ₹76.70) and 10% alone is ₹276.77 (180 g wax ₹91.33 + 20 g oil ₹108.74 + ₹76.70). The blends all sit within about ₹6 of each other, so the decision is about smell, not price. The figures exclude your packaging, labels, labour, shipping and GST.

Buy this to test, buy this once validated

The ladder uses 12 + 16 + 20 = 48 g of Bergamot Amber and the three blends use 3 × 12.8 = 38.4 g, so buy the 100 g pack at ₹560.00. Each modifier needs only 3.2 g: Vetiver 15 g ₹187.62, Sandalwood 15 g ₹93.22 and Jasmine 15 g ₹103.00. Six candles use 188 + 184 + 180 + 3 × 184 = 1,104 g of wax, so CSI 464 1 kg ₹507.40 plus 500 g ₹260.00, leaving enough for one Eco C2 re-pour. Add ten matte 200 ml jars ₹708.00, Eco C1 20 wicks ₹118.00 and Eco C2 10 wicks ₹94.40. The test set is ₹2,631.64.

Once validated: 50 candles of an 80:20 blend at 8% need 50 × 12.8 g = 640 g of Bergamot Amber (a 1 kg pack at ₹5,437.00, or 500 g at ₹2,718.00 plus 100 g and 50 g) and 50 × 3.2 g = 160 g of the modifier, which for Sandalwood means the 500 g at ₹2,513.40 because its 50 g and 100 g are out of stock. If the oil alone won, the shopping list is one oil and nothing more.

Argue against interest
The best blend may be no blend.
If Bergamot Amber at 8% or 10% already reads as perfume, a second oil only adds cost, weighing and stock risk. Test the ladder before you spend on modifiers.
A perfume-like bergamot is about what the citrus sits on.

Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials and production equipment, not finished candles. This guide separates general candle-making practice from what CSI's own product pages state, says plainly where CSI publishes no figure (wick sizes, burn times, hardness), and labels every wick, load, test count or margin as a starting point for your own validation.

Prices are live CSI prices from October 2026; product pages are authoritative. Where a spec is not published — such as a wick size for your jar, a mould's cycle life or a wax's survival temperature — this guide says so rather than filling the gap.

Frequently asked questions

How do I make a bergamot candle smell more expensive?
Give the citrus a structured base. Start from Bergamot Amber, test it at 6%, 8% and 10%, then try woody (Vetiver or Sandalwood) and floral (Jasmine) modifiers at 80:20 and judge them burning.
Does CSI sell pure bergamot fragrance oil?
No bergamot-only oil is stocked. Bergamot Amber is the nearest, with bergamot and citrus on top. White Royal Oud and Royal Oud open on bergamot over oud, which gives a darker, woodier direction to test separately.
What should I blend bergamot with in a candle?
There is no single answer. Woody notes tend to make it drier and more tailored, florals add lift, and amber adds warmth. Bergamot Amber already contains amber, so test woody and floral modifiers against it.
Does fragrance load change how Bergamot Amber smells?
Its page says so: bergamot leads at 6%, the profile is balanced at 8%, and amber and the vanilla-musk base come forward at 10%. Pour all three before blending, because one of them may already meet your brief.
How many grams of each oil for an 80:20 blend at 8%?
A 200 g candle at 8% holds 16 g of oil: 16 × 0.80 = 12.8 g Bergamot Amber and 16 × 0.20 = 3.2 g modifier, with 184 g of wax. Mix the two oils before adding them to the wax.
How long should a vetiver blend cure?
Soy pages state 48–72 h before testing, and Vetiver's page says it builds slowly and needs a full cure. As a suggested starting point, judge it again around day 7.
