I Want to Buy 10 Kg of Lavender Fragrance Oil for Candle Production — What Shelf-Life and Storage Information Should I Request Before Ordering?
Aktie
What does 10 kg of Lavender cost? No pack above 1 kg is listed, so 10 kg is ten 1 kg packs: 10 × ₹5,221.00 = ₹52,210.00. Any larger-quantity price is a WhatsApp quote, not a published discount.
How many candles does 10 kg make? At 8% of a 200 g candle you use 16 g of oil, so 10,000 g ÷ 16 g = 625 candles.
How long will 10 kg last me? Divide by your monthly use. At 400 candles a month it is about 1.56 months of cover; at 150 candles a month it is about 4.17 months.
Why 10 kg is a storage decision as much as a price decision
Lavender is a sensible oil to buy in quantity. The product page describes a single-note lavender with a fresh lavender top, a herbal green middle and a soft musk base, rates it "Strong" (the page's own rating, not a measured figure) and gives a candle load of 6–10%. One verified buyer, Priyanka Purohit, wrote: "Quality of fragrance is very good. Cold through and hot though both are perfect." None of that tells you how the oil behaves in your store room in month four.
The fresh top of a lavender is generally the part most likely to recede first during storage, because lighter, more volatile materials evaporate and oxidise more readily than heavier musky ones. That is a general principle, not CSI data. It means a 10 kg order carries a risk that grows with the time it spends opened and part-used in a warm room.
So treat the order as two questions. What does the supplier say, in writing, about storing this oil? And how many months will your 10 kg actually take to use?
The information to request before you pay
CSI states on its product pages that the oils are IFRA certified and that IFRA and MSDS documents are available on WhatsApp request at +91 7397976926. The pages do not publish a shelf life, a best-before period, a storage temperature or any ageing data for any oil. Ask for the following before ordering, and keep the replies with your batch records.
| Item to request | Why you need it | What a useful answer looks like |
|---|---|---|
| IFRA certificate for Lavender | Confirms the use category and maximum level that applies to candles | A dated document naming the product |
| MSDS (safety data sheet) | Handling, storage and fire-safety information, including flashpoint if stated | Current revision with a date you can file |
| Lot or batch number | Lets you tie every candle back to the oil it was made from | One number per pack, or confirmation that all ten packs share a lot |
| Storage guidance for this oil | The page publishes none; you need the supplier's own advice | Written conditions in plain words, not a phone remark |
| Shelf-life or retest guidance | Tells you when to re-check the oil before use | A written statement for this oil and lot, or a clear "not stated" |
| Container description | The page does not say how oils are packed | What the 1 kg pack is made of and how it is sealed |
| Same-lot availability | Ten packs from two lots means two qualifications | A yes or no before dispatch |
If any answer is "not available", write that down too. A blank is information: it tells you the shelf life you set will have to come entirely from your own testing.
Work out your months of cover
The figure that decides whether 10 kg is sensible is not the price. It is how long the oil will sit before the last gram goes into a candle.
At 8% of total candle weight, a 200 g candle is 184 g wax plus 16 g oil. So oil per month = candles per month × 16 g.
Three makers, one order
Maker A pours 400 candles a month: 400 × 16 g = 6,400 g, so 6.4 kg a month. 10 kg ÷ 6.4 kg = 1.56 months of cover.
Maker B pours 150 candles a month: 150 × 16 g = 2,400 g, so 2.4 kg a month. 10 kg ÷ 2.4 kg = 4.17 months.
Maker C pours 80 candles a month: 80 × 16 g = 1,280 g, so 1.28 kg a month. 10 kg ÷ 1.28 kg = 7.81 months.
Maker A will finish the order before most storage questions arise. Maker C will be pouring from an opened pack more than seven months after delivery. If Maker C has never tested Lavender candles made from oil that old, 10 kg is a guess, not a plan.
What the 10 kg actually costs — and what bulk does not buy you
No Lavender pack above 1 kg is listed. Ten kilograms is ten 1 kg packs at the listed price: 10 × ₹5,221.00 = ₹52,210.00. If you want a quote for a larger quantity, ask on WhatsApp; do not assume a discount exists.
The per-gram maths is simple. 1 kg at ₹5,221.00 is ₹5.221 per g. The 100 g pack at ₹540.00 is ₹5.40 per g. The 500 g pack at ₹2,620.00 is ₹5.24 per g. Oil cost per candle at 16 g is 16 × ₹5.221 = ₹83.54.
Now look at the 500 g option. Twenty 500 g packs cost 20 × ₹2,620.00 = ₹52,400.00. The difference is ₹52,400.00 − ₹52,210.00 = ₹190.00 across the whole 10 kg. For a slow user, that ₹190.00 buys twenty smaller sealed packs, each opened only when needed, instead of ten larger ones that spend longer part-full. Less time opened generally means less exposure to air. Whether it matters for your Lavender is something your own storage test answers, but the cost of keeping the option open is small.
| Pack | Packs needed | Total | Per gram |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 kg at ₹5,221.00 | 10 | ₹52,210.00 | ₹5.221 |
| 500 g at ₹2,620.00 | 20 | ₹52,400.00 | ₹5.24 |
| 100 g at ₹540.00 | 100 | ₹54,000.00 | ₹5.40 |
Store it so the first and last kilogram match
General good practice for fragrance oils, whatever the supplier says about a specific lot:
If an oil looks cloudy after cool storage, warm the closed bottle in warm water, mix it thoroughly and check again. If it separates, forms sediment or smells sour or sharp, quarantine it and ask the supplier. Never warm oil over a flame, in a kitchen oven or in a microwave.
The ordering decision
Write down three numbers: your monthly oil use, the number of months you have tested Lavender candles in your own storage, and any shelf-life guidance the supplier has given in writing. Your order should cover no more than the shortest of those time spans multiplied by your monthly use, minus the stock you already hold.
If you have tested to month three and use 2.4 kg a month, that is 3 × 2.4 kg = 7.2 kg, so seven or eight packs, not ten. If you use 6.4 kg a month, 10 kg is comfortably inside your tested window. Do not buy 10 kg of an oil you will take seven months to use until you have tested it at month seven — and never promise customers that a candle will smell exactly the same months after you made it.

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials and production equipment, not finished candles. This guide separates general fragrance-ageing practice from what CSI's own product pages state, says plainly that CSI's oil pages publish no shelf life, storage temperature or ageing data, treats the 60-month shelf life on the CSI 464 and 468 pages as a wax statement only, and labels every test day, cabinet temperature, candle count, reject rate or lead time as a starting point or the reader's own figure.
Prices are live CSI prices from October 2026; product pages are authoritative. No fragrance-oil pack above 1 kg is listed, so larger quantities are shown as multiples of the 1 kg price; ask for a quote rather than assuming a discount.

CSI fragrance-oil pages publish no shelf life, storage temperature or ageing data; the 60-month shelf life on the CSI 464 and 468 pages refers to the wax. Accelerated heat or cycling tests compare options and do not predict an exact shelf life. Every test day, temperature, candle count, reject rate, lead time and cost of money is a suggested starting point or the reader's own figure.
