Convert 500 candles into grams, then buy fragrance in the packs that fit and everything else in the packs that fit your shelf.
₹107,070.60
example monthly raw-material order for 500 candles in five fragrances
Quick answers — read this first
How much wax do 500 candles need? In this mix of 350 × 200 g and 150 × 120 g at 8%, 80.96 kg of CSI 464. Your own fill weights and loss allowance change it.

Is the 10 kg wax pack cheaper than 1 kg? For CSI 464, no: ₹0.5074 per gram at 1 kg, 5 kg and 10 kg. Only the 500 g pack costs more, at ₹0.520 per gram.

Which pack size of fragrance should I buy? Match packs to monthly use. At 1,408 g per fragrance, 1 kg + 500 g leaves 92 g over and costs less than two 1 kg packs.

Do jars or wicks get cheaper in bigger packs? Not for the lines here. Matte jars are ₹70.80, shiny 120 g jars ₹47.20, Eco C1 ₹5.90 and Eco C2 ₹9.44 each at every listed pack.
The short answer
Monthly wax: 80.96 kg CSI 464: 8 × 10 kg + 1 × 1 kg = ₹41,099.40.
Monthly oil: Five fragrances × 1,408 g; 1 kg + 500 g each, ₹29,922.20 in total.
Pack rule: Only fragrance oil steps meaningfully in price at this volume.

Wax and jars are the largest lines by value, but fragrance is the only one where larger packs lower the unit price.
Straight answer
I Want to Make 500 Candles a Month — What Pack Sizes of Wax, Fragrance, Wicks and Jars Should I Buy Once My Formulations Are Validated?
Work out grams first, then choose packs by how each price steps. For an example month of 350 × 200 g and 150 × 120 g candles at 8% in five fragrances, you need 80.96 kg of CSI 464 and 1,408 g of each oil. CSI 464, the matte and shiny jars and Eco C1/C2 wicks cost the same per unit at every listed pack, so buy those for storage and convenience. Fragrance is where pack size saves money: 1 kg + 500 g per oil fits 1,408 g with 92 g over. The full order costs ₹107,070.60 before packaging, labour, shipping and GST.
One line: at 500 candles a month, buy fragrance oil in the packs that fit your usage and everything else in the packs that fit your storage.
Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 costs ₹0.5074 per gram from 1 kg to 10 kg, so pack size is a storage choice, not a price one.

Turn 500 candles into grams before you think about packs

Pack sizes are a cash-flow decision first and a price decision second, and for several CSI products the price does not change at all.

Once your formulas are validated, buying for 500 candles a month stops being about experiments and becomes arithmetic. The mistake at this stage is to buy the biggest pack of everything on the assumption that bigger is always cheaper. On the CSI store that is true for some materials, untrue for others, and exactly neutral for several. The right pack size for each line depends on how its price steps, how fast you use it and how much storage and cash you want tied up.

This page uses a mixed range because most 500-a-month makers do not sell one product. The example month is 350 candles of 200 g in the matte 200 ml glass jar and 150 candles of 120 g in the shiny 120 g glass jar (6 cm diameter per its page), across five fragrances in equal share. Every candle is at 8% of total candle weight, and the wick choices are assumed to have come out of your own validation tests. Your mix will differ; swap your numbers into the same steps.

Monthly quantities, worked out

1
Grams per candle.200 g at 8% = 184 g wax + 16 g oil. 120 g at 8% = 110.4 g wax + 9.6 g oil.
2
Candles per fragrance.500 ÷ 5 = 100 per fragrance: 70 of the 200 g size and 30 of the 120 g size.
3
Oil per fragrance.70 × 16 g + 30 × 9.6 g = 1,120 g + 288 g = 1,408 g a month.
4
Wax per fragrance.70 × 184 g + 30 × 110.4 g = 12,880 g + 3,312 g = 16,192 g.
5
Wax for the month.16,192 g × 5 = 80,960 g, or 80.96 kg of Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464.
6
Containers and wicks.350 matte jars, 150 shiny 120 g jars, and one wick per candle in whichever type each size passed with.

These are the net quantities. Many makers add a small allowance for spills, a test pour from each new batch and the odd rejected candle. Five percent is a suggested starting point, but measure your own losses over two or three months and use that figure instead.

How each CSI price steps with pack size

Before choosing packs, look at what you actually save per unit as packs get larger. The table compares the smallest and largest listed packs per unit for the lines in this plan.

Price steps
Per-unit cost at the smallest and largest listed pack
Material Smallest pack Largest pack Does a bigger pack save money?
CSI 464 500 g ₹260.00 = ₹0.520 per g 10 kg ₹5,074.00 = ₹0.5074 per g Only versus 500 g; 1 kg, 5 kg and 10 kg are identical per kg
British Rose 15 g ₹94.40 = ₹6.293 per g 1 kg ₹3,068.00 = ₹3.068 per g Yes, strongly up to 1 kg
Woody Oud 15 g ₹93.22 1 kg ₹4,531.20 Yes versus 15 g and 50 g; 100 g and 1 kg are the same per gram
Matte 200 ml jar 5 for ₹354.00 10 for ₹708.00 No, ₹70.80 each either way
Shiny 120 g jar 1 for ₹47.20 5 for ₹236.00 No, ₹47.20 each either way
Eco C1 wick 20 for ₹118.00 1,000 for ₹5,900.00 No, ₹5.90 each at every pack
Eco C2 wick 10 for ₹94.40 100 for ₹944.00 No, ₹9.44 each

So for 500 a month, the only line where pack size changes your cost meaningfully is fragrance oil. For wax, jars and wicks you choose packs for handling, storage and how often you want to reorder, not for a discount, because there is no discount in the listed prices. Larger wax quantities beyond 10 kg are quoted on WhatsApp (+91 7397976926); ask, but do not plan your margin around a price you have not been given.

The monthly order, line by line

The five fragrances in this example are Lavender, British Rose, Roasted Coffee, Citrus Lemon and Sandalwood. Each needs 1,408 g a month. The nearest combination of listed packs is 1 kg + 500 g = 1,500 g, which leaves 92 g over. Two 1 kg packs would leave 592 g over and cost more, so 1 kg + 500 g is the better fit for this volume.

Monthly order
500 candles: 350 × 200 g matte, 150 × 120 g shiny, five fragrances at 8%
Line Need Packs Cost
CSI 464 wax 80.96 kg 8 × 10 kg + 1 × 1 kg ₹40,592.00 + ₹507.40 = ₹41,099.40
Lavender 1,408 g 1 kg + 500 g ₹5,221.00 + ₹2,620.00 = ₹7,841.00
British Rose 1,408 g 1 kg + 500 g ₹3,068.00 + ₹1,593.00 = ₹4,661.00
Roasted Coffee 1,408 g 1 kg + 500 g ₹3,738.00 + ₹1,890.00 = ₹5,628.00
Citrus Lemon 1,408 g 1 kg + 500 g ₹2,832.00 + ₹1,420.00 = ₹4,252.00
Sandalwood 1,408 g 1 kg + 500 g ₹5,026.80 + ₹2,513.40 = ₹7,540.20
Matte 200 ml jars 350 35 × pack of 10 ₹24,780.00
Shiny 120 g jars 150 30 × pack of 5 ₹7,080.00
Eco C1 wicks (120 g size) 150 100 + 50 ₹590.00 + ₹295.00 = ₹885.00
Eco C2 wicks (200 g size) 350 3 × 100 + 50 ₹2,832.00 + ₹472.00 = ₹3,304.00

The month comes to ₹107,070.60 in raw materials before packaging, labour, shipping and GST. Fragrance is ₹29,922.20 of that, wax ₹41,099.40, jars ₹31,860.00 and wicks ₹4,189.00. The wick assignment here (C1 for the 6 cm jar, C2 for the 200 ml jar) is only an illustration of what your tests might have approved; CSI publishes no wick sizing chart, so use whatever wick each size and fragrance actually passed with.

Check one candle against the total
A 200 g Lavender candle costs ₹93.36 wax + ₹83.54 oil + ₹70.80 jar + ₹9.44 Eco C2 = ₹257.04. A 120 g Citrus Lemon candle costs 110.4 g × ₹0.5074 = ₹56.02 wax, 9.6 g × ₹2.832 = ₹27.19 oil, ₹47.20 jar and ₹5.90 wick, or ₹136.31. Spot checks like this catch a wrong pack price before it reaches your order.

Order rhythm, storage and when to change packs

Fragrance: order monthly, in the packs that fit

Fragrance is the line where pack size saves money and where leftovers accumulate. At 1,408 g a month, 1 kg + 500 g fits almost exactly. If one fragrance sells faster, say 2,000 g a month, two 1 kg packs fit better. Keep oils sealed, cool and out of sunlight, and note each batch on your production log so a scent change can be traced.

Wax: buy for the space you have

CSI 464 states a 60-month shelf life in cool, dry storage, so a two-month stock of wax is not a quality risk. Because the per-kg price is flat from 1 kg upwards, the only reasons to buy more at once are fewer orders and less chance of running out. Buy what fits on a dry shelf away from heat.

Jars and wicks: buy to production, plus a margin

Jars and wicks have no pack discount, so order what the month needs plus a small buffer for breakage and rejects. Remove any cracked or chipped jar from production rather than trying to use it. The matte jar page notes that some colours go out of stock, so if your range depends on one colour, keep a modest reserve.

Buying wax in 500 g packs to save cash. At ₹0.520 per gram, 80.96 kg in 500 g packs would cost about ₹1,020.10 more a month than 1 kg or larger packs (80,960 g × ₹0.0126). It is the one wax pack to avoid at this volume.

What to confirm before your first 500-candle month

Validated means each fragrance has passed in its own jar size with its own wick, not just one of them. Before placing the order above, confirm the five points below. If any is missing, buy that fragrance in a 100 g pack and finish testing instead of ordering 1.5 kg.

1
Each fragrance passed in both jar sizes.A 6 cm jar and a 7 cm-wide jar have different melt pools, so a pass in one is not a pass in the other.
2
The wick is recorded per fragrance and size.Write it on your formula sheet so nobody guesses at pouring time.
3
Cure and throw have been checked after the page minimum. The stated minimum for soy on most of these pages is 48–72 h; re-check later as a suggested starting point.
4
Your loss allowance is measured.Add it to the wax and oil lines before you order.
5
Your cash flow can carry the month. If ₹107,070.60 at once is too much, split the order in two; for most lines it costs nothing extra.

Buying sensibly at 500 a month is less about squeezing the price and more about never stopping production for one missing item. Order fragrance in the packs that fit, and the rest in the packs that fit your shelf.

Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials and production equipment, not finished candles. This guide separates general candle-making practice from what CSI's own product pages state, says plainly where CSI publishes no figure (wick sizes, burn times, hardness), and labels every wick, load, test count or margin as a starting point for your own validation.

Prices are live CSI prices from October 2026; product pages are authoritative. Where a spec is not published — such as a wick size for your jar, a mould's cycle life or a wax's survival temperature — this guide says so rather than filling the gap.

Frequently asked questions

How much fragrance oil do I need for 500 candles?
At 8% of total candle weight, a 200 g candle uses 16 g and a 120 g candle 9.6 g. In this example mix that is 7,040 g a month across five fragrances, or 1,408 g each.
Is it cheaper to buy candle wax in 10 kg bags?
For CSI 464, no: 1 kg, 5 kg and 10 kg all work out at ₹0.5074 per gram. CSI 468 and Natural Soy Pearl Wax are cheaper per kg from 5 kg.
How many matte jars should I order each month?
One per candle plus a buffer for breakage and rejects. At 350 candles that is 35 packs of 10, ₹24,780.00, before any buffer you choose to add. Remove cracked or chipped glass from production rather than using it.
Should I buy 1 kg or 500 g fragrance packs?
Match packs to monthly use. For 1,408 g a month, 1 kg + 500 g fits with little left over. For 2,000 g a month, two 1 kg packs fit better and cost less per gram.
Can I get a bulk price on more than 10 kg of wax?
CSI lists no pack above 10 kg for CSI 464; larger quantities are quoted on WhatsApp (+91 7397976926). Ask for a quote, but cost your candles at listed prices until you have one.
What does a 200 g candle cost to make at 500 a month?
With CSI 464, Lavender at 8%, a matte 200 ml jar and an Eco C2 wick, ₹257.04 in materials. That excludes packaging, labour, shipping and GST, which you add from your own quotes before setting a price.
