from — a two-stage adhesion screen of Chunks, CSI 464 and CSI 468 with White Royal Oud · CSI live pricing, October 2026
Quick answers — read this first
Should adhesion decide my wax? For a clear-glass brand, yes — as a gate. A wax must pass your adhesion standard in your jar before throw, tops or price are compared.

Why not just weight it in a scorecard? Weights let strengths outvote weaknesses: a hypothetical high-throw wax can win 4.05 to 3.60 while spotting in every jar.

Which CSI wax adheres best? Unknown. Chunks, CSI 464 and CSI 468 pages all claim excellent adhesion and none publishes data. Screen them in your jar.

What does the screen cost? ₹4,602.20–₹4,667.20 for 18 mini jars, 10 Clear 150 g jars, three waxes and White Royal Oud. See the kit.
The short answer
Answer: Yes — for a brand built on clear glass, make adhesion a gate: a wax must meet your house standard in your own jar at 7 days and after a temperature cycle, and burn no worse than your control, before throw or cost count.
Method: Lock the process, screen three waxes in mini jars to drop gross failures, then pour two finalists in your brand jar, cycle them, gate them, rank the survivors.
Honesty: CSI publishes no adhesion data; all three container wax pages make the same claim, so only your screen ranks them.
For a clear-glass brand, make adhesion a gate — not one score among many Two-stage screen · cheap mini jars remove gross failures · the brand's own jar decides · burn and throw rank only the waxes that pass Stage 1 · Mini 40 ml jars 3 waxes × 6 jars · example 30 g fill Chunks CSI 464 CSI 468 GATE gross failures out Stage 2 · your brand jar 2 finalists × 5 Clear 150 g jars Finalist 1 Finalist 2 GATE house grade at 7 days AND after a temperature cycle then rank Why a weighted score alone fails a clear-glass brand (hypothetical waxes A and B — not measurements of any CSI wax) Throw ×0.40 Burn ×0.25 Tops ×0.15 Adhesion ×0.20 Weighted total Gate Wax A 5 5 4 1 4.05 FAIL Wax B 3 4 4 4 3.60 PASS A wins the weighted total (4.05 vs 3.60) yet shows wet spots in every jar — a brand built on clear glass cannot sell it at full price. Gate first (adhesion to YOUR house standard, in YOUR jar), then rank the survivors on burn, throw, tops and cost. Safety lines are gates too: no wax passes on looks if its burn is worse than your current control.
A two-stage adhesion screen with gates. Mini jars remove gross failures cheaply; two finalists are poured in the brand's own clear jar, graded at 7 days and after a temperature cycle, and must pass both gates before throw, tops and cost rank them. The inset shows, with hypothetical waxes, how a weighted score alone can pick a wax a clear-glass brand cannot sell.
Straight answer
My luxury brand depends on crystal-clear glass jars — should glass adhesion become a major criterion when selecting wax?
Yes — and the right way to make it major is as a gate, not a weight. In a clear-glass brand every wet spot is on the shelf and in every photo, so a wax must meet your house adhesion standard, in your own jar, at 7 days and after a temperature cycle — and burn no worse than your current control — before its throw, tops or price are compared. A weighted scorecard alone lets strong throw outvote a jar full of spots. Two conditions keep the gate honest: lock the process first (cleaning, glass temperature, each wax's page pour, one cooling position) so you measure the wax, not the room; and judge in your own jar. Every CSI container wax page — Chunks, CSI 464, CSI 468 — claims excellent adhesion, so the claims rank nothing. Screen them in two stages: 18 Mini 40 ml jars to drop gross failures, then two finalists in 10 clear jars — ₹4,602.20–₹4,667.20 in CSI materials with White Royal Oud.
One line: gate on adhesion in your own jar and on burn safety; rank the survivors on throw, tops and cost.
Screen the three CSI container waxes that make an adhesion claim — Luxury Soy Wax Chunks, Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 and Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 — in two stages: 18 Mini Glass Jars 40 ml to remove gross failures, then 10 Clear Glass Jar with Golden Lid (150 gram)s for the two finalists, all with White Royal Oud at 8%. The full two-stage kit is ₹4,602.20–₹4,667.20 depending on which two waxes reach stage 2.

Should adhesion be a major wax criterion? Yes — as a gate

If the jar is the product, the wax has to pass the jar's test before anything else counts.

For a brand whose identity is crystal-clear glass, adhesion is not a cosmetic extra: every wet spot is visible on the shelf, in every product photo and in the customer's hand. So yes, glass adhesion should become a major criterion — but the useful way to make it major is as a gate, not as one weighted score among several. A gate means a wax must reach your house adhesion standard, in your jar, at your checkpoints, before its throw, burn, tops or price are even compared. A weighted score lets a strong throw outvote a jar full of wet spots, and for a clear-glass brand that is the one trade you cannot sell.

Three conditions keep the gate honest. First, standardise the process before you judge the wax — clean jars, a fixed glass condition, each wax's own page pour range, one cooling position — otherwise you are measuring your workshop, not the wax. Second, judge in your own jar, because adhesion is a property of the wax, the glass and the process together; a result in someone else's jar transfers poorly. Third, keep the burn as a gate too: a wax that adheres beautifully but burns worse than your current control fails, whatever the glass looks like. The single test to run first is the stage-1 screen: three waxes, six mini jars each, one melt session, one oil.

Every CSI container wax page makes the same adhesion claim. Luxury Soy Wax Chunks: "excellent adhesion to glass and container surfaces reduces wet spots and pull-away". CSI 464: "excellent glass adhesion", single pour, low frosting. CSI 468: "formulated for excellent glass adhesion and a one-pour finish". Because all three say it, the claims rank nothing. CSI publishes no adhesion data for any wax, and we will not tell you which of the three will pass your gate — only how to find out.

How a clear-glass brand should weigh each criterion — a working framework, not an industry standard
Gate or weight: where each wax criterion belongs for a clear-glass brand
Criterion Gate or weight? Why Measured how
Burn safety vs current control Gate Never traded for looks or throw Side-by-side burns: pool, flame, soot, jar-side comparison
Glass adhesion in your jar Gate The product is seen through the glass House grade at 7 days and after a temperature cycle
Fragrance load ceiling Gate (if your formula needs it) Chunks and CSI 468 pages state up to 13%; CSI 464 up to 10% Product page
Hot throw Weight Ranks waxes that pass the gates Blind panel, fixed room
Tops and frosting Weight Visible, but often fixable by process House grade
Cost per visually acceptable candle Weight Material ÷ full-price candles Arithmetic below
Heat and courier stability Gate for e-commerce Spots can develop after dispatch Labelled temperature cycle
The CSI principle
Gate on what you cannot sell without. Rank on everything else.
For a clear-glass brand, adhesion in your own jar and a burn no worse than your control are gates. Throw, tops and cost decide between the waxes that pass — never in place of the gates.

Standardise the process before you judge any wax

A wax screen run on an unstandardised process mostly measures the process. Wet spots are commonly linked to residues on the glass, cold glass meeting hot wax, uneven cooling and temperature swings — all workshop conditions. If jars are cleaned on Monday and not on Tuesday, or one wax cools near the window and another by the AC, the adhesion difference you record belongs to the room. Fix these for the screen, write them down and keep them fixed for every wax:

Fix each line for the whole screen · labelled example settings — replace with your own and record them
Process lock for a wax screen
Variable Fixed for the screen as Why it matters Where it is tested on its own
Jar preparation Every jar wiped with IPA spray and dried completely, or every jar as delivered Residues are a commonly cited cause cleaning new jars
Glass temperature Room temperature, measured and recorded — or one warmed arm, e.g. 35–45°C, never above the pour or jar limit Cold glass vs hot wax preheating jars
Pour temperature Each wax at its own page figure: Chunks 75–80°C (spec table), CSI 464 80–85°C in the Clear 150 g jar (page 80–90°C, jar limit 85°C), CSI 468 58–60°C A wax poured outside its range is not a fair test pour temperature before wax
Cooling One board, still air, alternating waxes along it Position changes cooling spacing jars
Oil and load One bottle of White Royal Oud at 8% for every jar Oil and load can change how wax sets each fragrance behaving differently

Notice the pour line: each wax pours at its own page's figure, so the screen compares whole systems — wax plus its stated pour — which is what you would actually make. That is fairer than forcing all three to one temperature, which would put at least one of them outside its maker's range. If your process locks are already in your SOP, this step costs nothing; if they are not, the wet-spot diagnosis shows which of them matter most for your candle.

The common mistake: screening waxes on different days. Chunks on Saturday, CSI 464 on Sunday, CSI 468 the following week. Room temperature, humidity, jar lot and your own technique all drift between sessions, and the adhesion difference you see may be the calendar. Fix: pour every wax in one session, in rotating order, from jars out of one carton, onto one board — and repeat the whole screen once in a different season before you commit a premium line to one wax.

The two-stage screen

Cheap jars to throw out the obvious failures. Your jar to decide.

Stage 1 uses CSI's Mini Glass Jars 40 ml because they let you pour six jars per wax for very little wax: at an example weighed fill of 30 g (CSI does not publish a fill weight; 40 ml is the brim volume), each holds 27.6 g of wax and 2.4 g of oil at 8%. A mini jar is a different vessel from your brand jar, so stage 1 can only remove gross failures — a wax that spots badly in every mini jar is unlikely to be your answer — and cannot pick a winner. Stage 2 pours the two best in CSI's Clear Glass Jar with Golden Lid (150 gram), the clear jar with a published approximately 150 g fill and a stated hot-pour limit of 85°C, standing in here for your brand jar. If your brand jar is different, use it — that is the jar that decides.

1
Stage 1: pour 18 mini jars in one sessionSix each of Chunks, CSI 464 and CSI 468, numbered 01–18, poured in rotating order (Chunks, 464, 468, Chunks…), each wax at its own page pour figure, one bottle of White Royal Oud at 8%.
2
Stage 1: grade at 48 hours and 7 daysFour sides per jar, plain light background, house grade 0–4 with the jar numbers hidden. Drop any wax whose jars are clearly worse than the others at 7 days on your pre-written rule — for example, a median grade two or more steps worse.
3
Stage 2: pour five brand jars per finalistThe two waxes left, 5 jars each, same process lock, same oil, rotating order. Add your current wax as a third arm if you have one — it is the control every finalist must beat.
4
Stage 2: grade at 48 hours, 7 days and after a cycleThen take two jars per finalist through a labelled example temperature cycle — e.g. 8 hours warm, 16 hours at room temperature, 3–5 cycles, warm phase kept well below CSI 468's 50–53°C melting point — or your logged courier route. A simple temperature-cycle test sets one up.
5
Gate, then rankA finalist passes only if it meets your house adhesion standard at 7 days and after the cycle, and burns no worse than your control. Only then compare throw, tops and cost — choosing a container wax on every criterion builds the full scorecard.
Example house gate — yours, not an industry standard; write it before you pour
Adhesion gate for a clear-glass luxury line
Checkpoint Example gate Jars that must meet it If missed
7 days, customer view No visible patch at arm's length on a shelf All 5 Fail
7 days, inspection view House grade 0–1 from all four sides At least 4 of 5 Fail
After temperature cycle No jar worse than grade 1 Both cycled jars Fail
Rim from above No pull-away at the top edge All 5 Investigate before passing
Burn vs control No line worse on 2 of 3 burns 3 burned jars Fail — whatever the glass looks like

Five jars per finalist is a small number for a pass decision, and you should know what it can and cannot prove: zero spotted jars out of five still allows a true spotted share of up to about 45% (the 95% upper bound, pure arithmetic). That is why stage 2 is a screen, and why the winner then runs a pilot before a premium launch — a 50–100 candle pilot — and why your baseline variation matters as the yardstick.

Photograph the stage-2 jars the way your brand photographs product
A luxury clear-glass brand sells through photographs. Add one shot per stage-2 jar under your product-photo lighting, lid off, at your usual angle. Studio light often reveals patches a shelf view hides; if a finalist's jars look wrong in your own product photos, that is a gate failure for your brand even if the shelf view passes.

Why a weighted score alone fails a clear-glass brand

Weighted scorecards are a good tool, and a full wax scorecard is worth building. Their weakness is that they let strengths compensate for weaknesses. Take two hypothetical waxes — A and B, not CSI waxes and not measurements of anything — scored 1 to 5 with example weights of 40% throw, 25% burn, 15% tops and 20% adhesion. Wax A throws strongly (5) and burns well (5) but spots in every jar (adhesion 1); wax B throws less (3) but adheres well (4). The weighted totals are 4.05 for A and 3.60 for B: A wins the scorecard and loses the shelf. For a brand whose product is seen through glass, A cannot be sold at full price however good it smells.

Hypothetical scores for illustration only — not test results for any CSI wax
Same scorecard, two verdicts
Throw (×0.40) Burn (×0.25) Tops (×0.15) Adhesion (×0.20) Weighted total With adhesion as a gate
Wax A 5 5 4 1 4.05 Fails the gate
Wax B 3 4 4 4 3.60 Passes; ranked on throw, tops and cost

The fix is not to give adhesion a bigger weight — any weight can be outvoted by large enough scores elsewhere. The fix is the gate. And the trade-off the scorecard was trying to make does not disappear: if no wax passes your adhesion gate with acceptable throw, the question becomes choosing between adhesion and throw, and for a clear-glass brand the honest answers are process work, a different oil load or vessel for that SKU, or accepting minor wet spots for better performance on a non-hero product.

A scorecard that lets throw outvote a jar full of wet spots is a scorecard for a different brand.

What the criterion costs per candle

Making adhesion a gate can mean paying more for wax. At the 5 kg rate for each wax, White Royal Oud at the 1 kg rate (₹8.10/g), an Eco Thin C1 wick at ₹5.90 as the example wick line and the Clear 150 g jar at ₹94.40, the 150 g candle costs as below. It excludes labour, packaging, freight and GST.

150 g · 8% · waxes at 5 kg rates (CSI live pricing, re-checked 7 October 2026) · oil CSI live pricing, pulled 24 September 2026, stock re-checked 7 October 2026 · jar CSI live pricing, pulled 7 October 2026
Material per candle with each candidate wax
Wax Per kg (5 kg bag) Wax per candle Per candle Extra per 1,000 candles vs cheapest
Chunks ₹599.00 ₹82.66 ₹280.20 ₹12,640.80
CSI 464 ₹507.40 ₹70.02 ₹267.56 ₹0.00
CSI 468 ₹637.00 ₹87.91 ₹285.44 ₹17,884.80

The spread between the cheapest and dearest wax is ₹17,884.80 per 1,000 candles at these rates. Set that against what a spotted jar costs a luxury brand. If a wax that passes your gate is the dearer one, the extra is usually small next to the price of a single second sold at a discount — but only your own figures can say so, and cost per visually acceptable candle does that arithmetic properly. White Royal Oud is a premium oil at ₹8.10 a gram; at 8% it contributes ₹97.24 to every candle, more than any of the waxes, which is a reminder that the wax decision is rarely the biggest material line.

Argued against our own interest, plainly. We would sell more wax by telling you one of ours adheres best. We do not know that, and neither does anyone without your jar and your oil: all three pages make the same claim and none publishes a measurement. Buy the 500 g bags for stage 1, buy only the extra bags your two finalists need for stage 2, and buy no production wax until a finalist has passed your gate, burned no worse than your control and survived a pilot.
Diwali falls on Sunday 8 November 2026, and the November–February wedding season follows. A two-stage screen fits before the season if stage 1 is poured this week; a new wax for a luxury line should still go through a pilot before full production. The priced two-stage kit

Stage 1 buys a 500 g bag of each wax (173.9 g needed per wax, leaving 326.1 g). Stage 2 needs 724.5 g per finalist, so each finalist needs one more bag of 398.4 g or more — priced below as a range because you will not know the finalists until stage 1 is graded. The decision rule

Stop at the first line that is true.

Working decision rule
Making adhesion a criterion — and acting on it
If this is true It means Do / buy
Your process is not locked (cleaning, glass, pour, cooling vary) A screen would measure the room Don't buy wax yet — lock the process. The diagnosis ladder shows what matters
Process locked; no screen run No evidence for any wax Buy stage 1: three 500 g bags + 18 minis
All three waxes fail stage 1 badly The jar or process dominates Return to process; check the jar — test every new vessel
Two finalists, neither passes the stage-2 gate No wax meets your standard in this jar Process work, a different vessel for this SKU, or revise the standard knowingly
One finalist passes the gate and burns no worse than control A candidate for the line Pilot it — 50–100 candles — then buy production packs
Both pass Rank on throw, tops and cost per acceptable candle Choose the cheaper per acceptable candle; pilot before buying production

If a wax passes, record the whole system that passed — jar lot, cleaning, glass temperature, pour figure, cooling position, oil and load — because the pass belongs to the system, not the wax alone. What to record when comparing waxes gives the fields; locking the approved process turns them into production rules.

It depends on your jar, oil and process as well as the wax. Pour candidates side by side in one session, grade at 7 days and after a temperature cycle, and decide on your own house standard.
Should I choose wax for throw or for appearance?
For a clear-glass brand, appearance in your jar and burn safety are gates; throw ranks the waxes that pass. If none passes with acceptable throw, see choosing between adhesion and throw.
How many jars do I need to compare candle waxes?
Six small jars per wax to drop gross failures, then at least five of your brand jar per finalist — and a pilot before launch. Zero spotted in five still allows up to about 45%.
Do I need to pour all waxes at the same temperature?
No — pour each at its own page figure (Chunks 75–80°C, CSI 464 80–85°C in the Clear 150 g jar, CSI 468 58–60°C). Forcing one temperature puts some waxes outside their range.
Is adhesion more important than hot throw?
Not in general. For a brand sold through clear glass it is a gate — a wax that fails it cannot be sold at full price — while throw decides among the waxes that pass.

About this guide: Written by the CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA team. The gate framework, process lock and two-stage screen apply to any container wax and jar from any supplier; the products named are CSI's.

Customer reviews: The six reviews at the top of this page are genuine, published Judge.me reviews left by CSI customers on the product pages named on each card — Eco Candle Wicks, Premium Candle Wicking Needle and Bamboo Wick Holder. They are general product reviews, not assessments of the guidance set out here. Names, star ratings, dates and products are as recorded by Judge.me and wording is unedited. "Verified buyer" appears only on the three reviews Judge.me recorded as verified — Monika Deep, Subhankar Roy and Sneha Tamang; the reviews from Ashwini, LJ and Lalitha Jagan are published but not recorded as verified, and carry no badge.

Non-price figures and assumptions: Load convention: fragrance load is a share of the finished candle (oil = W × L; wax = W × (1 − L)). Stage 1: 6 Mini 40 ml jars per wax at an example 30 g weighed fill (not published). Stage 2: 5 Clear 150 g jars per finalist at 150 g. 8% load, a 5% pour loss, checkpoints at 48 hours and 7 days plus a labelled temperature cycle, a 0–4 house grade and the example gate are working practices. The scorecard weights and wax A/B scores are hypothetical illustrations, not CSI test results. The upper bound for zero events in five jars is 1 − 0.05^(1/5). Per-candle costs use 5 kg wax rates and the White Royal Oud 1 kg rate. What CSI's product pages state (quoted, not CSI test results): Luxury Soy Wax Chunks — up to 13% fragrance, fragrance addition 80–90°C, pour 75–80°C in the spec table (steps show 70–80°C), stir 2 minutes, cure at least 48 hours, ideally 1–2 weeks, and "excellent adhesion to glass and container surfaces reduces wet spots and pull-away"; Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 — up to 10% fragrance, an 80–90°C melt/pour range, "excellent glass adhesion", single pour, low frosting; Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 — melting point 50–53°C, pour 58–60°C, up to 13% fragrance, "formulated for excellent glass adhesion and a one-pour finish"; Natural Soy Pearl — no adhesion statement, temperature or fragrance ceiling published. All three adhesion statements say the same thing, so they cannot rank the waxes. Clear Glass Jar with Golden Lid (150 gram) — approximately 150 g of wax, "safe for hot pour up to 85°C", so CSI 464 poured into it is limited to 80–85°C. CSI publishes no adhesion, wet-spot, shrinkage, contraction or burn-test data for any wax, oil, dye or jar, no glass thickness and no internal diameters. A wet spot is commonly described as an air gap between wax and glass; mechanisms on this page are general candle-making knowledge, phrased as such. Glass-warming temperatures, room conditions and temperature cycles are labelled example test settings the reader measures and records. Material costs exclude labour, packaging, freight and GST.
