An AC studio is the one place your candle will never be sold in. Keep studio twins, put matching candles on a non-AC shelf and on a real courier round trip with a logger, and judge every travelled candle against the twin that stayed home.
₹5,202.80
materials for an 18-candle, three-arm delivery test of two CSI soy waxes · CSI live pricing, re-checked 1 October 2026
Quick answers — read this first
Why do my candles change after delivery? They meet conditions the studio never had: a warm van and hub, a doorstep, and weeks in a non-AC room. The change usually happens at one of those stops.

How should I test? Three arms: studio twins (control), a non-AC home shelf for about two weeks (example), and real courier round trips with a logger inside. See the design.

What should I score? Top, frosting, glass contact, blot, wick lean, cold throw and a burn — each against the studio twin. See the sheet.

What does it cost? ₹5,202.80 in CSI materials for 18 candles; courier and logger are yours. See the kit.
The short answer
Answer: Test the journey, not the studio: studio control twins, a non-AC shelf arm and a real logged parcel arm, each unscented and at 8%, scored and burned against the twins.
Why: Delivery changes happen in transit and in customers' non-AC rooms over weeks; an AC studio never shows them, and CSI publishes no heat or storage data for any wax.
Method: 9 candles per wax; 14-day home shelf (example); one courier round trip with a logger; score on one day; burn H and P candles beside S twins.
Your studio sees one stop. Your customer's candle makes six. Example: CSI 464 vs Natural Soy Pearl · Japanese Cherry Blossom 8% · log each stop you can reach STUDIO AC, controlled where you judge it log: ___°C for ___ h STORE / PACK workshop shelf days to dispatch log: ___°C for ___ h COURIER van, hub, van closed, stacked log: ___°C for ___ h DOORSTEP porch, guard room hours, maybe sun log: ___°C for ___ h CUSTOMER ROOM often no AC weeks on a shelf log: ___°C for ___ h FIRST BURN warm room what they judge log: ___°C for ___ h Three test arms cover the journey S · STUDIO control twins stay in AC 1 unscented + 2 at 8% H · HOME SHELF non-AC room, 14 days (example) 1 unscented + 2 at 8% P · PARCEL real courier round trip + logger 1 unscented + 2 at 8% per wax · 18 candles for two waxes · every H and P candle is judged against its S twin
A candle judged in the studio has seen one stop of a six-stop journey. The test brings the rest in through three arms: studio twins as the control, a non-AC home shelf for the slow change of a customer's room, and real courier parcels with a logger for transit. Temperatures and times are blank — they are what your logger records, not figures CSI publishes.
Straight answer
My soy candles look perfect in an air-conditioned studio but change after delivery to customers — how should I test wax under realistic Indian conditions?
Test the journey the candle makes, against a twin that never left the studio. Pour each candidate wax — the example uses CSI 464 and Natural Soy Pearl — unscented and at 8% Japanese Cherry Blossom, and split them into three arms: S, studio twins kept in AC as the control; H, a non-AC room in your own house for about 14 days (an example — longer is better) with a logger on the shelf; and P, real courier round trips in production packing with a min/max thermometer or logger inside. Score top, frosting, glass contact, blot, wick lean and blind cold throw on the same day, then burn H and P candles beside their S twins. If H changes and P does not, the customer's room is the problem; if P changes, transit is; if the unscented candle changes too, the wax is implicated. The 18-candle kit costs ₹5,202.80 in CSI materials. CSI publishes no heat or storage data for any wax, so the arms decide.
One line: the studio twin is the standard; every difference a travelled candle shows is something the journey did.
The delivery-realistic test on this page — Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 and Natural Soy Pearl Wax, each unscented and at 8% Japanese Cherry Blossom, in a studio arm, a non-AC home-shelf arm and a real parcel round trip — is 18 candles and ₹5,202.80 in CSI materials. Courier charges for the test parcels are yours and are not included.

Test the journey your customer's candle makes, not the room you work in

Your studio is the one place your candle will never be sold in.

An air-conditioned studio is a good place to make candles and a poor place to judge them. It is cool, steady and dry, the candles sit still, and nobody touches them. The moment a candle leaves, all of that changes. It waits on a workshop shelf, rides in a closed van, sits in a hub, waits on a doorstep, then lives for weeks in a customer's room — very often a room without air conditioning, in a country where a non-AC room in summer is a warm room. When candles that looked perfect in the studio arrive with a dull or uneven top, a little oil on the surface, a wet-looking patch on the glass or a leaning wick, the candle has not changed its nature. It has met conditions it was never tested in.

So the test has to follow the candle. You cannot put a thermometer in every customer's room, but you can do three things that bring the real conditions into your test: keep a set of candles in a non-AC room in your own house for a couple of weeks; send real parcels on real routes with a min/max thermometer or temperature logger inside (neither is a CSI item); and judge every one of those candles against an identical twin that never left the studio. That last part is what turns a pile of travelled candles into evidence.

This page uses Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 and Natural Soy Pearl Wax as the two waxes to show the method — two container-suitable soy waxes at different price points. Nothing here claims either one handles delivery better. CSI publishes no heat, humidity or storage-appearance data for either; CSI 464's product page describes glass adhesion and low frosting, which are the wax maker's claims and exactly the kind of thing this test checks for your jar and oil.

The CSI principle
Judge a candle where it lives, not where it was born — and always beside a twin that stayed home.
The studio twin is the reference. Every difference between it and a travelled candle is something the journey did.

Where the change happens: six stops between studio and first burn

Most delivery changes fall into a handful of kinds, and each has a likely stop. The table pairs them up so you know what to look for and where your logger should go. The mechanisms are general candle-making knowledge, phrased as "can"; none are CSI measurements.

Studio vs real conditions · general practice · log what you can reach
Stop by stop: what the studio hides
Stop Studio condition Real condition (yours to log) What can change there How to check
Workshop shelf before dispatch AC, steady ___°C, ___ days Cure continues; surface can bloom Photo on dispatch day vs pour day
Courier van and hub — Logger peak ___°C, ___ h Softening, sweating, wick lean, glass pull-away P-arm parcels
Doorstep / reception — ___ h; sun or shade Local softening if in sun Ask a friend to log a delivery
Customer's room, weeks AC, steady Non-AC room ___°C day/night Frosting, wet spots, top changes, slow sweating H-arm home shelf
Customer's first burn Cool room Warm room Melt pool reaches the edge sooner; jar warmer Burn H-arm candle vs S twin
Humid coastal destination Dry air Humid air Surface film, labels, packaging 5427 humidity post

Two of these stops are slow rather than hot. A customer's non-AC room changes a candle over weeks, through repeated warm days and cooler nights, which is why a two-day parcel test can pass while complaints still arrive a month later. The H arm exists for that. Candles that soften in heat but firm again indoors covers what the daily warm–cool cycle does to a top, and candles that work in winter but sweat in April covers the seasonal version of the same problem.

Re-pouring the studio candle to look like the delivered one. A maker sees a dull top on delivery, changes the pour temperature, and the studio candle now looks different — but the travelled candle still changes. The studio was never the problem. Fix: keep your approved studio process fixed while you test the journey. Only when you know which stop causes the change do you decide whether the fix is the wax, the load, the packing or the process — and whether to change the wax or the pouring process first is its own question.

The three-arm delivery test

Eighteen candles, three places, one question: what does the journey do?

Each wax gets nine candles: in each of three arms, one unscented and two at 8% (16 g of oil + 184 g of wax in a 200 g White Matte jar). The unscented candle separates wax behaviour from fragrance behaviour; the second 8% candle in each arm is the one you burn.

Per wax · 200 g · Japanese Cherry Blossom 8% · labelled working practice
Arms, conditions and what each one proves
Arm Where How long Candles per wax What it proves
S · Studio Your AC studio, packed as for dispatch Whole test 1 unscented + 2 at 8% The reference — the candle you approved
H · Home shelf A non-AC room, out of direct sun, logger on the shelf 14 days (example; extend if you can) 1 unscented + 2 at 8% Slow change in a customer-like room
P · Parcel Real courier round trip in production packing, logger inside One full trip each way 1 unscented + 2 at 8% What transit does — handling as well as heat
Total per wax 9 18 candles for two waxes
1
Pour and cure togetherBoth waxes, one oil lot, same wick and jar, same day, same cure checkpoint (48 hours, 7 days or 14 days are labelled examples). CSI 464's product page lists 80–90°C as its melt/pour working range; Soy Pearl's page publishes no temperatures — ask CSI on WhatsApp and record what you used.
2
Photograph every candle on day zeroSame light, same angle, top and side, plus a shot through the base for glass contact. This is the before picture every later change is measured against.
3
Send the P arm on a real routeProduction packing, logger inside, to a friend or family member who will send it back unopened — or to your own second address. Ask them to note how long it waited on arrival and whether it sat in sun.
4
Put the H arm on a non-AC shelfPacked or unpacked, as a customer would keep it after opening. A logger on the same shelf records the room. 14 days is an example; longer is better if your calendar allows.
5
Score all arms on the same daySurface, glass contact, wick lean, blot test with one sheet of tissue, dent at a fixed weight and spot, weight, cold throw blind against the S twin.
6
Burn H and P candles beside their S twinsThe second 8% candle in each arm is lit next to the studio twin in the same warm room. A 3–4 hour cycle with full cool-down is a commonly used practice — label it as yours.
Make your test parcels earn twice
If you are already shipping, put a logger in one real customer parcel a week during the test season (with a note asking for it back, or a prepaid return). Every logged trip improves the numbers you use for choosing test temperatures above your workshop and for simulating courier heat at home.

The delivery scoring sheet

Fill one column per arm, and compare H and P with S only. CSI publishes no numeric flame-height or jar-temperature limit; the burn rule is no worse than the studio twin on every safety line, within your jar supplier's guidance and the candle fire-safety standard you work to (ASTM F2417 is a commonly cited US standard — read it for its own requirements).

One sheet per wax · score the same day for all arms
Delivery-realism scoring sheet
Line S · studio H · home shelf P · parcel Pass rule (set first)
Logged conditions ___°C ___ to ___°C peak ___°C, ___ h Record — this is the test condition
Top: smoothness / dullness 0–3 ___ ___ ___ No worse than S, or within your cosmetic standard
Frosting / bloom 0–3 ___ ___ ___ Within your cosmetic standard
Glass contact: wet spots, pull-away ___ ___ ___ No new area beyond standard

Cold throw blind vs S, 0–5 ref ___ ___ Within one point
Burn vs S twin: flame, soot, jar ref ___ ___ Safety: no worse than S
Comparing a travelled candle with the photo on your website. Product photos are taken of the best candle on the best day. A travelled candle compared against that will always look worse, and the conclusion — "the wax is wrong" — may be false. Fix: compare only with the S twin from the same pour, photographed on the same day under the same light.

The priced test kit

CSI's load convention: oil = 200 g × load. Each wax needs 1,704 g for nine candles (1,789.2 g with a 5% pour-loss allowance, a working assumption). The twelve 8% candles need 192 g of oil, 201.6 g with the allowance.

Both waxes are cheapest here as 2 × 1 kg: CSI 464's 1 kg bag (₹507.40) beats two 500 g bags (₹520.00), and Soy Pearl starts at 1 kg. The oil is cheapest as 2 × 100 g + 1 × 15 g (₹1,104.00). A logger or min/max thermometer and the courier charges are your own costs; one logger can serve both the H and P arms in turn if you stagger them.

What a delivery complaint costs, and what the test costs against it

At production packs (10 kg wax, 1 kg oil, ₹5.90 wick, ₹70.80 jar; labour, packaging, freight and GST excluded) the 200 g candle costs ₹247.53 in CSI 464 (₹93.36 of wax) and ₹232.34 in Soy Pearl (₹78.16 of wax). A replacement for a candle that arrived changed costs at least that again, plus your courier charge and packing, which are not priced here.

Example: 400 candles a month in CSI 464 · complaint rates are examples you replace · material only
Replacement material at different complaint rates
Complaint rate (example) Candles replaced / month Replacement material Months for the test kit to pay back
1% 4 ₹990.13 5.3
3% 12 ₹2,970.40 1.8
5% 20 ₹4,950.67 1.1

Even a 1% complaint rate on a 400-candle month replaces 4 candles' worth of material — ₹990.13 — every month. The ₹5,202.80 kit pays for itself within 5.3 months at that rate, and faster at any higher one, before counting the courier for replacements or the customers who do not complain but do not reorder.

After the test · 400 candles at 8% · 5% pour-loss allowance · CSI listed packs
Pilot and monthly order for the wax that passes
Order CSI 464 Natural Soy Pearl
10 kg pilot (one production run, logged parcels) 1 × 10 kg = ₹5,074.00 1 × 10 kg = ₹4,248.00
Monthly wax (77,280 g) 7 × 10 kg + 1 × 5 kg + 2 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g = ₹39,329.80 1 × 50 kg + 2 × 10 kg + 1 × 5 kg + 3 × 1 kg = ₹33,210.00
Argued against our own interest, plainly. If your test shows that the studio twins and the travelled candles look the same in both waxes and only the doorstep sun did the damage, the fix is a delivery note or packaging, not a new wax from us. And Soy Pearl being cheaper per candle does not make it the better travelling wax — we have no data that says so. Buy on the sheet, not on the price.

The decision rule

Apply after scoring and burning · working decision rule
What the arms tell you to do
Result Meaning Action and purchase
H and P match S in one wax, not the other That wax handles your journey with this oil 10 kg pilot of that wax, logged parcels on the first production run
H changes, P does not (both waxes) The customer's room is the issue Storage and care note; summer vs indoor use; no wax change yet
P changes, H does not (both waxes) Transit is the issue Packing and dispatch timing — 5434; then retest
Unscented changes as well as 8% Wax + conditions, not the oil Test another wax or blend — 5422, 5430
Only 8% changes Load or wax–oil pairing Load ladder before changing the wax
Both waxes change in both arms Journey too hard for this formula Do not buy bulk; lower the load, change packing, re-test

If both waxes pass, choose on cost and supply: Soy Pearl is the cheaper per-candle wax in this example and has a 50 kg pack (listed in limited stock — confirm on WhatsApp); CSI 464 states a 10% ceiling and a 60-month shelf life on its page. If the answer depends on season, one robust year-round candle versus seasonal formulas sets out the trade-off, and the full life-cycle qualification ties this test to manufacturing and warehouse checks.

Diwali is Sunday 8 November 2026, and festive candles spend longer in transit and longer in gift cupboards. A 14-day home-shelf arm started this week finishes in mid-October. Message us your routes and monthly volume and we will price the kit and a 10 kg pilot. Wax bags go up to 10 kg (Soy Pearl to 50 kg, limited stock); larger quantities by quote, no published discount.

Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. When candles change on delivery, the easy answer for a wax supplier is "switch to our other wax". We publish no delivery, heat or humidity data for any wax, so this page gives you a test that may just as well point to packaging, a care note or a lower load.

Every wax price is CSI live pricing, re-checked 1 October 2026; Japanese Cherry Blossom prices are from the 24 September 2026 pull; wick, jar and tissue prices are as verified on 10 September and 24–25 September 2026. Candle splits, per-candle costs, payback months and pack rounding are arithmetic, shown to two decimals. Product-page statements are attributed to CSI's product pages.

The three arms, the 14-day shelf, candle counts, scoring scales, complaint rates, the 400-candle month and the 5% pour loss are labelled working practices and examples. Route and room temperatures are yours to log. For a test kit, bulk quote, GST invoicing or MSDS, WhatsApp +91 7397976926.

Frequently asked questions

Why do soy candles look different after shipping?
A van, a hub and a doorstep can be warmer than any studio, and handling can move a soft wick. Weeks in a non-AC room can change a top or bring out frosting. A test with studio twins shows which stop is responsible.
How do I test candles in real Indian summer conditions?
Keep candles on a non-AC shelf at home with a logger, and send real parcels on your routes with a logger inside. Compare everything with identical candles kept in your studio.
Should I store my candles without AC to test them?
Yes, as one arm of the test — most customers will. Keep a matched set in AC as the control so you know what the non-AC room changed.
How long should a candle stability test run?
Long enough to cover a real journey and a stretch on a customer's shelf. 14 days on a non-AC shelf plus one courier round trip is an example minimum; seasonal qualification extends it across months.
Does soy wax frost more in hot weather?
Frosting is commonly linked to temperature swings as wax crystals change, but nothing published predicts it for CSI's waxes. Photograph it in the H arm against the studio twin.
Which soy wax is best for shipping candles in India?
None can be named from data. Run the three arms with two candidate waxes and buy a 10 kg pilot of the one whose travelled candles match their studio twins. The hub covers the 100 kg decision.
Follow the candle
Keep a twin in the studio. Send its sibling on the real journey. Buy the wax whose travelled candles still look like the twin.
