Raw Materials Required to Make 1,000 Scented Candles

Can CSI's listed packs cover 1,000 candles? On most lines comfortably, on two lines only just. The 10 kg CSI 464 pack is listed several times over what 142 kg needs. The 135 gram tin in packs of twelve covers about 1,128 units at listed stock against the 1,044 this run buys — enough for this run and not for two. Some other soy grades list far less than 142 kg in their largest pack, which is a bulk quote on WhatsApp, not a checkout.
What is the largest pack CSI lists? On the grades costed here, wax goes to 10 kg, wicks to 1,000, fragrance oil to 1 kg, tins to packs of twelve, glass to packs of 50 or 100 depending on the vessel, wick stickers to a sheet of 40 and care labels to a roll of 1,000. One soy grade on the store lists a larger wax pack, so check the grade you want. For a consignment beyond the listed packs, ask on WhatsApp.
How many wicks and vessels should I order for 1,000 candles? 1,040 of each, on a 4% allowance for breakage, mis-set wicks and test candles. In wicks that is a 1000-pack plus two 20-packs, ₹6,136.00. In 135 gram tins it is 87 packs of twelve, ₹1,01,017.44, which gives 1,044 vessels. Tins are worth considering at this volume precisely because they do not break in transit the way 1,040 glass jars can.
The full material list for 1,000 candles
The candle costed here is a 135 g fill in a 135 gram tin, scented at 8% of wax weight, one wick, one care label. Tins rather than glass, because at a thousand units the breakage arithmetic on glass gets expensive and the shipping gets fussy — but the method below works for any vessel, and there is a table of the alternatives further down. The wax is Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464, whose page gives 80–90°C as the working range for melting and pouring and states a fragrance load of up to 10% of total wax weight.
| Line | In the candles | Allowance | Packs to buy | Cost |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Wax · CSI 464 | 135 kg | 5% → 141.75 kg | 14 × 10 kg + 2 × 1 kg = 142 kg | ₹72,050.80 |

| Oil · Eucalyptus Spearmint | 3.78 kg | in the 5% above | 4 × 1 kg | ₹12,272.00 |
| Oil · Fallen Leaves | 3.78 kg | in the 5% above | 4 × 1 kg | ₹16,992.00 |

| Vessels · 135 gram tin | 1,000 | 4% → 1,040 | 87 × Pack of 12 = 1,044 | ₹1,01,017.44 |
| Care labels · rolls | 1,000 | 4% → 1,040 | 1 × 1000 roll + 1 × 500 roll | ₹1,112.00 |
| CSI materials | — | — | 8 lines | ₹2,24,452.24 |

| Labour, electricity, storage | 8–10 pour days plus a cure | — | not sold by CSI | your figure |
Per candle that is ₹224.45 of CSI materials — ₹96.76 of tin, ₹68.50 of wax, ₹33.13 to ₹45.88 of fragrance depending on the scent, ₹5.90 of wick, ₹2.50 of wick sticker and ₹0.70 of care label. The vessel is the largest single line, as it almost always is, and the wax is second. Fragrance is third and moves the most: swap the Fallen Leaves batch for Dark Vanilla and that one line rises by ₹13,592.00 across the run for the same number of grams.
The pack ladder: how far each line climbs
A pack ladder is simply the list of variants on a product page, smallest to largest, with the per-unit rate beside each one. Two things are worth knowing about each line before you build a four-figure order: where the ladder ends, and where on the ladder the rate stops falling. They are rarely the same step, and most of the money people think they are saving at volume was already saved three steps down.
| Line | Ladder | Largest listed pack | Rate at the top | Where the rate stops improving |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 | 500 g → 1 kg → 5 kg → 10 kg | 10 kg | ₹507.40 /kg | At 1 kg. The 1, 5 and 10 kg packs are all ₹507.40 a kilogram |
| British Rose Fragrance Oil | 15 gm → 50 gm → 100 gm → 500 gm → 1 kg | 1 kg | ₹3.07 /g | Keeps improving to the top; the 1 kg pack is the best rate |
| Eucalyptus Spearmint | 15 gm → 50 gm → 100 gm → 500 gm → 1 kg | 1 kg | ₹3.07 /g | Keeps improving to the top |
| Eco Candle Wicks Thin (C1) | 10 → 20 → 50 → 100 → 500 → 1000 | 1,000 wicks | ₹5.90 each | Never. The rate is identical at all six steps |
| Tin Containers 135 gram | Pack of 12 | Pack of 12 | ₹96.76 each | One step only; buy the number of packs you need |
| Candle Wick Stickers | Sheet of 40 | Sheet of 40 | ₹2.50 each | One step in stock; 26 sheets covers this run |
| Candle Care Stickers | Roll of 500 → roll of 1000 | Roll of 1,000 | ₹0.70 each | At the top; ₹0.70 against ₹0.83 |
Read the wick row and the wax row together, because between them they explain most of what a thousand-candle order feels like. On the wicks, a 1000-pack costs exactly a thousand times the single-wick rate: ₹5.90 each whether you buy ten or a thousand. On the wax, the 10 kg pack and the 1 kg pack are the same ₹507.40 a kilogram, so the only thing a 10 kg pack buys you is fourteen clicks instead of a hundred and forty-two. Neither of those is a complaint. It simply means that the volume economics of a four-figure run are not hiding in the CSI half of the sheet — they are in the half CSI does not sell, where a thousand printed labels and one bulk dispatch genuinely do cost less per unit than a hundred of each.
The fragrance line is the exception that proves the rule. British Rose falls from ₹3.19 a gram in the 500 gm bottle to ₹3.07 in the 1 kg, so on a line where you are buying four kilograms of each of three scents, always climb to the top step. Twelve 1 kg bottles beat twenty-four 500 gm bottles on this line, which is the single clearest volume saving available anywhere on the list.
What the largest listed packs actually cover
Depth is the part of procurement nobody writes about and everybody eventually hits. The question on every line of a four-figure list is not what does the pack cost, it is how many of that pack are listed, and does that number reach the quantity this run needs. Here is the honest read on each line at the time of writing.
| Line | This run needs | Pack used | Roughly what listed stock covers | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Wax · CSI 464 | 142 kg | 10 kg | Several hundred kilograms | Comfortable — build the run on it |
| Wax · Luxury Soy Wax Chunks | 142 kg | 10 kg | Well under 142 kg in the 10 kg pack alone | Ask on WhatsApp before you choose this grade |
| Wax · Premium Coconut Soy CSI 468 | 142 kg | 10 kg | Well under 142 kg in the 10 kg pack alone | Ask on WhatsApp before you choose this grade |
| Wax · Eco Soy CSI 400 | 142 kg | 5 kg (largest listed) | Around the size of this run, no more | Workable, but leaves no headroom |
| Oil · British Rose 1 kg | 4 kg | 1 kg | Several times four kilograms | Comfortable |
| Vessel · 135 gram tin | 1,044 | Pack of 12 | A little over 1,100 tins | Covers this run; not two of them |
| Wicks · Eco C1 1000-pack | 1,040 | 1,000 wicks | Many times this run | Comfortable |
| Stickers · sheets of 40 | 26 sheets | Sheet of 40 | Several times this run | Comfortable |
| Care labels · 1,000 roll | 1,040 | Roll of 1,000 | Many times this run | Comfortable |
Two readings follow. The first is that the wax grade is a procurement decision as well as a formulation one. If your candle is built on CSI 464 at ₹507.40 a kilogram, the listed packs will carry a thousand candles without a conversation. If it is built on a grade whose largest listed pack is 10 kg and whose listed depth sits below 142 kg — Luxury Soy Wax Chunks at ₹599.90 a kilogram and Premium Coconut Soy CSI 468 at ₹637.00 are both in that position today — then the wax for your run is something to agree on WhatsApp first. That is not a reason to abandon the grade. It is a reason to ask early rather than at checkout.
The second is the vessel. Eighty-seven packs of twelve is a large share of what is listed behind the 135 gram tin, which means the run can be covered but a second identical run in the same fortnight probably cannot. If you are a contract maker with a repeat order, or you are planning 1,000 in October and 1,000 in November, the vessel is the line to lock in first. Glass behaves differently: the 200 ml Salsa jar at ₹29.50 each in packs of fifty and the 150 gram clear glass jar with golden lid at ₹94.40 each are both listed far more deeply than a thousand units, so on those the constraint is your breakage allowance rather than the store's depth.
Where the list stops being a checkout and becomes a conversation
There are three situations in a four-figure run where the store cannot answer you and a person can: when a line needs more than the listed packs carry, when you want a consignment larger than the biggest pack on the ladder, and when you need documentation for a corporate or export buyer. None of those has a published number, and this page is not going to invent one. What it can do is tell you exactly what to send so the answer comes back in one round trip rather than five.
One honest note on what not to ask this page for. Delivery times, freight rates, minimum orders and discount structures are not published by CSI and are not stated anywhere here. Several real customer reviews on the store mention delivery charges or delivery timelines as the thing they would most like improved, and at four figures those are genuinely material to your costing — which is exactly why they belong in a conversation with a number attached, and in your own blank rows on this sheet, rather than in an estimate on a blog page.
At a thousand units, the vessel is the run
On this build the vessel is ₹96.76 of a ₹224.45 candle — more than the wax and the fragrance put together. That ratio holds for almost every container candle, which is why the vessel line deserves more thought at a thousand units than everything else combined. Here are the sensible four-figure options from live stock, with what 1,040 of each costs.
| Vessel | Pack | Per unit | 1,040 units cost | Notes for a four-figure run |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 200ml Salsa Glass Jar | 50 Pcs | ₹29.50 | ₹30,975.00 | Cheapest per unit; lug cap included; gram fill not published, so weigh one |
| Clear Glass Votive Jar 70 gram | Pack of 10 | ₹31.86 | ₹33,134.40 | 70 g fill, so the wax line halves; 104 packs is a lot of packs |
| Golden Aluminium Tin, 85 g fill | Pack of 12 | ₹30.00 | — | Light, unbreakable, 85 g fill; a gifting-scale format |
| Tin Containers 85 gram | Pack of 12 | ₹70.80 | ₹73,915.20 | Lidded tin, 85 g fill; no breakage in transit |
| Tin Containers 135 gram | Pack of 12 | ₹96.76 | ₹1,01,017.44 | The vessel costed on this page; 135 g fill |
| Clear Glass Jar with Golden Lid | Pack of 10 | ₹94.40 | ₹98,176.00 | 150 g fill, 8 cm tall, hot-pour safe to 85°C; premium gifting |
| Black Glass Jar with Black Lid | Pack of 10 | ₹107.00 | ₹1,11,280.00 | 150 g fill; the dearest option here and the most finished-looking |
The spread across that table is ₹67,201.00 between the cheapest and the dearest option for the same 1,040 vessels. That is a larger number than the entire fragrance line on this run, and it is decided before you buy a single gram of wax. It is also the decision that most changes what the candle can be sold for, which is why it should be made with a sample in your hand rather than from a table — order five of two or three candidates, pour them, photograph them, and then commit the run.
Three practical points about vessels at this volume. Tins do not break, which removes a whole category of risk from a consignment of a thousand and makes the 4% allowance feel generous. Glass photographs better and usually sells for more, but 1,040 glass vessels arriving by road in India will include some casualties, and your allowance is doing real work. And lids matter to the sheet: some vessels here include a cap or lid in the listed price and some do not, so compare like with like before you decide one is cheaper than another.
What a thousand candles need that CSI does not sell
CSI sells wax, fragrance, wicks, vessels, dyes, finishing items, tools and equipment. It does not sell cartons, mailers, bubble wrap, printed labels, ribbon, tissue, shrink wrap, pallets or courier services, and publishes no rates for inbound freight, outbound delivery, labour, electricity, rent or marketing. At a thousand units several of those are four-figure or five-figure decisions in their own right. Every one of them gets a blank row here, with the quantity attached so you can go and get a real number.
| Row | Quantity at 1,000 candles | What to ask your supplier for | Cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Printed labels, front and base | 1,000–2,100 labels | Per-piece price at 1,000 and at 2,000 | your figure |
| Cartons or gift boxes | 1,000 | Per-piece at 1,000, plus a die or sample charge | your figure |
| Protective packing and filler | 1,000 units | Per-unit at your box size | your figure |
| Master cartons for dispatch | 40–90 depending on pack-out | Per-carton price and dimensions | your figure |
| Inbound freight on 142 kg plus 87 packs of tins | 1–2 consignments | Your charge at checkout | your figure |
| Outbound delivery | 1,000 parcels or one bulk drop | Per-parcel and per-kg bulk rates | your figure |
| Labour | 8–10 pour days plus finishing and pack-out | Your own rate, or a daily rate for help | your figure |
| Electricity and workspace | Pour days plus 3 weeks of cure space | Your bills or rent share | your figure |
| Marketplace, gateway or platform fees | on whatever sells online | Your platform statement | your figure |
| Your own costs, total | — | — | your figure |
| CSI materials | 8 lines | This page | ₹2,24,452.24 |
| True cost of the run | — | — | ₹2,24,452.24 + your own costs |
The row that surprises people at a thousand units is labour. Eight to ten pour days plus finishing, labelling and pack-out is a working fortnight of somebody's time, and if that somebody is you then the run has an opportunity cost even though no money changes hands. Price it anyway. A run that only works because you did not pay yourself is a run you cannot repeat and cannot hand to anyone else.
The row that most changes the answer is outbound delivery. One thousand candles going to a single corporate buyer, a wedding planner or a retailer is one consignment and a manageable number. One thousand candles going to a thousand individual customers is a thousand parcels, a thousand packing operations and a thousand chances of a broken jar. Two runs with identical CSI material costs can differ by a wide margin in true cost for that reason alone, which is precisely why this page refuses to fold delivery into a single headline figure.
Storing 142 kg of wax and 1,044 tins in an Indian climate
The physical reality of this list is fourteen ten-kilogram packs of flakes, twelve one-kilogram bottles of fragrance oil, eighty-seven boxes of tins and a couple of thousand small paper items, all landing in whatever space you have. That is the point at which a kitchen-table operation becomes a storage problem, and in India the storage problem has a season attached to it.
The CSI 464 page states a shelf life of 60 months in cool, dry storage, and asks that the wax be kept away from sunlight and moisture. That second instruction is the one that matters in a Mumbai or Kochi monsoon: flakes in a bag that has been opened and loosely reclosed in humid air will clump, and clumped wax melts unevenly. Reseal every opened pack, keep them off a concrete floor, and draw from one pack at a time rather than opening all fourteen. Fragrance oil wants the same treatment for a different reason — bottles kept sealed, upright, out of sunlight and away from heat.
Vessels need floor space more than they need conditions, but they need it for weeks. Eighty-seven boxes of tins is a meaningful stack, and the cured candles that come out of them need somewhere stable to rest for a fortnight or three. In a Delhi or Ahmedabad summer, "stable" means the coolest room you have rather than the most convenient one: soy container candles left in a room that swings from 25°C at night to 40°C in the afternoon will develop surface texture that is cosmetic but hard to explain to a customer expecting a perfect top. Plan the cure space before the pour dates, not after the first tray is poured.
Finally, a sanity check on the sheet itself. Does every line trace to a pack on a product page. Is the load applied to wax weight — 8% of 135 g is 10.8 g, and both the wax ceiling and the oil page range have to allow it, with the lower figure governing. Are the allowances written down as 5% and 4% rather than buried in a total. Have the two binding lines been confirmed rather than assumed. And does the sheet end in two totals — ₹2,24,452.24 of CSI materials, and your own rows underneath. If it ends in one number, something in it was invented, and at a thousand candles an invented number is an expensive habit.
CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles, and at four figures the honest answer to some questions is not a price. Cartons, printed labels, filler, ribbon, inbound freight, outbound courier, labour, electricity and storage are all real costs of a thousand-candle run and CSI sells none of them and publishes no rates for them, so they appear here as blank rows. Where a listed pack does not go deep enough to cover the run, this page says so rather than quietly recommending it, and points to a WhatsApp conversation instead of a checkout.
Every price is from live CSI stock in September 2026 and the linked product pages are authoritative. Per-kilogram, per-gram and per-unit rates are derived from the pack variants named beside each figure. Product-page specifications are quoted as such: the Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 page gives 80–90°C as the working range for melting and pouring, states a fragrance load of up to 10% of total wax weight and a shelf life of 60 months in cool, dry storage away from sunlight and moisture; the oil pages state their own candle ranges, and where a wax ceiling and an oil range differ the lower governs. The 5% wastage and 4% spares allowances are assumptions stated at the point of use. Stock depth described on this page is the depth listed in September 2026 and moves as orders are placed; no minimum order, delivery time, freight rate or discount is stated anywhere here because none is published.
