Chunks, CSI 468 or Soy Pillar Wax: choosing the soy base for a strong melt
If your melts must be soy, the choice narrows to waxes that either publish a high fragrance load or set firm. None of CSI's soy waxes does both on paper. Here is what each one offers a melt maker, and what it does not.
Luxury Soy Wax Chunks: the highest stated soy load
The Chunks page states a maximum fragrance load of 13% of wax weight. That is the clearest published invitation to load a soy wax heavily. It is also a container and jar wax, made to grip glass, which is why it may cling to a clamshell. Price: ₹599.00 for 1 kg, or ₹5,990.00 for two 5 kg bags.
Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468: the only soy with a published melt point
CSI 468 states a load of up to 13%, a melt point of 50–53°C and a pour temperature of 58–60°C. For a melt maker that is useful: you know roughly where it softens and you have a stated pour window to work to. It is a coconut-soy blend sold for containers, so expect it to sit on the soft side too. It costs ₹650.00 per kilogram, falling to ₹637.00 at 5 and 10 kg.
Soy Pillar Wax: the firm set, with no load published
Soy Pillar Wax is made to release from moulds, which is exactly what a melt needs. But it publishes no fragrance load and no melt point, so any claim that it makes a strong melt is yours to prove. Start at 8% and step up, watching for oil on the surface.
Assuming CSI 464 is the obvious melt soy. It is the cheapest luxury flake at ₹507.40 per kilogram, but it states up to 10% fragrance, the lowest of these, and its page lists 80–90°C for both melt point and pour temperature. Ask CSI to confirm those figures before relying on them.
The blend that often wins
A soft, high-load wax firmed with microcrystalline can give you both properties. Try Chunks with micro in the stated 1–5% hardening range, which is 10 g to 50 g per kilogram of wax. Pour at 1%, 3% and 5%, keep the fragrance fixed, and choose the lowest micro level that releases cleanly. Stop as soon as release is reliable, since firmness can cost throw.
Whichever base you choose, keep below the fragrance figure on your oil's page as well as the wax's. Both are formulation limits, and the lower one applies.
