From first test pour to a Diwali stall: a melt starter's timeline
If you are starting now, in late September 2026, the festive season gives you a real deadline. Navratri begins on 11 October, Dhanteras falls on 6 November and Diwali on 8 November. That is enough time to launch a small, well-tested melt range, provided you do things in order.
Weeks one and two: test, do not stock
Place one small order covering everything: a firm wax such as Soy Pillar Wax at 1 kg for ₹600.00, two oils that state a melt load in 100 g bottles, such as Lavender at ₹540.00 and Citrus Lemon at ₹300.00, one mould and a few sample pieces of packaging. Buying all of it from one supplier means one parcel and, if you need one, one GST invoice, available on request. Pour test batches at 10%, rest them, then check for sticking and sweating.
Several small orders from several suppliers. Delivery cost adds up. One CSI reviewer, Manasa GN, wrote that "the delivery charges are very high which is restricting me". Group your items into fewer, fuller orders, and ask on WhatsApp what delivery to your pincode will cost before you pay.
Weeks three and four: samples and a price
Give sample melts to people who own warmers and ask for honest feedback on strength and how long each melt lasts. Cost each scent separately, because oil drives the cost of a melt far more than wax does. Then set prices.
From mid-October: production
Order your production wax and oils once the recipe is fixed, adding CSI's 10% festive buffer. CSI does not quote delivery times, so confirm timing on WhatsApp and order early rather than close to Dhanteras.
Labels are part of the kit
Wax melts are small, coloured and often shaped like sweets or chocolates, and scented ones can smell like food. Label every pack clearly as a wax melt for use in a warmer, not food, and to be kept away from children and pets. Include the scent, the batch and how to contact you. It protects your customers and makes you look like the business you are becoming.
Launching with every scent you like. Two or three tested scents on a stall sell better than ten untested ones. Add more after Diwali, once you know what people come back for.
