A broken candle in transit is not just a lost product - it is a lost customer. Air column wrap is the difference between a package that arrives intact and one that does not. One roll. Enough protection for dozens of shipments.
The CSI Inflatable Air Column Bubble Wrap Roll is a 250mm x 160 feet roll of PE+PA material air column wrap with a reverse air check valve design - air enters but cannot escape, so the wrap stays inflated for up to 2 months after filling. Each air column is independent: if one punctures, the others remain fully inflated and continue protecting your product. Rated to hold up to 70kg. Suitable for candles, glass fragrance bottles, ceramic vessels, wax melts, and any breakable product you ship. .

Why air column wrap - and why it matters for fragrance and candle shipping
Standard bubble wrap is a compromise. It is light, which is good - but the bubbles are small, the cushioning is limited, and when one bubble pops, the protection in that area is gone permanently. For candles, fragrance oils, and glass bottles - which combine weight, fragility, and liquid content - standard bubble wrap is often not enough.
Air column wrap works differently. Instead of hundreds of small, independent bubbles, it uses large inflated columns that distribute impact across a wider area and absorb shock more effectively than conventional bubble film. The reverse air check valve means each column stays inflated even if the fill nozzle is removed - and even if an adjacent column is punctured, the others remain fully intact.
Air column wrap vs standard bubble wrap - what the difference means for your shipments
Cushioning depth and impact absorption Air column wrap, once inflated, creates a significantly thicker protective layer than flat bubble film. The larger air volume per column absorbs more kinetic energy on impact - relevant for courier handling where packages are dropped, stacked, and compressed during transit.
Independent column design Standard bubble wrap loses protection the moment a bubble pops - and bubbles pop easily under compression. Air columns use a reverse valve that prevents air escape, and each column is sealed independently. A single puncture does not cascade - the rest of the wrap continues protecting your product.
Weight rating at 70kg The PE+PA material combination gives significantly higher strength than standard PE bubble film. The 70kg rating means this wrap can handle the compressive weight of stacked parcels on top of your package in a courier vehicle - the scenario that causes most candle and bottle breakage in transit.
Custom sizing from a single roll 160 feet of wrap means you cut exactly the length you need for each order - no waste, no pre-cut sizes that do not fit your products. Wrap a 200ml candle jar differently from a 500ml diffuser bottle, all from the same roll.

What makers use it to protect
Candle Jars
Glass jar candles are the most commonly broken item in fragrance brand shipments. Wrap each jar individually with 2-3 columns of air wrap before boxing - the column cushioning absorbs drop impact that standard bubble wrap cannot.
Fragrance Oil Bottles
Fragrance oil bottles - especially the smaller 15g and 50g sizes - move around inside courier packaging and crack at the neck. Air column wrap holds them stable and absorbs vibration during transit.
Reed Diffuser Sets
Diffuser bottles with protruding reed holders are particularly vulnerable. Wrap the bottle body and cap the top with an inflated column to protect the reed entry point - the most common breakage point in diffuser shipments.
Perfume Bottles
Spray pump necks and glass atomiser bottles are fragile at the collar. Air column wrap around the body plus a separate column over the pump head provides the dual protection these products need.
Wax Melt Packaging
Wax melts in gift boxes need the box contents to stay positioned rather than shift in transit. Use cut columns as internal padding between products in a multi-item gift box to prevent movement and breakage.
Gift Sets and Bundles
Multi-product gift sets - candle plus perfume, diffuser plus wax melt - need each item individually wrapped before boxing together. One roll of air wrap handles an entire batch of gift set orders.
How to use the air column wrap
-
1
Spread the air column flat Unroll the required length of wrap and lay it flat on a clean surface. The uninflated wrap is thin and easy to handle.
-
2
Clip to the required length Use a clip to clamp the wrap at the length you need. This prevents air from escaping past the inflation point during pumping.
-
3
Attach the pump to the inflation port Insert the nozzle of your air pump into the inflation port at the edge of the wrap. The reverse check valve holds air in once pumping begins.
-
4
Pump until columns are firm Pump until the air columns are fully inflated and firm to the touch. Remove the pump nozzle - the check valve seals automatically. The columns will remain inflated for up to 2 months.
-
5
Cut straight along the inflated column edge Use scissors to cut cleanly along the boundary between the inflated section and the remaining roll. The cut end seals automatically - no tape needed to hold the air in.
-
6
Wrap your product and seal with tape Wrap the inflated section around your product - candle jar, bottle, or fragile item - and secure with packing tape. Place the wrapped product in your shipping box with the column cushioning between the product and the box wall.
Packing tip - for candle and fragrance orders specifically
For glass candle jars, wrap the jar body with one inflated section and place a second smaller section over the lid before closing the shipping box. The lid-to-box-top gap is the most common impact point in courier drops. For fragrance oil bottles with pump tops or spray heads, wrap the body first, then fold a second piece over the pump or spray assembly - the top protrusion is almost always where glass necks fracture. Pre-inflate a batch of columns at the start of your packing session rather than inflating one at a time - it significantly speeds up order fulfilment when shipping multiple units.
Recommended wrap lengths by product type
| Product |
Recommended Length |
Method |
| Small candle jar (130g-200g) |
30-40cm |
Wrap jar body once, fold over base. One section sufficient for single jar. |
| Medium candle jar (200g-400g) |
40-55cm |
Wrap body with overlap, separate piece over lid. Box with column facing outward toward box wall. |
| Fragrance oil bottle (15g-100g) |
20-30cm |
Wrap bottle body. If pump or spray head present, add second piece over the top assembly. |
| Reed diffuser bottle (100ml-200ml) |
35-50cm |
Wrap bottle body fully. Cap top with separate folded section to protect reed opening. |
| Perfume bottle (30ml-100ml) |
25-35cm |
Wrap body, fold up over spray head. Glass atomiser necks are vulnerable - ensure pump is covered. |
| Multi-product gift set |
Individual wrap per item + internal padding |
Wrap each product individually. Use additional cut columns as internal box padding between items to prevent movement. |

Frequently asked questions
Is this the same as standard bubble wrap?
No - it is significantly more effective. Standard bubble wrap uses small pre-filled bubbles that pop permanently under pressure and offer limited cushioning depth. This air column wrap uses large inflated columns with a reverse check valve that maintains pressure even after the pump is removed. The columns are independent - a single puncture does not cascade through the rest of the wrap. The PE+PA material is stronger than standard PE bubble film and is rated to 70kg compressive load.
How long does it stay inflated after pumping?
Approximately 2 months after inflation, under normal conditions. The reverse check valve design prevents air escape once the pump nozzle is removed. You can inflate a batch of sections in advance and store them ready to use - they will not deflate between packing sessions.
What is included in the order?
One roll of air column wrap (250mm x 160 feet).
If one column pops, does the whole wrap deflate?
No. Each air column is sealed independently. A single puncture affects only that column - all adjacent columns remain fully inflated and continue providing protection. This is the primary advantage of the independent column design over standard bubble wrap where a single pop can create an unprotected area.
How much wrap does one roll give me?
160 feet (approximately 48 metres) of 250mm-wide wrap. Cut to the length you need for each product - no pre-cut sizes that do not fit. A small candle jar uses approximately 30-40cm per wrap, which means one roll can protect approximately 120-160 small candle jars depending on your wrapping method.
Is it suitable for fragrance oils and liquid products?
Yes. The 70kg load rating and independent column design make it suitable for fragrance oil bottles, spray bottles, and liquid-filled glass containers. For bottles with pump or spray tops, wrap the body first, then add a second piece over the top assembly - glass necks and pump collars are the most common fracture points in courier transit.
