Paraffin is the cheapest wax CSI lists and the one with the least written about it: neither paraffin page states a fragrance load. All the documented guidance you can work to sits on the oil pages instead — and it asks for less oil, a shorter cure and more care about heat than soy does.

Quick answers — read this first
Which fragrance oils are best for paraffin candles? The ones whose pages actually publish a paraffin figure and a paraffin cure. Four that do, all stating up to 6% and 0% vanillin: Verbena (₹4,720/kg), Cinnamon (₹5,310/kg), Palo Santo (₹6,018/kg) and Sage and Cedarwood.

How much fragrance oil does paraffin take? Up to 6% on 15 CSI oil pages, 6–8% on eight more — 12 to 16 g in a 200 g candle. Neither CSI paraffin page states a load, so the oil page is your only published number.

What is the specific risk? Heat. Semi Refined Paraffin Wax states "Melting Point: 80–90°C", and three measured flash points in the CSI range sit at or just above that band.

Is paraffin cheaper? Materially, yes. ₹41.36 of semi-refined wax in a 200 g candle against ₹110.22 of Luxury Soy Wax Chunks, plus four grams less oil. But the largest pack listed is 1 kg.
The short answer
Get your load from the oil page, not the wax page: neither Semi Refined Paraffin Wax nor Fully Refined Paraffin Wax Pellets states a fragrance load. Twenty-six oil pages do.
Do not read "Oil Content: 6–10%" as a fragrance load: on the semi-refined page that is a refining specification describing residual oil left in the wax itself. It is not permission to add 10% fragrance.
Mind the temperature, not the ceiling: the stated melting point is 80–90°C, the hottest band CSI publishes. Where an oil states a low flash point — 85°C, 93°C, 98°C on three CSI pages — follow the oil page's own instruction and add below it.

Bars are wax and oil only, at the same 200 g finished weight. A semi-refined paraffin candle at the stated 6% carries ₹87.74 less wax and oil than a Luxury Soy Wax Chunks candle at 8% — ₹68.86 of it in the wax, ₹18.88 in the four grams of fragrance you are not adding. That gap is the entire commercial case for paraffin, and it is real. What it does not buy you is documentation: neither CSI paraffin page publishes a fragrance load.
Straight answer
Which fragrance oils work in paraffin, and how much should you use when the wax page says nothing?
Choose from the 26 CSI oil pages that state a paraffin figure of their own, because neither paraffin listing states one. Fifteen of those pages say up to 6% for paraffin wax with a 24–48 hour cure, eight say 6–8%, and three go higher. Four that publish the full picture — a paraffin load, a paraffin cure, 0% vanillin and a measured flash point — are Verbena at ₹4,720/kg (Flashpoint: 200°C), Cinnamon at ₹5,310/kg (Flashpoint: 193°C), Palo Santo at ₹6,018/kg (Flashpoint: 93°C) and Sage and Cedarwood (Flashpoint: 190°C). At 6% in a 200 g candle that is ₹56.64 to ₹72.22 of fragrance. Two things then need care. First, temperature: Semi Refined Paraffin Wax states "Melting Point: 80–90°C", the hottest band CSI publishes, so an oil with a stated flash point of 85°C, 93°C or 98°C needs you to follow the oil page's own add-below instruction rather than the wax's melt figure. Second, supply: CSI lists paraffin only at 500 g ₹177 and 1 kg ₹354 for the fully refined pellets and 1 kg ₹220 for semi-refined — no 5 kg or 10 kg pack exists, so 100 × 200 g candles means nineteen separate kilos and a WhatsApp conversation. Prove the recipe first with six votives for ₹916.20.
One line: in paraffin the oil page is the only page with numbers on it — take its 6% figure, its 24–48 hour cure and its flash point seriously, and remember the largest pack CSI lists is one kilogram.

What CSI actually stocks in paraffin — and what its pages leave out

Say the awkward thing first: this is a soy-led catalogue. Two paraffin listings, no pack above a kilo, and not one published fragrance load between them.

If you are choosing a supplier for a paraffin production line, that matters more than any scent recommendation, so here it is plainly. CSI's wax collection holds fifteen waxes and most of them are soy or coconut-soy, sold in packs up to 10 kg and in one case 50 kg. Paraffin appears twice, and neither listing goes above 1 kg. That makes paraffin at CSI a genuine proposition for pillars, tealights, votives, blending and small runs — and a conversation rather than a click for anything larger.

Read the fragrance-load row twice, because it is the structural difference between this guide and the soy one. On Luxury Soy Wax Chunks you get a published ceiling of up to 13%, an add temperature and a pour temperature, and you cross-check that against the oil page. In paraffin there is nothing to cross-check against — the oil page's paraffin figure is the only published number you have, and it becomes your ceiling by default rather than by agreement.

Plan the supply before the scent. One hundred 200 g candles at 6% need 18.8 kg of wax. In semi-refined that is nineteen 1 kg packs at ₹220 — ₹4,180, with the spare kilo doing duty as your 3–5% planning allowance for spills and top-ups. In fully refined pellets it is ₹6,726. Both are workable for a first run and neither is how a production line should buy wax, because there is no listed 5 kg or 10 kg paraffin pack to step down into. "Oil Content: 6–10%" is not a fragrance load

This is the single most expensive misreading in paraffin candle making, and the two numbers look identical, which is exactly why it happens. The semi-refined page states "Oil Content: 6–10%". Several oil pages state a fragrance load of 6–10% for soy or 6–8% for paraffin. They are unrelated quantities that happen to share a range.

What each number actually describes
Oil content is a property of the wax as supplied — the residual oil left in the wax by refining. It is the main thing that distinguishes semi-refined paraffin from fully refined, and it affects colour, opacity, texture and burn character. It is a refining specification, not an instruction to you, and it does not add to or subtract from anything you pour. Fragrance load is a decision you make afterwards: the share of the finished candle that is fragrance oil. A 200 g paraffin candle at the stated 6% is 188 g of wax and 12 g of oil — and the wax's own 6–10% oil content has no bearing on that arithmetic.

Why it costs money: a maker who reads the wax's oil content as headroom tends to conclude that the wax "already has oil in it" and that the fragrance figure can therefore be pushed. It cannot. The published fragrance guidance for paraffin is the number on the oil page, and on fifteen CSI pages that number is up to 6% — the lowest wax-specific figure in the whole catalogue. What happens past a stated load is set out in can too much fragrance oil make a candle smell weaker.

Why the same page gives paraffin 6% and soy 10%

Twenty-six CSI oil pages publish a figure for each wax, and the pattern never reverses: paraffin is never given the higher number, and on 23 of the 26 it is given a lower one. Fifteen state up to 6% for paraffin, almost all against up to 10% for soy; eight state 6–8% against 6–10% or 8–10%; three give paraffin the same figure as soy. The pages state the numbers without explaining them, so the explanation below is offered as the standard account rather than as a claim from CSI.

The usual explanation for the lower figure is that paraffin is generally considered to release fragrance more readily than a natural wax, so a smaller quantity does the same job. That is consistent with what the pages prescribe and with what most makers report, but no CSI page states it as a reason and nobody publishes melt-pool temperatures, so treat it as an account rather than a fact. What you can treat as a fact is commercially useful on its own: at 6% instead of 8% you buy four grams less oil per 200 g candle, which on Verbena is ₹18.88 a candle and ₹1,888 across a hundred.

Do not carry a soy percentage across into paraffin. A recipe proven at 8% or 10% in soy is not a paraffin recipe with the wax swapped. If the oil page states up to 6% for paraffin, then 6% is your ceiling in that wax — the number that applies is the one for the wax in your pot, and the lower of the oil page's figure and any wax figure always wins. Pour a soy load into paraffin and you are outside published guidance with no documentation to fall back on, and the excess does not become throw. Two more differences come with the swap: the stated cure halves to 24–48 hours, and the wick has to be re-tested, because a different wax is a different melt pool at the same wick size.

The 80–90°C problem, and the three oils it applies to

Coconut soy pours at 58–60°C, soy chunks at 70–80°C, and semi-refined paraffin melts at 80–90°C. The hotter the wax, the shorter your list of safe oils.

Eighteen CSI oil pages state a measured flash point, and three of them are low enough to matter against paraffin's stated band. A flash point is the lowest temperature at which a liquid gives off enough vapour to form an ignitable mixture with air under test conditions — a handling and shipping classification, not a quality score and not a burn-off temperature. What makes it practical here is that the pages themselves tell you what to do about it.

The practical rule that falls out of this table is simple. Let the wax melt, then let it cool before the oil goes in. Paraffin's 80–90°C figure is a melting point, not an add temperature — nothing obliges you to add fragrance at the top of it, and the two paraffin pages state no add temperature at all, which leaves the decision entirely with you. Choose a figure comfortably below the lowest relevant flash point, stir for two full minutes, write the reading down, and you have turned an unpublished variable into a recorded one.

Fifty-six pages publish no flash point, and thirty-two publish a threshold that is not one. The line "Flash point > 93°C (suitable for alcohol-based products)" appears on thirty-two CSI listings. It is a threshold used to describe perfume-grade oils for alcohol-based formats — not a measurement of that oil — and it must never be treated as one, least of all in a wax whose stated melting band tops out at 90°C. Fifty-six pages state nothing at all. In both cases the answer is the same: ask CSI for the SDS figure on WhatsApp before you fix an add temperature, and never estimate from a similar scent. The CSI principle
When the wax page is silent, the oil page becomes the specification. Pick oils that have something to say.
In soy you have two published numbers to reconcile and the lower one wins. In paraffin you have one, so the quality of that one page is the whole of your documentation. An oil that publishes a paraffin load, a paraffin cure, a vanillin figure and a measured flash point is worth more in this wax than a cheaper oil that publishes none of them.

All four share a page template that happens to publish exactly what a paraffin maker needs: a paraffin load, a paraffin cure, a vanillin figure, a measured flash point and a wick recommendation. The value entry, and one of two here whose page claims strength in both directions: "Fragrance Strength: Strong in both cold and hot throw". Profile is stated as a single note — "Main Aroma: Crisp lemony verbena with herbal undertones" — with "Flashpoint: 200°C" and "Vanillin Content: 0% (No discoloration risk)", which matters in paraffin because the wax is usually poured white or dyed to a clean pastel. Load and cure are stated by wax: "Up to 10% for soy wax / Up to 6% for paraffin wax" and "Cure Time: 48–72 hours for soy wax / 24–48 hours for paraffin wax". It also names its styles — "Container candles, pillar candles, and wax melts" — and its wicks: "Cotton, Eco wicks or wooden wicks for steady, even burn". The page states "Flashpoint: 93°C" — only three degrees above the top of semi-refined paraffin's stated 80–90°C melting band, and the single most important number on this page if paraffin is your wax. Everything else is conventional and well documented: "Main Aroma: Earthy palo santo with soft citrus, warm amber, and a touch of incense", "Moderate to strong, offering a well-balanced throw", "Vanillin Content: 0% (No risk of discoloration)", "Up to 6% for paraffin wax", a 24–48 hour paraffin cure, and wicks given as "Eco wicks or wooden wicks for an even, clean burn". The cheapest qualification run in this series, because paraffin is the cheapest wax and 70 g votives use very little of it. Three oils, two votives each, at the stated 6%. The burn days are the point: the oil pages say paraffin is ready in 24–48 hours, so one votive of each pair gets burned at day 2 and the other at day 14 — which tells you whether that short cure is true for your candle or just true on paper. Six 70 g votives consume 394.8 g of wax and 25.2 g of oil, 8.4 g per oil, so a 15 gm trial bottle covers each one.

Which fragrance oils are best for paraffin candles?
The ones whose pages publish paraffin-specific guidance. Four CSI oils state a paraffin load, a paraffin cure, a vanillin figure and a measured flash point: Verbena (₹4,720/kg, Flashpoint: 200°C), Cinnamon (₹5,310/kg, 193°C), Sage and Cedarwood (190°C) and Palo Santo (₹6,018/kg, 93°C), all stating up to 6% for paraffin and 0% vanillin. At 6% in a 200 g candle that is ₹56.64 to ₹72.22 of oil. Twenty-two other CSI pages also state a paraffin figure.
How much fragrance oil should I use in paraffin wax?
Take the figure from the oil page, because neither CSI paraffin page states a fragrance load. Fifteen CSI oil pages state up to 6% for paraffin wax, eight state 6–8%, and three give paraffin the same figure as soy — Gilli Mitti and Mango Coconut at 6–10%, Cinnamon Vanilla at up to 13% of total wax weight. A 200 g candle at 6% is 188 g of wax and 12 g of oil. Never carry a soy percentage across: the number that applies is the one stated for the wax in your pot.
Does "Oil Content: 6–10%" mean I can add 10% fragrance?
No. On the Semi Refined Paraffin Wax page that is a refining specification — the residual oil left in the wax by refining, which is what distinguishes semi-refined from fully refined and affects colour, opacity and texture. It has nothing to do with how much fragrance oil you add, and it does not change the arithmetic: 200 g at 6% is still 188 g of wax and 12 g of oil. Fragrance guidance for paraffin comes from the oil page only.
At what temperature should I add fragrance oil to paraffin?
Neither CSI paraffin page states one, so you set it and record it. The semi-refined page gives "Melting Point: 80–90°C", which is a melting point and not an instruction to add at that heat. Melt fully, take the wax off the heat, and add at a figure comfortably below the lowest flash point in play — Gardenia's page asks for below 98°C in paraffin specifically, and Palo Santo states 93°C. Stir two full minutes and log the actual reading.
How long should a paraffin candle cure before testing?
The oil pages that split by wax state 24–48 hours for paraffin against 48–72 hours for soy — a supplier minimum before you are entitled to an opinion, not necessarily the optimum. Test it rather than assume it: burn one votive at 48 hours and an identical one at day 14 and compare the sheets. If day 14 wins clearly, build the longer wait into your schedule. Soy containers conventionally get 14 to 21 days.
Can I buy paraffin wax in bulk from CSI?
Not from the listed packs. CSI lists Fully Refined Paraffin Wax Pellets at 500 gram ₹177 and 1 kg ₹354, and Semi Refined Paraffin Wax at 1 kg ₹220 — there is no 5 kg or 10 kg paraffin pack, so 100 × 200 g candles at 6% means nineteen 1 kg packs (₹4,180 semi-refined).
