Best Fresh Fragrance Oils for Candle Making in India

What counts as a fresh oil at CSI

Woody oils lead with a material. Vanilla leads with a material. Fresh and aquatic scents lead with an impression — ozone, sea spray, steam-room air, wet leaves — which is built from light, airy synthetics and green notes rather than from one recognisable raw ingredient. That has two practical consequences for a candle maker. The first is that fresh accords sit high in the composition and behave a little like citrus, so cure and melt-pool area matter. The second is that fresh oils almost never carry vanillin, which is why they are the family that lets you sell a genuinely white candle.

Six oils in stock read as fresh or aquatic, and they split into three groups: two candle-grade oils that publish a measured flash point, a load, a cure time and a vanillin figure (Eucalyptus Spearmint and Blue Ocean); one that publishes a note pyramid and nothing else (Cucumber Green Tea); and three designer- or retailer-inspired oils written for fine fragrance first and candles second. Citrus overlaps with this family constantly, and the boundary is worth being deliberate about. Lemon, lime, verbena and lemongrass oils read as "fresh" to a customer but are bought and costed as citrus — those twelve are priced in best citrus fragrance oils for candle making in India. Gilli Mitti, the petrichor oil, opens on "Fresh rain, soft soil" and is the closest thing in the range to a monsoon fresh note, but its heart and base are patchouli and damp woods, so it is costed with the woods in best woody fragrance oils. Stock depth, and why it decides this family

The diagram at the top of this page is the most commercially important thing on it. Eucalyptus Spearmint and Cucumber Green Tea list five packs each and all ten are in stock. Blue Ocean lists five and four are in stock — only the 15 gm sample is gone, which is an inconvenience rather than a problem. The two perfume-grade marine oils list three packs each (50g, 100g and 1kg) and all six are available. But the retailer-inspired aquatic-woody direction lists five packs and has only the 100g in stock — its 15g, 50g, 500g and 1kg are all sold out, which means the 1kg rate of ₹11,220 on its page is not a price you can pay today. And the designer-inspired citrus-marine oil is sold out in all three of its listed sizes.

There is a positive reading too, and it is the reason this page leads with Eucalyptus Spearmint rather than with the most interesting smell. The two oils with complete pack ladders are also the two cheapest in the family, at ₹3.07 and ₹3.33 a gram. A fresh collection built on those two can be sampled at 15 gm, tested at 100 gm, scaled at 500 gm and produced at 1 kg without a single gap in the ladder — and that is worth more to a growing brand than a marine accord it may not be able to buy again.

What each fresh oil costs per candle

Per-candle figures use the price per gram of the largest pack actually in stock for each oil — which in this family is the whole point. Load follows the series convention: a 200 g candle at 8% is 184 g of wax plus 16 g of oil, at 10% it is 180 g plus 20 g. Some pages phrase the percentage as a share "of total wax weight"; keep one convention across every batch.

₹215.36 separates the cheapest fresh candle from the dearest at 8% — a ratio of 5.39 to one per gram, a wider band than the citrus, woody, sandalwood or oud families in this series. Across a hundred 200 g candles the oil bill runs from ₹4,908.80 to ₹26,444.80. That is not a quality gradient: it is the difference between a candle-grade single note blended for wax and a concentrated fine-fragrance oil that also happens to state a candle load. Both have a place, but they do not belong on the same shelf at the same retail price.

Four fresh oils worth ordering, priced

Each table shows every listed pack, its price, its price per kilogram and how many 150 g candles at 8% — 12 g of oil each — it pours. The 150 g jar is the workhorse format for fresh and spa candles in India, and at 12 g of oil a 15 g sample pack becomes one real test candle rather than a blotter.

The perfume-grade aquatics, priced

Designer-inspired aquatic-fruity oil — the dearest fresh oil in stock at ₹16.53 a gram. Stated "7-10% in soy, paraffin, or blended wax" with "Start at 7%", cure "48-72 hours", and a stated "Mild to moderate discoloration is possible due to vanilla, agarwood, and cinnamon content". Flash point is the shared threshold line only.

Retailer-inspired aquatic-woody direction — stated "8-10% in soy wax", cure "48-72 hours minimum", and a colour position of "no discoloration risk" with "yellowing in white or uncoloured wax is unlikely" because "the base is cedarwood and musk rather than vanilla or amber". Only the 100g is in stock, so ₹190.40 at 8% is your real figure today, not the ₹179.52 its sold-out kilo would imply.

Wax, colour and the glass

Two of these six pages state a numeric vanillin figure and both state zero. Eucalyptus Spearmint says "Vanillin Content 0% Zero discoloration risk - safe in white, light, and uncoloured wax". Blue Ocean says "Vanillin content 0% - no discolouration, safe for white and light wax". A third, the retailer-inspired aquatic-woody direction, gives no figure but states "no discoloration risk" and explains why: "the base is cedarwood and musk rather than vanilla or amber". That is the commercial permission slip for a white, frosted or ice-blue candle — and it is exactly what a spa, coastal or minimalist line needs, because those brands sell on the look as much as the scent.

The two exceptions state their risk honestly: "Mild discoloration is possible due to the light agarwood and vetiver content" on the icy marine oil and "Mild to moderate discoloration is possible due to vanilla, agarwood, and cinnamon content" on the aquatic-fruity one. Cucumber Green Tea states nothing either way, which is neither good nor bad news — it is a test jar.

Costing a 100-candle summer pair

Two scents, fifty candles each, 150 g jars at an 8% load — the smallest fresh collection that is worth photographing. A 150 g candle at 8% is 138 g of wax and 12 g of oil, so 100 candles need 13.8 kg of wax and 600 g of each oil.
