Two bags, two waxes: running a fair head-to-head from 2 kg
Two 1 kg bags cost exactly the same per kilogram as any other way of reaching 2 kg, so the only real decision is whether both bags should be the same wax. For most first-time buyers they should not. Five candles of one wax against five of another is the cheapest honest comparison you will ever run.
Pick a pair that answers a real question
Choose the pair by the decision you are actually facing. If you want to know whether a premium surface is worth paying for, pour CSI 464 against CSI 468: ₹93.36 of wax in a 200 g candle against ₹117.21. If you want to know whether you need more fragrance headroom, pour CSI 464 against Luxury Soy Wax Chunks, which state 10% and 13% respectively. If cost is the question, pour Eco Soy CSI 400 at ₹399.00 against Natural Soy Pearl Wax at ₹450.00, but note that neither publishes a fragrance load, so keep both at 8%.
Keep everything else identical
The test is only fair if the wax is the single variable. Use one fragrance oil, one wick type and one jar style, and pour both waxes on the same day in the same room. Ten 200 g candles need 160 g of oil at 8%, or 168 g with the allowance, so two 100 g bottles of the same oil cover it. Two different scents would make the comparison meaningless.
Mark each wax on the jar base, not the lid. Lids get swapped.
Mistake: pouring both waxes at the same temperature because it is convenient. CSI 468 publishes a pour temperature of 58–60°C. CSI 464's page lists 80–90°C for both its melt point and its pour temperature, so ask CSI which figure to pour at. Handle each wax to its own guidance, or you end up testing your thermometer rather than the wax.
Scoring without fooling yourself
After the cure, burn one candle of each wax for the same length of time, one after the other in the same room. Ask someone who did not pour them which smells stronger and which surface looks better, without telling them which is which. Write the answers down before you check the labels. Then weigh the winner against its wax cost per candle. A better surface you cannot charge for is not a better choice for your business.
