Is 50:50 to 70:30 a big enough change to burn-test again? Yes, but a confirm, not a new ladder. The total load stays at 8%, yet Dark Vanilla goes from 6.0 g to 8.4 g per 150 g candle (40% more) and Bergamot Amber falls 40%. That is a different fuel.

What is the confirm? Three candles on your approved wick (worked example: Eco C2) and three on the rung toward the heavier component (Cotton Braided), poured from one pre-mixed batch and burned to the bottom.

The approved 50:50 sits in the middle zone; 70:30 moves 20 points toward the heavier oil and lands in the zone that earns a Cotton Braided arm. The zone edges are our judgement, not a law. Below, the same 12 g of oil per candle split two ways, drawn to scale: the ratio changes the oil bill per candle by more than the wick step would.
Straight answer

Yes, it is enough to need a confirm, and not enough to need a full ladder. Your 8% load is unchanged, but the fuel is not: in a 150 g candle Dark Vanilla rises from 6.0 g to 8.4 g, 40% more of the heavier, vanilla-rich component, and Bergamot Amber falls by 40%. Heavier, vanilla-rich oils are commonly linked to needing more wick or building more carbon, so a 20-point shift toward that side is the case most likely to move the wick. Pour six candles from one pre-mixed batch (worked example: your 7.5 cm inside jar, 150 g at 8%, CSI 468): three on the wick your 50:50 passed on (Eco C2) and three on the next rung toward the heavier oil (Cotton Braided). Buy Dark Vanilla 100 g, Bergamot Amber 50 g and a Cotton Braided 10-pack (₹1,190.00) unless your 50:50 bottles still cover 50.4 g and 21.6 g. If all three C2 candles pass the full life, nothing changes in production but the oil split. What actually changed: the per-candle arithmetic

"Twenty points" undersells it. Per candle, the heavy component went up by two-fifths.

A ratio is a share of the blend, and the blend is a share of the candle. At 8% of a 150 g candle the blend is 12 g (and 138 g of wax), so the ratio splits those 12 g. The load applies to the combined blend, never to each component; it stays 8% here, so the total oil does not move, only its make-up.

That 40% is why the question deserves a burn. A 20-point shift reads as modest; per candle it adds 2.4 g of the component most commonly linked to a smaller flame or more carbon, and removes the same weight of the lighter, citrus-topped one. The same arithmetic on a much smaller change (10% of a blend, 1.2 g in a 150 g candle) is the small-blend-change post; why the share of a minor component matters more than the points suggest is the same idea.

Which component is "heavier"?
Neither page publishes viscosity or composition, so "heavier" is a judgement from what the pages do say. Dark Vanilla's page states "Vanillin present" and describes caramel, cream, dark amber and musk; Bergamot Amber's describes "sparkling bergamot and citrus top notes" over amber and musk, with no vanillin figure in the text we captured. Vanilla-rich gourmands are the oils most commonly linked to needing a wick step up. If your own 50:50 showed carbon or a slow pool, that is better evidence than either page.

Ceilings: Dark Vanilla states "candles (6-10%)", Bergamot Amber "6-10% for soy wax candles", CSI 468 "Fragrance Load Up to 13%". The blend's planning limit is the lowest stated maximum, 10%. A ratio change inside 8% leaves you well inside it; the ceiling only matters if you raise the load to make up for a lost note, and that is a load change with its own wick question.

When a ratio change needs no new wick purchase

Every ratio change gets three candles. Only some of them get a new wick.

Here is the rule we would use, labelled as judgement because no data set behind it exists for CSI oils. It decides one thing: whether the confirm order includes a second wick arm. It never decides whether to confirm at all.

Why 10 points? It is roughly where a shift stops being a tweak in grams (1.2 g of a 12 g blend in a 150 g candle) and starts to change which component dominates. Why does direction matter? Because the tendency linked to heavier fuel runs one way, toward too little flame. A shift toward the lighter component is more likely to leave the approved wick fine or slightly hot, and a hot reading is answered by the rung you already know is below, not by a new purchase. None of this replaces the three candles. How a business decides between a quick confirmation and a complete revalidation across many SKUs is the change-control hub; this page applies its quick level to one blend.

Mistake: treating "same load, same oils" as "same candle" and putting 70:30 straight into production on C2. Why it fails: the approval belonged to 50:50; the fuel has changed by 2.4 g of heavier oil per candle. Fix: three candles on C2 to full life before any production pour. Argued against our own interest: for a 60:40 tweak, do not buy Cotton Braided at all; three candles on your C2 is the whole test.

The worked example: your 7.5 cm inside jar (no in-stock CSI jar is 7.5 cm across: the three listings that state 7.5 cm give a width or an unspecified diameter, not an inside one, and all three are out of stock on 1 October 2026), 150 g at 8% of total weight, CSI 468, 50:50 approved on Eco C2 with three candles through full life. The 7.5 cm pool is 44.18 cm² on the inside diameter. Six candles need 50.4 g of Dark Vanilla, 21.6 g of Bergamot Amber (72 g of blend) and 828 g of wax.

Two cheaper variants. If you want no re-pour reserve, Dark Vanilla 50 g + 15 g (₹540.00, 65 g) covers six candles and leaves 14.6 g, 1 more candle: the order becomes ₹940.00, ₹250.00 less, with no room to repeat an arm. And if the rule above says no new wick (a 60:40 tweak, say), the confirm is three C2 candles: Dark Vanilla 50 g and Bergamot Amber 15 g (₹515.02) cover 25.2 g and 10.8 g, leaving 24.8 g and 4.2 g.

Materials consumed by the six candles: ₹1,121.64, of which the Cotton Braided arm is ₹564.66. One 70:30 candle costs ₹185.66 on C2 and ₹188.22 on Cotton Braided (oil ₹86.52, wax ₹89.70): excluding your jar, labour, freight, packaging and GST.

Don't buy the 500 g of Dark Vanilla for a ratio you have not confirmed: ₹3,840.00 for oil that only becomes production stock if 70:30 passes, at ₹7.68 a gram against ₹7.90 at 100 g. Argued against our own interest: the 100 g, or what is left on your shelf, is the right size for six candles. If 70:30 passes, the 1 kg is ₹7.65 a gram and covers 119 candles.

How far down a confirm must burn before it counts is the acceptance-depth post. If the result surprises you, keep the remaining pre-mixed blend sealed: it is the exact fuel the candles were poured with.

If C2 holds, the production order changes only in oil. If Cotton Braided wins, it changes in one wick too.

Notice which line is bigger: at 1 kg prices the ratio change itself adds ₹5.30 of oil per candle (₹78.50 → ₹83.80), more than twice the ₹2.56 a Cotton Braided wick adds. If 70:30 is a scent decision you are sure of, the wick is the small part of its cost. Reorder point: daily use × your lead time + safety stock; at 84 wicks a month that is about 2.8 a day, and with a 10-day order-to-bench time (yours; CSI publishes no lead times or stock depth) plus a week of cover, reorder at 48.

Don't stock Cotton Braided by the hundred while 50:50 is still selling on C2: two ratios on two wicks is two SKUs and two pour lines to keep apart. Whether one blend's extra wick is worth carrying is the extra-SKU economics post; whether nearby fragrances can share one wick is the sharing-trial post. And Cotton Braided is ₹12.00 a wick in every pack, so the 1,000-pack saves nothing.

The only wick this confirm adds. Its page says "engineered for large-diameter candles exceeding 8 cm", so in a 7.5 cm jar it may well run hot: that is exactly what the three candles are there to show, and it is why this is a test arm, not a switch. Flat at ₹12.00 a wick in every pack. Limitation: CSI lists no sized, tabbed wick between C2 and Cotton Braided, so if 70:30 fails low on C2 and runs hot on Cotton Braided, the next lever is the ratio or the load, not another wick.

The page describes wicks of "natural fibers like cotton and paper" that "pair perfectly with soy wax" and states no length, width or jar range in the text we captured. C1 matters only if you move the other way, toward Bergamot Amber, and the candle starts to run hot. The worked example's wax. The page states "Melting Point 50°C – 53°C", "Pour Temperature 58°C – 60°C" and "Fragrance Load Up to 13%", and claims "minimal frosting". Both oil pages say 6–10% for soy candles, so the blend's planning ceiling is 10%, not 13%: the lower stated maximum governs. 8% of total weight is 8.70% of wax weight, inside either reading. Frequently asked questions

Do I need to retest my wick if I change my fragrance blend ratio?
Yes, with a confirm rather than a full ladder: three candles on your approved wick, burned to the bottom. If the shift is large and toward the heavier component, add three on the next wick up in the same pour.
How do I calculate grams for a 70:30 fragrance blend?
Work out the blend first, then split it. A 150 g candle at 8% takes 12 g of blend; 70:30 is 8.4 g of the first oil and 3.6 g of the second. Six candles need 50.4 g and 21.6 g. Pre-mix by weight in one bottle.
Is a 10% change in blend ratio significant for candle burning?
It can be, especially if the share of a heavy component rises. Our judgement is that a shift of 10 points or less gets a three-candle confirm on the approved wick and no new wick purchase; larger shifts toward the heavier oil earn a second arm on the next wick up.
Which wick should I test when my blend gets more vanilla?
Your approved wick plus the next rung up. With CSI wicks the rungs are Eco C1, Eco C2 and Cotton Braided, with nothing between them; if you were approved on C2, the next rung is Cotton Braided, flat at ₹12.00 a wick.
Does changing the fragrance blend ratio change the maximum fragrance load?
Use the lowest stated maximum among the blend's oils and the wax. Dark Vanilla states "candles (6-10%)", Bergamot Amber "6-10% for soy wax candles" and CSI 468 up to 13%, so the planning limit stays 10% at any ratio of these two.
Can I go straight to production after changing the blend ratio if the candle smells right?
No. Smell is not burn. Pour the confirm, burn all three candles of each arm to about 1 cm left, and only then size production. The approval for the old ratio does not cover the new one.

Pre-mix the new ratio by weight, pour three on your approved wick and three on the rung toward the heavier oil, and burn every candle to about 1 cm left. If C2 holds, only your oil split changes.
