I Replaced My Coffee Fragrance Oil with Another Supplier’s Coffee Fragrance — Should I Revalidate the Wick Before Production?
शेयर करना
How much of the new oil should I buy first? Test size only. If the new coffee is our Roasted Coffee, buy 100 g (₹390.00): three 200 g candles at 8% use 48 g, a 20 g sealed sample leaves 32 g. The 50 g (₹230.00) is too small for a sample and dearer per gram.
Why keep sealed samples? One of the old oil and one of the new, labelled and stored sealed, so that if a later order behaves differently you have something to compare against. Wick changes and oil changes both get blamed on the wrong thing without them.
When do I buy the 1 kg? After all three new-oil candles pass the full life. Buying it first saves ₹7.78 on the test oil and puts ₹3,738.00 at risk.
Smell match is not burn match
A fragrance oil is a blend, and two suppliers' coffees are two different blends, however close they smell in the bottle. Coffee and other dark gourmands are among the oils makers commonly find build more carbon on a wick, or burn a smaller flame, than lighter oils at the same load; how strongly depends on the blend, which no supplier's page shows. CSI publishes no composition or reformulation notices for its oils, and the same is likely true of most suppliers. So the wick approval you hold is for the old coffee only. The full still-valid / must-retest matrix for a fragrance change is the fragrance-change hub; this page covers what to buy and keep while you run it.
| Evidence | Still valid? | What it means for the order |
|---|---|---|
| Jar, fill, wax, pour temperature | Yes | Nothing new to buy |
| Load against ceilings | Check the new page | Roasted Coffee states "candles (6-10%)": 8% fits; CSI 464 up to 10% (8.70% of wax) |
| Wick approval | No: earned on the old oil | Six candles on the current wick, old vs new |
| Throw and colour | No | Judged on the same six candles |
| Old oil left in stock | Your control | Keep 68 g: three candles and a sealed sample |
No old oil left? Then your control is a retained finished candle from the last approved batch, and the minimum test changes shape; that case is the supplier-change-without-old-oil post. If the new oil also looks noticeably thicker than the old one in the bottle, whether that should add a wick rung to this order is the more-viscous-oil post.
Buy the new oil at test size
Roasted Coffee's per-gram price falls steeply at first and then flattens. That shape is what makes "test small first" nearly free.
| Size | Price | Per gram | Oil per 200 g candle | Role in the switch |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 15 g | ₹93.22 | ₹6.21 | — | Sniff sample: rule it out on smell, not burn |
| 50 g | ₹230.00 | ₹4.60 | ₹73.60 | Three candles and 2 g left: no sample |
| 100 g | ₹390.00 | ₹3.90 | ₹62.40 | The test size: three candles, a sample, 32 g spare |
| 500 g | ₹1,890.00 | ₹3.78 | ₹60.48 | After approval, small lines |
| 1 kg | ₹3,738.00 | ₹3.74 | ₹59.81 | After approval; ₹42.00 cheaper than two 500 g |
The 100 g is 15% cheaper per gram than the 50 g, and it is the smallest bottle that holds three test candles and a retained sample. From 100 g to 1 kg the per-gram saving is ₹0.16; the 500 g is just ₹0.04 a gram dearer than the 1 kg. So for the 48 g of oil the test consumes, buying the 1 kg first would save ₹7.78. It would also leave 932 g of an unapproved oil in your store if the new coffee fails. That is the trade, in two numbers.
If the new coffee is Moca Coffee: check stock first
Moca Coffee is a different profile (cocoa, chocolate and tonka around the coffee) and is flat at ₹11.20 a gram in its 50 g and 100 g. On 1 October 2026 its 15 g, 500 g and 1 kg are out of stock. You can validate it with a 50 g (₹560.00: three candles at 48 g, 2 g left) but you cannot buy it in production quantity today, so a pass would leave you approved on an oil you cannot scale. Ask us on WhatsApp about restock dates before spending candles on it. The same caution applies to Coffee Blast, whose only in-stock size on 1 October 2026 is the 50 g.
The validation set: six candles, two samples
The worked example is your current jar at a labelled 200 g fill (16 g of oil + 184 g of wax at 8%) on the wick your old coffee is approved on, C2 here, in CSI 464. Diameter does not change the logic: the wick is not the variable, the oil is.
| Item | Count needed | Smallest in-stock pack | Price | Per unit | Left over |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Your old coffee (control) | 68 g: 3 candles + sample | your stock | already paid for | — | — |
| Roasted Coffee (new) | 68 g: 3 candles + sample | 100 g | ₹390.00 | ₹3.90 per g | 32 g |
| Your current wick (C2 here) | 6 | your stock, or C2 10 | ₹94.40 if short | ₹9.44 | 4 from a new 10-pack |
| Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 | 1,104 g | your stock, or 2 × 1 kg | ₹1,014.80 if short | ₹0.51 per g | 896 g |
| Two small sealable bottles | 2 | your own | — | — | — |
| Your jars | 6 | your production jars | yours | — | — |
| Cash order | new oil only | ₹390.00 | from nothing, excl. jars: ₹1,499.20 | ||
In materials the three new-oil candles cost ₹495.60 (₹165.20 each, at the 100 g price); the three controls cost ₹308.40 in wax and wicks, plus old oil you already own. The retained sample of the new oil is ₹78.00 of Roasted Coffee: the cheapest insurance on this page.
Retained samples: what to keep and why
Suppliers change raw materials; batches vary; and when a candle that used to burn well starts mushrooming, everyone suspects the wick first. A sealed sample of the oil that passed lets you pour a control candle later and see whether the oil moved. Keep one of the old oil as well: if the new coffee fails, the old sample is what you test the next candidate against. The quantities and storage below are our judgement, not a standard.
| What | How much | How | When it gets used |
|---|---|---|---|
| Old coffee | 20 g | Sealed, nearly full, cool and dark | If the new oil fails, as the control for the next candidate |
| New coffee, test bottle | 20 g | Same | When a later production order looks or burns differently |
| Each production order of the new coffee | 20 g | Same, labelled with order date | Compared against the test-bottle sample if a batch misbehaves |
| Finished candles | 1–2 per batch | Lidded, labelled | Burned alongside a suspect batch |
A 20 g sample holds more than one 200 g candle's worth at 8% (16 g), which is all a control needs. CSI publishes no lot data or batch certificates for its oils; if you want a batch reference recorded against your order, ask on WhatsApp. Wick changes need the same discipline: a new wick supplier's "same size" is a new wick, which is the wick supplier-switch post.
Reading the side-by-side
Screen at burn 3, decide only on the full life, three candles out of three: the gates are in the cluster hub's approval rule. Here the comparison is pair by pair, old against new, which makes small differences visible that a single-oil test would miss.
| What the pairs show | Reading | Purchase consequence |
|---|---|---|
| New matches old through the final third: carbon, flame, pool, soot | Validated on the current wick | Buy production oil (1 kg or 500 g); keep the wick SKU as it is |
| New carbons or soots more; flame and pool otherwise similar | Same wick, different behaviour | Do not buy the kilo. Cost the levers first: another coffee, a lower load or a smaller wick |
| New pool slower to reach the glass, smaller flame | Possibly heavier on this wick | Not a production oil yet; a three-candle up-rung arm is the next order |
| New runs a deeper pool or taller flame late | Possibly lighter on this wick | A three-candle down-rung arm; a cheaper wick may follow |
| Old and new both misbehave | Not the oil | Check wax bag, wick pack and centring before blaming either oil |
On coffee specifically, two related posts in the wick series go deeper than this page should: whether a lower coffee load would calm a mushrooming wick is the 8 cm coffee load step-down post, and how to keep throw while correcting soot is the coffee soot-versus-throw post. How far down a test candle has to burn before it counts is the acceptance-depth post.
From 100 g to production
Once all three new-oil candles pass, size the oil order from production. Worked example: 150 candles a month at 8% in a 200 g fill is 2,400 g of Roasted Coffee a month, ₹8,971.20 at the 1 kg per-gram price. Bought as two 1 kg and a 500 g it is ₹9,366.00 for 2.5 kg; as three 1 kg, ₹11,214.00. A 1 kg bottle lasts about 12.5 days at that rate. With a 10-day order-to-bench time (your figure; CSI dispatches from Pune and publishes no lead times or stock depth) and a week of cover, reorder oil when you are down to about 1,360 g, and take a 20 g retained sample from every new bottle.
The wick order does not change if the new coffee passes on the current wick: same SKU, same reorder point. If it needs a different rung, it becomes its own line with its own approval; whether to stock that wick for one oil is the odd-one-out SKU post. If you are switching an oil and racing a date, buying the next rung in the same shipment saves a lead-time cycle, as costed in the lavender-to-oud switch kit.
What to buy for the validation
Five items, chosen on page statements, price and stock on 1 October 2026. CSI publishes no wick-performance data, so nothing here is ranked on burn results. Candle counts use 16 g of oil per 200 g candle at 8%. A third CSI coffee, Coffee Vanilla Tobacco (page: "7-9% soy wax (strong throw at lower loads)"; 50 g ₹449.00), is a different profile, not a like-for-like replacement.

CandleMakingSuppliesIndia sells the coffee oils, wicks, wax and thermometer named here, and does not sell finished candles. This page still tells you to buy our 100 g rather than our 1 kg until the test is done, that one of our coffees cannot be bought at production size today, and that our oil, like anyone's, has to earn its place beside the one it replaces.
Every price was verified on CSI's live store on 1 October 2026. Stock was checked per size: Moca Coffee 15 g, 500 g and 1 kg, Coffee Blast in every size but 50 g, and the Eco C1 10-pack are out of stock on that date and are flagged where they appear; every other size shown is in stock. Oil, wax and wick wording is quoted from the product pages; where a page is silent in the text we captured, such as Moca Coffee's candle load, we say so.
The 200 g fill, the 20 g sample size, the six-candle design, the outcome readings, the 150-candle month and the 10-day lead time are our judgement or worked examples; CSI publishes no oil composition, lot data or wick-performance data.
