When eight fragrances share one jar, the jar is a shared material like the wax. Add the pour counts, apply breakage once, round once — and keep only the oils per fragrance.
15 jars
saved this month by ordering 265 jars for the range instead of 280 by fragrance · ₹1,062.00 at ₹70.80 a jar · re-checked 4 October 2026
Quick answers — read this first
How many jars? Σ candles poured × (1 + breakage), rounded once. Here 259 × 1.02 → 265, bought as 26 × pack of 10 + 1 × pack of 5.

What does ordering by fragrance cost? Rounded per fragrance to 5-packs, 280 jars — 15 extra, ₹1,062.00 this month.

How big should the jar buffer be? Smaller than eight separate buffers: 19.1 pooled against 51.8 summed, on a labelled 20% swing — but use the sum in festive weeks.

What about the oils? They stay per fragrance — eight orders, eight pack decisions. A new fragrance's production oil waits for its trial; the shared jars do not.
The short answer
Answer: Keep the production plan per fragrance, but add up candles poured across all eight before calculating jars; apply breakage once to the total, subtract jars on hand and round once to real packs. Order the oils separately.
Why: Per-fragrance ordering rounds and applies breakage eight times and keeps eight buffers. Here it buys 15 extra jars (₹1,062.00) in one month.
Method: Plan per fragrance → poured per fragrance → total → × breakage → pooled buffer → minus stock → packs; oils one by one. A jar reorder point sets the timing.
One jar, eight fragrances: order the jar once, by total Bars: jars needed per fragrance (with QC, rejects, 2% breakage) · dashed caps: extra jars if each is rounded to its own 5-pack 49 Mango 44 Peach 39 Fallen 33 Gardenia 33 Honeydew 28 Apple 23 Chocolate 18 Autumn Lighter bar: Autumn — jars bought now, its oil after the trial ONE JAR LINE 259 poured × 1.02 = 265 jars 26 × pack of 10 + 1 × pack of 5 ₹18,762.00 By fragrance in 5-packs: 280 jars 15 extra · ₹1,062.00 After the wax, the jar is the costliest line in this candle — and the only one that breaks. Count it once for the range, apply breakage once, round once — and keep the eight oils as eight separate orders.
Jars needed per fragrance (bars) against the extra jars each fragrance would add if rounded to its own 5-pack (dashed caps), and the single combined jar line. The plan is the reader's example; the White Matte jar is a candidate for the reader's 8 cm jar — CSI does not publish its diameter.
Straight answer
I use the same 8 cm jar across eight candle fragrances — how do I calculate one combined monthly jar purchase instead of ordering by fragrance?
Plan per fragrance, but count jars for the range: add up candles poured across all eight, apply breakage once to the total, subtract jars on hand and round once to real packs. Candles poured per fragrance = (units + QC) ÷ (1 − reject rate). On this page's example — 240 candles across eight fragrances, one QC candle each, 3% rejects, 2% breakage — that is 259 poured × 1.02 = 265 jars, bought as 26 × pack of 10 + 1 × pack of 5 of the White Matte Glass Jar for ₹18,762.00. Ordered fragrance by fragrance in 5-packs it would be 280 jars, ₹1,062.00 more. Keep one pooled jar buffer (smaller than eight separate ones, except in festive weeks), set one jar reorder point, and order the eight oils separately. CSI does not publish this jar's diameter — check it against your 8 cm specification and weigh a test pour.
One line: plan in fragrances, buy glass in totals — breakage and rounding once, oils one by one.
For the example on this page — 240 candles a month in one 200 g jar across eight fragrances — the combined jar order is 265 jars (26 × pack of 10 + 1 × pack of 5) for ₹18,762.00, against 280 jars if each fragrance were ordered on its own. The whole month's CSI order, with wax, seven oils, a trial oil and wicks, is ₹71,871.16. The candidate jar here is the White Matte Glass Jar at ₹708.00 for 10.
Buy White Matte Glass Jars

Why the jar is ordered by total, never by fragrance

Eight fragrances do not need eight jar orders. They need one jar count, one breakage allowance and one rounding.

When every fragrance in a range uses the same container, the jar stops being a per-SKU material and becomes a shared one, like the wax. Yet jars are often ordered the way oils are — fragrance by fragrance — because the production plan is written that way. That habit costs money three ways. Each fragrance gets rounded up to a whole pack, so the roundings add up. Breakage gets applied eight times, each time rounded up to a whole jar. And a buffer kept per fragrance is bigger in total than one buffer kept for the range, because the fragrances rarely all run high in the same week.

The reader's container is an 8 cm jar. CSI does not publish internal diameters for any of its jars, so this page prices the White Matte Glass Jar as the candidate and treats the 200 g fill as the reader's weighed fill — measure the diameter and weigh a test pour before you commit to it. The method works for any jar from any supplier; only the pack prices change.

The CSI principle
Jars needed = (Σ candles poured across fragrances) × (1 + breakage), rounded up once.
The oils stay per fragrance. The jar, like the wax, is the sum of the range.

Step 1: candles poured per fragrance

The reader's example plan is 240 candles a month across eight fragrances, from 45 Mango Coconut down to 15 Autumn, a new addition this month. One QC candle per fragrance and an example 3% reject allowance turn that into candles poured. Breakage of 2% is then applied to the total — glass breaks in storage, washing and handling, not in a particular fragrance.

Reader's example plan · QC 1 per fragrance · rejects 3% · breakage 2% on glass
Eight fragrances, one jar
Fragrance Plan Poured Jars if counted alone (× 1.02, rounded) Rounded to own 5-pack
Mango Coconut 45 48 49 50
Peach Melon Berry 40 43 44 45
Fallen Leaves 35 38 39 40
Gardenia 30 32 33 35
Honeydew Melon 30 32 33 35
Apple Cinnamon 25 27 28 30
Chocolate Fudge 20 22 23 25
Autumn 15 17 18 20
By fragrance 240 259 267 280
Combined 240 259 259 × 1.02 = 264.18 → 265 265 (26 × pack of 10 + 1 × pack of 5)

Applied per fragrance and rounded each time, breakage alone asks for 267 jars instead of 265. Rounded to each fragrance's own 5-pack, the order becomes 280 jars. Counted once for the range, it is 265. At ₹70.80 a jar, the per-fragrance habit costs ₹1,062.00 more this month for 15 jars that sit on the shelf — and the same thing happens again next month.

The per-fragrance jar order: "45 Mango Coconut, so ten packs of 5 for Mango Coconut." It feels tidy because the production plan is per fragrance, but the jar does not know which oil goes in it. Fix: keep the plan per fragrance; total the jars across the plan before you round. The same is true for wax — the 20-SKU wax post — and for a wick used across the range — the three-wick post.

Step 2: one buffer for the range, not eight

Eight fragrances rarely run high in the same week. One shared jar buffer can be smaller than eight separate ones.

Suppose you want enough spare jars to cover a fragrance selling 20% above plan — a labelled example. Kept per fragrance, that is 20% of each fragrance's poured count, 51.8 jars in total. But a common inventory rule of thumb says that when demand swings are independent, the buffer for the combined demand is the square root of the sum of the squared individual buffers — here 19.1 jars. The jar line can carry a smaller buffer than the eight fragrances would separately, because a high week for one fragrance is often a quiet week for another.

Labelled example · 20% swing per fragrance · rule of thumb assumes independent swings — festive weeks are not independent
Per-fragrance buffers against one pooled jar buffer
Fragrance Poured Buffer at 20%
Mango Coconut 48 9.6
Peach Melon Berry 43 8.6
Fallen Leaves 38 7.6
Gardenia 32 6.4
Honeydew Melon 32 6.4
Apple Cinnamon 27 5.4
Chocolate Fudge 22 4.4
Autumn 17 3.4
Sum of eight buffers 259 51.8
Pooled buffer (√Σ buffer²) 19.1

Two honest caveats. The rule of thumb assumes the fragrances move independently. In the weeks before Diwali, or when a single promotion lifts the whole range, they move together and the pooled buffer is too small — use the sum for those months. And the oils cannot pool: each fragrance's oil buffer stays its own. Which materials deserve safety stock and a shared wax versus a slow oil build on exactly this difference.

A reorder point for the jar line
With 265 jars a month, the range uses about 8.8 jars a day. CSI publishes no lead times; with a labelled example of 7 days' lead and 7 days' safety, the jar reorder point is 8.8 × 14 = 124 jars. Count jars when you count wax, and reorder the moment the shelf reaches it — separate reorder points per material explains why glass often needs the longest one.

Step 3: the month's order — one jar line, eight oil lines

The jar line is now one number. The wax is shared too: Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468, whose page states a melting point of 50–53°C, pour at 58–60°C and a fragrance load of up to 13%; 8% is well inside it. The wick is the reader's tested Eco Thick C2 in this jar (CSI publishes no wick-size-per-diameter chart). Only the oils stay per fragrance, each rounded to its own cheapest in-stock packs. Lids for the White Matte jar are not a CSI listing; they appear as an example line.

Look at the oil lines and you can see why they cannot be pooled the way jars can. Each lands on its own packs: Honeydew Melon reaches its 500 g bottle, whose per-gram price (₹3.40) is 22% below its 100 g (₹4.35); Gardenia is priced the same per gram from 100 g to 1 kg, so it is bought in 100 g bottles; Chocolate Fudge's 100 g was out of stock on the 24 September pull (stock unchanged on the 4 October re-check), so its line is covered by 7 × 50 g + 2 × 15 g rather than an unavailable size. Eight oils, eight decisions.

At this order's rates, the jar is 27% of the material cost of a Mango Coconut candle and 27% of a Fallen Leaves one — second only to the wax (₹117.21, 44% of the Mango Coconut candle). Unlike the wax, glass breaks, takes shelf space and cannot be remelted into next month's batch, which is why the jar line deserves the most care in counting, breakage and buffer, and why the cash-locked-in-stock post treats glass as its own decision.

Buy now, buy after testing

Autumn is new this month and has not yet passed in this jar, wax and wick. The addendum rule for this series is simple: materials shared across options can be bought now; production quantities of an untested oil (or wick) wait. So the jars, the wax and the Thick C2 wicks for all eight fragrances are bought today — if Autumn fails, those jars, that wax and those wicks simply go to the other seven. Autumn's own production oil waits for three trial candles.

Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. Per-fragrance jar ordering sells more jars. This page shows the arithmetic that buys fewer, and says plainly that our 10-pack is the same price per jar as the 5-pack.

Jar, wick and sticker prices are those wick, jar and sticker packs re-checked 4 October 2026. Oil prices are CSI live pricing, pulled 24 September 2026, stock re-checked 4 October 2026. Soy-wax prices are CSI live pricing, re-checked 1 October 2026. Every count, buffer and rupee figure is arithmetic on those prices.

The eight-fragrance plan, the 200 g fill, the QC candles, 3% rejects, 4% pour loss, 2% breakage, the 20% swing, the 7-day lead time and 7 safety days are labelled examples; the pooled-buffer formula is a common inventory rule of thumb that assumes independent swings. CSI publishes no jar diameters (except the published 85 g tin and 50 g velvet jar fills) and no lead times. Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate how many candle jars to order?
Add candles poured across every fragrance that uses the jar (units plus QC, divided by 1 − reject rate), multiply by (1 + breakage), subtract jars on hand and round up once to real pack sizes.
How much breakage should I allow for glass candle jars?
Use your own measured rate; this page uses a labelled 2%. Apply it once to the total jar count, not to each fragrance, and never to wax or oil.
What size is the White Matte Glass Jar?
CSI does not publish its internal diameter or fill weight. Measure it and weigh a test pour; the only CSI containers with published fills are the 85 g Golden Aluminium Tin and the 50 g Heart Cutout Velvet Jar.
Should I keep spare jars for each fragrance?
Keep one pooled buffer for the range. On a labelled 20% swing it is 19.1 jars against 51.8 for eight separate buffers — but carry the larger figure in festive weeks, when the whole range moves together.
Can I buy jars before I finish testing a new fragrance?
Yes, if the jar is shared with fragrances already selling — unused jars go to the rest of the range. Buy the new fragrance's production oil only after its trial candles pass.
Is the White Matte jar cheaper in packs of 10?
No — ₹354.00 for 5 and ₹708.00 for 10 are both ₹70.80 a jar. The 10-pack only means fewer packs to open.

Non-price figures and assumptions: CSI convention: fragrance load is a share of the finished candle weight (oil = W × L; wax = W × (1 − L)). Allowances are applied in one order — test candles as whole candles, reject allowance by dividing by (1 − reject rate), pour loss on wax and oil only, breakage on glass only, then rounding up to listed in-stock CSI packs — and no allowance is applied twice. The 8 cm jar is the reader's specification and the 200 g fill the reader's weighed fill; CSI publishes no jar internal diameters or fill weights except the Golden Aluminium Tin (85 g) and the Heart Cutout Velvet Jar (50 g wax capacity), no wick-size-per-diameter chart, no throw or burn-test data, no lead times, no volume discount and no 25 kg or 100 kg pack; container soy bags stop at 10 kg and Natural Soy Pearl goes to 50 kg. CSI 468's 50–53°C melting point, 58–60°C pour, 13% ceiling and 60-month shelf life are as CSI's product page states them. The plan, QC candles, 3% rejects, 4% pour loss, 2% breakage, 20% swing, 7-day lead time and 7 safety days are labelled examples; the pooled-buffer square-root rule is a general inventory rule of thumb. Costs exclude lids, labels, packaging, labour, freight and GST. Diwali 2026 falls on 8 November.
