I Want a Candle Jar I Can Reorder for Years — What Should I Ask the Supplier Before Building My Entire Product Line Around One Container?
शेयर करना
What should I keep? Your own measured spec sheet, six unpoured reference jars with lids from the first lot, the supplier's written answers, and photos, invoices and lot marks. Without them you can't prove, or even notice, that a reorder has changed.
What is a bad sign? Vague answers to the continuity questions, listing text that contradicts itself, sister colours of the same jar going in and out of stock, and stale dispatch notes in titles. None is a reason to walk away alone; each is a reason to keep references and ask more.
What about CSI's jars? Our listings don't state inside dimensions, tolerances or continuity commitments, and 20 of our 72 container listings were out of stock on 26 September 2026. Ask us these questions on WhatsApp, in writing, like you would ask anyone.

The twelve questions, and what a good answer sounds like
Send these before your first bulk order, by message or email so the answers are dated and on record. No supplier can promise a jar forever, and a good one will say so. What you are looking for is specific, honest answers; what you should worry about is vagueness on the questions that matter most to you.
| # | Question | Why it matters | A good answer | A caution |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Continuity | ||||
| 1 | Is this a regular stock line or a one-off lot? | One-off lots end without warning | "Regular line, restocked" with some history | "Limited stock", clearance, "while it lasts" |
| 2 | How often is it restocked, and when was it last out of stock? | Tells you how much stock you must hold | A specific pattern, even if imperfect | "Don't know"; frequent gaps in colours you need |
| 3 | Will you tell me before it is changed or discontinued, and can I place a last-time buy? | Notice is what turns a crisis into a plan | Yes, with notice in writing | No commitment at all |
| Consistency | ||||
| 4 | Is it made from the same mould and by the same maker each time? Will you tell me if that changes? | A new mould can change inside diameter, base and lid fit | Same source, and yes to notice | "Similar jars from different sources" |
| 5 | Can you give inside dimensions, wall and base thickness, or a tolerance? | Wick and fill depend on inside figures | A spec sheet; or a straight "no, measure samples" | Outside figures presented as if they were inside ones |
| 6 | Do colour, finish or coating vary between lots? | Coloured, matte and frosted jars can shift | Yes or no, with photos of the current lot on request | "All the same" with no way to check |
| 7 | Are lids from the same source as the jars, and will future lids fit today's jars? | Lids are often sourced separately | Same source, or a clear answer on fit | Lids "sometimes change" |
| Capacity | ||||
| 8 | How many can you supply from stock at once, and on what notice for more? | Your growth has to fit their stock | A number and a lead time | A number far below your next season |
| 9 | Can you reserve stock or schedule deliveries for me? | Smooths supply without you holding it all | Yes, or a clear alternative | Only first-come, first-served |
| 10 | Does the price change with quantity, and how often do prices change? | Budgeting a product for years | Current structure stated plainly | A different price every time you ask |
| Records | ||||
| 11 | Can you mark a lot or date on cartons, or on the invoice? | Traces a problem to a lot | Yes, or dispatch date as a proxy | No way to tell lots apart |
| 12 | How are faulty or out-of-spec lots handled? | You will need it once | A written process: evidence, timeline, remedy | "Contact us if there's a problem" |
Two notes on reading the answers. First, a "no" can be a good answer. "We don't have inside dimensions; please measure samples" is more useful than a confident figure that turns out to be the outside. Second, the continuity questions (1 to 3) matter more the more of your range sits on one jar. If one jar carries every product, a vague answer to question 3 is one of the biggest risks in your business, and it is worth planning for directly: the discontinuation-protection guide sets out the continuity plan (second-source qualification, safety stock, designing around common diameters). Questions to ask before your very first wholesale order more generally are in the 30-to-500 wholesale checklist.
What a listing can tell you before you ask
Before you send the questions, read the listing and its sister listings for signals. None is proof; each is a reason to ask a sharper question. Our own listings are the most honest examples we can give, so here are five, as they stood on 26 September 2026.
| Listing | What it states | Family in stock | Contradictions or gaps | Ask first |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Clear Glass Jar with Golden Lid (150 gram) | "150g fill capacity", height 8 cm, "outer diameter 7cm", base about 6.5 cm, "Safe for hot pour up to 85°C" | Same stated dimensions across 6 colour listings; 5 in stock, Amber out | Page calls the shape "curved" and "straight-sided"; sister titles carry stale "Deliveries Starting 5th Dec" | Q4, Q5, Q7 (same source for glass and lid?) |
| White Matte Glass Jar (8 × 7 cm family) | "a fill weight of 200 ml", "Height 8 cm width 7 cm", "withstand high heat" (no figure) | 13 of 16 colour and finish listings in stock | Width not stated as inside or outside; some sister pages carry copied text | Q5, Q6 (colour and finish between lots) |
| 200ml Salsa Glass Jar with 63mm Lug Cap | "The 200ml capacity"; "Heat Resistant Glass" wording, no figure | Clear and coloured versions in stock | No height or diameter; several coloured versions' web addresses name a different colour | Q5 (any dimensions at all), Q7 (lug-cap source) |
| Apothecary Glass Candle Jar with Dome Lid | Fill "~500 g - 700 g (2 sizes)", 10.8 cm without lid, rim and base about 10 cm, "Safe for hot-pour up to 85°C" | Both sizes in stock | One set of dimensions given for two sizes | Q5 (dimensions for your size) |
| Glass Jar With Bamboo Lid and Amber Glass Jar with Bamboo Lid | Fill 200 g, 8.5 × 7.5 cm | Both out of stock | — | Q1 to Q3: will they return, and when? |
The last row is the point. On 26 September 2026, 20 of CSI's 72 container listings (28%) were out of stock, including the Glass Jar With Bamboo Lid, the Amber Glass Jar with Bamboo Lid, the White Iridescent 300 g bamboo-lid jar, and the 250 g and 300 g borosilicate jars (the Green Iridescent 300 g bamboo-lid jar and the 600 g borosilicate were in stock). We are not telling you whether those will return; we are telling you that containers go out of stock, ours included, and that a range built on one jar should be built with that in mind. A jar whose shape exists in several colour listings, several of them in stock, is a better starting signal than a single listing, but it is still only a signal.
Your own spec sheet: the document the supplier won't write for you
A spec sheet is a single page that defines "this jar" in numbers you measured, plus the band each number may move within before you treat a delivery as a different jar. The measurements themselves, and how to take each, are set out in the bulk measurement checklist; the bands come from your own burn tests, not from us. Here is what the sheet should hold.
| Field | Measured how | Band set by | Why it's on the sheet |
|---|---|---|---|
| Supplier, listing name, link, date | Copy exactly; screenshot the listing | — | Listings change; your screenshot doesn't |
| Inside diameter at fill line (and mid, base) | Calliper, two readings at right angles, on 4 jars | Your wick bracket and burn tests | The wick depends on it |
| Height, rim outside diameter | Flat surface; calliper on the rim | Your label and lid | Labels and lids depend on it |
| Water to your fill line (g) | Tared scale, 4 jars | Your declared net weight and fill routine | Fill weight and labelling depend on it |
| Empty weight (g) | Scale, 4 jars | A few grams either way (your judgement) | A heavier or lighter lot often means a changed mould |
| Wall and base (visual, or calliper at the rim) | Look down from the rim; measure the rim wall | Your heat tests | Heat behaviour and fill depth |
| Colour and finish | Photo beside a reference jar under the same light | Your brand | Coloured and frosted jars can drift |
| Lid: type, fit, gasket | Fit on 4 jars; tilt test | Your packing and shipping | Lids are often sourced separately |
| Approved wick, fill weight, load | From your burn tests | — | Ties the jar to the recipe |
| Supplier's written answers | Dated messages, filed | — | What they told you, when |
Send a copy to the supplier. Some will confirm or correct it, which is useful in itself; either way, the next time you reorder you can say "same as the jar on this sheet", and mean something measurable. If a supplier offers you inside dimensions, a tolerance or a spec sheet of their own, file it alongside yours and check it against your measurements; a published figure is still worth verifying on your own jars. Ask us for anything we can add for the CSI jar you choose.
What to keep, and why six jars
Keep six unpoured jars from the first lot, with their lids, labelled "REFERENCE, do not pour", boxed and stored somewhere cool and dry where they won't be borrowed on a busy day. Six is our judgement, not a rule: three to compare against future lots (so one breaking doesn't leave you with nothing), and three to burn side by side with a future lot if you ever need to prove a difference. In the Clear 150 g jar that costs ₹566.40; in the White Matte, ₹424.80.
| Keep | From | For |
|---|---|---|
| 6 reference jars with lids, unpoured | The first lot you approved | Comparing every future lot; side-by-side burns if a lot is disputed |
| 2 jars from each later lot, unpoured | Every reorder | Seeing slow drift across years, not just against the first lot |
| Spec sheet, current and all past versions | Your measurements | A dated record of what "the same jar" meant |
| Listing screenshots | The day you order | Listings change; what you ordered against doesn't |
| Written answers to the twelve questions | The supplier | What was said about continuity and notice |
| Invoices, carton labels, lot or date marks, photos | Every delivery | Tracing a problem to a lot |
| Burn-test logs for the approved wick | Your testing | What must be repeated if the jar changes |
It is a small cost against what it protects: 1.2% of a single 500-jar reorder (₹47,200.00) in our Clear 150 g example. The same record is what the incoming checks in the jar QC checklist compare against, so the effort serves both.
Every reorder: the ten-minute comparison
The routine below takes about ten minutes per reorder (our estimate) and catches a changed jar before a whole lot goes into production. It is not a full QC pass; it is the continuity check that sits on top of it.
If a lot comes in different, the sort-and-test approach for a delivery with mixed diameters is in the 500-jar diameter guide, and what batch-to-batch variation does to wick testing over time is in the batch-variation guide.
Red flags in the answers, and what to do about them
| Red flag | What it may mean | Proportionate response |
|---|---|---|
| No answer to question 3 (notice before discontinuing) | You will find out when it's gone | Hold more stock of that jar; start qualifying a second jar early |
| Listing text contradicts itself (colour, lid, shape) | Copied descriptions or a changed product | Confirm the detail in writing before each order; check it at intake |
| Sister colours of the same jar keep going out of stock | Irregular supply of that family | Ask question 2 directly; don't pick a colour that is often out |
| Stale dispatch text in the title | Listing not updated after a stock event | Ask for a dispatch date for every order |
| A reorder differs from the reference | New lot, new mould or a new source | Quarantine, ask question 4, burn-test before use |
| Outside dimensions offered as the answer to question 5 | No inside figures exist | Measure yourself; keep bands on your own sheet |
Every one of these appears somewhere on our own listings, as the table in the listings section shows, which is exactly why we recommend the questions and the records for any supplier. The response to a red flag is rarely "switch now". Usually it is "keep more references, hold a little more stock, and have a second jar measured and tested before you need it". That second-jar work, and how to size a last-time buy when notice does come, belong to the continuity plan in the discontinuation-protection guide; if stockouts are already frequent, the frequent-stockouts guide weighs holding months of stock against qualifying a second supplier.
Jars with the most to go on
No CSI jar comes with a continuity promise, so these are ranked on what their listings give you to build a spec sheet from (stated dimensions, a stated heat figure, a sister family in stock) and on price. Everything below was in stock on 26 September 2026; per-jar figures are pack price ÷ units.
| Pack | Price | Per jar | What it covers |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pack of 10 | ₹944.00 | ₹94.40 | spec sheet (4 measured) plus 6 reference jars |
| Pack of 20 | ₹1,888.00 | ₹94.40 | spec sheet, references and a first wick bracket |
| Pack | Price | Per jar | What it covers |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pack of 5 | ₹354.00 | ₹70.80 | spec-sheet measurements and test pours |
| Pack of 10 | ₹708.00 | ₹70.80 | spec sheet plus 6 reference jars |
| Size | Price | Per jar | What it covers |
|---|---|---|---|
| 500 gm | ₹212.40 | ₹212.40 | one jar to measure; buy extras as references |
| 700 gm | ₹250.00 | ₹250.00 | one jar to measure; buy extras as references |
| Pack | Price | Per unit | What it covers |
|---|---|---|---|
| Single | ₹354.00 | ₹354.00 | every spec-sheet and reorder weighing |
CandleMakingSuppliesIndia sells the jars and scale named here, and does not sell finished candles. This page tells you that we cannot promise any jar for years, that our listings state no inside dimensions or tolerances, that 20 of our 72 container listings were out of stock on the pull date, and which of our listings contradict themselves. That is deliberate: a maker who plans for change is a maker who stays in business.
Every price and per-jar figure was verified on CSI's live store on 26 September 2026; every size in a pick table was in stock on that date, and out-of-stock listings are named as such. Listing wording is quoted from the product pages; stock counts come from the same pull.
The twelve questions, the "good answer" and "caution" columns, the six-jar reference set, the ten-minute reorder check and the red-flag responses are our judgement, not industry standards; CSI makes no continuity or notice commitment on its listings, so ask for one in writing.
