I Want to Launch a Premium Candle Brand With ₹50,000 — Which Raw Materials Should I Buy in Bulk and Which Should I Initially Buy in Small Quantities?
शेयर करना
Which should stay in small packs? Anything priced the same per unit at every pack, such as CSI 464, Eco wicks and matte jars, plus White Royal Oud, whose 100 g bottle is marginally the cheapest per gram.
How many candles does ₹50,000 make here? This plan produces 100 premium 200 g candles plus 14 test candles, with ₹5,608.00 left in reserve, before packaging.
Is packaging part of the ₹50,000? Not in this plan. CSI does not sell packaging, so the reserve or a separate budget of your own must cover it.
What a premium brand changes about buying
A premium launch with ₹50,000 has more room than a ₹25,000 start, and that room is exactly where money disappears. The usual pattern is a 10 kg bag of a wax that has never been burned in the chosen jar, a kilogram of a hero fragrance, and a pack of wicks bought because the price per piece looked good. Weeks later the wax frosts, the hero scent is too sweet for the brand, and the wicks are the wrong size.
The fix is not to avoid bulk. It is to apply two tests to every material before buying it in a large pack. First, does the price per gram or per piece actually fall as the pack grows? Second, has this exact material already passed your burn tests in your jar? A large pack only makes sense when the answer to both is yes.
In this worked example, the product is a 200 g premium candle in a matte 200 ml jar at a suggested 8% load, so each candle is 184 g of wax and 16 g of oil. The candidate waxes are CSI 464 and Premium Coconut Soy CSI 468. The candidate oils are White Royal Oud, Dark Vanilla, Bergamot Amber, Jasmine and Vetiver. Packaging is not part of the ₹50,000, since CSI does not sell it.
Which CSI materials actually get cheaper in bulk
| Material | Small pack | Larger pack | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|
| CSI 468 wax | 1 kg ₹650.00 | 5 kg ₹3,185.00 = ₹637.00 per kg | Bulk saves once chosen |
| CSI 464 wax | 1 kg ₹507.40 | 10 kg ₹5,074.00 = ₹507.40 per kg | No saving; buy as needed |
| White Royal Oud | 100 g ₹810.00 = ₹8.10 per g | 1 kg ₹8,103.00 = ₹8.103 per g | Small is marginally cheaper |
| Dark Vanilla | 100 g ₹790.00 = ₹7.90 per g | 500 g ₹3,840.00 = ₹7.68 per g | Bulk saves once approved |
| Jasmine | 100 g ₹430.00 = ₹4.30 per g | 500 g ₹1,961.00 = ₹3.922 per g | Bulk saves once approved |
| Bergamot Amber | 2 × 500 g = ₹5,436.00 | 1 kg ₹5,437.00 | Two 500 g bottles are ₹1.00 cheaper |
| Eco wicks C1, C2 | ₹5.90, ₹9.44 each | Same each at 100 | No saving |
| Performance Wooden Wicks | 10 for ₹590.00 = ₹59.00 each | 100 for ₹4,130.00 = ₹41.30 each | Large saving at volume |
| Matte 200 ml jars | 5 for ₹354.00 = ₹70.80 each | 10 for ₹708.00 = ₹70.80 each | No saving |
Two results surprise most buyers. White Royal Oud's 1 kg bottle is fractionally dearer per gram than its 100 g bottle, so there is no price reason to buy a kilogram before you need it. And Bergamot Amber's 1 kg bottle costs one rupee more than two 500 g bottles. The differences are tiny, but they prove the point: read the pack prices for each product rather than assuming.
The three buying stages
Stage 1: choose the wax, ₹8,142.20
Buy 1 kg each of CSI 464 at ₹507.40 and CSI 468 at ₹650.00, one 100 g bottle of Bergamot Amber at ₹560.00, 20 Eco C1 at ₹118.00, 20 Eco C2 at ₹188.80, a 10-pack of wooden wicks at ₹590.00, two packs of matte jars at 2 × ₹708.00 = ₹1,416.00, and tools at ₹4,112.00: scale ₹354.00, pen thermometer ₹354.00, large pitcher ₹708.00, Mini Electric Melter ₹2,360.00, a sheet of wick stickers ₹100.00, bamboo wick holders ₹118.00 and stirring sticks ₹118.00.
Pour four candles as a suggested starting point: each wax with C1 and with C2, all in Bergamot Amber. You are judging the top surface, glass adhesion and frosting as much as throw, because a premium jar is inspected closely. The four candles use 2 × 184 g = 368 g of each wax and 64 g of oil. In this example CSI 468 wins; your result may differ, and if 464 wins, every later wax figure becomes cheaper.
Stage 2: test the oils and wicks in the chosen wax, ₹5,815.00
Now the wax is chosen, buying it in a 5 kg bag at ₹3,185.00 is justified, because the remainder goes into production at the lower rate. Add 100 g of White Royal Oud ₹810.00, Dark Vanilla ₹790.00, Jasmine ₹430.00 and Vetiver ₹600.00. Pour ten candles, as a suggested plan: every oil with Eco C2 and with a wooden wick. They use 1,840 g of wax and 32 g of each oil. Bergamot Amber's remaining 36 g covers its two.
Dark Vanilla contains vanillin, and its page says it will yellow white or light-coloured wax without affecting performance. In a black or brown matte jar that matters less; in a white jar it is a design decision you must make on purpose. Royal Oud's page states a 72 to 96 hour cure because oud takes longer to express, and Vetiver's page says it builds slowly, so give the woody candles extra cure time before you judge any of them, as a suggested habit.
Stage 3: produce 100 candles, ₹30,434.80
Suppose four oils pass and Vetiver is held back, which is an illustration rather than a forecast; its 1 kg pack was also out of stock on the pull. Twenty-five candles per oil need 400 g of each oil and 18,400 g of wax in total. You already hold 632 g of CSI 468 from stage 1 and 3,160 g from stage 2, so you need 14,608 g more: a 10 kg and a 5 kg pack at ₹6,370.00 + ₹3,185.00 = ₹9,555.00, leaving 392 g.
Oil follows the bulk check. White Royal Oud stays in 100 g bottles: four for ₹3,240.00, giving 468 g with the 68 g left from testing. Dark Vanilla moves to 500 g at ₹3,840.00 and Jasmine to 500 g at ₹1,961.00, because their per-gram price falls and they have passed. Bergamot Amber needs 396 g after its 4 g remainder, so one 500 g bottle at ₹2,718.00. Oil total ₹11,759.00.
Jars: ten packs at ₹7,080.00, which with six test jars left gives 106. Wicks, assuming wooden for White Royal Oud and C2 for the rest: 20 more wooden wicks as two 10-packs for ₹1,180.00, and 62 more C2 as a 50-pack and a 20-pack for ₹472.00 + ₹188.80 = ₹660.80. Two more sticker sheets ₹200.00. Stage total ₹30,434.80.
Why not a 50-pack of wooden wicks at ₹47.20 each? Because 50 for ₹2,360.00 leaves 30 spare for an oil that has sold zero candles yet. Move to the larger pack on the first reorder, once White Royal Oud proves it sells.
What a premium candle costs in materials
| Line | White Royal Oud, wooden wick | Jasmine, Eco C2 |
|---|---|---|
| Wax: 184 g × ₹0.637 | ₹117.21 | ₹117.21 |
| Oil: 16 g | 16 × ₹8.10 = ₹129.60 | 16 × ₹3.922 = ₹62.75 |
| Jar | ₹70.80 | ₹70.80 |
| Wick | ₹59.00 | ₹9.44 |
| Materials total | ₹376.61 | ₹260.20 |
Packaging, labels, labour, shipping and GST are excluded. The gap between the two rows is ₹116.41, and almost all of it is fragrance and wick. That is where a premium price should be visible to the customer; the wax line is identical.
Buy this to test, buy this once validated
To test (stages 1 and 2), ₹13,957.20: 1 kg CSI 464, 1 kg then 5 kg CSI 468, 100 g of five oils, 20 jars, 20 C1, 20 C2, 10 wooden wicks and the tools. Every item here either decides something or carries forward into production.
Once validated (stage 3), ₹30,434.80: 15 kg CSI 468, 1,900 g of oil across four scents in the cheapest packs for each, 100 jars, 20 wooden and 62 C2 wicks, and stickers. Together the three stages total ₹44,392.00, leaving ₹5,608.00 for a retest round, a reorder of the first best-seller in a larger pack, or your own packaging.

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials and production equipment, not finished candles. This guide separates general candle-making practice from what CSI's own product pages state, says plainly where CSI publishes no figure (wick sizes, burn times, hardness), and labels every wick, load, test count or margin as a starting point for your own validation.
Prices are live CSI prices from October 2026; product pages are authoritative. Where a spec is not published — such as a wick size for your jar, a mould's cycle life or a wax's survival temperature — this guide says so rather than filling the gap.

Assumptions: Fragrance load is a percentage of total candle weight (200 g = 184 g wax + 16 g oil at 8%); CSI wax pages phrase their ceilings as a share of wax weight. Material cost per candle covers wax, oil, vessel, wick and dye only — it excludes packaging, labels, labour, shipping and GST. CSI publishes no wick sizing chart, burn times or wax survival temperatures, so every wick named is a candidate to test. Retail prices, budgets, margins and packaging costs are the reader's own figures. Test counts and loads are suggested starting points.
