I'm Making 1,000 Candles a Month — Which Raw Materials Should Now be Purchased Wholesale Rather than in Small Packs?
शेयर करना
What can stay in listed packs? Wicks: one 1,000-pack of Eco Thin C1 (₹5,900.00) covers the month at ₹5.90 each, the same per wick as any pack. Slow scents: 100 g and 500 g bottles keep cash out of oils that sell 50 candles a month.
Does CSI publish wholesale prices? No. Listed wax packs stop at 10 kg (Natural Soy Pearl at 50 kg), oils at 1 kg, and the White Matte jar is listed in fives. Larger quantities are quoted on WhatsApp, and no discount figure is published.
What does the month cost at listed prices? About ₹2,80,683.96 for wax, eight scents, wicks and jars, or ₹280.68 a candle, before any quote. See the monthly list.
What 1,000 candles consume
The series' working candle is a 200 g container candle at an 8% fragrance load: 184 g of wax, 16 g of oil, one wick and one jar. With a 4% allowance for pour loss, rejects and breakage (a working assumption within 3–5%), 1,000 sellable candles need about 191.36 kg of wax, 16.64 kg of fragrance, 1040 wicks and 1040 jars a month. The table sets each one against the largest pack CSI lists.
| Material | Monthly use | Largest listed pack | Largest packs a month | Per-unit break on the list |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Soy wax (Chunks / CSI 464) | 191.36 kg | 10 kg bag | 19.1 | None beyond 1 kg |
| Soy wax (Natural Soy Pearl) | 191.36 kg | 50 kg bag | 3.8 | 5.6% at 5 kg, then none |
| Jars (White Matte) | 1040 | Pack of 5 | 208 | None listed |
| Wicks (Eco Thin C1) | 1040 | 1,000 | 1.04 | None — ₹5.90 each |
| Fragrance, top scent (200 candles) | 3.33 kg | 1 kg | 3.3 | Depends on the oil |
| Fragrance, tail scent (50 candles) | 0.83 kg | 1 kg | 0.8 | Depends on the oil |
| Tissue paper (one sheet per candle, if you use it) | 1040 sheets | 100 sheets | 10.4 | Only one pack listed |
The pattern is clear. Wax and jars need twenty or two hundred of the largest listed pack every month. That is a supply relationship, not a basket, and it is exactly what a wholesale quote exists for. Wicks need one pack. A top scent needs three or four kilo bottles; a tail scent needs less than one. Each line gets its own answer. I'm Making 500 Candles a Month — What Quantities of Wax, Fragrance Oil, Wicks and Jars Should I Buy to Reduce My Cost per Candle? prices the same materials at 500 candles, where most lines still fit listed packs.
The wholesale-readiness scorecard
Four questions decide whether a material should move to a wholesale quote. Volume: do you need many of the largest listed pack each month? Spend: is it a big share of your material cost, so a better price matters? Spread: is it used by every candle, so the risk of holding more is low? Break: does the listed price already fall with quantity, so the listed pack is already good value? Here is the scorecard at 1,000 candles.
| Material | Volume vs largest pack | Share of spend | Used by every candle? | Listed break? | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Wax | 20 × 10 kg a month | 41.6% | Yes | No (Chunks, CSI 464) | Quote now |
| Jars | 208 packs of 5 | 26.2% | Yes, if one jar | No (White Matte) | Quote now |
| Top-scent oils | 3–4 kg per scent | Part of oil's 30.0% | No — one scent each | Some oils | Quote above 1 kg |
| Mid-scent oils | 1.7 kg per scent | Part of oil's 30.0% | No | Some oils | Listed 500 g and 1 kg |
| Tail-scent oils | under 1 kg per scent | Part of oil's 30.0% | No | Some oils | Stay in 100 g / 500 g |
| Wicks | One 1,000-pack | 2.2% | Yes | No — flat ₹5.90 | Largest listed pack; quote optional |
Wax and jars score on every count: huge volume against the listed packs, the two biggest shares of spend, and one specification shared by every candle (provided you standardise on one jar). The low risk matters. A kilo of wax you over-order still goes into next month's candles, whatever sells. A kilo of a slow scent may not. Wicks score on volume and spread but not on spend: at 2.2% of the bill, even a generous quoted discount would change little, and the listed price is already flat. Should I Buy Wax in Bulk Before Fragrance Oil Because Wax Is Used Across Every Candle While Individual Fragrances Sell at Different Rates? argues the wax-before-fragrance case in full.
Fragrance: top scents, mid scents, tail scents
Here is an illustrative eight-scent range: three scents at 200 candles a month, three at 100, two at 50. The oils are real CSI listings with every planned size in stock on the pull date; swap in your own. Each scent gets its own quantity and its own buying route.
| Oil | Candles / month | Oil needed | Listed packs to buy | ₹ at listed prices | kg / month | Route |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Blue Ocean | 200 | 3.328 kg | 3 × 1 kg + 500 g | ₹17,346.00 | 3.33 | Quote above 1 kg |
| Sandalwood | 200 | 3.328 kg | 3 × 1 kg + 500 g | ₹17,593.80 | 3.33 | Quote above 1 kg |
| Roasted Coffee | 200 | 3.328 kg | 3 × 1 kg + 500 g | ₹13,104.00 | 3.33 | Quote above 1 kg |
| Japanese Cherry Blossom | 100 | 1.664 kg | 1 kg + 500 g + 2 × 100 g | ₹8,342.00 | 1.66 | Listed 500 g / 1 kg |
| Apple Cinnamon | 100 | 1.664 kg | 1 kg + 500 g + 2 × 100 g | ₹8,064.12 | 1.66 | Listed 500 g / 1 kg |
| Woody Oud | 100 | 1.664 kg | 1 kg + 500 g + 2 × 100 g | ₹7,703.04 | 1.66 | Listed 500 g / 1 kg |
| Dark Vanilla | 50 | 0.832 kg | 500 g + 4 × 100 g | ₹7,000.00 | 0.83 | Keep in 100 g / 500 g |
| Bergamot Amber | 50 | 0.832 kg | 500 g + 4 × 100 g | ₹4,958.00 | 0.83 | Keep in 100 g / 500 g |
| Eight scents | 1,000 | 16.64 kg | ₹84,110.96 |
Most of these oils are priced flat above 100 g: Sandalwood is ₹5.03 a gram at 100 g, 500 g and 1 kg, and Blue Ocean is ₹4.95 at 100 g and ₹4.96 at 1 kg. That is typical of the catalogue: for 52 of 91 oils listing both sizes, the 1 kg is within 1% of the 100 g per gram, and only 24 save 5% or more. So for a top scent the listed kilo is a convenience, not a discount, and a quote for 3–5 kg is the first place a lower rate could come from. Ask for it per gram, and compare it with the listed kilo.
The monthly list at listed prices
Before you ask for a quote, know what the month costs at listed prices. It is the number every quote has to beat. Wax here is Luxury Soy Wax Chunks in 5 kg bags, the cheapest listed way to buy it (the 10 kg bag is ₹0.90 dearer than two 5 kg bags).
| Line | What | ₹ at listed prices | Share | Route |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Wax | 39 × 5 kg Luxury Soy Wax Chunks (195 kg) | ₹1,16,805.00 | 41.6% | Quote |
| Fragrance | Eight scents as above (17.4 kg bought) | ₹84,110.96 | 30.0% | Quote top 3; listed for the rest |
| Wicks | 1 × 1,000 + 2 × 20 Eco Thin C1 | ₹6,136.00 | 2.2% | Listed |
| Jars | 208 × White Matte pack of 5 | ₹73,632.00 | 26.2% | Quote |
| Total | ₹2,80,683.96 | 100% | ||
| Per sellable candle | ₹280.68 | |||
| Optional: tissue paper | 11 × 100 sheets | ₹7,150.00 | — | Listed |
At listed prices, wax is ₹1,16,805.00 a month. Holding a month of it on the shelf averages about ₹58,402.50, which costs ₹876.04 a month at an example holding rate of 1.5% a month (replace with your own cost of money). If your recipe works in Natural Soy Pearl Wax, its listed ₹424.80 a kilo against the Chunks' ₹599.00 would lower the wax line by about ₹33,334.91 a month before any quote, a formulation change that needs burn tests first. Oil at ₹84,110.96 is the next line, then jars at ₹73,632.00.

What changes beyond buying
Wholesale buying at this scale changes the workshop as well as the invoice. Melting about 191 kg of wax a month is more than a stove-top jug can handle comfortably. CSI lists an Electric Wax Melter in 10 kg capacity (₹21,240.00) and 20 kg capacity (₹25,960.00), and a Wax Pouring Funnel with 4 nozzles at ₹1,888.00. Melting throughput per hour is not published, so time a batch on your own set-up before you plan capacity around it. I Need to Produce 500 Candles in Seven Days — How Do I Calculate Whether My Current Melting Equipment, Moulds and Workspace Can Handle the Production Volume? works through whether equipment can handle a production target.
Consistency matters more too. At 1,000 identical candles, a change of wax lot or oil batch can show up as a different top or a different throw across hundreds of units. Ask your supplier how batches are handled on a wholesale order, and keep a retained sample of each delivery. And keep the allowance honest: 4% of 1,000 candles is 40 candles' worth of material a month, which is worth measuring rather than assuming. CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. On a page about going wholesale, the convenient advice for us would be "quote everything". Our listed wick price is the same per wick in every pack, and slow scents do not need kilo quantities, so this page tells you to keep those in listed packs and quote only the lines where volume and spend justify it.
Wax and oil prices are CSI live pricing, pulled on 24 September 2026; wick, equipment and tissue prices are from the 25 September 2026 catalogue pull; the White Matte Glass Jar is Blog 760's figure, verified 10 September 2026. Quantities, shares of spend and totals are arithmetic on those prices, shown to two decimals so you can check them. No wholesale price is shown because none is published.
The 200 g candle, 8% load, 4% allowance, eight-scent split, 2 kg quote threshold and 1.5% a month holding rate are working assumptions and examples, not facts about your business. Replace them with your own. For a wholesale quote, GST invoicing, MSDS or IFRA documentation, message us on WhatsApp at +91 7397976926.
