Your jar budget is not what the jar costs. It is what is left after your price, your margin and every other cost have taken their share. Here is the reverse calculation, a worked ₹899.00 example, and what a ₹500.00 jar really asks of your price.
₹124.45
container budget for a 200 g candle at ₹899.00 net and 50% margin (worked example) · CSI live pricing, September 2026
Quick answers — read this first
How do I find the most my jar can cost? Work backwards: net price × (1 − your target margin) = the most the whole candle may cost. Subtract fill, packaging, courier and labour. What is left is the container budget, lid included.

Is a ₹500.00 jar affordable on an ₹899.00 candle? Not at a 50% margin. In our worked example (200 g candle, costs shown below) the container budget is ₹124.45. The ₹500.00 jar is 4.0 times that and leaves 8.2% margin.

What price does the ₹500.00 jar need? ₹1,650.10 net for a 50% margin in the same example, or ₹1,375.08 for 40%. Every ₹1.00 of jar needs ₹2.00 of price at 50%.

What if I love the jar? Keep it for a higher-priced line, shrink nothing else to "make room", and give your ₹899.00 candle a jar that fits: CSI's 150 g lidded jar is ₹94.40.
The short answer
The formula: container budget = net price × (1 − margin) − fill − packaging − channel costs − labour. Net price means after GST and discounts.
The worked number: ₹899.00 net, 50% margin, 200 g candle: ₹449.50 allowable cost − ₹325.05 of non-jar costs = ₹124.45 for jar and lid.
The ₹500.00 jar: ₹375.55 over budget. At ₹899.00 it leaves ₹73.95 (8.2%); for 50% the candle must sell at ₹1,650.10.
The multiplier: at 50% margin, ₹1.00 of container costs ₹2.00 of price; at 60%, ₹2.50; at 40%, ₹1.67.
Where an ₹899.00 candle can afford its jar Worked example, 200 g candle at 8%, drawn to scale: 26 px = ₹100.00. Channel, labour and margin are illustrative inputs. A · net ₹899.00 jar sized to the budget channel + labour ₹120.00 packaging ₹29.75 fill ₹175.30 jar budget ₹124.45 margin ₹449.50 (50%) B · net ₹899.00 with the ₹500.00 jar channel + labour ₹120.00 packaging ₹29.75 fill ₹175.30 the ₹500.00 jar margin ₹73.95 (8.2%) C · net ₹1,650.10 price the ₹500.00 jar needs channel + labour ₹120.00 packaging ₹29.75 fill ₹175.30 the ₹500.00 jar margin ₹825.05 (50%) ₹899.00 price line Black = the container. Grey bands = fill (CSI 464 + Woody Oud + C2 wick), packaging, channel and labour. White = what is left for you. A and B sell at the same price: the extra ₹375.55 of jar comes straight out of the margin. C restores 50% by raising the price ₹751.10. Prices ex-GST. Replace every input with your own: net price, margin target, fill weight, courier and labour.
Three cost stacks on one rupee scale. A: at ₹899.00 net and a 50% margin, the container budget is ₹124.45. B: the same price with the ₹500.00 jar; fill, packaging and channel costs do not change, so the extra glass comes straight out of the white margin band, leaving ₹73.95. C: the price that restores a 50% margin with the ₹500.00 jar, ₹1,650.10. All inputs other than CSI prices are worked-example assumptions.
Straight answer
My ₹500.00 candle jar looks great but makes my finished candle too expensive. How do I calculate the maximum container cost my retail price can support?
Work backwards from the price, never forwards from the jar. Take your net selling price (what you keep after GST and any discount), multiply by one minus your target margin to get the most the whole candle may cost, then subtract everything that is not the container: wax, fragrance oil and wick at your weighed fill, the box and wrap, courier and payment fees you absorb, and a labour allowance. The remainder is your maximum container cost, lid included. In our worked example (a 200 g candle at 8% with CSI 464 and Woody Oud, net price ₹899.00, 50% margin, ₹120.00 of illustrative courier and labour) that remainder is ₹124.45. The ₹500.00 jar is ₹375.55 over it, and keeping it at ₹899.00 leaves you 8.2%. To carry it at 50% the candle needs ₹1,650.10 net. So either price the ₹500.00 jar into a higher line, or choose a jar at or below your budget for this one.
One line: the most your jar can cost is what is left after margin and every other cost, and on an ₹899.00 candle that is nearer ₹124.45 than ₹500.00.
A jar that fits the ₹899.00 budget, lid included: the Clear Glass Jar with Golden Lid (150 gram) is ₹94.40 per jar in packs of 10 (₹944.00) or 20 (₹1,888.00), in stock on 26 September 2026. It holds a smaller candle than the ₹500.00 jar, so re-run the formula with your weighed fill before you commit.

The reverse calculation, step by step

A jar is the only line in your cost sheet the customer holds before they smell anything. That is why it is the easiest one to overspend on.

Most makers cost a candle forwards: add up the jar, wax, oil and wick, double it, and see what price comes out. That is how a ₹500.00 jar ends up on an ₹899.00 candle. The forward method answers "what should I charge for this jar?". Your question is the reverse: "my customers pay ₹899.00; what jar can that price carry?". Answer it in this order, with your own numbers in place of ours.

1
Fix the net price. Start from the price the customer pays, then remove the GST you collect if you are registered (your accountant will confirm the rate for your product) and any standing discount. Marketplace commission is a channel cost, not a price cut; it comes in at step 4. Worked example: ₹899.00.
2
Choose your target margin. This is what must be left per candle to pay for photography, samples, rent, marketing, the unsold stock and you. We use 50% as an illustrative target, not an industry figure; your fixed costs and volume set yours.
3
Find the allowable cost. Net price × (1 − margin). ₹899.00 × 0.5 = ₹449.50. Nothing on the cost sheet, jar included, may add up to more than this.
4
Subtract every cost that is not the container. Fill (wax, oil, wick) from weighed grams: ₹175.30 for 200 g at 8%. Packaging: ₹29.75. Courier and payment fees you absorb: ₹80.00 (worked example; use your quotes). Labour and overhead per candle: ₹40.00 (worked example). Total: ₹325.05.
5
Read the container budget. ₹449.50 − ₹325.05 = ₹124.45. That covers the jar and its lid, plus any lid you buy separately. If this number is negative, stop: no jar works at this price and margin, and the problem is the fill, the channel or the price.
6
Test your favourite jar the other way. Minimum net price = (jar + every other cost) ÷ (1 − margin). (₹500.00 + ₹325.05) ÷ 0.5 = ₹1,650.10. If that price is one your customers will pay, the jar is not too expensive. It is on the wrong candle.

The allowable-cost line in step 3 includes costs many small brands leave out: courier they absorb with "free shipping", payment fees, the tissue and sticker, their own time. Leave them out and the container budget looks bigger than it is, which is exactly how a ₹500.00 jar gets approved. The full landed-cost build, with GST treatment and breakage, is the landed-cost post; here we only need enough to find the jar line.

Margin is not markup
A 50% margin means half the net price is left after costs; it is the same as a 100% markup on cost. A "2× markup" someone suggests and a "50% margin" are the same target; "2× the jar cost" is not a target at all, because it ignores the fill, the box and the courier. Always state margin as a share of the net price, as we do here.

Worked example: the ₹500.00 jar on an ₹899.00 candle

Nothing else on the cost sheet changes when you swap the jar. That is what makes the swap so expensive.

Here is the example line by line. CSI prices are live on 26 September 2026; everything else is a labelled input you will replace. The candle is 200 g at an 8% fragrance load, which on CSI's convention (load as a share of total candle weight) is 16 g of oil and 184 g of wax. We assume the ₹500.00 jar holds that; weigh yours, because a jar that looks like 200 g often holds more or less.

Worked example · 200 g candle at 8% · net price ₹899.00 · target margin 50%
Cost per candle with a jar at the budget, and with the ₹500.00 jar
Line Basis Budget jar ₹500.00 jar
Wax 184 g Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 at the 10 kg price (₹5,074.00) ₹93.36 ₹93.36
Fragrance oil 16 g Woody Oud at the 1 kg price (₹4,531.20) ₹72.50 ₹72.50
Wick one Eco C2 from the 100-pack (a placeholder until your burn test picks the wick) ₹9.44 ₹9.44
Packaging 11 × 11 × 8 cm box ₹22.42 + tissue sheet ₹6.50 + care sticker ₹0.83 ₹29.75 ₹29.75
Courier and payment fees worked example, illustrative ₹80.00 ₹80.00
Labour and overhead worked example, illustrative ₹40.00 ₹40.00
Container (jar + lid) budget vs your jar ₹124.45 ₹500.00
Total cost ₹449.50 ₹825.05
Left from ₹899.00 ₹449.50 (50%) ₹73.95 (8.2%)

Read the right-hand column slowly. The ₹500.00 jar does not make the candle "a bit dearer". It takes ₹375.55 that was your margin, and at ₹899.00 you keep ₹73.95 per candle before rent, photography, marketing or a single unsold jar. One broken jar in transit, replaced at your cost, wipes out the margin on several good ones.

The per-candle material cost in this table (wax, oil, wick and jar) excludes labour, freight, packaging and GST; we add labour, packaging and a courier line separately because a container budget without them is fiction. We price wax and oil at bulk sizes because that is where a steady product sits; buy CSI 464 in 500 g bags instead (₹0.52 per gram against ₹0.51) and the fill costs slightly more, so the jar budget shrinks a little further. Woody Oud is the same ₹4.53 per gram from 100 g to 1 kg, so the oil line does not move until you drop to 50 g or 15 g.

Mistake: finding the budget is ₹124.45, then "saving" the ₹500.00 jar by cutting the load from 8% to 6% and switching to a cheaper oil. What actually happens: dropping to 6% saves 4 g of Woody Oud, ₹16.10 per candle net of the extra wax; even a full swap to Citrus Lemon saves ₹27.19. Neither comes close to ₹375.55, and both change the product the customer came back for. Fix: never pay for the jar out of the scent. Change the price, the jar or the line it sits in.

Why every ₹1.00 of jar needs ₹2.00 of price

Once your margin target is fixed, every rupee of cost you add must be recovered at the same margin, so it moves the price by more than itself. The multiplier is 1 ÷ (1 − margin). At 50% that is ₹2.00 of net price for every ₹1.00 of container; at 60% it is ₹2.50; at 40%, ₹1.67.

The container multiplier · worked example
How much net price the jar alone demands at three margin targets
Target margin Price per ₹1.00 of jar Price the ₹500.00 jar alone needs Container budget at ₹899.00 (200 g example) Net price the ₹500.00 jar needs (200 g example)
40% ₹1.67 ₹833.33 ₹214.35 ₹1,375.08
50% ₹2.00 ₹1,000.00 ₹124.45 ₹1,650.10
60% ₹2.50 ₹1,250.00 ₹34.55 ₹2,062.62

Two things fall out of this table. First, margin is the biggest lever on the jar: on an ₹899.00 candle every ten points of margin is ₹89.90 of container budget, so moving from 50% to 60% shrinks it from ₹124.45 to ₹34.55, and a brand aiming at 60% has almost nothing for glass at this price. Second, the ₹500.00 jar is a price decision, not a cost decision. At 50% it asks for ₹1,000.00 of shelf price before a gram of wax goes in; the budget jar asks for ₹248.90.

We don't publish a "correct" margin for candles. It depends on your channel, your fixed costs and your volume; a maker selling 40 candles a month at markets needs a different target from one supplying 1,000 to a corporate buyer. Pick the target from your own fixed costs, then let the multiplier tell you what the jar is really asking for.

A bigger jar spends your budget twice

The jar never travels alone. It brings its wax and its oil with it.

Luxury jars tend to be bigger, and a bigger jar is expensive twice: once for the glass and again for the wax and oil it takes to fill it. In our worked costing, every extra 100 g of candle adds about ₹82.93 of wax and oil before the jar is priced. That is why the budget table below falls so steeply as you move down it.

Container budget by candle weight and net price · 50% margin · worked example
What is left for jar and lid after fill, ₹29.75 packaging and ₹120.00 channel and labour
Candle (fill cost) Net ₹599.00 Net ₹899.00 Net ₹1,299.00 Net ₹1,799.00
150 g candle (fill ₹133.83) ₹15.92 ₹165.92 ₹365.92 ₹615.92
200 g candle (fill ₹175.30) none: costs already exceed the 50% line by ₹25.55 ₹124.45 ₹324.45 ₹574.45
300 g candle (fill ₹258.23) none: costs already exceed the 50% line by ₹108.48 ₹41.52 ₹241.52 ₹491.52
500 g candle (fill ₹424.09) none: costs already exceed the 50% line by ₹274.34 none: costs already exceed the 50% line by ₹124.34 ₹75.66 ₹325.66

Fill costs use CSI 464 at the 10 kg price and Woody Oud at the 1 kg price, 8% load, one C2 wick: 150 g = ₹70.02 + ₹54.37 + ₹9.44; 300 g = ₹140.04 + ₹108.75 + ₹9.44; 500 g = ₹233.40 + ₹181.25 + ₹9.44. A jar wide enough for 500 g may need two wicks or a wooden wick; price that in once your burn test decides (one, two or three wicks for a wide jar). We hold packaging flat for comparison, though a 10 cm-tall jar needs a taller box.

Three readings. At ₹599.00 net, only a 150 g candle works at 50%, and its container budget (₹15.92) is below even the 200ml Salsa clear jar at ₹29.50: at that price the margin target, not the jar, has to give. At ₹899.00, a 300 g candle leaves ₹41.52 for glass: bigger costs you jar money. And a 500 g statement candle needs a net price well above ₹1,299.00 before its jar budget reaches the price of a large CSI jar. If you want a heavier candle to justify a higher price, whether the extra money should go into the jar or the fill is the question the premium-brand hub answers.

Which CSI jars fit which net price

Here is the same arithmetic run the other way for the jars we sell, with the ₹500.00 jar at the bottom for comparison. Fill weights are the listing's wording or the series planning figure; none is a promise, so weigh yours. Every jar shown is in stock on 26 September 2026.

Minimum net price by jar · worked example · verified 26 September 2026
Jar + fill + ₹120.00 channel and labour + ₹29.75 packaging, recovered at 50% and 40%

White Matte 200 ml family ₹70.80 (no lid) "fill weight of 200 ml"; 150 g planning figure ₹354.38 ₹708.76 ₹590.63
Clear Glass Jar with Golden Lid (150 gram) ₹94.40 (golden metal lid) "150g fill capacity" ₹377.98 ₹755.96 ₹629.97
Black Glass Jar with Black Lid (150 gram) ₹107.00 (lid; colour contradicted on the page) "Fill capacity: ~150 gm" ₹390.58 ₹781.16 ₹650.97
Green Iridescent jar with bamboo lid, 300g ₹150.00 (bamboo lid) "Capacity - 300g" ₹557.98 ₹1,115.96 ₹929.97
Borosilicate Glass Jar 600 gram, golden lid ₹200.00 (matte gold lid) "Ideal for 500–600g wax fill"; 500 g used ₹773.84 ₹1,547.68 ₹1,289.73
Apothecary Glass Candle Jar with Dome Lid, 500 gm ₹212.40 (glass dome lid) "~500 g - 700 g (2 sizes)"; 500 g used ₹786.24 ₹1,572.48 ₹1,310.40
Your ₹500.00 jar (not a CSI listing) ₹500.00 (worked example) 200 g assumed ₹825.05 ₹1,650.10 ₹1,375.08

The surprise in this table is the bottom two rows. CSI's Apothecary Glass Candle Jar with Dome Lid costs ₹212.40 and, on the listing's figures, holds a 500 g candle (a figure to confirm by weighing, since one set of dimensions is given for both sizes); in the example it needs a lower net price than the ₹500.00 jar carrying 200 g. That does not make it the right jar: a 500 g candle is a different product at a different price. It shows that "expensive" is a ratio of jar to price, not a number on its own.

Argued against our own interest: our dearest in-stock jar, the Candle Jar with Dome Lid at ₹354.00, would not fit an ₹899.00 candle at 50% either. Its page states no capacity or dimensions at all, so we could not even cost its fill. Do not buy it to "look luxury" at this price. If your ₹899.00 candle needs a better look, a label, a lid finish or the box will usually cost less than a dearer jar; the upgrades that read as premium, and what each costs, are in the luxury-presentation post.

Listing contradictions to check before costing: the Black Glass Jar with Black Lid (150 gram) page describes a "Golden metal lid" and "Premium clear glass" and still carries "Deliveries Starting 5th Dec" in its title; the Clear Glass Jar with Golden Lid page calls the jar both curved and straight-sided. Fix: confirm the lid and dispatch on WhatsApp before you put either jar's price into a quote.

The jar, oil and box we costed

These are the products behind the numbers above, in the order you would buy them to test the formula on real candles. Buy one small pack of the jar you want, weigh its true fill, re-run steps 4 to 6 with that weight, and only then order the quantity.

150 g jar · lid included · fits an ₹899.00 budget
Clear Glass Jar with Golden Lid (150 gram)
One of seven CSI listings with a numeric heat statement: the page says "Safe for hot pour up to 85°C" (the page's wording; we publish no test data). It states "150g fill capacity", height 8 cm, outer diameter 7 cm, base about 6.5 cm, and a golden metal lid included. At ₹94.40 per jar the lid is inside the price, which matters: a lidless jar plus a separate lid is two line items in your budget. In the worked example a 150 g candle in this jar needs a net price of ₹755.96 for a 50% margin. Limitation: the page calls it both "curved" and "straight-sided", and both heights quoted are 8 cm, so measure one before you design a label or a box around it. No pack discount: 20 costs exactly twice 10.

200ml Salsa Glass Jar with 63mm Lug Cap (Golden Lid)
If your price point is under ₹699.00, this is the jar that comes closest: in the worked example a 150 g candle in it needs ₹521.80 net at a 40% margin and ₹626.16 at 50%. The page states "The 200ml capacity", a golden 63 mm lug cap and a "wide mouth opening", and says it "withstands the heat of hot wax without cracking or warping" (the page's claim, no figure). It gives no height or diameter and describes the jar as "upcycled", so weigh your own fill line: the series planning figure for a 200 ml jar is about 150 g (why a 200 ml jar is not a 200 g candle). It is one of the few CSI jars with a real pack discount: 26.5% less per jar at 50 Pcs than at 5. Limitation: it looks like a food jar, and at a premium price that is a brand decision you should make on purpose.

Green Iridescent jar with bamboo lid - 300g
The page is brief: "300g glass jar, natural bamboo lid. Capacity - 300g Diameter - 7cm Height - 10cm". It does not say whether 300 g is wax or water, brim or fill line, or whether 7 cm is inside or outside, and it makes no heat statement at all, so it needs the full measure-and-burn test before you price around it. It is sold singly at ₹150.00, in stock on 26 September 2026; the White Iridescent sister is out of stock. In the worked example a 300 g candle in it needs ₹1,115.96 net for a 50% margin, so it belongs above ₹999.00, not at ₹899.00. Limitation: no pack price, so ask on WhatsApp about depth of stock before you plan a range on it.

Woody Oud Fragrance Oil
We costed every candle in this guide with Woody Oud because its page states a candle range ("candles (6-10%)") and every size is in stock on 26 September 2026. At the 1 kg price it is ₹4.53 per gram, so the 16 g in a 200 g candle at 8% is ₹72.50. The same ₹72.50 would be ₹91.06 with Dark Vanilla Oud or ₹45.31 with Citrus Lemon: the oil moves your container budget as surely as the jar does. Argued against our own interest: the 1 kg price is the one in the maths, but do not buy 1 kg to find out whether your candle sells at ₹899.00. The 100 g costs the same per gram and covers eight test candles.

Corrugated Box for Candle Packaging (11 x 11 x 8 cm)
The page describes self-locking kraft mailer boxes, "Size: 11 x 11 x 8 cm", without saying inside or outside. It is the box we costed at ₹22.42 each, alongside one tissue sheet (₹6.50) and a candle-care sticker (₹0.83), for ₹29.75 of packaging per candle. Test-fit your jar with its lid on before you order: an 8 cm jar in an 8 cm box has no room for wrap. Limitation: a box is not transit protection by itself; how much wrap a glass candle needs for courier is the online-shipping post.
Pack Price Per box What it covers
Pack of 50 ₹1,121.00 ₹22.42 a 50-candle launch
Pack of 100 ₹2,242.00 ₹22.42 a 100-candle run (no extra discount)
₹22.42 per box at either pack size. Buy 50 boxes — ₹1,121.00

If you still want the ₹500.00 jar: five honest options

A beautiful jar on the wrong candle is a pricing problem wearing a design costume.

Sometimes the jar is the brand. That is a legitimate choice, as long as the price carries it. Here are the options in the order we would consider them, with what each does to the worked example.

1. Move the jar up a line

Keep the ₹899.00 candle in a jar that fits its ₹124.45 budget and launch the ₹500.00 jar as a signature piece at ₹1,650.10 net or more. Two tiers let customers who love the jar pay for it, and customers who came for the scent don't subsidise it.

2. Raise the price, then test demand

The price rise the jar forces at 50% is ₹751.10. Before you print labels, sell a small batch at the new price to real customers. Testing a new design with a smaller quantity is cheaper than finding out with a hundred jars on the shelf.

3. Accept a lower margin, knowingly

At ₹899.00 the ₹500.00 jar leaves 8.2%. Some brands carry one low-margin hero product for photography and word of mouth. If you do, cap how many you make and never offer free shipping on it.

4. Sell the vessel once, then sell refills

If the jar is reusable and customers keep it, the second candle does not need a second ₹500.00 jar. That changes the maths completely, but only if the vessel is chosen for it from day one; the refill-ready container post covers what that takes.

5. Ask for a bulk price, honestly

A quantity quote can move a jar price; it rarely moves it by the 75% this jar would need to fall. Ask your jar supplier, and if you are looking at CSI jars, most of our jar listings are priced flat per jar across pack sizes, so the listed per-jar price is usually the price until you ask on WhatsApp for a larger quantity. Our exceptions, such as the 200ml Salsa clear (26.5% less at 50 Pcs), are named on this page.

This method is for you if you have a price your customers already accept and are choosing or defending a jar. It is not enough on its own if you have not weighed your fill yet: every budget here moves with the grams in the jar, so weigh the fill first.

Pricing a Diwali candle by 8 November 2026

Diwali falls on 8 November 2026, 43 days after 26 September 2026. Gifting buyers compare prices fast, and a jar chosen for looks in late September is how a festive candle ends up priced out of the hamper budget. Do the reverse calculation before you order jars, not after the labels arrive.

The CSI principle
Price first, margin second, jar last.
The container budget is what is left after the customer's price, your margin and every other cost have spoken. Choose the jar to fit that number, or move the jar to a price that fits it.
"A ₹500.00 jar is not expensive or cheap. It is expensive for an ₹899.00 candle and reasonable for a ₹1,650.10 one."

Why trust this guide

CandleMakingSuppliesIndia sells the jars, wax, oil and boxes costed here and does not sell finished candles. This page tells you our dearest jar does not fit an ₹899.00 candle, that most of our jar listings have no pack discount, and that you should test with 100 g of oil rather than buy 1 kg. That is deliberate: a candle priced so it makes money is a candle you will reorder materials for.

Every CSI price and per-jar figure was verified on the live store on 26 September 2026; every pack in a pick table is in stock on that date, and the out-of-stock White Iridescent sister is named as such. Capacity, dimension and heat wording is quoted from the product pages; where a page is silent or contradicts itself, we say so.

The net price, margin targets, courier and payment fees, labour allowance, the ₹500.00 jar and its 200 g fill are worked-example inputs, not industry data; the two-tier and pricing-first plans are editorial judgement. Frequently asked questions

How much should a candle jar cost compared to the selling price?
There is no fixed ratio, because the fill, packaging and courier come out of the same price. Work it backwards: net price × (1 − target margin), minus every non-jar cost. In our worked example, an ₹899.00 candle at a 50% margin leaves ₹124.45 for a 200 g candle's jar and lid.
How do I calculate the maximum cost of a candle container?
Container budget = net price × (1 − margin) − fill (wax, oil, wick) − packaging − courier and payment fees you absorb − labour. Use your weighed fill and your own courier quote. If the result is negative, no jar works at that price and margin.
Is a ₹500.00 jar too expensive for a candle?
For an ₹899.00 candle, yes: in our worked example it is ₹375.55 over the container budget and leaves 8.2% margin. For a candle selling at ₹1,650.10 net or more it can work at 50%. The jar is only expensive relative to the price it sits under.
Should I include packaging and shipping in my candle cost?
Yes, every cost you absorb per candle. In the worked example, packaging is ₹29.75 and courier plus payment fees ₹80.00; leaving them out makes the jar budget look ₹109.75 bigger than it is.
Does GST count when I calculate candle margin?
Work from the net price after the GST you collect, if you are registered, and treat GST on your purchases the way your accountant advises. We keep the worked example free of GST on both sides and don't state rates; CSI issues a GST invoice on request.
What profit margin should a handmade candle business aim for?
We don't publish an industry benchmark. Set it from your fixed costs, volume and channel. This page shows 40%, 50% and 60% so you can see the effect: on an ₹899.00 candle each ten points of margin is ₹89.90 of container budget.
Your container budget, in rupees
Price first, then the jar: ₹124.45 is the budget at ₹899.00 and 50%.
Run the six steps with your net price, margin target, weighed fill and courier quote. If your ₹500.00 jar still does not fit, give it a higher-priced line and start the ₹899.00 candle in a jar that does, such as the 150 g lidded jar at ₹94.40. Send us the numbers and we will quote the jars that fit.

Load is a percentage of total candle weight (200 g at 8% = 16 g oil + 184 g wax).
