Poor tops and weak throw are often method, not wax. Rule out pour temperature, wick and cure first; then run a costed side-by-side test before switching.
Rule these out first
| Symptom | Common non-wax cause | Check |
|---|---|---|
| Rough or cracked tops | Pour too hot or too cold; fast cooling | How to Get Smooth Tops on Soy Wax Candles |
| Sinkholes | Cooling too fast, air pockets | Why Does My Soy Candle Have Sinkholes? |
| Weak hot throw | Wick too small, short cure, oil choice | Wax, Wick or Fragrance Oil — What Is Causing Weak Hot Throw? |
The costed switching test
| Item | Cost |
|---|---|
| 1 kg Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 (flakes) | ₹650.00 |
| 1 kg Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 (flakes) | ₹507.40 |
| Same oil, wick, jar, load | Your existing stock |
If the better wax wins, the switch costs ₹43.79 more wax per 200 g candle at most (Eco Soy 400 → CSI 468).
Before you pay more for wax, check the three things you control
You have a cheap wax, rough tops and a candle that barely scents the room when lit. It is natural to blame the wax. Sometimes that is right. More often, one of three things in your own process is doing the damage, and a new wax would carry the same problem with a higher price attached.
Check the fragrance step on Eco Soy CSI 400
If your cheap wax is Eco Soy CSI 400, look at when you add the oil. Its product page says to add fragrance at 80–90°C and stir for 2 minutes. Adding oil to cooler wax, or stirring for a few seconds, can leave oil poorly mixed and a weak hot throw. This page also publishes no fragrance load, so if you are loading high, drop back to 8% and see whether the candle behaves better.
Check the wick before the wax
A wick that is too small gives a narrow melt pool, and a narrow pool gives weak throw however good the wax. Try the next size up in the same jar before anything else. On CSI's list the Thin (C1) wick is ₹5.90 and the Thick (C2) ₹9.44, so a wick test costs far less than a new bag of wax.
Separate looks from performance
Some soy tops frost or turn slightly uneven, and frosting on soy is cosmetic. If your only complaint is appearance, a heat gun pass or a change in cooling may be enough. Monsoon humidity and a draughty room can both change how a top sets.
What a switch really costs
If testing points to the wax, count the switch honestly. In a 200 g candle, moving from ₹73.42 of Eco Soy CSI 400 to ₹93.36 of CSI 464 is the smaller step; ₹117.21 of CSI 468 is the larger one. There is also a hidden cost: your wick sizes were tuned to the old wax and need retesting in the new one, jar by jar.
Where this page fits
This page overlaps an older CSI guide, so it takes a narrower job and leaves the rest to that guide.

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. We publish every pack price, so every per-kilogram and per-candle figure here can be checked against the product pages — including the ones that show a bigger bag is not cheaper.
Prices are taken from live CSI stock in September 2026. Where a product page does not publish a specification, this guide says so rather than filling the gap.

Assumptions: Fragrance load 8% of total candle weight, so wax is 92% of the fill (a 200 g candle = 184 g wax + 16 g oil). Order plans add a 5% wastage allowance (10% where stated for festive buffers). "Cheapest listed packs" is the lowest-cost combination of listed pack sizes, preferring fewer bags when prices tie within a few rupees. Candle counts are rounded down. Costs are core materials only and exclude jar, label, packaging, labour, freight and GST unless stated. Wax stated fragrance maximums are the wax maker's formulation limits, not regulatory limits. Pack sizes not listed on the store (2, 20, 25, 100 kg) are shown as combinations of listed packs; larger quantities are quoted on WhatsApp. Diwali 2026 falls on 8 November.
