CSI Troubleshooting · Deep Fix · Vanilla Discolouration
Your vanilla throws beautifully and then turns brown. Keep the oil. Here are five ways to change how the candle looks instead, what each costs per candle, and a seven-jar test that tells you which one to use.
₹238.88
the same vanilla candle in a Brown Matte jar, against ₹262.48 in the clear jar · CSI live pricing, September 2026
Quick answers — read this first
Should I change my vanilla fragrance oil? No. The oil is doing the hard part, which is throwing well. The browning comes largely from vanillin, and CSI's Vanilla Bean page states 2.5% vanillin and warns of "Potential discoloration". Change how the candle looks, not how it smells.

What are the options? Five, in order of how little they touch the scent: an opaque jar, a tinted amber jar, tinted wax, less light and a truthful label, or blending the vanilla down with a 0%-vanillin oil. Only the last one changes the fragrance.

What does it cost? Per candle, less than you might think: the same 150 g vanilla candle costs ₹262.48 in a clear jar, ₹238.88 in a Brown Matte jar and ₹230.08 in a Salsa Amber jar, because those jars cost less per jar. Tint adds about ₹1.57; a 50:50 blend saves ₹15.92 on oil.

How do I choose? Pour a seven-jar colour test, one variable per jar, photograph it at day 3, 7, 14 and 30, and pick the route that looks intended at day 30. New spend ₹993.22. There is no UV inhibitor to buy: CSI does not list one.
The short answer
Keep: the oil, the load and the wick that give you the throw. Hot throw is the hard problem; colour is the easy one.
Change: the vessel first (opaque or amber), then the wax colour, then light exposure and the label. Blend down only if the candle must stay pale.
Prove it: seven jars, one variable each, an unscented control, photos to day 30. New spend ₹993.22.
Don't buy: a different oil to fix a colour problem, or a UV inhibitor (CSI lists none).
Keep the vanilla, change the look: cost per candle One 150 g candle, 8% load, CSI 464 wax, C1 wick. Only the jar, the wax colour or the oil mix changes. Route 0 · as now clear 150 g jar, Vanilla Bean 8% ₹262.48 Route 1 · opaque jar Brown Matte Glass Jar ₹238.88 Route 2 · tinted glass 200ml Salsa Amber jar ₹230.08 Route 3 · tinted wax clear jar + brown dye (0.1 g) ₹264.05 Route 4 · blend down 6 g vanilla + 6 g sandalwood ₹246.56 Route 0 line Opaque and tinted jars cost less per jar than the 150 g clear jar, so Routes 1 and 2 are cheaper per candle; Route 4 saves on oil. Excludes labour, freight, packaging and GST. Oil at 500 g prices. CSI live pricing, verified 25 September 2026.
Material cost of one 150 g vanilla candle under each presentation route, CSI live pricing. The solid bar is today's candle in the 150 g clear jar. Three of the four alternatives cost less: the opaque and tinted jars are cheaper per jar, and the blend saves on oil but changes the scent. Only tint adds a little. The dye figure uses a 0.1 g worked example, not a stated dosage.
Straight answer
My vanilla candle has excellent hot throw but turns brown. How do I keep a premium look without losing the fragrance?
Keep the oil and change the presentation. Vanillin commonly yellows and browns wax over time, faster in light, and CSI's Vanilla Bean page states 2.5% vanillin with a discolouration warning, so the colour is a property of the scent you chose, not a defect in your batch. You can hide it (an opaque Brown Matte jar, ₹70.80 a jar), let the glass carry it (a Salsa Amber jar, ₹62.00), make it look intended (brown-tinted wax), slow the light-driven part (boxes, no window displays) and say it on the label. Only if the candle must stay pale do you blend the vanilla down with a 0%-vanillin oil such as Sandalwood, which cuts vanillin in the candle in proportion to the vanilla removed but changes the scent. Test all of it in one seven-jar pour with an unscented control for ₹993.22 of new materials, and decide on the day-30 photographs. CSI does not list a UV inhibitor, and a different oil would cost you the throw you already have.
One line: the scent is the product; the colour is packaging, so fix it with packaging.
The cheapest fix may lower your cost. A Brown Matte Glass Jar is ₹70.80 in the pack of 10 (₹708.00), ₹23.60 less per jar than the 150 g clear jar, and it hides the wax wall entirely. In stock on 25 September 2026.

First: is it the vanilla, and is it a fault?

Before you fix a colour, find out what is causing it and whether your customer would ever call it a problem.

Vanillin and some related aromatic components commonly cause wax to yellow and then brown over time, and light tends to speed it up. That is a tendency, not a timetable: how fast and how far depends on the oil, the load, the wax, the storage and the light. What CSI's pages give you is who carries it. Vanilla Bean states "Vanillin Content: 2.5%"; Cinnamon Vanilla states "Vanillin content 2.5%"; Dark Vanilla says "Vanillin present - note for light-coloured wax". Other vanilla-note gourmands state no vanillin figure on the pages we hold, so their risk is unknown until tested. The mechanism and time course are in Why Does Vanilla Fragrance Oil Turn Candle Wax Brown?.

Is it actually the fragrance oil?

Usually yes. But four other things tint candles, and one may be adding to it; rule them out with what you own.

Colour-change suspects · tendencies, not certainties
What else could be browning the candle, and the free check for each
What you see Possible cause besides vanillin Free check If it is this
Tint present at day 1, even in a candle kept in a drawer Wax held hot for a long time, or oil added far above the wax page's temperature Log add temperature and hold time on the next pour; follow the wax page (CSI 464 states a pour temperature of 80°C–90°C) Process fix, no purchase (see the post on adding oil too hot)
Whole candle cream or ivory from the start, unscented too The wax's own colour; soy is naturally off-white Pour one unscented jar from the same wax Nothing to fix; it is your baseline
Browning only on the side facing a window or shop light Light exposure adding to vanillin Turn the jar; compare faces after a week Storage and display, before any purchase
Colour shift only in dyed candles Dye interacting with the oil Pour the same oil undyed Change or drop the dye, not the oil
Dark ring on the glass after burning, wax itself still pale Soot on the glass, not wax colour Wipe the glass when cool Wick and trim (a wick problem, not a colour one)

If the unscented jar keeps its colour and the vanilla jar browns in a drawer as well as on a windowsill, vanillin is the main cause. If it browns only on the window side, storage and display may fix most of it for no spend. General white-candle diagnosis is in My White Candle Turns Beige After Adding Fragrance Oil — Why?.

Is it a fault, or is it vanilla?

A judgement worth making before you spend anything: a premium look comes from consistency, not whiteness. A candle that leaves your studio ivory and reaches the customer tan looks like a fault. One that leaves caramel and stays caramel looks designed. One in an opaque jar never shows the change. Our view is that the problem is surprise, not brown.

Argued against our own interest: the easy sale here would be a new, pale-throwing oil. We would not sell it to you. You already have what most makers struggle for, a vanilla that fills a room. Swapping it to fix a colour means re-testing load, wick and cure on an oil that may throw worse, to solve a problem a ₹70.80 jar solves. We also cannot sell you the "color stabilizers" the Vanilla Bean page mentions, because CSI does not list one, and we will not point you to someone else's.

Five routes that keep the fragrance

Every route below leaves the oil, the load and the wick alone except the last. That is the point.

Ranked by how little they touch the scent, then by cost. Each cost is one 150 g candle at 8%: Vanilla Bean at the 500 g price, 138 g of Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 (₹70.02) and an Eco C1 wick (₹5.90), excluding labour, freight, packaging and GST.

Route 1: an opaque jar hides it completely

The simplest fix. Nobody sees the wall of wax, and a warm-toned top under a lid reads as vanilla. CSI's 200 ml matte and frosted jars share one body ("Height 8 cm width 7 cm") and one price, ₹70.80 a jar in packs of 5 or 10.

Also out of stock on 25 September 2026: the Frosted Brown Glass Jar, the Amber Glass Jar with Bamboo Lid and the Amber Glass Jar 250 ml.

Two data notes. The Amber Shiny jar's description repeats the Black Shiny jar's wording while giving "Capacity: 120 gm"; confirm the colour on WhatsApp before a large order. The Black Glass Jar with Black Lid (150 gram) matches your current shape in a dark colour at ₹107.00 a jar, but its title still carries a December delivery note, so ask before planning around it.

Wick check when the vessel changes
The 200 ml jars' 7 cm width is close to the clear 150 g jar's stated 7 cm, but glass thickness and fill height differ. Pour one candle, log the melt pool at hours 1 to 4, then order in quantity. The re-wick procedure is in How to Choose a Wick After Changing Fragrance Oil.

Route 2: tinted glass carries the colour

Amber glass lets the candle glow but tints everything behind it, so a drift from cream to tan is hard to see. The 200ml Salsa Amber jar is ₹62.00 at every pack size, ₹32.40 less per candle than the clear jar. Whether it also slows light-driven browning in your conditions is for the test (jar 6 against jar 2) to answer, not theory.

Route 3: tint the wax so the change looks intended

If you love your clear jar, colour the wax a pale caramel from the start. The vanillin will still darken it, but a candle that starts at a warm tone and drifts a shade darker looks consistent; one that starts white and drifts tan does not. CSI lists brown as a liquid dye (15 gm ₹236.00), a second liquid listing (15 ml ₹236.00) and dye chips (₹236.00), all in stock on 25 September 2026. No brown dye page states a dose in the text we hold. As a worked example only, if your shade took 0.1 g per candle, a 15 gm bottle would tint about 150 candles at ₹1.57 each. Weigh the drops on a scale, record the grams, and repeat them exactly: an uneven shade across a batch looks worse than browning. The Candle Dye Liquid Brown 100 gm is listed at ₹236.00, the same as its 15 gm; confirm that price on WhatsApp before relying on it.

Light, storage and the label

Light tends to speed browning, so keep stock boxed and away from windows and bright shop lights. A corrugated 3 ply box 7 × 5 × 4 inch (₹26.72 each from the pack of 50) is packaging, not a fix; it slows only the light-driven part. Then say it on the label: "Vanilla deepens in colour naturally over time" turns a complaint into information. Claim only what your own day-30 jars show. CSI does not sell custom labels.

Mistake: fixing a colour with a different oil and discovering, three weeks later, that the new candle is pale and weak. Fix: change one presentation variable at a time, keep the proven oil, load and wick, and only touch the oil (Route 4) if a pale candle is non-negotiable. The policy question of whether to use vanilla in white candles at all is in Should I Avoid Vanilla Fragrances When Making White Candles?.

Blending the vanilla down: the arithmetic and the trade

Less vanillin in the candle means less to brown. It also means less vanilla in the room.

This is the only route that changes the fragrance, so it goes last. The arithmetic is simple and uses nothing but the page's own figure. An oil stated at 2.5% vanillin, used at 12 g in a 150 g candle, puts 0.3 g of vanillin into the candle, 0.20% of its weight. Replace half the vanilla with an oil whose page states 0% vanillin and the candle carries 0.15 g, 0.10%: a 50% cut. A 75:25 blend (9 g vanilla, 3 g partner) carries 0.225 g, 0.15%, a 25% cut. Those are exact on paper. What they do to colour is not proportional in any way we could promise: less vanillin tends to mean slower, lighter browning, and the test tells you how much lighter in your wax.

Blend options on the page figures · Vanilla Bean at 2.5% vanillin, 150 g candle at 8%
Vanillin per candle, oil cost per candle at 500 g prices, and what you give up
Blend Vanilla Bean Partner Vanillin in candle Oil per candle What you give up
All vanilla (as now) 12 g — 0.3 g · 0.20% ₹92.16 Nothing; this is the throw you like
75:25 with Sandalwood 9 g 3 g 0.225 g · 0.15% ₹84.20 A little vanilla; a creamy wood appears underneath
50:50 with Sandalwood 6 g 6 g 0.15 g · 0.10% ₹76.24 A vanilla-sandalwood candle, not a vanilla one
Vanilla alone at 6% 9 g none 0.225 g · 0.15% ₹69.12 Some throw; the same vanillin cut as 75:25 but less fragrance overall

Why Sandalwood. Its page states 0% vanillin and describes a "warm, creamy" wood, which in our judgement sits under vanilla rather than competing with it, and its stated soy ceiling ("up to 10%") matches Vanilla Bean's. A floral alternative is Ylang Ylang Flower, whose page states "Vanillin Content: 0% (No discoloration risk)" and describes "Sweet, rich, and floral with creamy undertones"; it makes a different candle. Either way the 0% is the page's claim; vanillin is one cause of colour change, not the only one.

The throw has to be re-proved. A blend is a new fragrance: judge it blind against your current candle, same wax, wick, jar, load, cure day and closed room. If nobody picks the blend as weaker at 60 minutes, you kept the throw; if they do, you traded throw for colour, the trade this page exists to avoid. A side benefit: at 500 g prices the 50:50 blend is ₹15.92 cheaper in oil per candle.

Two ceilings still apply to a blend
Load is total oil, not per oil. 6 g plus 6 g is 12 g, 8% of a 150 g candle, inside Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464's stated 10% and both oil pages' 10%. Never add the partner on top of your full vanilla dose to "keep the throw"; 12 g plus 6 g would be 12%, above CSI 464's ceiling.

The seven-jar colour test

Seven jars, one pour day, one variable per jar, and a camera. Thirty days later the choice makes itself.

Each jar differs from jar 2, your current candle, in exactly one thing. Jar 1 is unscented, showing the wax's own colour. All jars take 150 g, even the 200 ml ones, so fill and dose stay constant; every scented jar is 8%. All share one shelf and light except jar 3, which lives in a closed box.

Oil: 66 g of vanilla (five jars at 12 g plus 6 g in jar 7) and 6 g of Sandalwood. If you are buying CSI's Vanilla Bean, the 100 g (₹790.00) covers it with 34 g to spare; a 50 g would not. Wax: 978 g. Wicks: seven.

Add oil at your wax page's temperature (CSI 464 states a pour temperature of 80°C–90°C), the same stir time for each, and dye only into jar 4's portion (count drops; weigh ten drops once to learn what one weighs). Label every base with jar number, oil, grams and time. Photograph all seven together against a sheet of white paper, same spot, same lamp, no flash.

If two routes pass, choose on cost, then brand. Combining routes (tinted wax in an amber jar) is fine once each is proven alone; changing two things in production at once is not.

When the answer is "buy nothing": if jar 3 in the box stays pale and jar 2 on the shelf browns, most of your problem is storage and display, and the fix is free. We would rather you kept ₹993.22 in your pocket than bought jars you did not need.

Three scales: a 20-candle gifting batch, a 60-candle festive run, and 150 candles across a season. Oil lines are practical low-cash combinations of listed sizes that cover the grams; stacking extra 15 g bottles can shave a few rupees more. For 20 candles, two 100 g and a 50 g of vanilla cost less cash than a 500 g (₹3,840.00), which is cheaper per gram (₹7.68 against ₹7.90) but leaves 260 g on the shelf; buy the 500 g only if a second batch is coming. The 1 kg of Vanilla Bean is ₹34.00 cheaper than two 500 g packs. Sandalwood is ₹5.03 a gram from 100 g upward, so small packs cost nothing extra per gram there.

The per-jar surprise, as a number
At 150 candles, moving from the clear 150 g jar to the Brown Matte jar lowers batch material value by ₹3,540.00, and to the Salsa Amber jar by ₹4,860.00, if you keep the 150 g fill. Fill the 200 ml jars fuller and that saving goes into extra wax and oil instead.

What to buy, route by route

Two oils (the one you keep and the one you might blend with), two vessels and one dye. Oils are chosen on the page's stated vanillin, load and cure, notes and stock, not on throw, which CSI has not measured. Candle counts assume 150 g at 8%.

gourmand · keep this oil · the reason for the candle
Vanilla Bean Fragrance Oil
If your excellent-throwing vanilla is this one, the product page has already told you what will happen: "Vanillin Content: 2.5% (Potential discoloration; test with lighter waxes or consider adding color stabilizers)". CSI does not currently list a colour stabiliser or UV inhibitor, so the page's second suggestion is not one we can sell you. The page describes the scent as "Creamy, sweet vanilla with subtle caramel undertones", states "Up to 10% for soy wax, Up to 6% for paraffin wax" and a soy cure of 48–72 hours, and recommends wick testing "based on your container size and wax type". Every size is in stock on 25 September 2026. Limitation: it costs more per gram than Sandalwood at every size. On the other hand, the 1 kg is ₹34.00 cheaper than two 500 g packs (₹7,680.00).
Size Price Per gram 150 g candles at 8%
15 gm ₹130.00 ₹8.67 1
50 gm ₹410.00 ₹8.20 4
100 gm ₹790.00 ₹7.90 8
500 gm ₹3,840.00 ₹7.68 41
1 kg ₹7,646.00 ₹7.65 83
Oil per 8% candle: ₹98.40 at the 50 g price, ₹92.16 at 500 g. The 1 kg is 6.8% cheaper per gram than the 50 g. Buy Vanilla Bean

woody · the blend-down partner · 0% vanillin stated
Sandalwood Fragrance Oil
The partner for Route 4. The page states "0% vanillin - no discolouration" (the page's claim; vanillin is one cause of colour change, not the only one, so test it) and describes a "warm, creamy, luxurious single-note sandalwood fragrance oil with a smooth woody aroma and subtle earthy undertone". In our judgement a creamy wood sits more easily under vanilla than a floral, which is why we chose it. Stated load: "up to 10% for soy, up to 6% for paraffin", the same ceiling as Vanilla Bean, so a blend stays inside both pages' limits. Throw wording "Moderate to strong throw" is the page's. For the test you need 6 g, so the 15 g is enough. Limitation: a 50:50 blend is a different candle; it will read as vanilla-sandalwood, not vanilla.
Size Price Per gram 150 g candles at 8%
15 gm ₹93.22 ₹6.21 1
50 gm ₹271.40 ₹5.43 4
100 gm ₹502.68 ₹5.03 8
500 gm ₹2,513.40 ₹5.03 41
1 kg ₹5,026.80 ₹5.03 83
At 500 g prices, a 50:50 blend costs ₹76.24 in oil per candle, ₹15.92 less than all-vanilla. Buy Sandalwood 15 g

jar · Route 1 · opaque vessel
Brown Matte Glass Jar
An opaque brown jar hides the wall of wax completely; only the top surface shows, and a caramel surface under a lid reads as vanilla, not as a fault. The page gives "a fill weight of 200 ml" and "Height 8 cm width 7 cm", about the outer diameter the 150 g clear jar page states (7 cm), so your current wick is a reasonable starting point, though you still retest it. At ₹70.80 a jar it costs ₹23.60 less than the clear 150 g jar. Both pack sizes are in stock on 25 September 2026; the same body also comes as Black Matte and Black Frosted at the same prices. Limitation: the 200 ml fill is larger than 150 g; if you fill it to the line you use more wax and oil per candle.
Size Price Per unit What it covers
Pack of 5 ₹354.00 ₹70.80 the colour test (one jar) plus four spares
Pack of 10 ₹708.00 ₹70.80 a first batch of 10 vanilla candles
₹70.80 per jar, flat across both pack sizes. Buy Brown Matte jars

jar · Route 2 · tinted glass
200ml Salsa Amber Glass Jar with 63mm Lug Cap (Golden Lid)
Amber glass lets the candle glow but tints everything behind it, so gradual browning reads as the glass colour. At ₹62.00 a jar, flat from 5 to 100, it is the lowest per-jar price of the 150 g and 200 ml tinted jars in this post. The listing's text describes a 200 ml jar with a golden lug cap; its description is generic salsa-jar copy and does not state a diameter, so measure yours and run a wick check. All three pack sizes are in stock on 25 September 2026. Limitation: the amber tint changes how your wax looks from day one; if your brand is built on a white candle, this route changes the brand, not just the jar.
Size Price Per unit What it covers
Pack of 5 ₹310.00 ₹62.00 the colour test, or a 5-candle trial
Pack of 50 ₹3,100.00 ₹62.00 a 50-candle festive run
Pack of 100 ₹6,200.00 ₹62.00 a season of 100 candles
₹62.00 per jar at every pack size; no bulk discount per jar. Buy Salsa Amber jars

dye · Route 3 · tint the wax on purpose
Candle Dye Liquid | Brown
Colour the wax to the shade vanilla is heading for, so the change becomes smaller and looks intended. The page says brown "in soy wax tends to produce lighter to medium shades of brown" because soy is "naturally opaque", and it does not state a dosage, so weigh your drops and write them down. One customer review on this listing says it will "give you various shades like light to dark depending upon the amount of dye you add". There is a second listing, Brown Candle Dye Liquid (15 ml ₹236.00, 50 ml ₹590.00, 100 ml ₹1,062.00), and Brown Candle Dye Chips at ₹236.00; all in stock on 25 September 2026. Limitation: dye can change how a wick burns, so the tinted jar in the test gets its melt pool logged too.
Size Price Per unit What it covers
15 gm ₹236.00 ₹15.73 per gram about 150 candles at the 0.1 g worked example
50 gm ₹472.00 ₹9.44 per gram a season of tinted candles
100 gm (listed at the same price as 15 gm) ₹236.00 confirm on WhatsApp probably a listing error; ask before ordering
At the 0.1 g worked example, tint adds ₹1.57 per candle. Buy Brown dye 15 gm
What not to buy: a replacement oil to fix colour, 1 kg of anything before day 30, and dye in quantity before one tinted jar has burned cleanly. We sell all three. Start with a pack of 5 jars and a 15 gm bottle.

Diwali and Christmas: a dated plan

Diwali falls on 8 November 2026 and Christmas on 25 December 2026, and vanilla is a natural gifting scent for both. The colour test gives you an early read on 13 October and the full picture on 29 October, which is the honest problem: a Diwali decision has to be made on 14 days of colour data. Our suggestion is to use the safe route for Diwali and the proven route for Christmas.

The dates: order the test set by 27 September and pour on 29 September. On 13 October (day 14), run the blind throw check and make the Diwali call; an opaque jar (Route 1) is the lowest-risk pick because it hides the wall whatever day 30 shows. Pour Diwali stock on 16 October after one wick-check candle, spot-burn at day 14 on 30 October, and dispatch. On 29 October (day 30) choose the Christmas route on the full evidence, and pour Christmas stock in mid-November for a 14-day cure and early-December dispatch. The festival dates are calendar facts; the rest is a plan. Dispatch times depend on your location, so confirm them on WhatsApp before promising a customer a date.

Festive vanilla, 8 November and 25 December 2026: once the test has picked your route, ask for Brown Matte or Salsa Amber jars in 50s or 100s and Vanilla Bean in 500 g or 1 kg, with a GST invoice and a dispatch date that fits your cure.

The CSI principle
When the scent works, change the packaging, not the formula.
A vanilla that throws well took you weeks to prove. A jar or a shade of wax takes one pour to test, and it can lower your cost per candle rather than raise it.
"A premium candle is not a white candle. It is a candle that looks the same on the day it is opened as on the day it was sold."

Why trust this guide

CandleMakingSuppliesIndia sells the oils, jars, dyes and wax named here and does not sell finished candles. This page tells you not to buy a new oil, points out that CSI does not list a colour stabiliser, and recommends jars that cost less per candle than the one you are using. That is deliberate: the right fix keeps a customer.

Every price and per-gram figure was verified on CSI's live store on 25 September 2026. Jars, dyes and oils that are out of stock on that date are flagged and never offered as buyable. Vanillin, load, cure, notes and throw wording are quoted from product pages; where a page is silent, as on dye dosage and the Salsa Amber jar's diameter, we say so.

The route ranking, the colour-score scale, the seven-jar layout, the 0.1 g dye example and the judgement that consistency matters more than whiteness are editorial; CSI has no measured discolouration data for any oil. Frequently asked questions

Why does my vanilla candle turn brown over time?
Vanillin, a common component of vanilla fragrance oils, tends to yellow and brown wax over time, faster in light. CSI's Vanilla Bean and Cinnamon Vanilla pages each state 2.5% vanillin; Dark Vanilla's says "Vanillin present". Rule out long hot holding, dye and light first with an unscented jar and a boxed jar.
How do I stop my vanilla candle from discolouring without changing the fragrance?
Hide it or make it intentional: an opaque jar (Brown Matte, ₹70.80 a jar), an amber jar (Salsa Amber, ₹62.00), brown-tinted wax, boxed storage and an honest label. Test them together in a seven-jar pour for ₹993.22 of new materials and decide on day-30 photos.
Does CSI sell a UV inhibitor or colour stabiliser for candles?
No. CSI does not currently list a UV inhibitor or colour stabiliser, although the Vanilla Bean page mentions stabilisers. Use vessel, tint, storage and blending instead, and test each.
What colour jar hides vanilla candle discolouration best?
An opaque jar hides the wall completely: CSI's Brown Matte, Black Matte and Black Frosted jars (200 ml fill, 8 × 7 cm) are in stock. Amber glass tints what shows. Clear frosted glass softens the change but does not hide it.
Will blending vanilla fragrance oil with another oil reduce browning?
It reduces the vanillin in the candle in proportion: a 50:50 blend with a 0%-vanillin oil halves it (0.20% to 0.10% of the candle at 8%). Less vanillin tends to mean less browning, but it also changes the scent, so re-prove the throw blind before adopting it.
Does adding brown dye to a vanilla candle affect hot throw?
Dye is added for colour, not scent, but it can change how a wick burns, so log the melt pool on a tinted test candle. No CSI dye page states a dosage; weigh your drops and record them so every batch matches.

Vanillin percentages are the pages' own figures; the vanillin-per-candle arithmetic follows from them and says nothing certain about colour. Jar sizes are page wording.
