CSI Wick Buying · One Odd Fragrance
When one fragrance needs its own wick, the wick is the cheap part of the decision. Stock it, unless a lower load would make the better candle anyway; then the oil pays for the retest.
₹118.00
Eco C1 20-pack: the whole first order for the extra wick SKU · CSI live pricing, October 2026
Quick answers — read this first
One fragrance needs a different wick from the rest of my range. Stock it or change the load? Decide on throw first, money second. If the fragrance only works at its current load, stock the extra wick: in this example it is C1, CSI's cheapest tabbed wick, so the extra SKU costs a 20-pack (₹118.00) and saves ₹3.54 a candle against your house C2. If a lower load would satisfy you anyway, test it, because the oil saving dwarfs the wick.

What does each option cost to start? Option A (keep 9% Coffee Vanilla Tobacco on C1): ₹118.00. Option B (7% on the house C2): a six-candle retest, 7% and 8% × 3, that consumes ₹1,651.60 including jars (₹2,349.40 in cash if your C2 comes from house stock).

When does reformulating pay? Per candle, 7% on C2 uses 3 g less oil and costs ₹20.73 less in materials than 9% on C1. The test bill is repaid after about 80 candles: within a month at 80 a month, in about four months at 20. That assumes the 7% candle throws well enough for you, which only a blind test can show.

Should I avoid an extra wick SKU at all costs? No. With CSI's flat per-wick pricing, an extra tabbed wick costs a small pack, a little safety stock and a labelled bin. Never change a fragrance's load just to save a wick SKU.
The short answer
Throw first: if the lower load is not good enough on a blind sniff, option B is off the table and the extra wick is the answer.
Option A (extra SKU): Eco C1 20-pack ₹118.00; safety stock ₹118.00–₹619.50 across 20–200 candles a month (worked example); worst-case dead stock under ₹1,858.50.
Option B (reformulate): six retest candles = ₹1,651.60; then ₹20.73 a candle cheaper in materials, almost all of it oil.
Break-even: about 80 reformulated candles repay the test. Below 20 a month, A is simpler; above 80, B pays back inside a month, throw permitting.
The wick is the small number. The load is the big one. Worked example: CSI 150 g Clear Glass Jar, CSI 464, Coffee Vanilla Tobacco. Oil and wax at 1 kg prices; jar excluded. Option A keeps 9% and stocks C1 for this one oil. Option B drops to 7% to stay on the house C2. CSI live prices, 1 October 2026. A · 9% on C1 extra wick SKU oil ₹116.09 wax ₹69.26 ₹191.25 wick ₹5.90 B · 7% on C2 reformulated load oil ₹90.29 wax ₹70.78 ₹170.51 wick ₹9.44 B is ₹20.73 a candle cheaper: oil saves ₹25.80, the dearer wick and extra wax give back ₹5.06. Months for option B to repay its ₹1,651.60 test bill Throw permitting. If the 7% candle throws too little for you, this curve does not apply and A wins. 0 1 2 3 4 0 50 100 150 200 Coffee Vanilla Tobacco candles a month months 20/month: 4.0 mo 40/month: 2.0 mo 60/month: 1.3 mo 100/month: 0.8 mo 200/month: 0.4 mo about 80 candles a month repays it within one month A's own fixed cost is small: C1 safety stock ₹118.00 to ₹619.50 across the same range. Worked example, not CSI burn data.
Top: what one 150 g Coffee Vanilla Tobacco candle costs in materials under each option, drawn to scale. The wick difference is a sliver and runs in A's favour; the oil difference is the whole story. Bottom: how long the 7% retest takes to repay itself at different monthly volumes, if, and only if, the 7% candle throws well enough for you. The curve is worked-example arithmetic, not a burn result.
Straight answer
One fragrance needs a different wick from every other candle in my range. Should I stock that additional wick or reformulate the fragrance load?
Stock the extra wick, unless you would choose the lower load on its own merits. In the worked example your range burns on Eco C2 in the 150 g Clear Glass Jar, and Coffee Vanilla Tobacco at 9% has passed full life only on C1. The extra SKU is cheap to carry: the smallest in-stock C1 pack is 20 for ₹118.00, C1 costs ₹3.54 a candle less than C2, and the safety stock is a few hundred rupees at most. Reformulating to 7% to stay on C2 costs a six-candle retest (₹1,651.60 in materials) and a possible loss of throw that no spreadsheet can price. What reformulating does buy is oil: 3 g less per candle, ₹20.73 a candle cheaper overall, repaying the retest after about 80 candles. So the order of questions is: does 7% or 8% throw well enough on a blind test? If no, buy the C1 20-pack and stop. If yes, the lower load pays for itself in oil, and the wick follows.
One line: never change a fragrance to save a wick SKU; change it only if the lower load is a better candle, and let the oil pay for the test.
Option A in one line: Eco C1 20-pack, ₹118.00 (the 10-pack is out of stock on 1 October 2026). Option B: Coffee Vanilla Tobacco 2 × 50 g (₹898.00), CSI 464 1 kg (₹507.40) and a 150 g jar pack of 10 (₹944.00). All in stock on 1 October 2026.
Eco C1 — ₹118.00 for 20

The two orders on the table

One order is a pack of wicks. The other is six candles and a question about throw.

The worked example: a range on Eco C2 in CSI's 150 g Clear Glass Jar ("150g fill capacity"; about 6.3 cm inside on our labelled 0.35 cm wall assumption, 31.17 cm² of pool), poured in CSI 464 at 80–85°C because the jar page's "Safe for hot pour up to 85°C" is lower than the wax page's 80–90°C. Coffee Vanilla Tobacco at 9% (13.5 g oil + 136.5 g wax) ran a large flame with carbon on C2 and passed three full-life candles on C1. Every other oil passed on C2. If your odd one has not yet passed full life on its own wick, that comes first; this page starts after the evidence is in.

Why test 8% as well as 7%: the page's range is 7–9%, and 8% may keep more of the 9% character while still settling on C2. If 8% passes, it saves ₹12.90 of oil a candle against 9% (₹8.60 a candle overall once the wick change is netted off). How to run a load-down retest properly, current wick plus the rung below, is the 10%-to-8% retest post; this page only prices it.

Two 50 g bottles, not one 100 g
Coffee Vanilla Tobacco's 100 g is ₹899.00 (₹8.99 a gram) and its 50 g ₹449.00 (₹8.98 a gram), so two 50 g bottles cost ₹898.00, ₹1.00 less for the same 100 g. A small thing, but it is the kind of pack fact worth checking on every oil.

What an extra wick SKU really costs

The extra wick here is the cheaper wick. Its cost is a bin, a label and a habit.

People treat a new wick SKU as expensive because it feels like complexity. In CSI's range the numbers are small, and in this case they even run the other way: every CVT candle on C1 uses a ₹5.90 wick instead of a ₹9.44 one. The real costs are four, and only one of them is a rupee figure you can write down in advance.

The cost of carrying one extra wick SKU · option A
Worked example · flat per-wick pricing · safety stock = half a month, never below one 20-pack (judgement)
Cost What it is Size in this example
Pack outlay The smallest pack you can buy ₹118.00 for 20; the 10-pack is out of stock
Safety stock C1 sitting on the shelf so CVT production never waits ₹118.00 at 20 candles a month to ₹619.50 at 200
Dead-stock exposure What is left if CVT is dropped or reformulated later at most safety stock + a month of packs: ₹185.85 to ₹1,858.50
Mix-up risk A C1 in a C2 candle (under-wicked) or a C2 in a CVT candle (the failure you just tested out) not a rupee figure: separate labelled bins, wick type on the batch sheet
Per-candle wick cost C1 vs your house C2 ₹3.54 less per CVT candle

Because C1, C2 and Cotton Braided are flat per wick, there is no volume penalty for splitting your buying across two SKUs: 63 C1 a month cost ₹5.90 each whether you buy them as 50 + 20 or as a 100. The only pack effect is rounding, a few spare wicks in a pack you will open next month. The general case for carrying generous safety stock of cheap, small items is the wicks-versus-oil safety-stock post.

Mistake: forcing the odd fragrance onto the house wick "for simplicity" without a retest. Why it fails: you already know it fails on C2 at 9%: large flame and carbon are burn faults, not cosmetic ones. Fix: either carry the C1 (cheap) or change the load and retest (evidence). Simplicity is a reason to test, not a reason to skip. Whether a low-volume oil could share a neighbour's approved wick after a trial is the sharing-trial post, a different question from this one.

The mirror case is worth a line. If your odd fragrance needs a bigger wick than the house C2 (it tunnels, and Cotton Braided passes), the extra SKU costs ₹2.56 more per candle and the smallest pack is 10 for ₹120.00. The logic is the same, only the per-candle sign flips: still small next to the oil. Ask us if that is your case.

What reformulating the load really costs

A lower load is cheaper per candle. Whether it is a better candle is a different question, and it comes first.

Reformulating costs three things. The test bill is known: six candles, ₹1,651.60 including jars. The time is known: cure plus full-life burns before the new load can go on sale, weeks rather than days. The throw is not known, and it is the cost that decides. The page's own wording, "strong throw at lower loads", is a reason to try 7% and 8%; it is not a measurement, and CSI has no throw data for any oil.

Do not assume a lower load simply calms the flame. A lower load can reduce carbon on the wick, and it can also let the flame burn taller, because a heavy oil load is one of the things commonly linked to a smaller, sootier flame. That is why the retest uses C2, the wick you want to stay on, and burns to the bottom rather than stopping at the first good pool. Which lever to pull first when a candle sits between wick and load is the wick-up-or-load-down post; non-wick ways to keep a candle strong are the strength-roadmap post.

Materials per 150 g candle · production prices · worked example
Oil at the 1 kg price (₹8.60/g) · CSI 464 at the 1 kg price · wick at the flat per-wick price · jar excluded
Configuration Oil Wax Wick Materials vs A
A · 9% on C1 (approved) 13.5 g = ₹116.09 136.5 g = ₹69.26 ₹5.90 ₹191.25 —
B · 8% on C2 (to test) 12 g = ₹103.19 138 g ₹9.44 ₹182.65 ₹8.60 cheaper
B · 7% on C2 (to test) 10.5 g = ₹90.29 139.5 g = ₹70.78 ₹9.44 ₹170.51 ₹20.73 cheaper

The oil alone saves ₹25.80 a candle between A and 7%; the dearer C2 wick and the extra 3 g of wax give back ₹5.06. The wick runs the other way. So if the lower load wins, it wins on oil, and the wick SKU question disappears as a side effect. Argued against our own interest: at 100 CVT candles a month, 7% means ₹2,579.70 of Coffee Vanilla Tobacco a month that you no longer buy from us. We would still rather you ran the load that makes the better candle.

Don't buy the 1 kg yet: if you are leaning towards reformulating, do not restock Coffee Vanilla Tobacco at 1 kg (₹8,599.00) for the 9% formula until the 7%/8% retest is read. A kilo is 74 candles at 9% or 95 at 7%; that difference changes your next order size. The 500 g (₹4,399.00) covers the weeks of the retest.

The break-even table, in candles a month

Volume decides how fast a reformulation pays. It never decides whether the candle is good enough.

Every figure below is a worked example on the prices above: C1 a month at a 5% allowance, safety stock at half a month (never below one 20-pack), worst-case dead stock as safety stock plus a month of packs, and option B's materials saving of ₹20.73 a candle set against its ₹1,651.60 test bill.

Break-even · extra C1 SKU vs 7% reformulation · Coffee Vanilla Tobacco
Candles a month of the odd fragrance · all rupee figures declared · excludes labour, freight, packaging and GST
CVT candles a month A: C1 a month A: safety stock A: worst-case dead stock B: saving a month B: months to repay the test
20 21 ₹118.00 ₹185.85 ₹414.70 4.0
40 42 ₹123.90 ₹371.70 ₹829.39 2.0
60 63 ₹185.85 ₹557.55 ₹1,244.09 1.3
100 105 ₹309.75 ₹929.25 ₹2,073.48 0.8
200 210 ₹619.50 ₹1,858.50 ₹4,146.96 0.4

Read it across. Option A's costs barely move: even at 200 candles a month the C1 safety stock is ₹619.50, and that is stock you will use. Option B's saving scales with volume, so the test pays back in about four months at 20 candles a month and inside a month from about 80. That is the whole money case. Throw sits above it: if the 7% candle loses on a blind comparison, none of the right-hand column happens.

When the throw difference is close
If 7% loses narrowly and 8% ties, take 8%: it still saves ₹8.60 a candle against 9% on C1 and keeps you on the house wick. If both lose, stock C1 and stop testing. A tie is not a reason to buy more candles of evidence.

Decide in this order

Safety first, then throw, then money. Never the other way round.
1
Confirm the odd one really is oddThree candles failing on the house wick and three passing on another, full life, same jar batch and wax bag. One bad candle is not a new SKU.
2
Buy option A's pack nowThe C1 20-pack (₹118.00) lets CVT production continue while you decide. It is never wasted: if you reformulate, the spares become test stock.
3
Pour the 7% and 8% retest on C2Three of each, 67.5 g of oil and 832.5 g of wax, poured at 80–85°C in the 150 g jar. Cure them alongside a retained 9% C1 candle.
4
Blind-sniff before you burn to the bottomCoded candles, fresh noses, a closed room of known size, the 9% candle in the line-up. If neither lower load is acceptable, stop: option A wins and the remaining burns are optional.
5
Burn the winner to full life on C2About 2.5-hour sessions or longer (a very rough hour per 2.5 cm of width), trimmed to about 5–6 mm, still air, flame-to-glass judged by eye, never by touch. All three must pass.
6
Update the batch sheet and the buyingNew load, same wick: retire C1 to test stock. Old load, new wick: give C1 its own bin, label and reorder point.

If you go with option A, size C1 from CVT's sales alone. Worked example: 60 CVT candles a month at a 5% allowance is 63 C1 a month, bought as a 50-pack and a 20-pack (₹413.00); at 2.1 a day, a 14-day lead time and half a month of safety stock, reorder at 61 wicks. CSI does not publish lead times or stock depth; confirm dispatch on WhatsApp. Oil for the same month is 810 g at 9% or 630 g at 7%. How the odd SKU fits into the wider range of rungs you stock is the inventory-reference post; reorder points across several sizes are the reorder-point post.

Don't buy the C1 100-pack to "commit" to option A: at 60 candles a month a 100-pack (₹590.00) is over six weeks of cover at exactly the same ₹5.90 per wick as the 20-pack. Argued against our own interest: buy 20 now, size the next order from real CVT sales, and keep the door open to the reformulation.

The worked example's oil. The page lists "fresh brewed coffee and cocoa top notes, a vanilla cream and tonka bean heart, and a tobacco leaf, amber, and soft musk base" and states "Recommended load - candles: 7-9% soy wax (strong throw at lower loads)": the throw wording is the page's, and it is the reason a 7% or 8% retest is worth running, not proof that it will pass. 9% is the page's top and inside CSI 464's 10% (9.89% of wax weight). Every size is in stock on 1 October 2026; there is no 15 g. Per gram, the 100 g (₹8.99) is fractionally dearer than the 50 g (₹8.98): two 50 g bottles cost ₹898.00, ₹1.00 less than one 100 g. Limitation: it is among the dearer candle oils per gram, which is why the load matters more than the wick.

With CSI 464 (page: "Pour Temperature 80°C – 90°C") that means pouring at 80–85°C: the lower stated limit governs. On our 0.35 cm wall assumption it is about 6.3 cm inside, 31.17 cm² of pool. The 85°C is a pour figure, not a burn rating. Limitation: it states no internal diameter; measure yours.

Skip for this decision: Cotton Braided Wicks (₹120.00 for 10): a step the wrong way for a fragrance that already burns too hard on C2. Performance Wooden Wicks (₹590.00 for 10): a construction change is a new system test, not a fix for one fragrance. Roasted Coffee as a substitute: a different oil (page: "candles (6-10%)") restarts the approval rather than ending it.

Diwali is 8 November 2026, 38 days from 1 October 2026. A 7%/8% retest poured now can be blind-sniffed in mid-October, but full life takes the weeks after. For Diwali stock, the safe plan is option A for this season and the reformulation, if it wins, from the next production run. Send us the split and we will quote it with a GST invoice and a dispatch date.

The CSI principle
Never change a fragrance to save a wick. Change it only if it makes a better candle.
An extra tabbed wick at CSI costs a small pack and a labelled bin. A load change costs a retest and a throw question, and pays back in oil if the answer is yes.
"A wick SKU is cheap to keep. A customer who misses the old throw is not."
— CandleMakingSuppliesIndia
Why trust this guide

CandleMakingSuppliesIndia sells the wicks, oil, jars and wax named here, and does not sell finished candles. This page still points out that reformulating to 7% means buying less of our oil, that our C1 100-pack costs exactly what five 20-packs do per wick, and that an extra wick SKU is the cheap option.

Every price was verified on CSI's live store on 1 October 2026. Stock was checked per size: the Eco C1 10-pack is out of stock on that date and flagged wherever it appears; every other size shown is in stock. Product wording is quoted from the pages; where a page is silent in the text we captured, we say so.

The scenario (range on C2, Coffee Vanilla Tobacco passing on C1 at 9%), the 5% allowance, safety-stock and dead-stock rules, the volumes, the 14-day lead time and the 0.35 cm wall are our judgement or worked examples; CSI publishes no wick-performance or throw data. Frequently asked questions

Is it bad to use different wick sizes for different candle scents?
No. Fragrances commonly burn differently in the same jar, and most ranges end up on two or three wicks. With CSI's flat per-wick pricing, an extra tabbed wick costs a small pack and some shelf space, not a higher price per candle.
Can I lower the fragrance load instead of changing the wick?
Sometimes, but only with a retest on the wick you want to keep, burned to the bottom, and a blind throw comparison against the current candle. A lower load can reduce carbon on the wick and can also let the flame burn taller; test, don't assume.
What load should I use for Coffee Vanilla Tobacco fragrance oil?
The CSI page states "Recommended load - candles: 7-9% soy wax (strong throw at lower loads)". Inside CSI 464's 10% ceiling, test 7% and 8% against 9% in your own jar and wax.
How much does a fragrance load reduction save per candle?
In a 150 g candle, 9% to 7% is 3 g of oil. With Coffee Vanilla Tobacco at its 1 kg price, and the wick moving from C1 to C2, materials fall by ₹20.73 a candle in the worked example.
What is the smallest pack of C1 wicks I can buy from CSI?
The 20-pack at ₹118.00; the 10-pack is out of stock on 1 October 2026. C1 costs ₹5.90 a wick in every pack up to 1,000.
How do I avoid mixing up two similar wicks in production?
Give each its own labelled bin, write the wick type on every batch sheet, and keep the packets sealed until pour day. Eco C1 and C2 come from the same listing, so do not rely on telling them apart by eye once they are out of the packet.
One odd fragrance, two honest options
C1 20-pack ₹118.00 now; a 7%/8% retest only if the lower load could be the better candle.
Keep production moving on the extra wick, blind-test the lower loads against your current candle, and reformulate only if throw holds and the full-life burn passes. Send us your range and volumes on WhatsApp and we will price both options.

About this guide: part of CSI's cluster on fragrance changing the wick (5521–5540): what to do when one fragrance needs a different wick from the rest of a range, set out as two orders (stock the extra wick, or retest a lower load on the house wick), the real cost of carrying an extra wick SKU, the reformulation test bill and throw trade-off, and a break-even table in candles a month.

Non-price figures: load is a percentage of total candle weight (150 g at 9% = 13.5 g oil + 136.5 g wax; 8% = 12 g + 138 g; 7% = 10.5 g + 139.5 g). The 6.3 cm inside diameter of the 150 g jar rests on a labelled 0.35 cm wall assumption; the page states "outer diameter 7cm". Ceilings are as the pages state (CSI 464 up to 10%; Coffee Vanilla Tobacco 7–9% in soy): formulation limits, not regulatory ones. The burn-session length is a commonly cited rule of thumb. The scenario, allowance, safety-stock and dead-stock rules, volumes and lead time are editorial judgement and worked examples. Costs exclude labour, freight, packaging and GST.
