CSI Wick Buying · Throw vs Burn
Hot throw lives in the melt pool; an aggressive burn lives in the flame. Test smaller flames that still fill the pool, cheapest option first, and never keep a burn fault for the sake of the smell.
₹212.40
Eco C1 20 + Eco C2 10: two smaller wicks, one rung down and a fallback pair · CSI live pricing, October 2026
Quick answers — read this first
Can I fix an aggressive wick without losing my hot throw? Often, yes, because throw comes mainly from a full, hot melt pool, not from a big flame. The option most likely to keep it in a wide jar is two smaller wicks: full pool width, less flame each. But the red line comes first: if the flame, soot, carbon or the flame's closeness to the glass fails, the wick changes, whatever the throw.

What do I buy? For the worked example (CSI's 500 gm Apothecary jar, 8% Citrus Lemon, Cotton Braided today): Eco C1 20 (₹118.00; the 10-pack is out of stock) and Eco C2 10 (₹94.40): ₹212.40. That covers three candles on 2 × C1, three on a single C2, and a fallback of three on 2 × C2.

Is there a cheaper fix than new wicks? Only if the aggression starts after a session length you can print. Then the fix is a printed session and care labels (₹0.83 a candle from the ₹413.00 roll), checked first on three candles you already have. If it burns too hard inside that session, a label is not a fix.

What does each option do to my cost per candle? Against Cotton Braided (₹12.00): single C2 saves ₹2.56, two C1 save ₹0.20, two C2 cost ₹6.88 more, labels add ₹0.83. The test candles cost far more than the wicks: about ₹568.52 each in materials, jar included.
The short answer
Red line: throw never justifies a flame, soot, carbon or flame-to-glass failure. Fix the burn, then protect the throw.
Ranked by cost to find out: 1 labels (no new candles; the ₹413.00 roll only after a pass) · 2 single C2 (₹94.40 + 3 candles) · 3 two C1 (₹118.00 + 3 candles) · 4 two C2 (same C2 pack, 3 candles only if needed).
Likely winner in a wide jar: two C1, 4.6 cm apart (judgement): 33.96 cm² each instead of 67.93 cm² for one flame.
Approve: three candles per option, same load, full life, plus a blind sniff against a retained candle of today's build.
Keep the throw, cut the power: four options, cheapest to find out first Worked example: CSI Apothecary Dome Lid jar (500 gm), about 9.3 cm inside on our 0.35 cm wall, 500 g at 8% Citrus Lemon in CSI 464. Today: one Cotton Braided, strong throw, big flame. Top views to scale (0.9 px per mm). Same load in every option. RED LINE: reject any option whose flame, soot, carbon or flame-to-glass fails, whatever the throw 1 Cotton Braided Printed session + care labels Buy: Candle Care Stickers 500, ₹413.00, after the check Per candle: +₹0.83 on top of today's wick Valid only if it burns calmly within the printed session 2 C2 One rung down: single C2 Buy: Eco C2 10-pack, ₹94.40 (3 used) Per candle: ₹2.56 cheaper than Cotton Braided Risk: pool stops short of the glass; throw falls with it 3 4.6 cm 2 × C1 Two smaller wicks: 2 × C1, 4.6 cm apart Buy: Eco C1 20-pack, ₹118.00 (6 used) Per candle: ₹0.20 cheaper than Cotton Braided Most likely to keep full width with less flame each 4 4.6 cm 2 × C2 Fallback: 2 × C2 Buy: nothing more (6 from the same C2 pack) Per candle: ₹6.88 dearer than Cotton Braided Only if 2 × C1 is short of the edge; watch heat Pool: 67.93 cm² for one wick; 33.96 cm² each for two. Spacing is a starting point for testing (judgement). Wick prices flat per wick in every pack. CSI live prices, 1 October 2026. Materials exclude labour, freight, packaging and GST. Worked example, not CSI burn data.
The four options in order of what it costs to find out, each with its top view drawn to scale on a 9.3 cm inside diameter (our labelled assumption for CSI's 10 cm Apothecary jar). Option 1 changes how the candle is burned, not the candle; options 2–4 change the wick at the same 8% load. The red line sits above all four: an option that keeps the throw but fails the burn is rejected.
Straight answer
My candle has excellent hot throw but the wick burns too aggressively. Can I solve the burn problem without reducing fragrance performance?
Usually you can, because hot throw comes mainly from the melt pool, a full-width pool at a sensible depth, rather than from the size of the flame. So the aim is to keep the pool and cut the power. In a wide jar such as CSI's 500 gm Apothecary Dome Lid jar (about 9.3 cm inside on our labelled wall assumption), the option most likely to do both is two smaller wicks: two Eco C1 set 4.6 cm apart melt 33.96 cm² each instead of one Cotton Braided carrying 67.93 cm² alone (our judgement, to be tested). One rung down to a single C2 is cheaper per candle but risks a pool that stops short of the glass, and a narrower pool commonly means less throw. A printed session and care labels are the cheapest fix, but only if the candle burns calmly within that session. Buy Eco C1 20 and Eco C2 10 (₹212.40), test three candles per option at the same 8% load to full life, and blind-sniff against a retained candle of today's build. And keep the red line: an option that fails on flame, soot, carbon or flame-to-glass is rejected however well it smells.
One line: the pool makes the throw and the flame makes the trouble, so test smaller flames that still fill the pool.
The cut-power wick order: Eco C1 20-pack (₹118.00; the 10-pack is out of stock on 1 October 2026) and Eco C2 10-pack (₹94.40). Add wick stickers (40 for ₹100.00) to fix the pairs. All in stock on 1 October 2026.
Eco C1/C2 — from ₹94.40

The red line first

We would rather you sold a candle that throws a little less than one that burns a little too hot.

Before ranking options, fix the rule that ranks them out. A strong throw from an aggressive wick is not a trade-off to manage; it is a burn fault with a nice smell. Commonly used benchmarks, labelled as rules of thumb: a trimmed flame within about 2.5–5 cm, a pool about 0.5–1 cm deep, no sustained soot, no carbon heads that drop into the wax, and the flame never sitting close to the glass in the final third. How close the flame sits to the glass is judged by eye, or with a non-contact thermometer, which CSI does not list; never by touching the jar. The full red-line policy, the list of observations no throw gain can buy, is the better-throw, hotter-jar post; how to tell whether a stronger smell is masking a poor burn is the masking post.

Mistake: keeping the aggressive wick because customers love the throw, and asking them to "burn it for shorter". Why it fails: a candle that is too hot within an ordinary session is a wick problem, and people burn longer than labels say. Fix: labels only for a candle that passes at the printed session; a wick change for one that doesn't. If your jar also runs hot near the bottom, whether that is the jar or the wick is the hot-final-burn post.

This page owns the purchase: what to buy, in what order, and what each option does to your cost per candle. The worked example is CSI's 500 gm Apothecary Dome Lid jar filled to its stated ~500 g at 8% (40 g of Citrus Lemon + 460 g of CSI 464), on one Cotton Braided, with a strong throw, a tall flame and a pool that runs deep by the third hour. The page gives one set of dimensions for its two sizes (about 10 cm across the outside, 10.8 cm tall without the lid); on our 0.35 cm wall assumption that is 9.3 cm inside, 35% more pool than an 8 cm jar.

The keep-throw, cut-power buy list, ranked by cost

Four options, cheapest to find out first. You will probably only need to pour two.

Ranked by what you spend to find out, then by what the option does to every candle afterwards. If you already make this candle, the oil, wax and jars come from stock; the purchase is wicks and fixings. The test candles are the real cost: at a 500 g fill each one is about ₹559.08 in materials before the wick, almost all of it wax, oil and the jar.

1 Printed session + care labels (only if valid) Candle Care Stickers Roll 500, after the check ₹413.00 ₹0.83 3 from stock, today's build +₹0.83

3 Two smaller wicks: 2 × C1, 4.6 cm apart Eco C1 20-pack (10-pack out of stock) ₹118.00 ₹5.90 3 new (6 wicks) ₹0.20 cheaper
4 Fallback: 2 × C2 the same C2 10-pack (3 + 6 = 9 of 10) nothing more ₹9.44 3, only if 2 × C1 falls short ₹6.88 dearer
— Fixing the pairs Wick stickers, sheet of 40 ₹100.00 ₹2.50 9 tabs —
First order Wicks ₹212.40; with stickers ₹312.40; labels ₹413.00 only after option 1 passes. Test candles consumed: wave 1 ₹3,418.22, wave 2 ₹1,733.89 (jars included); the label check uses three candles of today's build (₹1,713.25 of stock).

Why the C2 pack is 10 and not 20: three for the single and six for the fallback pair is nine. Why the C1 pack is 20: the 10-pack is out of stock on 1 October 2026, and the six wicks of the pair arm leave 14, enough to re-pour a split cell twice. Because C1, C2 and Cotton Braided cost the same per wick in every pack, nothing larger saves you anything at this stage.

Don't buy the label roll yet: option 1 is only valid if three candles of today's build burn calmly through every session at the length you intend to print. If they run hot inside that session, the ₹413.00 roll is money spent on telling customers to manage a fault. Argued against our own interest: run the check on candles you already have before you buy anything from us for it.

What each option risks

A smaller flame is easy. A smaller flame that still melts to the glass is the job.

Hot throw comes from fragrance evaporating off the heated pool; a pool that is too small, too shallow or not yet full releases less. That is why the ranking above is not the same as the ranking by likely success. The geometry below is π r² on the inside diameter: arithmetic, not a burn prediction.

Each option against the pool · 9.3 cm inside (labelled assumption)
Area per flame and wick-to-wall distance, declared · what tends to happen, hedged · our judgement on throw risk
Option Area per flame Wick to wall What tends to change Throw risk
Today: one Cotton Braided 67.93 cm² 4.65 cm Big flame, fast deep pool (the problem) — (the reference)
1 · labels, same wick 67.93 cm² 4.65 cm Nothing in the candle; shorter sessions in use none, if valid
2 · single C2 67.93 cm² 4.65 cm Smaller flame; the pool may stop short of the glass high: a narrower pool commonly throws less
3 · 2 × C1 33.96 cm² each 2.35 cm Two small flames share the width; heat between them to watch low to moderate
4 · 2 × C2 33.96 cm² each 2.35 cm More total heat than 2 × C1; can be as hot as today low, but re-check the red line

Two smaller flames are not automatically cooler: two flames 4.6 cm apart heat the wax between them, and a pair can make a deep pool of its own. That is why 2 × C1 comes before 2 × C2, and why both are judged on the full life. Spacing is a starting point for testing, not a rule; how far apart to set two wicks before comparing sizes is the spacing post; reducing both wicks of a pair whose pool runs deep is the double-wick deep-pool post. A down-rung bought for safety, with its honest money case, is the smaller-wick post.

The pairs and the Steel Wick Holder
The Steel Wick Holder page says "3-hole layout fits single, double, or triple wick setups" and fits jars "up to 9 cm wide"; it does not state the hole spacing, and the Apothecary is about 10 cm across. Check it spans your rim and that its holes match your 4.6 cm before relying on it. Otherwise, stick the tabs at marked points and hold the wicks upright with any straight bar across the rim.

At about 9.3 cm inside, a very rough rule of thumb (about an hour per 2.5 cm of width) puts a full first pool at about 3.7 hours, so run sessions of 3–4 hours for options 2–4 and exactly the printed length for option 1. Wax fill matters too: a 500 g candle in this jar has a long life, so full-life testing here takes weeks, not days.

The staged test: wave 1, then wave 2 only if needed

Pour the cheap questions first. The fallback only gets candles if the likely winner fails.
1
Run the label check on candles you already haveThree candles of today's build, burned only at the session length you would print, through full life. If any runs too hot, too tall or sooty inside that session, option 1 is out.
2
Pour wave 1: six candlesThree on single C2, three on 2 × C1 at 4.6 cm, all at 8%: 240 g of Citrus Lemon and 2,760 g of CSI 464 from one pot, poured at 80–85°C (the jar's "Safe for hot-pour up to 85°C" is the lower limit).
3
Cure, and keep a referenceThe oil page says "Cure soy wax candles for 48-72 hours before burn testing"; many makers wait about a week. Set aside one unburned candle of today's build for the throw comparison.
4
Screen at burn 3Single C2 still 2 mm or more short of the glass with a centred wick in still air: under-wicked; stop it. 2 × C1 short of the edge: pour wave 2. Trim to about 5–6 mm each session.
5
Pour wave 2 only if neededThree on 2 × C2: 120 g of oil and 1,380 g of wax, wicks from the same C2 pack. Otherwise these candles are never poured.
6
Approve on full lifeAll three candles of an option pass the red line to about 1 cm left, and pass the blind throw check. Late-burn heat in a wide jar is where pairs most often fail.

In the best case you pour six new candles (₹3,418.22 of materials) and never pour wave 2. In the worst case nine (₹5,152.12). Either way the wicks are under ₹312.40; the candles are the investment.

Don't buy yet: production wicks for any option before its three candles pass full life. And don't lower the load to calm the flame as a first move: it is the one lever that directly trades away the throw you are trying to keep. Whether an odd fragrance should run a lower load instead of an extra wick is the extra-SKU post; here the load stays at 8%.

Proving the throw survived

If you can't tell the new candle from the old one blind, you kept the throw.

Throw is easy to fool yourself about, in either direction. Make the comparison blind: coded candles, the retained candle of today's build in the line-up, the same closed room of known size, the same time after lighting (once the pool is full), fresh noses, a break between candles. Nose fatigue is real and well established: perceived strength drops with continuous exposure. CSI has no throw measurements for any oil, and the page's "Strong throw" for Citrus Lemon is the page's description, not a number.

Reading the blind check · per option that passed the red line
Our judgement, labelled · only options that already passed flame, soot, carbon and flame-to-glass are sniffed
Blind result Decision Purchase
Testers can't pick it from today's candle Approve: throw kept, power cut Production wicks for that option
Slightly weaker, still acceptable to you Approve the safe option; note it Production wicks; no reformulation
Clearly weaker Try the next option up the list (2 × C1 before 2 × C2) Nothing new: the packs cover it
Today's candle is the only one that throws well enough The red line still wins: sell the safe one, or rework the candle (oil, jar) Ask us before you buy more

That last row is the honest one. If the only build that delivers the throw you want is the one that fails the burn, the answer is not to keep it. It is to change something else, perhaps a different oil or a narrower jar, and re-run the approval. Tell us what you're seeing and we will suggest what to test.

From the winning option to production

The winning option changes your wick order, your label order, and what to do with the old wick.
Production effect · worked example: 100 Apothecary candles a month
Per-candle change vs Cotton Braided × 100 · flat per-wick prices · materials per candle incl. jar · all figures declared
Winning option Materials per candle Wick change a month What to order
Today (Cotton Braided, for reference) ₹571.08 — 105 Cotton Braided a month = ₹1,260.00
1 · labels, same wick ₹571.08 + ₹0.83 +₹82.60 in labels Candle Care Stickers 500: about 5 months of labels
2 · single C2 ₹568.52 ₹256.00 saved C2 by sales: 105 a month
3 · 2 × C1 ₹570.88 ₹20.00 saved 210 C1 a month: two 100-packs + a 20-pack (₹1,298.00)
4 · 2 × C2 ₹577.96 ₹688.00 more 210 C2 a month

Look at the materials column: whichever option wins, the candle costs within a few rupees of today's. The jar (₹212.40), the wax (₹233.40) and the oil (₹113.28) dominate; the wick decision is a safety decision that happens to be almost free. The 2 × C1 month needs ₹1,239.00 of C1 against ₹1,260.00 of Cotton Braided today. Oil stays at 4,000 g a month because the load did not change.

Then the old wick. Cotton Braided left on the shelf is not waste if another product is approved on it; otherwise it becomes test stock. Moving it, using it up or writing it off, and when to order the new wick against current stock and lead time, is the transition-stock post. A reorder point for the new wick is daily use × your lead time + safety stock; CSI does not publish lead times or stock depth, so confirm dispatch on WhatsApp.

Don't buy the big pack: if 2 × C1 wins, the C1 1,000-pack (₹5,900.00) is nearly five months of stock at 210 a month and costs ₹5.90 a wick, the same as the 20-pack. Argued against our own interest: a month plus safety stock is enough; the next order is sized from real production.

Eco Candle Wicks — Thin (C1) and Thick (C2)
Both cut-power arms come from this listing: two C1 for a wide pool with smaller flames, one C2 as the single step down, two C2 as the fallback. The page describes "natural fibers like cotton and paper" and, in the text we captured, states no length, width or jar range. Stock on 1 October 2026: the C1 10-pack is out of stock; every other pack is in. Flat per wick (₹5.90 C1, ₹9.44 C2). Limitation: CSI lists no sized, tabbed wick between C2 and Cotton Braided, so "a little smaller" means C2 or a pair.

Candle Care Stickers Roll
Printed burn guidance for the session length your candles passed at. The listing sells a roll of 500 (1 inch) or 1,000 (1.5 inch); the captured description says nothing about the wording, so check the printed text suits your instruction. Limitation: a label tells the customer how to burn; it does not fix a candle that runs too hard within that session. Argued against our own interest: don't buy the roll until three candles have passed at the session you plan to print.

Apothecary Glass Candle Jar with Dome Lid
The worked example's wide vessel. The page gives "Diameter (outer rim): Approx. 10 cm", "Height (without lid): Approx. 10.8 cm", "Fill capacity: ~500 g - 700 g (2 sizes)" and "Safe for hot-pour up to 85°C", but one set of dimensions for both sizes, so confirm which you hold. With CSI 464 (page: "Pour Temperature 80°C – 90°C") pour at 80–85°C: the lower stated limit governs. The 85°C is a pour figure, not a burn rating. Limitation: it states no internal diameter; ours is a labelled assumption.

fixing · holds the pairs where you put them
Candle Wick Stickers
Pairs only work at the spacing you chose, and a 10 cm rim may be wider than a holder can span: the Steel Wick Holder page says it fits jars "up to 9 cm wide". Stick each tab at a marked point (4.6 cm apart to start) and hold the wicks upright with anything straight across the rim. The 40-sheet page describes 10 mm round stickers. Stock on 1 October 2026: the 100-sheet is out of stock.

Skip for this problem: more Cotton Braided: it is today's wick, and CSI lists nothing tabbed between it and C2. Performance Wooden Wicks (₹590.00 for 10): one listing with no widths, a different construction, and a new system test rather than a smaller step. A lower load: it trades away the throw you are trying to keep.

Diwali is 8 November 2026, 38 days from 1 October 2026. A 500 g candle takes weeks to burn to full life, so a new wick build poured now will not be fully approved for Diwali production. Do not ship the aggressive build in the meantime on the strength of its throw; ask us about the options for this season, and send the approved build for a quote with a GST invoice and a dispatch date.

The CSI principle
Fix the burn first. Then protect the throw.
Throw lives in the pool; trouble lives in the flame. Smaller flames that still fill the pool are the first thing to test, and no smell, however good, buys back a burn fault.

Why trust this guide

CandleMakingSuppliesIndia sells the wicks, labels, oil, jar and wax named here, and does not sell finished candles. This page still tells you not to buy our label roll until a free check passes, that bigger wick packs save nothing per wick, and that we list nothing tabbed between C2 and Cotton Braided.

Every price was verified on CSI's live store on 1 October 2026. Stock was checked per size: the Eco C1 10-pack and the 100-sticker wick-sticker sheet are out of stock on that date and flagged wherever they appear; every other size shown is in stock. Product wording is quoted from the pages; where a page is silent in the text we captured, we say so.

The ranking, the throw-risk column, the 4.6 cm spacing, the screen thresholds, the 0.35 cm wall, the 100-candle month and the 5% allowance are our judgement or worked examples; flame-height, pool-depth and melt-time figures are commonly cited rules of thumb; CSI publishes no wick-performance or throw data. Frequently asked questions

Will a smaller wick reduce hot throw?
It can, if the smaller wick no longer melts the pool to the glass: throw comes mainly from the heated pool. In a wide jar, two smaller wicks are commonly the way to cut flame size while keeping the pool full width. Test it blind against your current candle.
Is a big flame okay if the candle smells strong?
No. A strong smell does not make a tall flame, sustained soot, heavy carbon or a flame close to the glass acceptable. Fix the burn first, then check the throw survived.
Should I use two wicks in a 10 cm candle jar?
Often worth testing. A 10 cm jar is about 67.93 cm² of pool on our wall assumption, or 33.96 cm² each for two wicks. Test 2 × C1 against your current single wick, three candles each, to full life.
Can a candle care label fix an over-wicked candle?
Only if the candle burns calmly for the full session the label states and the problem appears only on longer burns. If it runs too hot within that session, a label just asks customers to manage a fault.
Do two C1 wicks cost more than one Cotton Braided?
No, slightly less at CSI prices: two C1 are ₹11.80 against ₹12.00 for one Cotton Braided, so ₹0.20 saved per candle. Two C2 are ₹18.88, ₹6.88 more.
How do I check if my candle jar is getting too hot?
Watch how close the flame sits to the glass in the final third and look for soot on the glass; use a non-contact thermometer if you have one (CSI does not list one). Never test the glass by touch. Approve only after full burn-down tests.
Keep the throw, cut the power
Eco C1 20 + Eco C2 10 = ₹212.40: two smaller wicks, one rung down, and a fallback pair.
Check the label option on candles you already have, pour three candles per wick option at the same load, screen at burn 3, approve on full life and a blind sniff. Never keep a build that fails the red line. Send us your jar, oil and wick on WhatsApp and we will check the order.

Editorial standards & sources
About this guide: part of CSI's cluster on fragrance changing the wick (5521–5540): a candle with excellent hot throw but an aggressive wick, the red line that throw never justifies a burn fault, a keep-throw, cut-power buy list ranked by cost (printed session and labels, one rung down, two smaller wicks, two C2 as fallback), what each option risks for the pool and the throw, a staged test, a blind throw check, and the production effect of each option.

Customer reviews: The six reviews at the top of this page are genuine, published Judge.me reviews left by CSI customers on the product pages named on each card — Citrus Lemon Fragrance Oil, Eco Candle Wicks, Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 (Flakes Form) For Container Candles. Non-price figures: load is a percentage of total candle weight (500 g at 8% = 40 g oil + 460 g wax; 8.70% of wax weight, inside CSI 464's 10% on either reading). The ~500 g fill is the page's stated capacity; the 9.3 cm inside diameter rests on a labelled 0.35 cm wall assumption; pool area = π r² on the inside radius. Ceilings are as the pages state (CSI 464 up to 10%; Citrus Lemon 6–10% in candles): formulation limits, not regulatory ones. Flame height (about 2.5–5 cm), pool depth (about 0.5–1 cm) and melt time (about an hour per 2.5 cm) are commonly cited rules of thumb. The option ranking, throw-risk judgements, spacing, thresholds, volumes and allowance are editorial judgement and worked examples. Materials exclude labour, freight, packaging and GST. Diwali 8 November 2026 is a calendar fact.
