10:1
wax to fragrance at a 10% load of wax weight · 100 g of oil per kilogram of wax · CSI live pricing, September 2026
Quick answers — read this first
How much fragrance oil for 1 kg of soy wax? 60 g at 6%, 80 g at 8%, 100 g at 10%, 120 g at 12% and 130 g at 13% — all as percentages of wax weight. CSI 464 stops at 10%; Luxury Soy Wax Chunks and CSI 468 go to 13%.

What is the wax to fragrance ratio for soy candles? A 10% load is 10:1 wax to oil. 8% is 12.5:1, 6% is 16.67:1, 12% is 8.33:1 and 13% is 7.69:1. All of them mean grams of oil per gram of wax, not per gram of finished candle.

How much wax does a 500 gm pack of fragrance oil dose? 5 kg of wax at 10%, 6.25 kg at 8% and 8.33 kg at 6% — roughly 25.0, 31.2 and 41.7 candles at 200 g of wax each. British Rose 500 gm is ₹1,593.00.

How much wax goes in a 150 g jar? A stated fill is wax plus oil. Wax = fill ÷ (1 + load): 138.89 g of wax and 11.11 g of oil at 8%, or 136.36 g and 13.64 g at 10%.
The short answer
One line: oil grams = wax grams × load, where the load is a percentage of wax weight. Reverse it with wax = oil ÷ load, and size to a jar with wax = fill ÷ (1 + load).
Read the tables: find your wax weight, read across to your load. Combine rows for anything in between — 350 g is the 300 g row plus half the 100 g row.
Check the column is open to you: the governing load is the lower of the wax page maximum and the oil page range. CSI 464 stops at 10%; most CSI oil pages state 6–10%.
Reverse fragrance load calculator: how much soy wax one 500 gram pack of fragrance oil doses at six, eight, ten, twelve and thirteen per cent of wax weight, with candle counts at two hundred grams of wax each One 500 g pack of oil doses this much waxwax = oil ÷ load · candles at 200 g of wax each6%of wax weight8.3 kg wax41.7 candles at 200 g8%of wax weight6.2 kg wax31.2 candles at 200 g10%of wax weight5.0 kg wax25.0 candles at 200 g12%of wax weight4.2 kg wax20.8 candles at 200 g13%of wax weight3.8 kg wax19.2 candles at 200 gRead it the other way too: oil = wax × load
The calculator read backwards: what one 500 g pack of fragrance oil commits you to in wax and in candles at each load. Deliberately left out: the cost of each route and the jar, both of which are in the tables below.
Straight answer
How do I calculate the fragrance load and the wax to fragrance ratio for a soy candle?
Use one line and then check one limit. The line is oil grams = wax grams × load, with the load taken as a percentage of total wax weight — the convention every CSI product page uses. That makes 1 kg of wax take 60 g at 6%, 80 g at 8%, 100 g at 10%, 120 g at 12% and 130 g at 13%, and it makes the wax-to-fragrance ratio 16.67:1, 12.5:1, 10:1, 8.33:1 and 7.69:1 respectively. The limit is the lower of two published figures: the wax page maximum — Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 up to 10%, Luxury Soy Wax Chunks and Premium Coconut Soy CSI 468 up to 13%, Eco Soy CSI 400 not published — and the oil page range, which on most CSI oils is 6–10% for candles. Sizing to a container needs the formula backwards, because a stated fill capacity is wax plus oil: wax = fill ÷ (1 + load), so a 150 g jar at 8% takes 138.89 g of wax and 11.11 g of oil. Buying to an oil pack needs it backwards again: wax = oil ÷ load, so a 500 gm pack doses 5 kg of wax at 10% and 6.25 kg at 8%. The tables below do all of that for batches from 100 g to 50 kg, for nine real CSI containers, and for four oils from ₹2.83 to ₹7.65 a gram, so that a fifty-candle run at 200 g and 10% resolves to one 10 kg wax pack and one 1 kg oil pack — ₹8,437.00 in materials with wicks.
One line: Oil = wax × load; wax = oil ÷ load; wax from a jar = fill ÷ (1 + load) — and the column you may use is the lower of the wax ceiling and the oil range.
Calculating a batch to order it? Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 runs ₹260.00 for 500 g to ₹5,074.00 for 10 kg, Luxury Soy Wax Chunks ₹599.00 a kilogram, and British Rose Fragrance Oil ₹3,068.00 for 1 kg (₹3.07/g). A 500 g wax pack, a 50 gm oil pack and a Pen Thermometer come to ₹826.40 — enough to prove a load before you buy to one of the big rows below.

How to use this page as a calculator

One line of arithmetic and six tables. No slider to drag, nothing to load, and it works on a phone with one bar of signal in a godown.

The whole calculation is oil grams = wax grams × load, where every load on this page — and on every CSI product page — is a percentage of total wax weight, not of the finished candle. Find your wax weight in the left-hand column of the master table, read across to your load, and that is your oil in grams. The candle then weighs wax plus oil: 200 g of wax at 8% is 16 g of oil and a 216 g candle.

Three tricks cover everything the tables do not list. Add two rows: 350 g is the 300 g row plus the 50 g half of the 100 g row, so at 10% it is 30 + 5 = 35 g. Shift the decimal: every row scales by ten, so the 250 g row at 8% (20 g) gives you 2.5 kg at 8% (200 g) and 25 kg at 8% (2,000 g). Halve a row: 75 g of wax is half the 150 g row. Nothing on this page needs a calculator app.

Before you use a column, check you are allowed to. The load you may pour is the lower of two published figures: the wax page maximum and the oil page range. CSI 464 stops at 10%, so the 12% and 13% columns are not available to it whatever the oil says. Lavender and Dark Vanilla state 6–10% for candles, so those oils stop at 10% whatever the wax says. The ceiling map two sections down does that filtering for you.

1
Decide what your wax weight actually is Not the jar’s fill capacity and not the pack size. If you are working from a container, convert first: wax = fill ÷ (1 + load). A 150 g jar at 8% is 138.89 g of wax, not 150 g.
2
Find the governing load Take the lower of the wax page maximum and the oil page range, then step one point below it for anything that will be couriered through an Indian summer.
3
Read the master table Your wax row, your load column, oil in grams. Combine rows for anything in between.
4
Weigh the oil into the melt, once Tare the cup, pour to the figure, add at the temperature the wax page states — 80–90°C with a slow two-minute stir on the Luxury Soy Wax Chunks page — and stir the stated time (add-temperature guide).
5
Write both weights on the batch card “10,000 g wax, 1,000 g oil” is auditable. “10%” is a memory that drifts by the third batch.

Master table: oil grams for any wax batch from 100 g to 50 kg

The only table most makers ever need, and the one they keep re-deriving at eleven at night.

Read down to your wax weight, across to your load. Figures are grams of fragrance oil. The two right-hand columns are marked because they are out of reach for several CSI grades and for most CSI oils — check the ceiling map before you use them.

50 kg 3,000 g 4,000 g 5,000 g 6,000 g 6,500 g

▲ The 12% and 13% columns are available only where both the wax page and the oil page allow them: Luxury Soy Wax Chunks and Premium Coconut Soy CSI 468 state up to 13%, while CSI 464 stops at 10% and Eco Soy CSI 400 publishes no ceiling at all. On the oil side, most CSI pages quote 6–10% for candles; Japanese Cherry Blossom gives 6–13% and Cinnamon Vanilla gives up to 13%.

Note the top of the table as well as the bottom. CSI sells container soy in 500 g, 1 kg, 5 kg and 10 kg packs; the 25 kg and 50 kg rows are there because production batches are planned in those quantities, not because a single pack exists at that size. For more than 10 kg of one grade in a single consignment, ask on WhatsApp for bulk pricing rather than adding ten packs to a basket — one verified buyer above asks exactly that about bulk discounts, and it is a WhatsApp conversation rather than a checkout one.

Reading the row for your jar’s fill capacity instead of your wax weight. A stated fill is the poured candle — wax plus oil. Pour 150 g of wax into a 150 g jar, add the 12 g the table gives you, and you have 162 g of candle and no headspace, which is where rim leaks and lid stains begin. Convert first: wax = fill ÷ (1 + load).

Which columns each CSI soy grade can actually use

A calculator that lets you pour 13% into a wax rated to 10% is not a calculator, it is a trap.
Ceiling map
Stated maximum by grade, the columns it unlocks, and what 1 kg of that wax takes
Grade Stated maximum Columns you may use Oil for 1 kg of wax at its maximum 1 kg price
Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 Up to 10% of wax weight 6% · 8% · 10% 100 g ₹507.40
Luxury Soy Wax Chunks Up to 13%; 8% start, 10% recommended 6% · 8% · 10% · 12% · 13% 130 g ₹599.00
Premium Coconut Soy CSI 468 Up to 13% of wax weight 6% · 8% · 10% · 12% · 13% 130 g ₹650.00
Eco Soy CSI 400 Not published — ask on WhatsApp Work at 6–8% until you have an answer Unknown ₹399.00
Natural Soy Pearl Wax Not published — ask on WhatsApp Work at 6–8% until you have an answer Unknown ₹450.00

Then apply the oil’s own page as a second filter. Where the two disagree the lower figure governs, every time. A 13% pour needs a wax rated above 12% and an oil page that allows it: Japanese Cherry Blossom at 6–13% and Cinnamon Vanilla at up to 13% are the sort of pages that open that column. British Rose publishes a flashpoint of 192°C and 0% vanillin but no candle percentage, so on that oil the wax page is your only stated limit — and the honest answer is that 8–10% is where the rest of this catalogue sits.

Priced above: Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 1 kg ₹507.40 (500 g ₹260.00, 5 kg ₹2,537.00, 10 kg ₹5,074.00); Luxury Soy Wax Chunks 1 kg ₹599.00 (500 g ₹299.00, 5 kg ₹2,995.00, 10 kg ₹5,999.00); Premium Coconut Soy CSI 468 1 kg ₹650.00 (500 g ₹325.00, 5 kg ₹3,185.00, 10 kg ₹6,370.00); Eco Soy CSI 400 1 kg ₹399.00 (5 kg ₹1,996.00); Natural Soy Pearl Wax 1 kg ₹450.00.
ONE POINT OF MARGIN
Pour a point below the governing ceiling for anything that ships in summer. On a 200 g candle with British Rose at 1 kg pricing, dropping from 10% to 8% gives back ₹12.27 a candle and ₹613.60 across fifty — and buys you the tolerance to absorb a scale that reads half a gram high and a jar filled slightly full.

Wax to fragrance ratio: the same numbers, said the other way

Ten to one is easier to hold in your head than ten per cent is, and it is the same candle.

A load is a ratio. Ten per cent of wax weight means ten parts wax to one part oil — 10:1. Eight per cent is 12.5:1. Six per cent is 16.67:1. Working in ratios is useful at the bench because it scales without arithmetic: at 10:1, every 100 g of wax takes 10 g of oil and every kilogram takes 100 g, and you can check a dose by eye before you stir it in.

Ratio table
Every load expressed four ways
Load (% of wax) Wax : oil Oil per 100 g of wax Oil per 1 kg of wax Same candle as % of finished weight
6% 16.67:1 6 g 60 g 5.66%
8% 12.50:1 8 g 80 g 7.41%
10% 10.00:1 10 g 100 g 9.09%
12% 8.33:1 12 g 120 g 10.71%
13% 7.69:1 13 g 130 g 11.50%

The last column is the one to keep an eye on. A recipe that says "10%" without saying what the percentage is of is ambiguous, and the two readings are not interchangeable near a ceiling: 10% of the finished candle is 11.11% of wax weight, which is over the stated maximum for CSI 464. When a figure arrives without its convention attached, take the smaller oil weight.

The CSI principle
A ratio is a decision. A percentage is a note about a decision. Write the grams and you have both.
At 12.5:1, a 5 kg melt takes 400 g of oil — one pack, weighed once. At "8%", it takes whatever fifty separate jar-level weighings happen to add up to.

Jar-fill quick table: from a container’s capacity to wax and oil

Every container on the CSI site states what it holds. None of them state how much of that is wax.

Stated fill capacities are poured weights. To get from one to a shopping list, run the formula backwards: wax = fill ÷ (1 + load) and oil = fill − wax. The table below does it for real CSI containers at 8% and at 10%, with the oil cost at British Rose 1 kg pricing (₹3.07/g).

Priced above: Clear Glass Votive Jar ₹31.86 each in the pack of 10; Tin Containers ₹70.80 each at 85 gram and ₹96.76 each at 135 gram, both in packs of 12; Shot Glass Jar ₹288.00 for the pack; Clear Glass Jar with Golden Lid ₹94.40 each in the pack of 10 (₹944.00); Ceramic Jar ₹129.80; Apothecary Jar ₹212.40 (500 gm) and ₹250.00 (700 gm); Clip-Top Airtight Container ₹229.00; Borosilicate Jar ₹200.00. Fill capacities are the figures stated on each product page. At 8% a 150 g jar takes ₹70.47 of CSI 464 and ₹34.09 of British Rose; at 10%, ₹41.84 of oil.

Two practical notes. Leave a few grams of headspace rather than pouring to the stated capacity — the number is what the container holds, not a target. And the big containers change the economics of a mistake: an Apothecary or Borosilicate jar is four to five times the wax and oil of a votive, so prove a load in the small format and scale it up, never the other way round (choosing glass jars).

What each load costs, by oil

The step from 8% to 10% is two grams and a few rupees. The step from a saleable candle to a seeping one is the same two grams.

Oil is the line that moves when you change a load; the wax, wick and jar do not. Below is the cost of the oil alone in a 200 g wax pour at each load, for four CSI oils spanning the catalogue — Citrus Lemon at ₹2.83 a gram, British Rose at ₹3.07, Lavender at ₹5.22 and Dark Vanilla at ₹7.65, all at 1 kg pricing.

Wax, wick and jar are unchanged by the load: 200 g of CSI 464 is ₹101.48 and an Eco C1 wick is ₹5.90.

Read the two tables together before you decide that a higher load is expensive. On British Rose the whole distance from 6% to 13% is a few rupees a candle; on Dark Vanilla the same distance is several times that, because the oil is more than twice the price per gram. The load decision is worth making on performance and stability, and the money only starts to matter at batch scale and on the dearer oils (can too much fragrance oil make a candle smell weaker).

Buying to the 13% column because it is the biggest number on the page. Above the governing ceiling the extra oil is not held by the wax, and what it does next is bead, seep and stain a label rather than throw harder (why a candle can still smell weak at 10%). The tables are a calculator, not a recommendation: the columns you may use come from the ceiling map, and the column you should use comes from a cured burn test.
Buying to a row? Fifty 200 g candles at 10% is exactly one 10 kg pack of Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 (₹5,074.00), one 1 kg pack of British Rose Fragrance Oil (₹3,068.00) and fifty Eco Candle Wicks at ₹5.90 each (₹295.00) — ₹8,437.00 in materials before jars. The reverse calculator: how much wax a pack of oil doses

Most makers buy the oil first. This is the table that tells you what you have just committed to.

Turn the formula around: wax = oil ÷ load. A 500 gm pack of oil at 10% doses 5 kg of wax; at 8% it doses 6.25 kg; at 6%, 8.33 kg. Candle counts assume 200 g of wax a candle, so divide the wax figure by five to get candles per kilogram if you pour a different size.

This is the table that prevents the two classic ordering mistakes. The first is buying a 50 gm pack to test a fragrance and discovering it only doses 0.5 kg of wax at 10% — about 2.5 test candles at 200 g, which is a three-jar round with a little spare and no production run. The second is buying 1 kg of an oil you have not cured yet: at 10% that commits you to 10.0 kg of wax and 50.0 candles of one scent.

Work the other way for festive planning. Five hundred Diwali candles at 200 g of wax and 8% is 100 kg of wax and 8 kg of oil; at 10% it is 10 kg of oil. Diwali 2026 falls on 8 November 2026, so a batch poured by mid-October clears a 14–21 day cure in time — which means the oil order has to be settled well before the pour, not during it (fragrance oil for 500 Diwali candles and how much a candle business needs).

Buy the oil to the batch, not the batch to the oil. One pack of the wrong size decides a whole season’s range.

The bench card, rounding rules and a worked check

Copy six lines onto the back of an envelope and you will never open this page in a hurry again.

The card. Oil = wax × load. Wax = oil ÷ load. Wax from a jar = fill ÷ (1 + load). Poured weight = wax + oil. 10% is 10:1; 8% is 12.5:1. Governing load is the lower of the wax page and the oil page. That is the entire calculator, and it fits on a luggage tag tied to the pitcher.

Rounding. Round the oil down and the wax up, and round once at the level of the melt rather than jar by jar. Scaling a rounded per-jar figure is how a 10% recipe becomes a 10.5% recipe by the third batch — and 10.5% is over the stated maximum for CSI 464, which is the sort of drift nobody notices until a jar starts beading.

The check. Before the oil goes in, do the sum the other way: divide the oil you have weighed by the wax in the pot and confirm it matches the column you meant to read. Eight hundred grams of oil in 10 kg of wax is 0.08, which is 8%. If the answer is not the number you started from, something went in twice — and that is far cheaper to find in the pot than in a cured jar three weeks later.

Worked check
Three batches, calculated forwards and verified backwards
Batch Wax Load Oil from the table Check: oil ÷ wax Poured weight
Three-jar test round 600 g 8% 48 g 48 ÷ 600 = 0.08 648 g
One 5 kg pack 5 kg 10% 500 g 500 ÷ 5,000 = 0.10 5.5 kg
Fifty 200 g candles 10 kg 10% 1,000 g (₹3,068.00 of British Rose) 1,000 ÷ 10,000 = 0.10 11 kg

One last honest note about what a page like this cannot do. The tables give you a legitimate dose, not the right one. Which column suits a particular oil, jar and room is decided by a cured burn test — 48 hours minimum on the Luxury Soy Wax Chunks page, ideally one to two weeks, with 14–21 days standard practice for soy — and no table has ever smelled a candle (making candles smell strong without exceeding the safe fragrance load).

Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA sells both the wax and the oil in these tables, so the commercially convenient version of this page would put the 13% column first. It does not. The ceiling map marks the columns most grades and most oils cannot use, the tip argues for a point of margin below the governing ceiling, and the reverse table exists mainly to stop makers committing to a kilogram of an oil they have not yet cured and burned.

Every price is from live CSI stock in September 2026 and the linked product pages are authoritative. Ceilings are quoted from those pages: Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 up to 10% of total wax weight, Luxury Soy Wax Chunks and Premium Coconut Soy CSI 468 up to 13% with the Chunks page giving 8% as a start and 10% as its recommendation; Eco Soy CSI 400 and Natural Soy Pearl Wax do not publish fragrance ceilings, so this page says so rather than filling the gap. Oil ranges come from the individual oil pages. Container fill capacities are the figures stated on each container page. The tables are arithmetic from those published figures, not test data.

Frequently asked questions

How much fragrance oil do I need for 500 g of soy wax?
30 g at 6%, 40 g at 8%, 50 g at 10%, 60 g at 12% and 65 g at 13% of wax weight. On CSI 464 the top figure available is 50 g; on Luxury Soy Wax Chunks and CSI 468 65 g is inside the wax ceiling, but only if the oil page also allows 13%.
Is a 10% fragrance load the same as a 10:1 ratio?
Yes, when the percentage is of wax weight: ten parts wax to one part oil, or 100 g of oil per kilogram of wax. It is not the same as 10% of the finished candle, which works out at 11.11% of wax weight and 9:1 — over the stated maximum for CSI 464.
What is the maximum fragrance load for soy wax?
It depends on the grade and then on the oil. CSI publishes up to 10% for Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 and up to 13% for Luxury Soy Wax Chunks and Premium Coconut Soy CSI 468, all as percentages of total wax weight. Eco Soy CSI 400 does not publish a figure — ask on WhatsApp. Most CSI oil pages state 6–10% for candles, and where the two differ the lower one governs.
How do I calculate fragrance oil for a batch size that is not in the table?
Add or halve rows. 350 g is the 300 g row plus half the 100 g row. 750 g is its own row; 1.5 kg is the 1 kg row plus the 500 g row. And every row scales by ten, so the 250 g row also serves 2.5 kg and 25 kg — move the decimal point in the answer by the same number of places.
How many candles will 1 kg of soy wax and 100 g of oil make?
At 200 g of wax a candle, 1 kg of wax makes five candles and the 10% dose is 100 g of oil — 20 g a candle. Sized to a 150 g jar instead, the wax per jar is 136.36 g at 10%, so 1 kg makes about 7.3 jars. Fill capacity is wax plus oil, which is why the jar count is lower than dividing by 150 suggests.
Do these tables work for coconut soy and for chunks as well as flakes?
The arithmetic is identical for every wax — only the ceiling and the working temperatures change. Premium Coconut Soy CSI 468 states up to 13%, a melting point of 50–53°C and a pour temperature of 58–60°C; Luxury Soy Wax Chunks states up to 13% with fragrance added at 80–90°C and a slow two-minute stir. Use the same rows, check a different ceiling.
