Quick answers — read this first
What do I check first? The thermometer, because it is the commonest cause and the fastest to fix. If the melt is below your wax's stated band — "80-90°C" on Luxury Soy Wax Chunks — reheat into it before anything else.

Second? Your dose against the wax's stated ceiling: up to 13% on Chunks and CSI 468, up to 10% on CSI 464. Above the ceiling, the surplus has nowhere to go and no amount of effort will place it.

Then? The stir itself — the stated two minutes, including the wall and the base — then water, then whether the bottle in your hand is actually a candle fragrance oil rather than a diffuser base or an essential oil.

Is water really a cause? Yes, and it is the only one stirring cannot touch. At soy working temperatures water does not boil, so it gives you no warning — it just clouds the wax and stays.
The short answer
Check in cost order, not in suspicion order: temperature, dose, stir, water, product. The first three are free to correct while the wax is liquid; the fourth means starting again; the fifth means stopping.
One of these causes is invisible from the jug: if your dose is over the wax's stated ceiling, the melt can look perfectly uniform and still fail three days later. Read your recipe card, not just the wax.
Your wax may not state a ceiling at all: Eco Soy CSI 400 publishes an add temperature and a stir time but no maximum load. In that case take the ceiling from the oil page — most CSI oils state "Up to 10% for soy wax".

The order is deliberate and it is an order of cost, not of likelihood — though as it happens the cheapest cause is also the commonest. Work down the list and you never spend more than the fault requires; work up it, by suspecting the oil first, and you will replace a ₹4,720-per-kilogram bottle to solve a problem a thermometer would have settled.
Straight answer
Why will my fragrance oil not mix into the candle wax?
Five causes account for almost all of it, and they are worth checking in this order because that is the order of what a correction costs. One: the melt is below the temperature your wax page states. Luxury Soy Wax Chunks states "Recommended fragrance add temp 80-90°C" and Eco Soy CSI 400 states 85°C within "80 to 90 degrees"; below the band the wax is more viscous and closer to setting, so the oil disperses rather than dissolving. Reheating into the band costs nothing. Two: the dose is above what the wax states it holds — up to 13% on Chunks and CSI 468, up to 10% on CSI 464. A surplus above the ceiling cannot be placed by effort; the correction is more wax, not more stirring. Three: the stir stopped early or never reached the wall and base, where the coolest wax in the jug clings — the one stated duration in the CSI range is Eco Soy CSI 400's "stir gently for 2 minutes". Four: water. A damp jug, a washed spatula that was not dried, condensation off a lid, or a double boiler that spat — and at soy working temperatures water does not boil, so it gives you no warning at all. Water is the one cause stirring cannot touch and the one that ends the batch. Five: the bottle is not a candle fragrance oil — a reed or ultrasonic diffuser base, a room spray base or an essential oil is a different product for a different medium. Three of those five are free to correct while the wax is liquid, which is why this page is written for the jug rather than for the jar. Once it is poured you are reading separation and oil sitting on top instead.
One line: check the thermometer, then the recipe card, then finish the stir, then look for water — and only then start suspecting the bottle.
Two of the five causes are instrument problems, and both instruments cost the same. The five causes, in checking order

Diagnose in the order of what a fix costs, not in the order of what feels most likely. The cheapest cause is also the commonest, which is a gift you should take.

Each row below is a cause, what it looks like in the jug, the check that confirms it in seconds, and the correction. Two of the checks need an instrument you should own anyway; three need nothing but attention.

Cause 2 is the one that breaks the pattern, and it is worth saying plainly: an over-ceiling load does not have to look wrong in the jug. Hot wax will carry more oil than it can hold once it sets, so a melt at 14% on a wax rated to 13% can look immaculate and then produce surface oil days later. When your wax states no ceiling at all
Eco Soy CSI 400 publishes an add temperature and a stir time but no maximum fragrance load, and neither does Natural Soy Pearl Wax or Soy Pillar Wax. Do not borrow 13% from Chunks. Take the ceiling from the oil page insteadVerbena states "Up to 10% for soy wax", Ylang Ylang Flower the same — and treat the lower of the two published figures as your working limit. The ninety-second bench triage

This is the sequence to run with the jug still in your hand. It is ordered so that nothing you do early forecloses an option later, and the whole thing fits inside the time a covered melt will stay in its band.

Read the temperature before you do anything else — 10 secondsMid-depth, probe clear of the base and wall, after one slow pass to even the melt out. Compare it against the figure printed on your wax's page, not against a number you remember. If you are under the band, stop diagnosing and reheat: every other check is unreliable in a melt that is out of specification.

Read your own recipe card — 15 secondsGrams of oil, grams of wax, and the percentage those two make. Then the wax page's stated ceiling. This is the only check you cannot do by looking at the melt, and it is the only cause on the list that punishes you later rather than now. If you are over, add wax; if you have no wax left, note it on the sheet and treat the batch as a test rather than stock.

Finish the stir properly — 40 secondsSlow folds through the full depth, then the circumference and the base corners with a flexible blade. Most melts that "will not mix" have simply not been stirred where the problem is. Then lift the tool and hold it up: a thin continuous film draining evenly is uniform; beads breaking away are not. The teaspoon test — 20 seconds, then waitTip a teaspoon of the blend onto a cold white tile or a saucer and let it set while you keep the jug warm. A set sample is far more legible than a hot one: an even, matt, opaque disc is a good sign; a disc with glossy patches, a greasy rim or droplets sitting on it is not. This is the cheapest sample you will ever take and it costs a teaspoon.

Decide out loud: pour, correct, or stopThree outcomes and no fourth. Pour if the tool film and the teaspoon both read clean. Correct — reheat, add wax, finish the stir — if one of causes 1 to 3 is confirmed, then re-run step 4. Stop if you suspect water or the wrong product, because both of those get worse with every further minute of heat and effort. Write down which one you chose and why; the note is what stops the next batch repeating it.
Do not fix a mixing problem with a heat gun. A Hot Air Gun at ₹531 — its page states "it can reach at about 200°c/390°f within a few seconds" — is a genuinely useful tool for smoothing a set surface, and CSI customer Niharika S writes "Been using this for the past 3 years, works perfectly well." What it does not do is change what is inside the candle. Melting the top of a jar redistributes the top of a jar; the undissolved oil is still undissolved, and you have now added a second heat exposure to the surface where the most volatile material sits. Use it for appearance, never as a diagnosis or a repair.

Water: the cause stirring cannot touch

Water deserves its own section because every other cause on this page is a matter of degree and this one is binary. A melt that is five degrees too cool is a melt you can rescue. A melt with water in it is finished, and the reason it catches people is that it does not announce itself.

Here is the part that surprises makers: at soy working temperatures water does not boil. Water boils at around 100°C, and the bands CSI publishes for its soy waxes top out at 90°C — so the dramatic spitting and crackling people expect as a warning does not happen. The water simply sits there as fine droplets, refusing to combine with either the wax or the oil, clouding the melt and making it look like an incorporation problem you could stir out. You cannot. Wax and oil will dissolve into one another; neither will dissolve water.

Two practical consequences. First, never add water-based anything to wax — no water-based colourant, no food colouring, no fragrance sold for a water-based application. Second, if you are unlucky enough to have water in a batch, discard it rather than re-melting it; re-melting drives some water off but you cannot know how much, and a candle with water trapped near the wick is a candle with an unpredictable burn. On a ten-jar batch that is a real but survivable loss, which the arithmetic below puts a number on.

The CSI principle
A melt that will not take the oil is not asking for more effort. It is telling you that one of the three numbers on your card is wrong, and effort is the only response that cannot fix any of them.
Temperature, dose, duration. Every maker who has ever stirred harder for four minutes was answering a question about one of those three with the one variable that does not appear in any of them.

When the bottle is not a candle oil

This is cause five, and it is rarer than the others but absolute. CSI sells several categories of aromatic liquid, and they are not interchangeable even where the scent name is identical. A reed or ultrasonic diffuser base is formulated to travel up a reed or aerosolise in a device. A room and linen spray base is formulated to be sprayed and to dry. An essential oil is a different material entirely, with its own volatility and its own cost per gram. None of them is a candle fragrance oil, and the failure mode is not always dramatic — sometimes it mixes and then behaves badly in the burn, which is worse than refusing outright.

The check is free and takes ten seconds: read the stated applications on the product page. CSI's candle fragrance oil pages list what the oil is for, and most name candles first — "Candles · Wax Melts · Reed Diffusers · Room Sprays · Body Products" is a typical line, with a stated soy load and cure time alongside it. If the page does not name candles, do not assume. Dye is not a cause, and it is worth clearing it off the list. Liquid candle dye is oil-compatible and needs very little: CSI customer Ashwini writes of the brown that "It mixes very well and give you various shades like light to dark depending upon the amount of dye you add." If your fragrance will not incorporate, the dye is almost never why — but do add dye and fragrance in separate steps while you are diagnosing, so an uneven colour and an uneven scent point at different things. Testing a new oil before you commit a batch costs less than the batch does: Verbena from ₹106.20 for 15 gm, Ylang Ylang Flower from ₹106.20, both stating "Up to 10% for soy wax" and 0% vanillin. The spread is the whole argument for triaging in the jug. ₹0 against ₹118.57 against ₹1,548.36 — three orders of magnitude between the cheapest correction and the worst outcome, separated only by when you noticed. And the jar figure deserves one honesty note: the White Matte Glass Jar page states a "fill weight of 200 ml" and a "Height 8 cm width 7 cm", not a weight in grams. Millilitres are volume and your load is weight, so weigh one filled jar before you plan a batch around it rather than assuming 200 ml of soy is 200 g. Two oils that publish the ceiling your wax may not

Both chosen for the same reason: their pages state a soy load, a paraffin load, a cure time, a flash point and a vanillin figure, which is exactly the set you need when the wax page leaves the ceiling blank. Each table lists every size with its per-kilogram price. At 16 g of oil per 200 g candle at 8%, a 100 gm bottle covers six candles, a 500 gm bottle thirty-one and a 1 kg bottle sixty-two.

A single-note oil with a completely specified page, which is what you want when you are testing your own process rather than the oil. It states "Flashpoint: 200°C", "Vanillin Content: 0% (No discoloration risk)", a load of "Up to 10% for soy wax" and "Up to 6% for paraffin wax", and a cure of "48–72 hours for soy wax". Stated main aroma: "Crisp lemony verbena with herbal undertones", strength "Strong in both cold and hot throw". Wick guidance is "Cotton, Eco wicks or wooden wicks". The counterpart, and useful if you want to run the same protocol on a richer floral. The page states "Flashpoint: 193°C", "Vanillin Content: 0% (No discoloration risk)", "Up to 10% for soy wax" and "Up to 6% for paraffin wax", a cure of "48–72 hours for soy wax", a main aroma of "Sweet, rich, and floral with creamy undertones" and a strength of "Moderate to strong". Worth pouring on a page about incorporation because it is the one CSI wax whose page gives you the complete instruction rather than a temperature alone: "add your fragrance or essential oils at 85°C (185°F), stir gently for 2 minutes, and pour directly." It also states "Fragrance Add Temperature 80 to 90 degrees" and a "Melt Point 100°F (37.8°C)". What it does not state is a maximum fragrance load — so pair it with an oil that publishes one and work to that figure. At ₹399 per kilogram, and ₹1,996 for 5 kg — effectively the same rate at ₹399.20 — it is also the cheapest kilo of container soy in the CSI range. Why trust this guide

Should I just stir for longer if it will not combine?
Finish the stated duration first — Eco Soy CSI 400 states "stir gently for 2 minutes" — including the wall and base, because most melts that "will not mix" have not been stirred where the problem is. Past uniformity, extra minutes do nothing useful: they cool the melt and beat in air, and a cooler melt holds less in solution. The melt looked fine but the jars have oil on top. What happened?
Then the fault was invisible in the jug, which narrows it to two candidates: a dose above the wax's stated ceiling, or oil that was dispersed rather than dissolved because the melt was under the stated band. Both put oil at the surface days later. Distinguish them with your recipe card first — that is free — and then by uniformity: an over-ceiling load affects every jar equally.
