100 candles · 6% vs 8% fragrance load
At 6% a 200 g candle holds 12 g of oil; at 8% it holds 16 g. On 100 candles that is 400 g more oil and 400 g less wax — and after allowances and real bottle sizes, a ₹2,010.00 difference in this Japanese Cherry Blossom order.
₹2,010.00
extra CSI spend for 8% over 6% on 100 × 200 g candles · oil up ₹2,270.00, wax down ₹260.00 · CSI live pricing, October 2026
Quick answers — read this first
How much oil at 6%? 1,200 g net for 100 × 200 g; 1,360.8 g with 4 tests, 3% rejects and 5% pour loss. Buy 1 × 1 kg + 4 × 100 g.

How much at 8%? 1,600 g net; 1,814.4 g with the same allowances. Buy 1 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g + 3 × 100 g + 1 × 50 g.

What is the ₹ difference? Oil +₹2,270.00, wax −₹260.00: +₹2,010.00 on the full CSI order, or ₹20.10 a saleable candle, in Japanese Cherry Blossom.

Which load should I buy? Neither until six test candles decide it. The load-decision kit costs ₹2,093.40; buy wax and jars now, oil after.
The short answer
Answer: 100 candles × 200 g need 1,200 g of oil at 6% and 1,600 g at 8% — 8% is a third more oil, not 2% more. With allowances: 1,360.8 g vs 1,814.4 g.
Why: Load is a share of the finished candle, so extra oil replaces wax gram for gram. The 6% order needs 400 g more wax, which offsets part of the oil saving.
Method: Net → 4 tests → ÷ (1 − 3%) rejects → × 1.05 pour loss on wax and oil → breakage on jars → round to in-stock packs. Copy the full template.

Only the rupees differ, because oil costs about ten times more per gram.
Net oil, oil with allowances and oil actually bought at each load, to scale. The extra oil at 8% is partly offset by 453.6 g less wax, so the net CSI difference is ₹2,010.00. The 200 g candle and the allowances are labelled working assumptions.
Straight answer
I need 100 candles at 6% fragrance load — how much fragrance oil will I need compared with producing the same candles at 8%?
At 6% you need 1,200 g of fragrance oil for 100 × 200 g candles; at 8% you need 1,600 g — 400 g, or one third, more. That is before allowances. Add 4 test candles, a 3% reject allowance and 5% pour loss (labelled working assumptions) and the order becomes 1,360.8 g against 1,814.4 g. Because load is a share of the finished candle, the 6% candles also need 400 g more wax. Rounded to real, in-stock CSI packs in Japanese Cherry Blossom, the oil is 1 × 1 kg + 4 × 100 g (₹6,842.00) against 1 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g + 3 × 100 g + 1 × 50 g (₹9,112.00), and CSI 464 wax is ₹10,915.40 against ₹10,655.40. With jars, wicks and stickers identical, the whole CSI order is ₹26,907.40 at 6% and ₹28,917.40 at 8% — a ₹2,010.00 difference. Decide the load on six test candles before buying the oil.
One line: 8% is a third more oil than 6%, partly paid back in wax; test both before you buy either.
For 100 candles of 200 g, the fragrance oil is 1,200 g at 6% against 1,600 g at 8% before allowances, and 1,360.8 g against 1,814.4 g once 4 test candles, a 3% reject allowance and 5% pour loss are added. In Japanese Cherry Blossom that is 1 × 1 kg + 4 × 100 g (₹6,842.00) against 1 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g + 3 × 100 g + 1 × 50 g (₹9,112.00) — ₹2,270.00 more oil at 8%, partly paid back by ₹260.00 less CSI 464 wax.

The two formulas side by side

Two points of load sound small. On 100 candles they are 400 grams of fragrance oil — and 400 grams less wax.

Your title gives the candle count and the two loads but not the candle weight, so this page uses 200 g as a labelled working figure — CSI's default candle throughout this series. If yours is different, every number below scales in proportion. Fragrance load is a share of the finished candle, the convention CSI uses on every page: oil = candle weight × load, wax = candle weight − oil. At 6% a 200 g candle holds 12 g of oil and 188 g of wax; at 8% it holds 16 g of oil and 184 g of wax. The candle weighs the same either way. The difference moves from one ingredient to the other.

100 candles × 200 g · CSI convention: load = share of finished weight · before any allowance
Net requirement at 6% and at 8%
Line 6% load 8% load Difference (8% − 6%)
Oil per candle 12 g 16 g +4 g
Wax per candle 188 g 184 g −4 g
Oil for 100 candles 1,200 g 1,600 g +400 g
Wax for 100 candles 18,800 g 18,400 g −400 g
Oil as a share of the extra — — 8% uses 33.3% more oil than 6%
Finished candle weight 20,000 g 20,000 g unchanged

The one line people remember is the third: 8% needs a third more fragrance oil than 6% — 1,600 g against 1,200 g, which is 33.3% more, not "2% more". The two-point gap is measured on the candle; on the oil bottle it is a 33% jump. The line people forget is the fourth: the 6% candle needs 400 g more wax for the same 100 candles. A lower load is not a smaller order. It is a cheaper ingredient doing more of the work.

The common slip: "100 candles × 200 g = 20 kg of wax, plus the oil." That buys 20,000 g of wax for candles that can only hold 18,400 g at 8% or 18,800 g at 6%, and puts the oil on top, so the batch comes out heavier than the jars allow. Fix: split the finished weight first — the 200 g wax-weight post walks through why a 200 g jar never takes 200 g of wax once fragrance is in it.
Is your 6% on the wax or on the candle?
Some recipe cards add oil as a percentage of the wax: 80 g into 1 kg of wax, called "8%". That is a true load of 7.41% of the finished candle. To hit a true 8% on 1 kg of wax you need 86.96 g of oil (oil = wax × L ÷ (1 − L)). This page uses the finished-weight convention throughout; if your card uses the other one, your oil figures will be slightly lower than the tables here.

The allowance stack, applied once at each load

The net requirement is what the candles hold. What you buy is more, because some candles are poured to test, some come out wrong, and some wax and oil stay in the jug. This series applies those allowances in one fixed order so nothing is counted twice: test candles first as whole candles, then a reject allowance on the production candles, then pour loss on wax and oil only, then breakage on glass only, and only then rounding to real packs. The figures below — 4 test candles, 3% rejects, 5% pour loss, 2% glass breakage and 4 spare wicks — are labelled working assumptions. Replace them with your own records as soon as you have them.

Load changes only two lines in that stack: wax and oil. Jars, wicks and stickers are identical at 6% and 8%, because a candle is still one jar and one wick whatever is in it. That matters for planning: the glass, the wicks and the wax can all be bought before you have decided the load, and the oil is the only material whose quantity depends on the decision. The 105-or-110 post argues the size of each allowance; here they are held constant so that the only thing moving is the load.

Rounding each load to real CSI oil and wax packs

The calculator gives grams. CSI sells bottles. The ₹ difference only exists once you round.

Japanese Cherry Blossom Fragrance Oil is listed in all five sizes and all are in stock on the 4 October 2026 re-check: 15 g ₹104.00, 50 g ₹270.00, 100 g ₹500.00, 500 g ₹2,500.00 and 1 kg ₹4,842.00. Per gram that is ₹6.93, ₹5.40, ₹5.00, ₹5.00 and ₹4.84. So this oil has one real step down at 50 g, a flat stretch from 100 g to 500 g, and a small saving at 1 kg. Rounding below uses the cheapest combination of 50 g and larger bottles; the 15 g is kept for sampling.

Difference 8% − 6% +453.6 g +450 g +₹2,270.00

The third row is worth a sentence. Swapping the 50 g bottle for a 15 g one gives 1,815 g for ₹8,946.00 — ₹166.00 cheaper — but it leaves only 0.6 g above the allowance. That is a bet that your pour loss really is 5% or less. If you have weighed your loss on a few batches and it is lower, take the tighter option; if this is your first 100, the 50 g bottle is cheap insurance.

Wax rounds the other way. Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 is ₹507.40 a kilo at 1 kg, 5 kg and 10 kg (₹260.00 for 500 g, which is ₹520.00 a kilo), so there is no bulk saving to chase — only the number of bags. At 6% the stack asks for 21,319.2 g: 2 × 10 kg + 1 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g = 21,500 g for ₹10,915.40, leaving 180.8 g. At 8% it asks for 20,865.6 g: 2 × 10 kg + 1 × 1 kg = 21,000 g for ₹10,655.40, leaving 134.4 g. The lower load needs one more 500 g bag, ₹260.00 more wax.

The CSI principle
Load moves grams from wax to oil. The rupees move ten times as far.
Every 4 g of oil that replaces 4 g of wax in a 200 g candle costs about ₹19.37 in Japanese Cherry Blossom and saves about ₹2.03 in CSI 464. Price the oil decision, not the wax.

The full ₹ difference on one shopping list

Here are both orders in full, priced with listed, in-stock CSI packs. Jars are White Matte Glass Jar — CSI does not publish its fill weight, so weigh a test pour and confirm that your 200 g sits where you want it before ordering 115. Wicks are Eco Candle Wicks Thin C1 as the example wick (CSI publishes no wick size per jar diameter; the size must pass your burn test), with one wick sticker per wick.

So the honest answer to "how much more does 8% cost than 6% on 100 candles" is ₹2,010.00 on this order, or ₹20.10 a saleable candle — not the ₹2,270.00 the oil line alone suggests, because the 6% order needs an extra 500 g bag of wax. Leave out allowances and pack rounding and the per-candle difference at pack rates is ₹17.34 (4 g more oil at ₹4.84/g minus 4 g less wax at ₹0.51/g). The rounded figure is a little different because bottles and bags come in steps.

The same question with ten other CSI oils

The gap between 6% and 8% is almost entirely the price of the oil, so it changes a great deal from one fragrance to another. The table reruns the oil line for ten in-stock CSI oils, each rounded to its own cheapest 50 g-and-up bottles at both loads with the same allowance stack. Wax, jars and wicks are the same as above for all of them.

Across those ten oils the extra for 8% runs from ₹1,290.00 (Citrus Lemon) to ₹10,827.00 (Club De Nuit Intense Inspired). That spread is why no supplier can tell you whether 8% is "worth it" in general. In a cheaper oil the step from 6% to 8% costs little more than a few labels; in an inspired fine-fragrance oil it is a meaningful share of your margin. If you are pricing a whole range, the 10%-versus-8% post runs the next step up, and the minimum-leftover post shows how to choose bottles when the rounding leaves an awkward remainder.

Argued against our own interest, plainly. We sell more oil at 8% than at 6%. But nothing CSI publishes says that 8% throws better than 6% in any oil or wax — we publish no throw measurements at all. If a blind side-by-side test shows your 6% candle is good enough, buy the 6% quantity and keep the ₹2,010.00. And if your 6% candle is weak, check the melt pool and the cure before you add oil: a candle whose pool never reaches the edge is not fixed by a higher load.

Decide the load on six candles before buying the oil

The cheapest way to settle 6% against 8% is to pour both before the production oil is bought. Three candles at each load, same wax, same wick, same jar, same pour day, compared blind at the same cure age. CSI 464's page states a fragrance load of up to 10%, so both loads sit inside the wax maker's ceiling with headroom. The stage-one kit below is priced from small listed packs.

1
Weigh both formulas on the finished-weight convention6%: 12 g oil + 188 g wax. 8%: 16 g oil + 184 g wax. Write the load on the base of every jar before pouring.
2
Pour three of each from one oil bottle and one wax bagSix candles in all. One bottle means one lot, so lot variation cannot hide inside the comparison. Oil needed: 84 g, or 88.2 g with a 5% allowance — one 100 g bottle.
3
Cure all six to the same checkpointUse labelled checkpoints such as 7 and 14 days and score cold throw at each. Do not burn the 8% candles earlier because they smell stronger in the jar.
4
Burn in matched pairs, 3–4 hours per cycleOne 6% and one 8% candle together, spaced apart in the same room. A 3–4 hour cycle with full cool-down between is a commonly used working practice. Record melt-pool width, flame, soot and a blind throw score from a fixed spot.
5
Apply one ruleIf the 6% candles meet your throw floor and are no worse than the 8% on every safety line, choose 6%. If only 8% meets the floor, choose 8%. If neither does, fix pool and cure before testing a higher load — the 10% page covers that step.
6
Then place the oil order for the load that passedProduction oil is the only line that waits for this result: 1 × 1 kg + 4 × 100 g at 6% or 1 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g + 3 × 100 g + 1 × 50 g at 8%.

Where this fits in the 50–100 candle shopping lists

This page owns one question: what changing the load from 6% to 8% does to a 100-candle order. Its neighbours own the rest. The 100 × 200 g lavender order is the full worked list for one oil; 50 vanilla candles at 8% runs the half-size batch; 100 oud candles at 10% shows how not to overfill the formula; first 100 candles: bulk or small sorts every material into bulk and test quantities; and the 100-candle shopping-list template turns all of it into one copyable sheet.

Two points of load is a third more oil. Price it before you pour it, and test it before you buy it.

Using a different wax? Luxury Soy Wax Chunks and Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 state ceilings of 13% on their product pages; Natural Soy Pearl Wax has none published, so treat 6–10% as a test range and ask on WhatsApp for the maker's figure. The full range is in Candle Wax.
Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. We sell more oil at 8% than at 6%, and this page still tells you to test 6% first and keep the difference if it passes. We publish no throw measurements for any oil or wax, so we do not claim that either load performs better.

Oil prices are CSI live pricing, pulled 24 September 2026, stock re-checked 4 October 2026; wax prices are CSI live pricing, re-checked 1 October 2026; wick, jar and sticker packs were re-checked 4 October 2026. Splits, allowances, pack rounding and leftovers are arithmetic, shown to one decimal of a gram and two decimals of a rupee so you can check every line.

The 200 g candle weight, 4 test candles, 3% rejects, 5% pour loss, 2% glass breakage, 4 spare wicks, burn cycles and cure checkpoints are labelled working assumptions, not standards. CSI does not publish the White Matte jar's fill weight or a wick size per diameter. Frequently asked questions

How much fragrance oil for 100 candles at 6%?
For 200 g candles, 1,200 g net (12 g each), or about 1,361 g once you allow for test candles, rejects and pour loss. Scale in proportion for other candle weights.
Is 8% fragrance load much more expensive than 6%?
It is a third more oil. In Japanese Cherry Blossom on 100 × 200 g candles the full CSI order differs by ₹2,010.00; in the ten oils tested on this page the oil line alone differs by ₹1,290.00 to ₹10,827.00.
Does a lower fragrance load mean I need more wax?
Yes. Load is a share of the finished candle, so at 6% each 200 g candle holds 188 g of wax instead of 184 g — 400 g more on 100 candles.
Is 6% fragrance load enough for soy candles?
CSI publishes no throw data, so only a test can say for your oil, wax, wick and jar. Pour three candles at each load and compare them blind at the same cure age before buying production oil.
Should I calculate fragrance load on wax weight or total weight?
CSI uses total (finished) weight: oil = candle weight × load. If you add oil as a % of wax, an "8%" batch is really 7.41% of the candle.
What size fragrance bottle should I buy for 100 candles?
Round the need with allowances up to the cheapest in-stock combination. For Japanese Cherry Blossom that is 1 × 1 kg + 4 × 100 g at 6% and 1 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g + 3 × 100 g + 1 × 50 g at 8%.

Non-price figures and assumptions: CSI convention: fragrance load is a share of the finished candle (oil = W × L). The 200 g candle, 4 test candles, 3% rejects, 5% pour loss, 2% glass breakage, 4 spare wicks, 3–4 hour burn cycles and 7/14-day cure checkpoints are labelled working assumptions. Oil rounding uses 50 g and larger bottles with a ₹3-per-bottle tie-break so near-equal options use fewer bottles; the tightest 15 g option is shown separately. What CSI's product pages state (quoted, not CSI test results): Luxury Soy Wax Chunks — maximum fragrance load 13%, cure minimum 48 hours, ideally 1–2 weeks; Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 — fragrance load up to 10%; Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 — fragrance load up to 13%, melting point 50–53°C, pour 58–60°C; Natural Soy Pearl — no fragrance ceiling, temperatures or shelf life published. CSI publishes no jar internal diameters or fill weights (except the Golden Aluminium Tin's 85 g and the Heart Cutout Velvet Jar's 50 g), no wick-size-per-diameter chart, no throw, burn or cure data for any oil or wax, and no volume discount beyond the listed packs. Label and courier lines are examples, never in the CSI total. Material costs exclude labour, packaging, freight and GST. Diwali 2026 falls on 8 November.
