I Want to Scale a Successful 1 Kg Formula to 50 Kg — What Should I Validate Before Buying and Mixing All the Raw Materials at Once?
Share
Is buying in stages more expensive? Not on Pearl Wax: the 50 kg pack is ₹21,240.00 and five 10 kg packs are also ₹21,240.00. Ask about delivery for multiple shipments.
Should I scent all 50 kg at once? No. Scent each batch at your validated size with its own weighed oil and keep the rest unscented until needed.
How do I check the bulk material? Make a 1 kg control from the new wax and oil, cure it beside an approved retain, and compare blind before production.
What your 1 kg success has and has not proved
A successful 1 kg batch proves that the formula can work: the fragrance and wax get along, the wick suits the jar, and the candle burns as intended. It does not prove that the bags of wax and bottles of oil you are about to buy will match the ones you tested, that your equipment can handle 50 kg consistently, or that 250 candles poured over a long session will behave like five poured in a few minutes.
So the answer to the question is to validate in stages, and to buy in stages where it costs you nothing extra. And whatever you buy, do not scent all 50 kg in one go. Mixing everything at once turns every unanswered question into a risk on the whole order.
The example here is Woody Oud at 8% of total weight in Natural Soy Pearl Wax, poured as 200 g jars. A 50 kg batch at 8% is 46 kg of wax and 4 kg of oil, filling 250 candles before losses, or about 237 after the planning allowance of 5%. Pearl Wax has no fragrance load published on its product page, which makes the validation step before bulk buying even more important.
What to validate before the bulk order
| Question | How to answer it | Why it matters at 50 kg |
|---|---|---|
| Is 8% right in this wax? | 1 kg tests at 6%, 8% and 10%, the stated range on the Woody Oud product page, cured at least 48–72 h | Pearl Wax publishes no load; guessing costs 4 kg of oil |
| Is the wick right for the jar? | Burn tests of each candidate wick in your actual jar, attended, stopped if smoking or flaring | A wrong wick on 250 candles is 250 returns |
| Is the bulk lot like the test lot? | A 1 kg control from the bulk wax and oil compared with your approved test | Your test material may be from a different lot |
| Does the process hold at production size? | A pilot batch at the largest size you plan to run, sampled at start, middle and end | Heat, hold and mixing change with size |
| Can your equipment handle the volume? | Weigh one real melter fill and plan the number of melts | The page's 9.5 litres is roughly 8.5 kg of melted soy wax |
If you cannot answer every row with evidence, do not buy all 50 kg yet. Buy enough to answer them.
Staged buying costs nothing extra on Pearl Wax
Makers often buy the biggest pack because it feels cheaper per kilogram. For Pearl Wax, check the numbers. The 50 kg pack is ₹21,240.00. Five 10 kg packs at ₹4,248.00 each are 5 × ₹4,248.00 = ₹21,240.00. The price per kilogram is identical from the 10 kg pack upwards, so splitting the purchase costs nothing in wax price.
| Stage | Buy | Working | Cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1: validate | One 10 kg Pearl pack, one 1 kg Woody Oud | ₹4,248.00 + ₹4,531.20 | ₹8,779.20 |
| 2: produce | Four 10 kg Pearl packs, three 1 kg Woody Oud | 4 × ₹4,248.00 + 3 × ₹4,531.20 = ₹16,992.00 + ₹13,593.60 | ₹30,585.60 |
| Total staged | 50 kg wax, 4 kg oil | ₹8,779.20 + ₹30,585.60 | ₹39,364.80 |
| All at once | One 50 kg Pearl pack, four 1 kg Woody Oud | ₹21,240.00 + 4 × ₹4,531.20 | ₹39,364.80 |
The material cost is the same either way: ₹39,364.80, or about ₹166.10 per candle over 237 sellable jars (₹39,364.80 ÷ 237). What staging changes is how much money is committed before the evidence exists: ₹8,779.20 rather than ₹39,364.80. The 10 kg bought in stage one is not wasted either; it supplies the tests and a pilot batch that becomes sellable stock if it passes.
Staging does mean more than one shipment. One reviewer of Premium Coconut Soy Wax wrote, "the delivery charges are very high which is restricting me," and that is a fair consideration. Ask on WhatsApp (+91 7397976926) for a combined quote and whether a larger order can be reserved from one lot while you validate. Weigh the delivery difference against the risk of committing the full sum untested.
When the bulk material arrives
Do not assume the stage-two wax and oil are identical to what you tested. Check them before they go into production.
Why you should not scent all 50 kg at once
Even with validated materials, scenting 50 kg in one go concentrates every process risk on 250 candles. On the melter's stated 9.5 litres per melt, 50 kg is roughly six fills, which means oil meeting wax at different times, a very long pour and a long hold for whatever was scented first.
Plan the order as a sequence of batches instead. If your pilot validated 5 kg batches, the 50 kg order becomes ten of them, each with its own 400 g of Woody Oud weighed by difference and its own batch number. If a fault appears in batch six, it is contained to 25 candles and the retains from batches one to five show you what normal looks like. The weighing takes longer, but it is the weighing that makes each batch traceable.
Scent each batch at the size your pilot validated, with its own weighed oil, and keep the rest of the wax unscented until its batch begins. Unscented wax keeps: CSI 464 and CSI 468 each state a 60-month shelf life in cool, dry storage, and although Pearl Wax publishes no figure, keeping it cool, dry and sealed is the sensible default. Scented wax held for hours is an extra variable that your 1 kg test never had.
If you have already bought and mixed everything
If the 50 kg is already scented and poured, treat it as one very large validation batch. Hold everything, group the candles by pour order into sets of about 25, and retain two from each set. Cure them together for at least the stated 48–72 hours and compare them blind with a fresh 1 kg control made from any remaining wax and oil.
Release the groups that match. Segregate the groups that do not, and decide between rework, seconds and write-off group by group, recording the reason. If some wax is still unscented and molten, cool it and set it aside for a validated batch later, rather than scenting it to match an unknown. Keep the melter off its maximum setting whenever you reheat, and use a separate thermometer, as its display carries a stated ±10°C deviation.

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials and production equipment, not finished candles. This guide separates general process physics from what CSI's own product pages state, and labels every mixing time, temperature window, hold limit, loss allowance or sample count as a starting point for your own validation.
Prices are live CSI prices from September 2026; product pages are authoritative. Where a spec is not published — such as the scale's capacity or the thermometer's range — this guide says so rather than filling the gap.

Eco Candle Wicks: Thin (C1) × 100 ₹590.00, Thin (C1) × 1,000 ₹5,900.00, Thick (C2) × 100 ₹944.00, Thick (C2) × 1,000 ₹9,440.00 — ₹5.90 (C1) and ₹9.44 (C2) per wick at every pack size.
Assumptions: Fragrance load is a percentage of total candle weight (200 g = 184 g wax + 16 g oil at 8%; a 25 kg batch at 8% = 23 kg wax + 2 kg oil). Melted soy wax is taken as roughly 0.9 g per ml for volume conversions, so the melter's stated 9.5 litres is about 8.5 kg — weigh one real fill. Mixing times, temperature windows, hold limits, loss allowances and sample counts are suggested starting points to validate, not measured CSI data. Example logs and readings are illustrations.
