What each budget buys

Because no minimum order is stated, a budget can be split any way you like. The table shows the two extremes and two sensible middle points: buying the cheapest in-stock oils first at each size, and buying at the median price. Cheapest-first is a ceiling on breadth, not a recommendation. Your shortlist will include dearer oils. But it shows how far each rupee can reach.

Read across a row and the trade-off is plain. ₹2,500 tests 26 scents at 15 g, or stocks seven at 100 g. The 100 g option looks more serious, but it assumes you already know which seven will sell. The 15 g option assumes nothing, and costs more per gram to buy that freedom: a median 23.1% premium over the same oil's 100 g. Read down a column and the other limit appears. The 15 g column stops at 51, because that is how many oils are in stock at 15 g. Past about ₹6,000, testers alone cannot absorb a budget, and the rest belongs in production sizes of the oils that pass. Tester price tiers

Not every 15 g is ₹68.44. The 51 in-stock testers fall into four price bands, and knowing them helps you build a shortlist that fits a budget without dropping the scents you care about.

Thirty-five of the 51 testers cost ₹120 or less. A ten-oil shortlist drawn mostly from the first two bands, with one or two from the third, costs ₹883.60 if you take the ten cheapest, and ₹1,062.00 at ten times the median ₹106.20; a couple of picks from the third band add ₹18.80 to ₹35.40 each over the median (₹125.00 to ₹141.60 against ₹106.20). A ₹3,000 all-in first order

Here is a complete first order for a small business starting from nothing. It tests eight scents from eight families, one 200 g candle each, poured at 7.5% (15 g of oil and 185 g of wax). It uses Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464, rated up to a 10% fragrance load by the wax maker, which is comfortably above the test load. The scents are picked for spread, not as a recommended range.

Only a quarter of this order is fragrance. That is normal for a first order and a useful thing to know: when a small business says its fragrance budget is ₹3,000, it usually means its total budget is ₹3,000, and a third to a quarter of that can go on oil. The second order: winners only

Suppose three of the eight pass: Mango Coconut, Roasted Coffee and Japanese Cherry Blossom. The second order moves only those three to 100 g, where the tester premium disappears. Everything else stays untested at larger sizes until it earns a place.

Three 100 g bottles cost ₹1,390.00 and scent 18.75 candles of 200 g. Where small budgets leak

A low minimum order removes the biggest leak, which is being forced to buy more than you can test. Three smaller leaks remain, and each has a simple fix.
