The wholesale price ladder, oil by oil, for Mumbai

CSI publishes one price list for everyone: a buyer in Mumbai pays the same listed price as a buyer in Pune; only the delivery differs. What changes with pack size is the price per gram — and on this range it changes far less than most people assume.

Where the price break is real — and where it is not

Across the core candle range, the kilogram is meaningfully cheaper per gram than 100 g on only a handful of oils: Mango Coconut (21%), Roasted Coconut (19%), Eucalyptus Spearmint (13%), Lemongrass and Lime (12%), British Rose (10%), Pumpkin Spice (10%). On 14 oils the kilogram costs exactly ten times the 100 g pack, and on 6 — Blue Ocean, Smoked Rose Royale, Midnight Bakhoor Royale, Sultan's Smoke, Jasmine Coconut Spa Ceylon — ten 100 g packs are a few rupees cheaper than one kilogram.

The reseller maths: what the oil costs inside a finished candle

For a 200 g candle at 8% using Lemongrass and Lime bought by the kilogram and Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 (flakes) at ₹507.40/kg: oil ₹83.20, wax ₹93.36, wick ₹5.90 — ₹182.46 in core materials, before the jar, label, packaging, labour, freight and GST.

Scale that to an example order — a Lower Parel firm ordering Diwali client gifts, 600 candles of 200 g — and the fragrance oil is 9.6 kg, or about ₹49,920. That is the number to use when a customer asks for a wholesale price per candle: know your oil cost per unit before you quote.

Who buys this way in Mumbai

Café or restaurant with a house candle. One signature scent that matches the menu and a reorder every few months. Consistency matters more than range.

Say that buyer pours 300 candles of 180 g. At 8% each candle takes 14.4 g of oil, so the run needs 4.32 kg — about 4.3 kg in total, split across however many scents the run carries. If it were all Roasted Coffee, the oil would cost about ₹16,148 at the 1 kg price.

A second Mumbai buyer: home-studio seller shipping across mumbai. Small runs, many scents, fast Instagram turnover. Keep most oils at 100 g and only the top seller at 1 kg; a 150 g tin is a popular gifting size. What Mumbai changes about wholesale buying

Mumbai is coastal and humid for most of the year, with one of the heaviest south-west monsoons of any Indian metro from June to September and a mild, short winter. Humidity, not heat, is Mumbai's issue. Fragrance oil does not absorb moisture, but wicks, labels and cartons do — so a Mumbai studio buying oil by the kilogram should also be storing wicks and packaging sealed through the monsoon.

A coastal, humid city rewards fresh and aquatic profiles in summer and warmer woods in the October–February season. That suggests a two-season range rather than one year-round list.

Space is the constraint most Mumbai studios mention. A kilogram of oil takes up very little room; forty kilograms of wax and three hundred jars do not. Plan oil around the jar and wax you can physically store, not the other way round.
