Best Bulk Fragrance Oils for Candle Businesses in India

Which oils are seasonal? Festive spice for Diwali (Apple Cinnamon ₹4,743.60/kg), cosy gourmand for Christmas (Cinnamon Vanilla ₹2,301 for 500g), citrus for summer (Citrus Lemon ₹2,832/kg) and earthy for the monsoon (Gilli Mitti ₹4,480 for 500g).
1 kg or 500g? On most CSI oils the per-gram price is flat or within about 1%, so buy the size you will pour. Pumpkin Spice is the exception: its 500g costs 11.1% more per gram than its kilo.
When do I order for Diwali 2026? Diwali is 8 November. For a two-week selling window and a 21-day cure, production should be poured by 4 October — so an untested festive oil needs its test pour this week.
Evergreen and seasonal: two different buying jobs
Most candle businesses buy fragrance one way: whenever a scent runs low, reorder a kilo. That works for scents that sell every month and quietly fails for scents that sell for eight weeks a year. The fix is to sort every oil in your range into one of two lists before you order anything, and to give each list its own rules. The test is simple: would you happily reorder this oil in any month of the year? If yes, it is evergreen. If its demand is tied to a festival, a season or the weather, it is seasonal — however well it sells in its window.
| Decision | Evergreen core | Seasonal oils |
|---|---|---|
| How many | 3–5 oils that anchor the range | 1–2 per season you actually sell into |
| Pack size | 1 kg, reordered as each bottle runs down | 500g or 1 kg, sized to the season's candle count |
| When to buy | On a reorder trigger (see below) | On a calendar date, worked back from the festival |
| End of season | Never — there is no end | Let it run out; don't top it up after the pour-by date |
| Main risk | Running out mid-month and losing reorders | Being left with most of a kilo for ten months |
| Testing | Proven once, then re-checked on each new batch | Tested in the off-season, before the window, never during it |
"How many" there is a starting framework, not a rule. The right number of evergreen oils is the number you can keep in stock without gaps; the right number of seasonal oils is the number of seasons you have customers for. A business that sells almost entirely at Diwali has one season, not five. For the broader question of how many scents a range should carry, see wholesale fragrance oil for candle manufacturers.
The evergreen core: four oils to hold at 1 kg
An evergreen oil needs three things: appeal that does not depend on the calendar, a price that lets it sit in a mid-priced candle, and ideally some written evidence from buyers. The four below cover four different customers — the calm-and-sleep buyer, the romantic or bridal gift, the traditional Indian gift, and the café-and-kitchen buyer — so the core does not repeat itself.
| Oil | The customer it serves all year | Review on its page (verbatim) | 1 kg | Per 200g @ 8% | Candles per kg |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Lavender | Calm, sleep, self-care, spa | "Hot throw is also very good after burn candle." | ₹5,221 | ₹83.54 | 62 |
| British Rose | Romantic and bridal gifting, Valentine's peak | "Fragrance oil is sooo good smell so good we love it a lot" | ₹3,068 | ₹49.09 | 62 |
| Sandalwood | Traditional Indian gifting, pooja, weddings, festivals | "Very good" | ₹5,026.80 | ₹80.43 | 62 |
| Roasted Coffee | Café, kitchen, work-from-home, buyers who avoid florals | "Coffee fragrance is quite strong and feels like yummy" | ₹3,738 | ₹59.81 | 62 |
| Core total | ₹17,053.80 | ₹68.22 average | 248 |
Why these four and not four others? Largely because of breadth and evidence — a Lavender buyer praising hot throw, a British Rose buyer who writes "we love it a lot", a Roasted Coffee buyer calling it "quite strong". Sandalwood's single review is short, but it earns its place for a different reason: in Indian gifting it is the scent with the fewest occasions it doesn't suit. If your market leans modern rather than traditional, Woody Oud (₹4,531.20/kg, reviewed for "strong performance in candles") is a reasonable swap and ₹495.60 cheaper per kilo. How to choose the very first of these oils is covered in the best fragrance oil for soy wax candles.
Every oil card below counts 200g candles at 8% per bottle. The 15g row reads ≈0 on purpose: a 15g trial is for smelling, not pouring, and has no place in a bulk plan.
| Size | Price | Per kg | 200g candles @ 8% |
|---|---|---|---|
| 15 gm | ₹93.22 | ₹6,214.67 | ≈0 |
| 50 gm | ₹271.40 | ₹5,428 | ≈3 |
| 100 gm | ₹502.68 | ₹5,026.80 | ≈6 |
| 500 gm | ₹2,513.40 | ₹5,026.80 | ≈31 |

Seasonal oils: buy for the window, then let them run out
Work every seasonal order backwards from the day the season peaks. The plan below uses three assumptions, stated so you can change them: a two-week selling window before the festival, a 21-day cure (standard practice for soy containers, and the full span for spice and gourmand oils), and two weeks before the production pour to receive oil and prepare. Summer and monsoon have no single date, so they are shown by month.
| Season | Oil and pack | Price | Candles @ 8% (200g) | Selling from | Production pour by | Oil in hand by |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Diwali · 8 Nov 2026 | Apple Cinnamon · 1 kg | ₹4,743.60 | 62 | 25 Oct | 4 Oct | 20 Sep |
| Christmas · 25 Dec 2026 | Cinnamon Vanilla · 500 gm | ₹2,301 | 31 | 11 Dec | 20 Nov | 6 Nov |
| Valentine's · 14 Feb 2027 | British Rose from the core | — | — | 31 Jan | 10 Jan | 27 Dec (top up the core) |
| Summer · roughly Mar–Jun | Citrus Lemon · 1 kg | ₹2,832 | 62 | March | February | January |
| Monsoon · roughly Jul–Sep | Gilli Mitti (Patchouli) · 500 gm | ₹4,480 | 31 | July | June | May |
| Seasonal total | ₹14,356.60 | 186 |
Working: selling from = peak − 14 days; pour by = selling from − 21 days; oil in hand = pour by − 14 days (Diwali: 8 Nov → 25 Oct → 4 Oct → 20 Sep). Seasonal total = ₹4,743.60 + ₹2,301 + ₹2,832 + ₹4,480 = ₹14,356.60; candles = 62 + 31 + 62 + 31 = 186. Pack sizes are an illustration sized to a small business — scale each to your own season's candle count at 16g per 200g candle.

1 kg or 500g: what the per-gram prices actually say
Bulk buyers assume the kilo is always the better deal. On CSI's listed prices that is mostly untrue — which is good news for seasonal buying, because it means the smaller bottle rarely costs you anything. The table compares the 500g and 1 kg per-gram price for every oil in this plan, plus two common alternates.
| Oil | List | 500g price · per g | 1 kg price · per g | 500g premium | Buy |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Apple Cinnamon | Seasonal | ₹2,371.80 · ₹4.7436 | ₹4,743.60 · ₹4.7436 | 0% | Season's quantity |
| Gilli Mitti | Seasonal | ₹4,480 · ₹8.96 | ₹8,960 · ₹8.96 | 0% | 500g unless you pour 31+ candles |
| Citrus Lemon | Seasonal | ₹1,420 · ₹2.84 | ₹2,832 · ₹2.832 | 0.3% | Season's quantity |
| Cinnamon Vanilla | Seasonal | ₹2,301 · ₹4.602 | ₹4,554.80 · ₹4.5548 | 1.0% | 500g for a first Christmas |
| Pumpkin Spice | Seasonal alternate | ₹2,950 · ₹5.90 | ₹5,310 · ₹5.31 | 11.1% | 1 kg if the season needs more than 31 candles |
| Sandalwood | Evergreen | ₹2,513.40 · ₹5.0268 | ₹5,026.80 · ₹5.0268 | 0% | 1 kg for stock continuity |
| Lavender | Evergreen | ₹2,620 · ₹5.24 | ₹5,221 · ₹5.221 | 0.4% | 1 kg |
| British Rose | Evergreen | ₹1,593 · ₹3.186 | ₹3,068 · ₹3.068 | 3.8% | 1 kg |
| Roasted Coffee | Evergreen | ₹1,890 · ₹3.78 | ₹3,738 · ₹3.738 | 1.1% | 1 kg |
Working: premium = (500g per gram − 1 kg per gram) ÷ 1 kg per gram; Pumpkin Spice (₹5.90 − ₹5.31) ÷ ₹5.31 = 11.1%. The Pumpkin Spice threshold: if a season needs more than one 500g bottle — about 31 candles — two 500g bottles would cost ₹5,900 against ₹5,310 for the kilo, so buy the kilo; at 31 candles or fewer, the 500g is the smaller outlay. For every other oil here, the pack decision is a quantity decision. Above 1 kg of any single oil, nothing is listed as one pack; recurring and larger volumes are quoted on WhatsApp.
Cash tied up: holding everything vs rotating the seasonal list
The per-gram price barely changes between strategies. The cash sitting in bottles changes a lot. Compare two ways to run the same eight-oil range.
| Strategy | What sits on the shelf in early November | Value |
|---|---|---|
| Hold everything | Core 4 kg (₹17,053.80) + Apple Cinnamon 1 kg (₹4,743.60) + Cinnamon Vanilla 1 kg (₹4,554.80) + Citrus Lemon 1 kg (₹2,832) + Gilli Mitti 1 kg (₹8,960) | ₹38,144.20 |
| Core + rotation | Core 4 kg (₹17,053.80) + Apple Cinnamon 1 kg (₹4,743.60) + Cinnamon Vanilla 500g (₹2,301) | ₹24,098.40 |
| Difference | Summer citrus and monsoon earth not yet bought; Christmas bought at 500g | ₹14,045.80 |
₹14,045.80 is cash available for jars, wax or marketing in the busiest quarter. And the rotation costs almost nothing in unit price: across the four seasonal oils, the 500g premium is 0–1%. The bigger saving is in what you are not left holding. A kilo of Gilli Mitti bought for a 31-candle monsoon leaves ₹4,480 of oil for ten months; a kilo of festive spice bought in September that sells 30 candles leaves half a bottle until next October. For planning inventory across the festive quarter as a whole, see how to plan fragrance inventory before the festive season.
Running the rotation: a reorder system for a small candle business
A rotation only works if it runs without you remembering it. Six habits turn the two lists into a system.
One last point about evidence. A star rating tells you someone liked an oil; the reviews worth most to a bulk buyer are the ones that describe what happened next — "I got many orders" on Apple Cinnamon, "we continue our shopping going forward" on Fresh Strawberries, "Will buy more" on Cinnamon Vanilla, "received a very positive review from my customer" on Orchard Pear. None of those is a sales figure, and this guide doesn't treat them as one; they are signs of repeat demand worth testing in your own market.
CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. A plan that tells you to buy seasonal oils in 500g and let them run out sells less oil up front than "stock a kilo of everything". We would rather you hold ₹24,098.40 of fragrance you pour than ₹38,144.20 you partly store, because a business with cash free for jars and marketing grows into a bigger customer.
All prices, pack sizes and per-gram comparisons are taken from live CSI stock in September 2026, and each oil links to its product page, which is always the authority on current pricing. Customer quotations are verbatim published reviews; we do not have, and do not claim, sales rankings or bestseller data for any oil. Seasonal windows, cure times and the two-week selling window are planning assumptions, stated in the sources below.

Figures verified September 2026: Evergreen core, 1 kg — Lavender ₹5,221 (500 gm ₹2,620), British Rose ₹3,068 (500 gm ₹1,593), Sandalwood ₹5,026.80 (500 gm ₹2,513.40; 100 gm ₹502.68), Roasted Coffee ₹3,738 (500 gm ₹1,890); alternate Woody Oud ₹4,531.20. Seasonal — Apple Cinnamon 1 kg ₹4,743.60 (500 gm ₹2,371.80), Cinnamon Vanilla 500 gm ₹2,301 (1 kg ₹4,554.80), Citrus Lemon 1 kg ₹2,832 (500 gm ₹1,420), Gilli Mitti 500 gm ₹4,480 (1 kg ₹8,960), Pumpkin Spice 500 gm ₹2,950 and 1 kg ₹5,310. Candle maths: 200g candle at 8% = 16g oil + 184g wax; candles per kilo 1,000 ÷ 16 = 62.5, rounded down to 62; per 500g, 31. Planning assumptions: Diwali 8 November 2026; Christmas 25 December 2026; Valentine's Day 14 February 2027; a two-week selling window before each date; a 21-day cure; two weeks between oil in hand and production pour; summer and monsoon windows are approximate. Reorder trigger of 250g is an illustrative setting. Cash comparison uses listed prices at the busiest point (early November) and assumes the core is held as full kilos. Five 1 kg bottles of Lavender at listed prices = ₹26,105 (a ceiling, not a quote). Prices and availability change — the linked product pages are always authoritative.
