What temperature should soy wax be melted to? Luxury Soy Wax Chunks: approximately 80–85°C. The CSI 464 page gives 80–90°C as its working range for melting and pouring. CSI 468 gives a 50–53°C melting point but no melt target; CSI 400 publishes none — ask on WhatsApp.

At what temperature do you add fragrance oil to soy wax? At 80–90°C, stirring slowly for 2 full minutes, per the Luxury Soy Wax Chunks page; Eco Soy CSI 400’s page says 85°C with a gentle 2-minute stir. CSI 464 and CSI 468 do not publish an add temperature.

What temperature do you pour soy wax at? By grade: Chunks 75–80°C; CSI 468 58–60°C; CSI 464 within its 80–90°C working range (80–85°C in a jar rated to 85°C); CSI 400 poured directly after its stir.

How long should a soy candle cure? The Chunks page says at least 48 hours, ideally 1–2 weeks, before burn testing. Standard practice for soy container candles is 14–21 days before judging throw or shipping — for Diwali on 8 November 2026, pour by about mid-October.

Every temperature band published on the product pages of the four CSI soy container grades, on one scale, with the Clear Glass Jar with Golden Lid’s 85°C hot-pour limit. It shows at a glance that CSI 468 works in a different band and that CSI 464’s range crosses that jar’s limit. Deliberately left out: unpublished stages, room and cooling figures, and any temperature for grades that publish none.
Straight answer
What are the right temperatures for soy wax, from melting to curing?
Use the figures on your own grade’s product page, stage by stage. Luxury Soy Wax Chunks publish the full method: melt to approximately 80–85°C, add dye at full melt, add fragrance at 80–90°C and stir slowly for 2 full minutes, pour at 75–80°C, and cure at least 48 hours, ideally 1–2 weeks, before burn testing. Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 gives 80–90°C as its working range for melting and pouring. Premium Coconut Soy CSI 468 works in a lower band: melting point 50–53°C, pour 58–60°C. Eco Soy CSI 400 says add fragrance at 85°C, stir gently for 2 minutes and pour directly. Where a jar publishes a limit — the Clear Glass Jar with Golden Lid is hot-pour safe to 85°C — pour inside both ranges. Jar, room, cooling and cure room are not on any wax page: use clean, dry, room-temperature jars, still air, a wooden surface, lids only once fully cool, and a 14–21 day cure for soy container candles. Anything not published, ask on WhatsApp rather than borrow another grade’s figure.

The bench card: every published soy temperature on one table

Print this table, tape it inside the cupboard door above your melter, and fill the gaps from WhatsApp — not from memory.

This is the reference the rest of the page hangs from. Every figure in it is quoted from the CSI product page for that wax. Where a page does not publish a stage, the cell says so. That is deliberate: a guide that fills blanks with another wax’s numbers is how a coconut-soy blend ends up poured 20 degrees too hot. The four columns are the soy container grades with published working figures; the remaining soy grades are covered underneath.

Four other soy grades publish no working temperatures at all: Premium Coconut Soy Wax, Natural Soy Pearl Wax, Soy Pillar Wax (for pillars and moulds, not jars) and Soy Butter Wax (for dessert and whipped candles). Read the card from left to right as a recipe and from top to bottom as a comparison. Two things stand out. The Chunks column is the most complete, so it is the easiest grade to follow without questions. And CSI 468 lives in a completely different temperature band from the other three — its whole 58–60°C pour window sits 15°C below the lowest pour figure published for the other three. The chart at the top of the page shows why that matters: put the bands on one scale and the difference is obvious in a way a list of numbers never is.

Check the thermometer first
A bench card is only as good as the thermometer reading against it. Once a month, stand the Pen Thermometer in a glass of crushed ice topped up with a little water, stir, and wait a minute: it should read close to 0°C. If it reads 3°C, every figure you pour to is off by 3°C — enough to move CSI 468 out of its 58–60°C window. Buying advice for thermometers: buy a candle thermometer in India.

Stages 1–4: melt, dye, fragrance and stir

Melting is about reaching the figure evenly and not overshooting it. Everything after depends on that.

Stage 1 — Melt

The Chunks page asks for approximately 80–85°C using a double boiler or electric melter, stirring occasionally for even heating; the CSI 464 page gives 80–90°C as its working range for melting and pouring. CSI 468’s page gives a 50–53°C melting point but no melt target, and CSI 400’s page gives none — for both, ask on WhatsApp what to melt to rather than assuming. In general practice, melt gently, stir so the bottom and edges are not hotter than the middle, and read the temperature in the wax, not on the dial.

Know what your equipment actually promises. The Mini Electric Wax Melter page lists Gear I (300W) at 70–85°C, with soy wax among its listed uses, and Gear II (600W) at up to 100–120°C for batch production, paraffin and beeswax. The Electric Wax Melter (Imported) page — ₹21,240.00 for 10 kg — describes a display from 60°C to 100°C with a ±10°C deviation, which is exactly why a pen thermometer still belongs beside a thermostat melter. A double boiler cannot push the pot wall much past the boiling point of water, which makes scorching unlikely, but it is slow and loses heat quickly once you lift the pan; the trade-offs are laid out in double boiler vs electric wax melter, and melting technique in how to melt wax without the mess.

Melting soy on the fast setting to save time. Gear II on the Mini Electric Wax Melter is listed at up to 100–120°C and recommended on its page for paraffin, beeswax and batch production — not for soy, which the page places under Gear I. Running soy hot overshoots every figure on the bench card and then costs you the time back waiting for the wax to fall to its fragrance temperature. Melt on the gentle setting and start earlier. Stage 2 — Dye

Only the Chunks page publishes a dye stage: add candle dye at full melt temperature and stir until evenly distributed — that is, at the 80–85°C melt, before the wax cools to the fragrance stage. Adding dye while the wax is fully liquid gives it the whole stir-and-cool period to disperse. Liquid dyes are concentrated (a 15 ml Candle Dye Liquid is ₹236.00), and in general practice soy’s natural opacity gives softer shades than the same dose in paraffin. For the other grades, dye at full melt is the natural reading of general practice, but confirm on WhatsApp.

Stages 3 and 4 — Fragrance and stir

This is the stage with the most shared agreement between pages. The Chunks page says allow the wax to reach 80–90°C, add fragrance oil and stir slowly for 2 full minutes, and explains why: added too hot, fragrance evaporates before the wax sets; added too cool, it seizes. The CSI 400 page says add fragrance or essential oils at 85°C and stir gently for 2 minutes, for the best hot throw. CSI 464 and CSI 468 publish no add temperature — ask. Weigh the oil in grams against the wax weight, and stir with something that does not whip in air (Bamboo Stirring Sticks, 5 for ₹118.00). Flashpoint is not an add temperature. It is a transport and safety property, not the point at which oil “burns off” in wax, and the 80–90°C window sits below the flashpoints most CSI oil pages give — British Rose lists 192°C. A few pages list much lower figures: the Gardenia Tuberose page gives 98°C and the Palo Santo page 93°C. With those, general good practice is to add at the cooler end of your wax’s window, stir, and move on to pouring rather than holding the wax hot.

Stage 5: pour — and the jar and room no wax page covers

The pour is the last temperature you control directly. The jar and the room keep controlling the candle for hours afterwards.

Pour figures from the pages: Luxury Soy Wax Chunks at 75–80°C, poured slowly to minimise air bubbles, into prepared containers with wicks in place; CSI 468 at 58–60°C; CSI 464 within its 80–90°C working range; CSI 400 poured directly after its 2-minute stir at 85°C. Read the temperature in the pitcher just before pouring, not on the melter, and read it again partway through a run of jars — a Steel Pouring Pitcher (600 ml, ₹708.00) sheds heat faster in an air-conditioned room than most people expect. The jar has a temperature figure of its own when its page gives one. The Clear Glass Jar with Golden Lid (150 g fill, ₹94.40 each in the 10-pack) is described as hot-pour safe to 85°C. Chunks at 75–80°C and CSI 468 at 58–60°C sit below it. CSI 464’s working range of 80–90°C runs past it, so in that jar pour CSI 464 at 80–85°C — the part of both ranges that agrees. That rule generalises: when a wax range and a container range overlap only partly, work inside the overlap. Where a jar page gives no figure, ask before pouring near the top of a hot range.

Jar and glass preparation matters most in exactly the conditions many Indian workshops have: AC rooms, winter mornings in the north, and jars delivered cold. Wipe with Isopropyl Alcohol Spray (₹383.00 for 150 ml), let it evaporate completely, and hold wicks upright with a Wick Centering Device (₹118.00). Stages 6–7: cooling, curing and storing wax

The last three temperatures on the card are not about heat you add. They are about heat you avoid.

Cooling is not published on any CSI wax page, so treat it as general practice: leave candles where they were poured until they have set through, then until the glass is cool to the touch, before lidding, labelling or boxing. How long that takes depends on the fill, the wax and the room far more than on any single number — a 70 g votive in an AC studio and a 550 g container in a May top-floor room are hours apart. Watch the first batch of a new jar and write the times in your log.

Cure is the one late stage a wax page does publish. The Chunks page asks for a minimum of 48 hours, ideally 1–2 weeks, before burn testing, and notes that soy throw improves significantly with curing time. Some CSI oil pages give shorter figures — the Dark Vanilla Fragrance Oil page gives 48–72 hours for soy. Both can be true: a candle can be test-lit early, but soy throw keeps developing, and 14–21 days by fragrance family is standard practice for soy container candles before you judge or ship a new formula (why a candle needs a 14-day cure). Cure lidded, at a steady room temperature, out of sun.

Storage closes the loop, because heat damage to unopened wax happens long before the melt. The CSI 464 page states a 60-month shelf life in cool, dry storage and asks for it to be kept away from direct sunlight and moisture; the CSI 468 page gives the same 60 months and says keep sealed. In India that means off the floor in monsoon, away from the west-facing wall in summer, and never in a car boot or a tin-roofed godown. Reseal opened bags; flakes that have picked up damp or dust bring that to every jar.

Lidding and boxing candles the same evening to beat a courier pickup. Candles that are set on top but still warm in the core and at the glass keep shrinking and releasing heat under the lid; stacked warm in a box they also warm each other. The general rule is fully cool first — then lid, label and pack. If a festive dispatch deadline is squeezing that step, it is the pour date that is late, not the cooling that is slow. Diwali is 8 November 2026. Candles poured on 15 October finish a 14-day cure on 29 October and a 21-day cure on 5 November, leaving 3 days for courier transit; for 21-day fragrance families, pouring by 8 October completes the cure on 29 October with 10 days to spare. Temperatures on the card do not change for festive batches — only the calendar does. The temperature log sheet

The bench card says what should happen. The log says what did — and it is the only thing that fixes next month’s batch.

A log sheet turns a bad batch from a mystery into a comparison. Every line below is a measurement or an observation, never a judgement, and each maps to a stage on the bench card. The example column is illustrative — a Chunks batch in a Pune home workshop — not a record of a real batch. Copy the table into a notebook or spreadsheet, one column per batch.

Over a season the log becomes your own bench card. It will show you, in your workshop, that a 3°C drop between the first and last jar in the pitcher lines up with one jar’s rougher top, or that the batches cooled near the window in May frosted and the ones in the inner room did not. No supplier’s product page can tell you that — and no one else’s blog can either.

One melt from start to finish: a worked 30-candle run

The order: 30 gifting candles in the Clear Glass Jar with Golden Lid (150 g fill). Each gets 140 g of Luxury Soy Wax Chunks and 11.2 g of British Rose Fragrance Oil — 8% of wax weight, the Chunks page’s starting point — about 151 g poured. That is 4.2 kg of wax from one 5 kg pack (₹2,995.00), 336 g of oil from a 500 gm bottle (₹1,593.00), 30 Eco C1 wicks from the 50-pack (₹295.00) and three 10-packs of jars (₹2,832.00). Materials per candle: wax ₹83.86 + oil ₹35.68 + wick ₹5.90 + jar ₹94.40 = ₹219.84.

The melter sets the rhythm. A 1-litre melter holds less than a kilogram of molten wax, because liquid wax is lighter than water; planning each melt at about 700 g of wax (five candles) leaves room to stir without spills — a planning assumption, not a figure from the melter page. Thirty candles are six melts. The table follows one of them.

Where does it usually go wrong? Not at the melt — at the pour of jars 4 and 5, when the pitcher has drifted towards the bottom of the window while you were fixing a wick, and in the cooling spot, when the only free surface in a busy house is the kitchen granite under the fan. Three rejected candles from this run cost ₹659.53 in materials. A second thermometer reading and a wooden board cost nothing.

Two honest notes on the equipment. One verified reviewer at the top of this page likes the Mini Electric Wax Melter but asks for a 2–3 litre version; CSI does not list one, and the next step up is the Electric Wax Melter (Imported) at ₹21,240.00 for 10 kg, which only makes sense at production volume. And one reviewer who rates the soy wax highly found the shipment charges too high — ordering the wax, oil, wicks and jars for a run like this together, and asking for a delivery quote to your pincode on WhatsApp first, is the practical answer. When figures conflict or are missing: six rules

Product pages are written one product at a time. Your pot holds a wax, an oil, a dye and a jar at once.

1. Wax range meets jar limit — work inside the overlap. CSI 464 in the 85°C-rated Clear Glass Jar with Golden Lid pours at 80–85°C. 2. Wax ceiling meets oil page range — the lower figure governs. CSI 464 is rated up to 10%; an oil page that says 6–9% for candles caps that pairing at 9%. 3. Oil flashpoint below 100°C — add at the cool end of the window. Gardenia Tuberose (98°C) and Palo Santo (93°C) still go in inside your wax’s window, at its lower end, without holding the wax hot.

4. Oil page cure meets wax page cure — test early, judge late. A 48–72 hour figure on an oil page and the Chunks page’s ideally 1–2 weeks describe different things: when a candle can be lit, and when soy throw is developed. 5. Melter dial meets thermometer — the thermometer wins. The imported melter page itself states a ±10°C deviation. 6. Nothing published — ask, do not borrow. CSI 468’s add temperature, CSI 400’s fragrance ceiling, and every temperature for Premium Coconut Soy Wax, Natural Soy Pearl, Soy Pillar Wax and Soy Butter Wax are WhatsApp questions, not guesses.

Treating “not published” as “anything goes”. The most common version: a maker moves from Luxury Soy Wax Chunks to CSI 468, sees no fragrance-add figure on the CSI 468 page, and adds oil at the Chunks’ 80–90°C out of habit — to a wax whose published pour is 58–60°C and whose melting point is 50–53°C. That may work, or it may not; the point is that nobody has told you. Ask for the figure before the batch, write the answer on your bench card with the date, and treat it as published from then on.

One more tool deserves a line because it tempts people to improvise. The CSI Hot Air Gun page describes a fixed temperature of about 200°C that cannot be adjusted, used at 5–6 cm and a 45-degree angle; it is currently very low in stock. In general practice a heat gun is for gently reflowing a rough top or warming a cold jar from a distance — never for heating wax towards any figure on the bench card, and never close enough to overheat glass.

The published figures stay the same all year. The room, the jars and the pitcher do not.

Nothing in this section changes a product-page figure. It is general practice for staying inside those figures when the weather is pushing you out of them. Cities are examples of conditions, not forecasts; a ground-floor room in Delhi and a top-floor terrace room a few streets away can differ by more than two cities do.

Summer has a second temperature problem after the pour: finished candles in 40°C rooms, delivery vans and parcels. The bench card cannot solve that, but it can stop you making it worse — a candle poured, cooled and cured inside its published figures is more stable in heat than one rushed. What is the best temperature to melt soy wax?
Follow your grade’s page. Luxury Soy Wax Chunks: approximately 80–85°C, in a double boiler or electric melter. Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464: the page gives 80–90°C as its working range for melting and pouring. On a Mini Electric Wax Melter, the page places soy under Gear I (70–85°C), not the faster Gear II.
What temperature should I add fragrance oil to soy wax?
80–90°C with a slow 2-minute stir for Luxury Soy Wax Chunks, and 85°C with a gentle 2-minute stir for Eco Soy CSI 400. The Chunks page warns that too hot makes fragrance evaporate before the wax sets and too cool makes it seize. CSI 464 and CSI 468 publish no add temperature — ask.
Why is the pouring temperature of CSI 468 so much lower than other soy waxes?
Because it is a coconut-soy blend that works in a lower band: its page gives a melting point of 50–53°C and a pour of 58–60°C. Pouring it at a container soy figure such as 75–80°C starts it far further above setting than its page intends.
Can I pour soy wax at 90°C?
Only where both the wax and the container allow it. CSI 464’s page gives 80–90°C as its working range, but the Clear Glass Jar with Golden Lid is described as hot-pour safe to 85°C, so that pairing pours at 80–85°C. Luxury Soy Wax Chunks pour at 75–80°C and CSI 468 at 58–60°C, so 90°C is outside both.
Should the jar or room be a specific temperature when pouring soy candles?
No CSI wax page publishes one. General practice is clean, fully dry jars at room temperature, a steady room with no fan or AC blowing on the candles, and a wooden board rather than stone or steel. In a cold room, let jars reach room temperature — or warm them gently — before pouring.
How long should soy candles cool before putting lids on?
Until they have set right through and the glass is cool to the touch — general practice, since no wax page publishes a time. It varies from a short wait for a small votive in a cool room to much longer for a large jar in a 40°C room. Record your own times in the log; then cure 14–21 days before judging throw.
