Pillar & Mould · Decorative
A decorative candle is judged before it is lit. The customer sees a rose, a lotus or a ladoo and already expects a smell. The best oil for a moulded candle is the one that meets that expectation, in a colour that fits, at a price the piece can carry.

materials for a three-piece Diwali box (ladoo, lotus, rose; illustrative 60 g, 100 g and 150 g at 8%) · CSI live pricing, September 2026
Quick answers — read this first
What fragrance oils are best for moulded candles? The ones that match what the shape makes people expect. A rose mould suggests rose, a lotus suggests jasmine or an Indian floral, a ladoo suggests sweet spice, and an orange suggests orange. The pairing table lists oils worth testing for each CSI mould. We have not published throw measurements, so test each one.

Do decorative candles need a strong oil? Many decorative pieces are displayed more than they are burned, so how they smell unlit, in the box and on the shelf, matters as much as how they burn. We have not published cold-throw data. Test the unlit scent over two weeks as well as the burn. Strong Fragrance Oils for Scented Mould Candles has a side-by-side protocol.

How much oil goes into a decorative piece? At an 8% working load, 4.8 g in an illustrative 60 g piece, 8 g in 100 g and 12 g in 150 g. No ceiling is published for pillar wax, so test 6/8/10%. Weigh your mould's wax fill first, as cavity weights are not published.

Which dyes can I use to match the scent? Liquid red, blue, purple and brown were in stock at ₹236.00, plus red, yellow and blue chips at ₹250.00. Liquid green, liquid yellow and green chips were out of stock, so use green mica for leaves. Dye dose is not published; follow the product page.
The short answer
Pairings: Rose → British Rose / Smoked Rose Royale · Lotus → Jasmine / Raat Ki Rani · Ladoo → Cinnamon Vanilla / Roasted Coconut · Orange → Juicy Orange / Citrus Lemon · Teddy → Vanilla Bean · Beach pillar → Blue Ocean / Cucumber Green Tea.
Cost: Oil for a 100 g piece at 8% runs ₹28.23 (Cucumber Green Tea) to ₹63.92 (Smoked Rose Royale) at 100 g rates. Diwali trio box: ₹305.80 in materials.
Caution: Food-shaped candles (ladoo, orange, ramen) can be mistaken for food by children. Label them clearly as candles, not for eating.
Shop: Ladoo Mould · Lotus Mould · Fragrance Oils · pairings on WhatsApp.
Shape sets the expectation — pair each mould with a scent a customer would guess Big Rose · Rose Bud British Rose · Smoked Rose Royale Lotus Jasmine · Raat Ki Rani Cherry Blossom Japanese Cherry Blossom Ladoo Cinnamon Vanilla · Roasted Coconut Orange Juicy Orange · Citrus Lemon Teddy Vanilla Bean · Chocolate Fudge (50 g) Mould (what they see) Oils worth testing first (what they expect) Pairings are suggestions to test, not throw rankings. We have not published throw measurements for any oil.
Each pairing is a starting point: an oil whose name and family match what a buyer expects from the shape. None is ranked by throw, and each should be tested in your wax and mould. Chocolate Fudge is listed at 50 g because its 100 g was out of stock on the pull date.
Straight answer
What are the best fragrance oils for moulded decorative candles?
Start from the shape. A moulded candle is judged by eye first, so the scent should confirm what the shape suggests. For CSI's Big Rose Mould, that points to British Rose (₹3.42/g at 100 g) or Smoked Rose Royale for a premium piece. For the Lotus Flower Mould, Jasmine or Raat Ki Rani. For the Ladoo Mould, Cinnamon Vanilla or Roasted Coconut. For the Orange Mould, Juicy Orange. Then match the colour with dyes that are actually in stock, and test the unlit scent as well as the burn, because many decorative pieces are displayed more than they are lit. At an 8% working load, a 100 g piece holds 8 g of oil, costing ₹28.23 to ₹63.92 across the pairings on this page. No fragrance ceiling is published for pillar wax and no cavity weight for any mould, so weigh your fill and test a labelled 6/8/10% ladder. We have not published throw measurements. These are pairings to test, not rankings.
One line: the shape makes a promise about the smell; choose the oil that keeps it.
A Diwali shape-and-scent pair to test this week: Ladoo Silicone Mould at ₹472.00 with Cinnamon Vanilla 15 g at ₹106.20, and Lotus Flower Mould at ₹295.00 with Jasmine 15 g at ₹103.00. That is ₹976.20 for two moulds and 30 g of oil.
Shop the Ladoo Mould

Why the shape sets the scent

Nobody sniffs a rose-shaped candle expecting coffee. The mould has already told them what to expect.

A container candle is chosen by its label: the customer reads "Sandalwood" and then smells it. A moulded decorative candle works the other way round. The shape comes first. A rose, a lotus, a ladoo or an orange sets up a smell in the buyer's mind before they lean in. When the scent agrees with the shape, the piece feels finished and considered. When it contradicts it, even a good oil can feel wrong. A rose that smells of marine air is not a bad candle, but it is a confusing one.

That gives decorative makers a useful shortcut. For most shapes the scent family is already chosen for you, and your job is to pick the best-value, best-behaved oil inside that family. For abstract shapes — bubbles, ribbed pillars, geometric pieces — you are free to choose, and a clean or modern profile usually suits the look. For food shapes you need a sweet or fruity scent and a clear label, because a candle that looks and smells like food can be mistaken for it.

Label food-shaped candles plainly
Ladoo, orange and ramen shapes scented with sweet or fruity oils look and smell edible, especially to children. Put "Candle — not for eating" on the piece or its packaging, and keep displays out of reach of small children. This is general safety practice, not a legal statement. Ask your own adviser about labelling rules for what you sell.

Mould-by-mould pairings

The table pairs each in-stock decorative mould with one or two oils worth testing first, and a stated reason. Oils are priced at 100 g where that size is in stock (Chocolate Fudge at 50 g, because its 100 g was out of stock). The last column is the oil cost for an illustrative 100 g piece at 8%. Mould cavity weights are not published, so weigh your own and scale. None of this is a throw ranking.

Cucumber Green Tea fresh, low cost ₹352.82 / 100 g ₹3.53 ₹28.23

A few notes on the pairings. Peony: CSI does not list a peony oil, so the suggestions are soft white florals in the same mood: Gardenia and Japanese Cherry Blossom. Rose: Smoked Rose Royale starts at 100 g (₹799.00) and has no tester size, so screen the shape with British Rose first. Teddy: soft gourmands suit it, but vanilla-rich oils are commonly associated with discolouring pale wax over time. Test a teddy in light for a couple of weeks before you pour a batch in ivory or pink. Ramen: the catalogue has no savoury scent, and you would not want one. Choose a clean, light scent such as Lemongrass and Lime, or sell it unscented as a novelty.

Where a shape has two oils, the first is usually the cheaper or more obvious match and the second the more premium or more specific one. That lets you offer the same shape at two price points. A British Rose rose is an entry gift; a Smoked Rose Royale rose in a deeper red is the premium version. Oil for a 100 g piece costs ₹27.38 against ₹63.92.

Argued against our own interest, plainly. The pairing table would sell more oil if every shape had its own dedicated scent. Most decorative makers should do the opposite. Choose three or four oils that cover your shapes — a rose, an Indian floral, a sweet spice and a citrus — and pour every mould from those. You buy fewer bottles, move each one to a 100 g sooner, and stop tying up money in fifteen half-used testers.

Colour that agrees with the scent

The colour is the third part of the promise. A pale pink rose reads as soft, a deep red rose reads as rich, and a ladoo should be golden rather than blue. Before you plan a colour story, check which dyes are actually in stock. On the pull date, several greens and one yellow were not.

Dye and mica pricing, catalogue pull 24–25 September 2026 · dose per kg of wax not published
In-stock colour for each group of shapes

Leaves, stems (green) Green mica ₹57.82 / 10 g (surface) Liquid green and green chips out of stock
Shimmer on any shape White mica ₹57.82 / 10 g In stock

CSI does not publish dye doses per kilo of wax, and we will not invent one. Follow each dye's product page and make a small test piece for each shade, labelled with the drops or chips used. Remember that the oil can shift the colour too. A golden oil tints pale wax slightly, and some warm and vanilla-rich oils are commonly associated with yellowing or browning over time. Test the dye and the oil together, not separately. For green leaves and stems, dust green mica onto the surface of the set piece, since both green dyes were out of stock.

The colour drift nobody planned. A maker pours pale pink roses with a vanilla-heavy blend, photographs them at demould and lists them online. Three weeks later the stock has warmed to a peach colour and no longer matches the photographs. The fix is to test oil and dye together in light for two weeks before photographing, or to choose a deeper shade that hides the drift. Colour change is general practice to test for, not a measured result for any CSI oil.

Scent before it is lit

Many decorative candles spend their life on a shelf. Their unlit scent is the one the customer knows.

Decorative pieces are often bought as gifts, décor or festive objects and burned rarely, if at all. That makes the unlit scent — how the piece smells in the box, in the shop and on the table — part of the product. It is also the scent a customer judges when they pick it up at a stall. We have not published cold-throw measurements for any oil, and cold scent varies with the wax, the load, the cure and the packaging. So test it the way customers experience it.

1
Pour matched test piecesSame mould, same wax, same load (8% is a sensible working point), one piece per candidate oil. Label the bases.
2
Cure them the same waySame room and same time. Write down the date.
3
Smell them unlit at three pointsOne day, one week and two weeks after pouring. Smell each one at arm's length and close up, and note which you notice first. Score each from 1 to 5, and have someone else score as well.
4
Box one of eachPut one piece of each oil in the packaging you will sell in, closed, for a week. Open it and note what greets you. This is the moment a gift recipient has.
5
Burn the ones that will be burnedIf your pieces are wicked and meant to be lit, run a burn test on the survivors. Detailed shapes can burn unevenly, so check the flame and the pool as well as the scent.
6
Keep the notesThe scores decide the range. Strong Fragrance Oils for Scented Mould Candles has a fuller scoring sheet if you want to compare several oils head to head.
The CSI principle
The shape makes a promise; the scent keeps it; the colour confirms it.
When all three agree, a simple moulded piece looks like a considered product. When one disagrees, the customer notices, even if they cannot say why. Choose the oil inside the family the shape suggests, test it unlit and lit, and colour it with what is in stock.

Pricing a decorative gift box

Decorative pieces often sell as sets. Here is a three-piece Diwali box: a ladoo, a lotus and a rose, each scented to its shape. The weights are illustrative (60 g, 100 g and 150 g), because cavity weights are not published. Each is at 8% in Soy Pillar Wax at ₹0.60 a gram, with one braided wick at ₹12.00 each as a costing placeholder. Oils are priced at 100 g.

Illustrative weights · 8% load · oils at 100 g rates · excludes moulds, dye, box, labour, freight and GST
Materials for one Diwali trio
Piece Oil Oil grams Oil cost Wax cost Wick Piece total
Ladoo (illustrative 60 g) Cinnamon Vanilla 4.8 g ₹23.22 ₹33.12 ₹12.00 ₹68.34
Lotus (illustrative 100 g) Jasmine 8.0 g ₹34.40 ₹55.20 ₹12.00 ₹101.60
Big Rose (illustrative 150 g) British Rose 12.0 g ₹41.06 ₹82.80 ₹12.00 ₹135.86
Box of three 24.8 g ₹305.80

One box uses 24.8 g of oil in total: 4.8 g of Cinnamon Vanilla, 8 g of Jasmine and 12 g of British Rose. So a 100 g bottle of each oil covers 20.83 ladoos, 12.5 lotuses or 8.33 roses. For 50 boxes you would need 240 g of Cinnamon Vanilla, 400 g of Jasmine and 600 g of British Rose, plus 3–5% for loss. At that scale, British Rose's 500 g (₹3.19/g) and 1 kg (₹3.07/g) are worth pricing, as is Jasmine's 500 g (₹3.92/g). For larger orders, Wholesale Fragrance Oils for Decorative Candle Makers covers wholesale decorative pricing.

Diwali is on 8 November 2026. Gift boxes need pouring, curing, colour checks and packing, so plan to pour by mid-October. Send us your shapes, box counts and scents, and we will quote oils, wax and dyes together, with GST invoice and IFRA documentation on request.

Three oils for decorative moulded work

These three cover the shapes Indian decorative makers pour most for the festive season: lotus and puja pieces, sweets, and fruit. They are chosen for pairing and price, not throw. Test each one in your wax and mould.

1
Indian floral · lotus and puja pieces
Jasmine Fragrance Oil
The natural partner for the Lotus Flower Mould and puja-corner pieces, and good value: ₹4.30 a gram at 100 g. It is one of the 24 oils with a real saving above 100 g: the 500 g and 1 kg are both ₹3.92 a gram, 8.8% below the 100 g.

Sweet spice · ladoos and festive sweets
Cinnamon Vanilla Fragrance Oil
A warm, sweet profile for the Ladoo Mould and festive boxes. The 1 kg is 5.9% cheaper per gram than the 100 g (₹4.55 against ₹4.84). Because it contains vanilla, test it in pale wax in light before you commit to a colour. A golden or amber ladoo hides drift better than an ivory one.

Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. A pairing page could easily list every oil we sell against every mould. This one suggests one or two per shape, tells you to cover a whole decorative range with three or four oils, and says where a shape has no natural scent in our catalogue.

Oil and wax prices are CSI live pricing, pulled on 24 September 2026. Mould, dye and mica prices come from the 24–25 September 2026 catalogue pull, and wick prices from Blog 760's figures verified on 10 September 2026, rechecked on 25 September. Out-of-stock oils, sizes and dyes are named, not priced as buyable. Per-piece and gift-box costs are plain arithmetic, shown to two decimals.

Pairings are suggestions to test, not throw rankings; we have not published hot- or cold-throw measurements. The 60 g, 100 g and 150 g pieces are illustrative, since cavity weights are not published, and 8% is a working load, since no pillar-wax ceiling is published. Colour change and structure are general practice to test for. For pairing help or a quote, message us on WhatsApp at +91 7397976926.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best fragrance for decorative candles?
The one that matches the shape: rose for rose moulds, Indian florals such as Jasmine for lotus pieces, sweet spice like Cinnamon Vanilla for ladoos, citrus for fruit. We have not published throw data, so treat these as pairings to test in your wax.
Can I put fragrance oil in decorative mould candles?
Yes. Mix it into melted wax before pouring, at a tested load. Weigh your mould's wax fill first, as cavity weights are not published. At 8%, an illustrative 100 g piece takes 8 g of oil. No pillar-wax ceiling is published, so test 6/8/10%.
Why does my decorative candle not smell when unlit?
Unlit scent depends on the oil, the load, the wax, the cure and the packaging. Let the piece cure fully, compare oils side by side at the same load, and check it after a week in its box. We have not published cold-throw measurements, so test.
Which colour dye goes with which candle fragrance?
Let the shape and scent lead: red or pink for rose, purple for lavender tones, brown for chocolate and teddy, yellow chips for sunflower and orange, blue for marine. Liquid green, liquid yellow and green chips were out of stock, so use green mica for leaves. Follow each dye's product page for the dose.
Are food-shaped scented candles safe to sell?
They are common, but a ladoo or orange candle with a sweet scent can be mistaken for food, especially by children. Label them clearly as candles and not for eating, and ask your own adviser about labelling rules for your market.
How much does it cost to make a scented rose candle?
For an illustrative 150 g rose at 8% in Soy Pillar Wax with a braided wick: ₹135.86 with British Rose at 100 g rates. The Big Rose Mould is ₹590.00, a one-off. Dye, box, labour, freight and GST are extra.
Shape, scent, colour
Choose three or four oils that cover every shape you pour, and test them unlit and lit.

Oil = piece weight × load at an 8% working load; no fragrance ceiling is published for Soy Pillar Wax, and 13% is never exceeded. One braided wick at ₹12.00 is a costing placeholder. Dye doses are not published. Pairings are suggestions to test, not measured throw. Discolouration and food-shape labelling notes are general practice, not legal advice. The 3–5% loss allowance is a working assumption. Diwali 2026 falls on 8 November. Prices and availability change — the linked product pages are always authoritative.
