Best Rose Fragrance Oils for Candle Making in India

The two roses CSI actually sells

Every other family in this series argues about degree — how smoky the oud, how sweet the coffee. Rose argues about direction. One rose is dewy, green-edged and pale: the rose of a bridal shower, a blush-coloured jar, a gift bought for someone else. The other is dark, resinous and incense-led: rose placed next to something burning. The CSI pages describe both in their own words, and they could not be further apart. British Rose is described as "Sophisticated, timeless, elegant - not heavy or synthetic". Smoked Rose Royale's page says plainly: "Not soft romantic rose.Not fresh garden rose.This is rose with attitude."

The two roses need different everything: the soft rose wants white or pastel wax, a clean label and a lid, while the smoky rose wants dark glass, a heavier vessel and a higher price. Decide which rose your brand sells, then buy the oil that matches it — and keep the other as a deliberate second line, not a substitute.

The table below quotes each page as published. Where a listing gives a top–heart–base pyramid, that is what appears; where it gives a prose profile instead, that prose is quoted. Nothing in this column is our description of how an oil smells — it is the supplier's own text, which is the only description you are entitled to repeat on your own shop.

Every pack, every price, cost per candle

Here is the buying table. Every size CSI lists appears with its price, the per-gram basis at the largest listed pack, and the fragrance cost inside one 200g candle at 8% (16 g of oil) and 10% (20 g). The last column is the oil bill for a hundred of those candles, which is the number that actually decides whether a scent earns a place in your range.

Two things are worth saying out loud. First, British Rose is the cheapest oil in this guide by a wide margin — ₹49.09 of oil in a candle you can sell as a premium floral. Second, the price ladder inside each listing is not the same shape. British Rose falls from ₹6.29 a gram at 15 gm to ₹3.068 at 1 kg, a 51% drop. Smoked Rose Royale is effectively flat: ₹7.99 a gram at 100g and ₹7.999 at 1kg. On that oil there is no per-gram reward for the bigger bottle at all, so buy the size your production plan actually consumes and nothing more.

The rose oils worth ordering

Vanillin, colour and the vessel decision

A rose candle is usually a pale candle. Blush wax, white wax, a frosted or clear jar, a ribbon. That aesthetic is the reason a customer pays a premium for it — and it is the aesthetic most easily ruined by an oil that browns over three weeks on a shelf. Vanillin, the compound that gives vanilla its character, is the usual culprit, and it appears in more oils than makers expect because it sits in gourmand and amber bases rather than in the flower itself.

This is where British Rose earns its place. Its page publishes a number — "Vanillin Content 0%" — and states the consequence: "No discolouration - safe for white, cream, and pastel waxes". No other rose listing at CSI publishes a vanillin figure at all. That is not a claim about competitors and it is not a claim about the whole range; it is one page being unusually specific, and you can quote it on your own listing.

Loads, cure and which wax to pour rose on

Every oil page in this family that publishes a load publishes a different one, and none of them knows what wax you are using. The wax page has its own ceiling. The number you pour is the lower of the two — always, without exception, and regardless of which is more flattering. Below is that arithmetic done for the four CSI container waxes against the rose oils' stated figures.

Cure is the other half of the recipe, and here the rose pages are unusually helpful. British Rose states "Cure 48-72 hours before burn testing" for soy and 24–48 hours for paraffin. The Luxury Soy Wax Chunks page states a minimum of 48 hours and "ideally 1-2 weeks". Those two are not in conflict: the oil page is telling you when a test becomes meaningful, and the wax page is telling you when the candle is at its best. For a product you intend to sell, use the longer figure — 14 to 21 days is the convention this series uses for soy containers — and judge the test jar at both ends so you know how much the wait is buying you. The four-jar rose shortlist, costed

Before a rose goes into a range, four jars settle it: the soft rose at two loads, the dark rose, and the rose-heart alternative. One variable moves per jar; everything else — wax, jar, wick, add temperature, pour temperature, cure — is fixed and written down. Total materials: ₹1,690.88, of which ₹799 is the one oil with no sample size.

Buying rose for a 300-candle wedding run

Rose sells hardest in India around weddings, and wedding orders arrive as a number of favours rather than a number of kilos. Here is the bill of materials for 300 × 120 g favour candles at 8% — 2,880 g of oil and 33,120 g of wax — built on British Rose, with the oil line priced for the two alternatives as well. Diwali 2026 falls on 8 November, and wedding season follows it; the oil is the line to order early, because it is the one with the longest lead on your own decision-making.

Read the last two rows carefully, because they are the commercial argument of this whole guide. The oil is only 19.8% of the materials bill on British Rose. Switch to the smoky rose and the same 300 favours cost ₹14,095.20 more — ₹46.98 a candle — with no change to the jar, the wax, the wick or the label. That is a price-point decision, not a fragrance decision, and it should be made before you take the order rather than after.
