Spending your first kilogram: a five-candle test that tells you something
A 1 kg bag gives you five 200 g candles and almost no margin. Five candles at 184 g of wax each use 920 g. Add the 5% planning allowance and you need 966 g, which leaves 34 g in the bag. So treat this kilogram as a test kit rather than a product run, and decide before you melt anything what each of the five candles is for.
Give each candle a job
Pour all five with the same wax, the same oil and the same jar. Change one thing only: the wick. Put three candles on Eco Candle Wicks Thin (C1) at ₹5.90 each and two on Thick (C2) at ₹9.44 each. Label the base of every jar with the wick and the pour date. After the cure, burn one of each side by side. The candle whose melt pool reaches the edge without a tall, restless flame tells you which wick to order next time. The candles you do not burn become your reference samples for the next bag.
Do not buy a kilogram of oil for a kilogram of wax
Five 200 g candles at 8% need 80 g of fragrance oil, or 84 g with the allowance. A 100 g bottle covers that. The shopping list above prices a 1 kg bottle of Sandalwood at ₹5,026.80, which only makes sense if you already know the scent will stay in your range. For a first batch, the 100 g bottle at ₹502.68 is the sensible buy.
Mistake: buying 500 g to save money. The 500 g bag of CSI 464 is ₹260.00, which works out at ₹520.00 per kg against ₹507.40 for the 1 kg bag. Half a kilogram makes only two 200 g candles, too few to compare two wicks. If you are going to test at all, the 1 kg bag is both cheaper per kilogram and more useful.
Judging the result in Indian conditions
If you pour during the June–September monsoon, the air is humid. If you pour between April and June in north or west India, outdoor temperatures routinely reach 40–45°C. Neither ruins soy, but both change how a candle looks in its first days. Soy frosting is cosmetic, so do not reject a wax for a white bloom on the surface. Judge the burn, not the first morning's appearance.
