Quick answers — read this first
Is 1 kg of hotel-style fragrance oil always cheaper per gram? No. Across the 16 hotel-style oils on CSI's list, the 1 kg is dramatically cheaper than the 50 g on only a handful — Verbena (28.6% cheaper) and Woody Oud (16.5% cheaper) lead. Most others save under 9%, several save nothing, and on three the bigger size is dearer per gram.

Where does bulk actually save? Verbena at 1 kg (₹4.72/g vs ₹6.61/g at 50 g), Woody Oud from 100 g (₹4.53/g — no further saving above that), Cucumber Green Tea at 500 g (₹3.33/g), and Sage and Cedarwood or Saffron Cedarwood at 500 g, not 1 kg.

Where does it not? Several perfume-grade and brand-inspired listings are priced flat or nearly so (Mahogany Teakwood listing ₹8.80/g at every size; Orange no.3 ₹8.03–₹8.04), though Santal Noir, also perfume-grade, falls 8.6%; Blue Ocean gets fractionally dearer as the size goes up; Sage and Cedarwood's 1 kg is 32.9% dearer per gram than its 500 g.

Each row is one oil; each marker is one listed size, placed at its price per gram. A long spread (Verbena, Woody Oud, Vetiver) means buying bigger genuinely lowers your cost. A tight cluster (Mahogany Teakwood listing, Orange no.3, Blue Ocean) means the size you buy barely changes the price per gram.
Straight answer
I buy hotel-style fragrance oils for a candle business. At which sizes do CSI's wholesale packs actually save me money?
Less often than you would expect. We checked every listed size of the 16 oils on CSI's hotel-style list on 24 September 2026. Only Verbena (28.6% cheaper per gram at 1 kg than at 50 g), Woody Oud (16.5% cheaper, all of it reached at 100 g) and Vetiver (500 g 18.1% cheaper than 50 g; 1 kg out of stock) show a saving above 10% at their largest in-stock size; Sage and Cedarwood and Saffron Cedarwood also save 27.0% per gram, but only at 500 g, not 1 kg. Santal Noir saves 8.6%, Sandalwood 7.4% and Cucumber Green Tea 5.7%. Bergamot Amber, White Royal Oud and both Nerolis save under 5%. Four are flat or worse: Blue Ocean is fractionally dearer at 1 kg, the Mahogany Teakwood listing saves nothing, Orange no.3 barely moves, and Grapefruit Oleo has only its 100 g in stock. And Sage and Cedarwood and Saffron Cedarwood, whose 1 kg is only 3.0% cheaper than their 50 g, are 32.9% dearer per gram at 1 kg than at 500 g. So: buy Verbena by the kilogram, Woody Oud by the 100 g or more, the cedarwoods by the 500 g, and everything else at the size that matches how fast you sell it. For anything above the listed sizes, get a quote on WhatsApp with a GST invoice.
One line: on most hotel-style oils, bigger packs buy you stock, not a discount — so buy size to match your sales, and save the kilogram for the oils whose ladder really falls.

Two listing notes. "Mahogany Teakwood" in the table is CSI's product listing named "Mahogany Teakwood Bath and Body Works Inspired Fragrance Oil"; the oil is CSI's interpretation, CSI is not affiliated with the brand, and the brand name should never appear on your own label. Orange no.3, Grapefruit Oleo, Neroli Signature Grade and Santal Noir are perfume-grade oils; the 15–25% figures on their pages are perfume usage rates, not candle loads, and their pages state no candle load, so the wax ceiling governs if you use them in candles.

Do not buy the 15 g "to save money". It is the dearest size per gram on every oil here that lists one, except Saffron Cedarwood, whose 15 g (₹6.92/g) is fractionally cheaper per gram than its 50 g (₹7.08/g). Cucumber Green Tea is ₹6.21/g at 15 g and ₹3.53/g at 50 g — 76% more; Vetiver's 15 g is ₹12.51/g, 77% more than its 50 g. In candle terms, a Cucumber Green Tea candle's oil costs ₹74.58 at the 15 g price and ₹42.34 at 50 g. The 15 g is for smelling, not for pouring.

Four price patterns, and what each means for your order

Read the chart row by row and the 16 oils fall into four patterns. Knowing which pattern an oil follows is the whole wholesale decision.

Pattern 1 — A real ladder: the price keeps falling to 1 kg

Verbena is the clearest case: ₹7.08 at 15 g, ₹6.61 at 50 g, ₹5.90 at 100 g, ₹4.96 at 500 g and ₹4.72 at 1 kg. Every step up saves money. Santal Noir falls 8.6% from 50 g to 1 kg, though its 500 g (₹9.20/g) is fractionally dearer per gram than its 100 g (₹9.19/g), 0.09% more. Vetiver would belong here too, falling from ₹7.08 at 50 g to ₹5.80 at 500 g, but its 1 kg is out of stock on 24 September 2026. For pattern-1 oils, the larger size is the right wholesale buy once you know the oil sells.

Pattern 2 — Bulk price at 100 g, flat after that

Woody Oud drops from ₹5.43 at 50 g to ₹4.53 at 100 g and then stays at ₹4.53 to 1 kg. Sandalwood (₹5.03 from 100 g), White Royal Oud (₹8.10 from 100 g) and Neroli (₹6.66 from 100 g) do the same. For these, the "wholesale price" is available at 100 g. Buying 500 g or 1 kg gives you fewer reorders and less packaging, not a lower cost per gram. Five 100 g bottles of Woody Oud cost ₹2,265.60, exactly the 500 g price of ₹2,265.60.

Pattern 3 — Near-flat: the size barely matters

The Mahogany Teakwood listing is ₹8.80 per gram at 50 g, 100 g, 500 g and 1 kg alike: ₹105.60 of oil per 8% candle whatever you buy. Orange no.3 moves from ₹8.04 to ₹8.03. Bergamot Amber goes from ₹5.60 to ₹5.44 — ₹1.96 per candle. Most perfume-grade and brand-inspired oils are priced this way. For pattern-3 oils, buy the size you will use within your planning window and no more.

Pattern 4 — Inverted: the bigger size costs more per gram

Three oils run backwards on 24 September 2026. Sage and Cedarwood and Saffron Cedarwood share the same prices: 500 g at ₹2,584.20 (₹5.17/g) and 1 kg at ₹6,867.60 (₹6.87/g), 32.9% more per gram. Two 500 g packs of either cost ₹5,168.40, ₹1,699.20 less than one 1 kg. Blue Ocean goes ₹4.94 at 50 g, ₹4.95 at 100 g, ₹4.96 at 500 g and 1 kg: twenty 50 g bottles (₹4,940.00) would cost ₹16.00 less than one 1 kg. The bright, lemony top of the hotel style. The page describes "Crisp lemony verbena with herbal undertones" and states "Recommended Fragrance Load: Up to 10% for soy wax Up to 6% for paraffin wax". It has the steepest ladder on the list: oil per 8% candle falls from ₹79.30 at 50 g to ₹70.80 at 100 g, ₹59.47 at 500 g and ₹56.64 at 1 kg. A warm, approachable oud for the evening end of a hotel line. The page describes "citrus and spice top notes opening into rich oud and patchouli heart, settling into warm woody notes, amber, and musk" and states "candles (6-10%)". The price drops from ₹5.43 at 50 g to ₹4.53 at 100 g and stays there: ₹65.14 of oil per candle at 50 g, ₹54.37 from 100 g. Buy 1 kg only if you will pour around 83 candles of it (what 1 kg makes) before your next reorder; otherwise 100 g multiples cost the same per gram. Limitation: patchouli in the heart pushes it darker than a lobby scent; pair it with a bright oil.

The fresh-tea note of the hotel style, and the cheapest per gram on the list. Stated notes: "Top Notes: Crisp cucumber, fresh green tea leaves | Heart Notes: Delicate jasmine, hints of lemon | Base Notes: Clean musk, light woods"; the page says "we recommend using 8-10% fragrance oil per pound of wax" — we read that as a percentage of total weight and test 6%, 8% and 10%. The 500 g and 1 kg share the same ₹3.33/g, so the 500 g gets you the bulk price with half the stock. Limitation: on its own it can read spa more than hotel.

The per-gram price rises slightly with size: ₹59.28 of oil per 8% candle at 50 g, ₹59.47 at 1 kg, ₹0.19 more. Buy it at the size that matches your sales. What the ladder is worth per 100 candles

Per-gram differences look small. Per 100 candles they become real money, or they do not. One hundred 150 g candles at 8% use 1.2 kg of oil. The table compares that oil bought at the smallest sensible size against the cheapest in-stock size per gram.

Verbena bought at the 100 g price instead of 1 kg would cost you an extra ₹1,175.28 over the 83 candles a kilogram makes. Blue Ocean shows zero because its cheapest size is its smallest. Bergamot Amber saves ₹195.60 per 100 candles by moving from 50 g to 1 kg: real, but not a reason to hold a kilogram you might not sell.

We sell the 1 kg. For most hotel-style oils, don't buy it for the discount. Outside Verbena, Woody Oud (which reaches its low at 100 g) and Santal Noir, the 1 kg saves you less per candle than the cost of a single unsold candle. A kilogram of an oil that does not sell is the most expensive oil you will ever buy. Buy the kilogram when your sales need it.
Wax follows a different rule
Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 is priced flat per gram from 1 kg to 10 kg (₹507.40 per kg; ₹5,074.00 for 10 kg), so wax, too, rewards buying to your production rather than to a discount. GST invoice and a WhatsApp bulk quote

The store sizes stop at 1 kg. For more than that, for several kilograms across oils, or for a GST invoice matched to a purchase order, the route is WhatsApp. A GST invoice is available; we do not state on this page whether a given listed price includes GST, so ask for the invoiced figure in your quote. Reorder cadence: how often, how much

The right pack size is the one you finish before you need to reorder, not the one with the lowest sticker per gram.

A kilogram of oil makes 83 candles of 150 g at 8%; 500 g makes 41; 100 g makes 8. So the pack size that suits you depends on how many candles of that scent you pour a week. The table shows how long a 1 kg lasts at three sales rates.

As a rule of thumb (judgement, not data): reorder when the remaining oil covers your expected sales for the dispatch time plus two weeks, and never let a hero scent run out in the four weeks before Diwali (8 November 2026) or Christmas (25 December 2026). For a supporting scent that sells ten candles a week, a 500 g of a pattern-2 oil, or of Bergamot Amber, Cucumber Green Tea or the Mahogany Teakwood listing, gives about four weeks of cover at the same per-gram price as the kilogram, and half the money tied up. Add one column to your inventory: the oil's pattern (1–4). When you reorder, it tells you instantly whether to go bigger (1), stay at 100 g multiples (2), buy to need (3) or cap at 500 g (4). Recheck the live prices each time; they can change.

Is buying fragrance oil in 1 kg cheaper in India?
Sometimes. On CSI's hotel-style oils, Verbena's 1 kg is 28.6% cheaper per gram than its 50 g, but most oils save under 9%, several save nothing, and Sage and Cedarwood's 1 kg is 32.9% dearer per gram than its 500 g. Check the per-gram price at every size before you buy.
