Production calculator · Stock → count → reorder
Five kilos of one fragrance is a production stock, not a bottle. It fills 312 candles of 200 g at 8% on paper and about 297 in practice. The more useful number is the one before that: the stock level at which you must reorder so the next lot lands before this one runs out.
197 candles
poured from 5 kg before reordering, at 50 candles a week with an example 1-week lead time and 1 week of safety stock · reorder at 1,680 g left
Quick answers — read this first
How many 200 g candles does 5 kg of fragrance oil make at 8%? 312 candles at 16 g each, with 8 g left. 5,000 ÷ 16 = 312.5, rounded down.

How many should I plan for? 297 with a 5% pour-loss allowance (16.8 g budgeted per candle), which is a working assumption. Replace it with your measured loss.

When should I reorder? When the oil left covers your lead time plus your safety stock. At 50 candles a week, a 1-week lead time and 1 week of safety stock (both examples), that is 1,680 g, reached after 197 candles. See the reorder point.

Does CSI sell a 5 kg fragrance pack? The largest listed oil pack is 1 kg, so 5 kg is five 1 kg packs. For more than the listed packs, or all five from one lot, ask on WhatsApp; no volume discount figure is published.
The short answer
Count: 5,000 g ÷ 16 g = 312 candles; ÷ 16.8 g (5% allowance) = 297.
Reorder point: Reorder point = weekly oil use × (lead-time weeks + safety weeks). At 50 candles a week: 840 g × 2 = 1,680 g, reached after 197 candles, 3.95 weeks in.
Wax: 297 candles need 57,380.4 g of wax. Buy it in production-sized lots (for 100 candles, 19,320.0 g = 1 × 10 kg + 1 × 5 kg + 4 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g of Luxury Soy Wax Chunks, ₹11,689.00) rather than all at once.
5 kg of oil at 50 candles a week (16.8 g each with a 5% allowance): when to reorder 0 g 1,000 g 2,000 g 3,000 g 4,000 g 5,000 g wk 0 wk 1 wk 2 wk 3 wk 4 wk 5 wk 6 Reorder point 1,680 g = 1 week lead time + 1 week safety stock Order here: after 197 candles (week 3.95) new lot lands with 840 g (1 week) left Line = oil on the shelf. Lead time and safety stock are examples; replace them with your own supplier and sales figures.
At 50 candles a week the 5 kg falls by 840 g a week. The dashed line is the reorder point: enough oil for one week of lead time plus one week of safety stock. Ordering when the line crosses it, after 197 candles, means the new oil arrives with a week's stock still on the shelf. Both weeks are examples; your supplier and sales set the real figures.
Straight answer
I have 5 kg of fragrance oil. How many 200 g finished candles can I produce at 8% before I need to reorder?
A 200 g candle at 8% of finished weight holds 16 g of oil, so 5 kg fills 312 candles (5,000 ÷ 16 = 312.5), with 8 g left. Plan on fewer: with a 5% pour-loss allowance, a working assumption, each candle budgets 16.8 g and the 5 kg covers 297 candles. The reorder question is different, because you must order before the oil runs out. The reorder point is the oil you will use while the new lot is on its way, plus a safety stock. At 50 candles a week (840 g of oil a week), an example 1-week supplier lead time and 1 week of safety stock, the reorder point is 1,680 g. You reach it after 197 candles, about 4.0 weeks into the 5 kg. At 100 candles a week the reorder point is 3,360 g and you reorder after 97 candles. At 150 a week, 5 kg is not enough to cover lead time and safety stock at all. CSI's largest listed oil pack is 1 kg, so 5 kg is five 1 kg packs; larger or single-lot quantities are quoted on WhatsApp.
One line: the useful number is not 312 — it is the 1,680 g on the shelf when you press order.
Five kilos of one scent means five 1 kg packs at CSI's listed sizes. For a value oil like British Rose that is ₹15,340.00; for Jasmine, ₹19,615.00. Both are among the 24 oils where the 1 kg is 5% or more cheaper per gram than the 100 g.
Shop fragrance oils

312 in theory, 297 to plan

At five kilos, a 1% allowance is fifty grams: three candles. Small percentages stop being small.

The load is a share of the finished candle: 200 g at 8% is 16 g of oil and 184 g of wax. The count is the stock divided by the dose, rounded down. At production scale the allowance matters more than it does on a single bottle, because every percentage point is worth several candles. Here is the 5 kg with a range of pour-loss allowances:

5 kg of oil · 200 g candles · 8% · allowances are working assumptions
Five kilos, four allowances
Allowance Oil budgeted per candle Candles Oil left Wax for that many candles (incl. allowance)
None 16.00 g 312 8.00 g 57,408.0 g
2% 16.32 g 306 6.08 g 57,430.1 g
3% 16.48 g 303 6.56 g 57,424.6 g
5% 16.80 g 297 10.40 g 57,380.4 g

The 5% row is this page's planning figure. Track your real loss across the first kilo: weigh the oil before and after each batch and count the candles. If your loss turns out to be 2%, the same 5 kg covers 306 candles, nine more than planned, and your reorder point moves later accordingly. The 500 g lavender page shows the allowance ladder in more detail, including test candles.

The reorder point

A candle count tells you when the oil runs out. A reorder point tells you when to order, which is earlier, because the new oil takes time to arrive and because sales are never perfectly even. The formula is short:

The CSI principle
Reorder point = oil used per week × (lead-time weeks + safety-stock weeks).
Lead time is how long your supplier takes from order to delivery at your door. Safety stock is how many weeks of cover you want on the shelf when the new lot arrives, to absorb a busy week or a late delivery. Both are your figures. CSI does not publish delivery times, so measure yours from your own orders.

Here is the calculation with example figures. You pour 50 candles a week. With the 5% allowance, that is 50 × 16.8 g = 840 g of oil a week. Your supplier takes 1 week to deliver (an example; use yours). You want 1 week of safety stock (also an example). The reorder point is 840 g × (1 + 1) = 1,680 g.

Example: 50 candles/week · lead time 1 week · safety stock 1 week · replace with your figures
From 5 kg to the reorder trigger
Step Working Result
Oil per candle, incl. 5% allowance 16 g × 1.05 16.8 g
Oil used per week 50 × 16.8 g 840 g
Reorder point 840 g × (1 + 1) weeks 1,680 g
Oil you can pour before reordering 5,000 − 1,680 3,320 g
Candles before reordering 3,320 ÷ 16.8 197 candles
Weeks before reordering 3,320 ÷ 840 3.95 weeks
Candles the 5 kg covers in total 5,000 ÷ 16.8 297 candles (5.95 weeks)

In practice this means: when the oil on the shelf drops to 1,680 g, place the order. That is after about 197 candles, or just under four weeks at 50 a week. If the supplier takes a week, the new oil lands with about 840 g still on the shelf, which is your safety week. Keep the reorder point written on the stock shelf in grams, and weigh the open container at the end of each production day. Counting candles works too, but weighing catches spills, samples and heavy pours that a candle count misses.

Reorder by weight, not by bottle count
Five 1 kg bottles make it tempting to reorder "when the last bottle is opened". At 50 candles a week that happens at 1,000 g left, below the 1,680 g reorder point, so a 1-week delivery arrives with only about 160 g on the shelf. One late delivery and production stops. Weigh the stock and compare it to the reorder point in grams.
Reordering when the oil runs out. A maker pours all 297 candles, then orders. For the lead time, production stops, and if a festive order is running, so does the income. The fix: set the reorder point before you open the first bottle, and treat it as a stop sign. Reorder points for fast- and slow-selling fragrances applies the same rule scent by scent.

The same 5 kg at five production rates

The faster you pour, the sooner you reorder, and the larger the reorder point. At some rate, five kilos stops being enough to carry you through a delivery.
5 kg · 16.8 g per candle · example lead time 1 week + safety stock 1 week
Reorder point and cover at different weekly outputs
Candles per week Oil per week Reorder point Candles before reordering Weeks before reordering Weeks the 5 kg lasts
25 420 g 840 g 247 9.90 11.90
50 840 g 1,680 g 197 3.95 5.95
75 1,260 g 2,520 g 147 1.97 3.97
100 1,680 g 3,360 g 97 0.98 2.98
150 2,520 g 5,040 g Reorder now: 5 kg is below the reorder point — 1.98

Read the last row carefully. At 150 candles a week, the reorder point (5,040 g) is larger than the whole 5 kg, so five kilos cannot carry a 1-week lead time plus a 1-week safety stock. Either order a larger lot, shorten the safety cover, or order the next lot on the same day the first one arrives. At 25 candles a week the opposite is true: the 5 kg lasts almost 12 weeks, and you should ask whether you need five kilos at all. The 500 g or 1 kg decision and the kilo break-even page look at that side.

Two refinements are worth adding once you have a few months of data. First, if sales swing from week to week, size the safety stock to the swing, not to the average. Safety stock when demand varies by 20% does that maths. Second, if you sell several scents, each has its own rate and its own reorder point; a combined figure hides the scent that runs out first. Inventory across ten fragrances covers that.

Buying five kilos at CSI

CSI's listed fragrance packs stop at 1 kg per oil, so "a 5 kg pack" is five 1 kg packs from the store, or a quote on WhatsApp for more than the listed packs. No volume discount figure is published. Here is what five kilos costs for three commonly used oils, and what the reorder point is worth in money:

Five 1 kg packs · CSI live pricing, 24 September 2026
Five kilos priced, and the reorder point in rupees
Oil 1 kg price 5 × 1 kg Same 5 kg as 50 × 100 g Oil per 200 g candle Stock value at the 1,680 g reorder point
British Rose ₹3,068.00 ₹15,340.00 ₹17,110.00 ₹49.09 ₹5,154.24
Jasmine ₹3,923.00 ₹19,615.00 ₹21,500.00 ₹62.77 ₹6,590.64
Lavender ₹5,221.00 ₹26,105.00 ₹27,000.00 ₹83.54 ₹8,771.28

For British Rose and Jasmine, the kilo is a real saving: British Rose's 1 kg is 10.3% cheaper per gram than its 100 g, and Jasmine's 8.8%. Lavender's is 3.3%, which on five kilos is ₹895.00. For most oils in the catalogue the kilo is within 1% of the 100 g per gram, so the reason to hold five kilos is continuity of supply and one production lot, not price. Ask CSI whether all five kilos can come from a single lot, and keep a retained sample of each lot you receive.

Argued against our own interest, plainly. Five kilos of one scent is a lot of cash on a shelf. If you pour 25 candles a week, 5 kg lasts almost twelve weeks, and two kilos with a sensible reorder point would serve you as well with less money tied up. We would sell more oil by telling you to stock up. Buy to your reorder point and your real weekly output, not to a round number.

Wax: stage it, do not stockpile it

If 5 kg of oil is the stock, the wax to match it is 297 × 184 g × 1.05 = 57,380.4 g, over 57 kilos. Rounded to Luxury Soy Wax Chunks bags that is 5 × 10 kg + 1 × 5 kg + 2 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g, ₹34,487.00. You do not need to buy it all at once. Wax is bulky, and unlike the oil it is not the ingredient that sets your count. Buy it per production cycle instead.

Luxury Soy Wax Chunks are priced flat per kilo (₹599.00 at 1 kg and 5 kg, ₹599.90 at 10 kg), so staging the purchase costs nothing extra per kilo. Two 5 kg bags are ₹9.00 cheaper than one 10 kg bag. Natural Soy Pearl Wax is the one CSI wax with a real bulk break (₹450.00 at 1 kg, ₹424.80 a kilo at 5 kg and above) and a 50 kg bag, but no fragrance ceiling is quoted for it in this series, so check its product page before running it at 8%. Counting candles from 50 kg of wax works the wax side at this scale.

If your 5 kg is actually a festive build-up rather than steady stock, entering Diwali with triple demand sizes the pre-season purchase. For a formula built from several oils, the same reorder logic applies to each component; the 50:30:20 blend page shows how the components deplete at different rates.

Five kilos is 297 candles. The number that keeps you in production is the 1,680 grams you still have when you order the next lot.

Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. A page about 5 kg of oil is an easy place to sell more oil. This one tells you when five kilos is more than you need, and says plainly that for most oils the kilo is not cheaper per gram than the 100 g.

Oil and wax prices are CSI live listings pulled on 24 September 2026. CSI's listed oil packs stop at 1 kg; larger quantities are quoted on WhatsApp and no volume discount is published. Counts, reorder points and costs are plain arithmetic, shown so you can check them.

Frequently asked questions

How many candles can 5 kg of fragrance oil make?
At 8% in 200 g candles, 312 (16 g each). With a 5% pour-loss allowance, 297. In 150 g candles at 8% (12 g each), 416. In 100 g candles at 8%, 625.
How do I calculate a reorder point for fragrance oil?
Weekly oil use × (lead-time weeks + safety-stock weeks). Weekly oil use = candles per week × oil per candle including your loss allowance. At 50 candles a week, 16.8 g each, a 1-week lead time and 1 week of safety stock: 840 × 2 = 1,680 g.
Does CSI sell fragrance oil in 5 kg packs?
The largest listed pack for each oil is 1 kg, so 5 kg is five 1 kg packs. For larger quantities or a single-lot request, message CSI on WhatsApp for a quote. No volume discount figure is published.
How much wax do I need for 5 kg of fragrance oil at 8%?
In theory 57.5 kg (8% oil to 92% wax). For 297 candles of 200 g with a 5% allowance, 57,380.4 g. Buy it per production cycle; Luxury Soy Wax Chunks are priced flat per kilo, so staging costs nothing extra.
